A finite tensor category is called pointed if all its simple objects are invertible. We find necessary and sufficient conditions for two pointed semisimple categories to be dual to each other with respect to a module category. Whenever the dual of a pointed semisimple category with respect to a module category is pointed, we give explicit formulas for the Grothendieck ring and for the associator of the dual. This leads to the definition of categorical Morita equivalence on the set of all finite groups and on the set of all pairs (G, w), where G is a finite group and w is a 3-cocycle on G. A group-theoretical and cohomological interpretation of this relation is given. A series of concrete examples of pairs of groups that are categorically Morita equivalent but have non-isomorphic Grothendieck rings are given. In particular, the representation categories of the Drinfeld doubles of the groups in each example are equivalent as braided tensor categories and hence these groups define the same modular data.
We give a dynamical characterization of categorical Morita equivalence between compact quantum groups. More precisely, by a Tannaka-Krein type duality, a unital C*-algebra endowed with commuting actions of two compact quantum groups corresponds to a bimodule category over their representation categories. We show that this bimodule category is invertible if and only if the actions are free, with finite dimensional fixed point algebras, which are in duality as Frobenius algebras in an appropriate sense. This extends the well-known characterization of monoidal equivalence in terms of bi-Hopf-Galo…
We extend categorical Morita equivalence to finite tensor categories graded by a finite group $G$. We show that two such categories are graded Morita equivalent if and only if their equivariant Drinfeld centers are equivalent as braided $G$-crossed tensor categories.
We classify pointed fusion categories C(G, $ω$) up to Morita equivalence for 1 < |G| < 32. Among them, the cases |G| = 2 3 , 2 4 and 3 3 are emphasized. Although the equivalence classes of such categories are not distinguished by their Frobenius-Schur indicators, their categorical Morita equivalence classes are distinguished by the set of the indicators and ribbon twists of their Drinfeld centers. In particular, the modular data are a complete invariant for the modular categories Z(C(G, $ω$)) for |G[< 32. We use the computer algebra package GAP and present codes for treating complex-valued gro…
We describe an approach to classification of fusion categories in terms of Morita equivalence. This is usually achieved by analyzing Drinfeld centers of fusion categories and finding Tannakian subcategories therein.
Given a fusion category $\mathcal{C}$ and an indecomposable $\mathcal{C}$-module category $\mathcal{M}$, the fusion category $\mathcal{C}^*_\mathcal{M}$ of $\mathcal{C}$-module endofunctors of $\mathcal{M}$ is called the (Morita) dual fusion category of $\mathcal{C}$ with respect to $\mathcal{M}$. We describe tensor functors between two arbitrary duals $\mathcal{C}^*_\mathcal{M}$ and $\mathcal{D}^*_\mathcal{N}$ in terms of data associated to $\mathcal{C}$ and $\mathcal{D}$. We apply the results to $G$-equivariantizations of fusion categories and group-theoretical fusion categories. We describe…
We extend Morita theory to abelian categories by using wide Morita contexts. Several equivalence results are given for wide Morita contexts between abelian categories, widely extending equivalence theorems for categories of modules and comodules due to Kato, Muller and Berbec. In the case of Grothendieck categories we derive equivalence results by using quotient categories. We apply the general equivalence results to rings with identity, rings with local units, graded rings, Doi-Hopf modules and coalgebras.
We study duals for objects and adjoints for $k$-morphisms in $\operatorname{Alg}_n(\mathcal{S})$, an $(\infty,n+N)$-category that models a higher Morita category for $E_n$ algebra objects in a symmetric monoidal $(\infty,N)$-category $\mathcal{S}$. Our model of $\operatorname{Alg}(\mathcal{S})$ uses the geometrically convenient framework of factorization algebras. The main result is that $\operatorname{Alg}_n(\mathcal{S})$ is fully $n$-dualizable, verifying a conjecture of Lurie. Moreover, we unpack the consequences for a natural class of fully extended topological field theories and explore $…
We investigate the equivariant and Hopf-cyclic cohomology of module algebras over Hopf algebroids and derive their Morita invariance. For this, we use the tools developed by McCarthy for $k$-linear categories and subsequently by Kaygun and Khalkhali for a certain class of categories, called as $H$-categories, for a Hopf algebra $H$.
We consider algebras in a modular tensor category C. If the trace pairing of an algebra A in C is non-degenerate we associate to A a commutative algebra Z(A), called the full centre, in a doubled version of the category C. We prove that two simple algebras with non-degenerate trace pairing are Morita-equivalent if and only if their full centres are isomorphic as algebras. This result has an interesting interpretation in two-dimensional rational conformal field theory; it implies that there cannot be several incompatible sets of boundary conditions for a given bulk theory.
A pointed fusion category is a rigid tensor category with finitely many isomorphism classes of simple objects which moreover are invertible. Two tensor categories $C$ and $D$ are weakly Morita equivalent if there exists an indecomposable right module category $M$ over $C$ such that $Fun_C(M,M)$ and $D$ are tensor equivalent. We use the Lyndon-Hochschild-Serre spectral sequence associated to abelian group extensions to give necessary and sufficient conditions in terms of cohomology classes for two pointed fusion categories to be weakly Morita equivalent. This result may permit to classify the e…
We give a complete classification of pointed fusion categories over $\mathbb{C}$ of global dimension $p^3$ for $p$ any odd prime. We proceed to classify the equivalence classes of pointed fusion categories of dimension $p^3$ and we determine which of these equivalence classes have equivalent categories of modules.
In this paper we give a complete classification of pointed fusion categories over $\mathbb{C}$ of global dimension 8. We first classify the equivalence classes of pointed fusion categories of dimension 8, and then we proceed to determine which of these equivalence classes have equivalent categories of modules. This classificaction permits to classify the equivalence classes of braded tensor equivalences of twisted Drinfeld doubles of finite groups of order 8.
We analyze the action of the Brauer-Picard group of a pointed fusion category on the set of Lagrangian subcategories of its center. Using this action we compute the Brauer-Picard groups of pointed fusion categories associated to several classical finite groups. As an application, we construct new examples of weakly group-theoretical fusion categories.
Any etale Lie groupoid G is completely determined by its associated convolution algebra C_c(G) equipped with the natural Hopf algebroid structure. We extend this result to the generalized morphisms between etale Lie groupoids: we show that any principal H-bundle P over G is uniquely determined by the associated C_c(G)-C_c(H)-bimodule C_c(P) equipped with the natural coalgebra structure. Furthermore, we prove that the functor C_c gives an equivalence between the Morita category of etale Lie groupoids and the Morita category of locally grouplike Hopf algebroids.
Two Hopf algebras are called monoidally Morita equivalent if module categories over them are equivalent as linear monoidal categories. We introduce monoidal Morita invariants for finite-dimensional Hopf algebras based on certain braid group representations arising from the Drinfeld double construction. As an application, we show, for any integer $n$, the number of elements of order $n$ is a monoidal Morita invariant for finite group algebras. We also describe relations between our construction and invariants of closed 3-manifolds due to Reshetikhin and Turaev.
Associative rings A, B are called Morita equivalent when the categories of left modules over them are equivalent. We call two classical linear operads P, Q Morita equivalent if the categories of algebras over them are equivalent. We transport a part of Morita theory to the operadic context by studying modules over operads. As an application of this philosophy, we consider an operadic version of the sheaf of linear differential operators ona a (super) manifold M and give a comparison theorem between algebras over this sheaf on M and M_{red}. The paper is dedicated to A.N.Tyurin on the occasion …
We present a criterion for establishing Morita equivalence of monoidal categories, and apply it to the categorical representation theory of reductive groups $G$. We show that the "de Rham group algebra" $\mathcal D(G)$ (the monoidal category of $\mathcal D$-modules on $G$) is Morita equivalent to the universal Hecke category $\mathcal D(N \backslash G/N)$ and to its monodromic variant $\widetilde{\mathcal D}(B \backslash G / B)$. In other words, de Rham $G$-categories, i.e., module categories for $\mathcal D(G)$, satisfy a "highest weight theorem" - they all appear in the decomposition of the …
The monoidal version of classical Morita theory is a theory of bialgebroids. To make this explicit we construct a bicategory the objects of which are the bialgebroids and in which equivalence of objects means that the corresponding module categories are monoidally equivalent. The module categories of bialgebroids and of Frobenius Hopf algebroids are characterized by the existence of strong comonoid progenerators and strong Frobenius progenerators, respectively.
In this paper we develope a categorical theory of relations and use this formulation to define the notion of quantization for relations. Categories of relations are defined in the context of symmetric monoidal categories. They are shown to be symmetric monoidal categories in their own right and are found to be isomorphic to certain categories of $A-A$ bicomodules. Properties of relations are defined in terms of the symmetric monoidal structure. Equivalence relations are shown to be commutative monoids in the category of relations. Quantization in our view is a property of functors between mono…
I review recent developments of "non-semisimple" modular tensor categories in the sense of Lyubashenko and the categorical Verlinde formula for such categories (this is a proceedings article for Meeting for Study of Number theory, Hopf algebras and related topics held at University of Toyama, Japan, 12-15 February 2017).
A bicommutant category is a higher categorical analog of a von Neumann algebra. We study the bicommutant categories which arise as the commutant $\mathcal{C}'$ of a fully faithful representation $\mathcal{C}\to\operatorname{Bim}(R)$ of a unitary fusion category $\mathcal{C}$. Using results of Izumi, Popa, and Tomatsu about existence and uniqueness of representations of unitary (multi)fusion categories, we prove that if $\mathcal{C}$ and $\mathcal{D}$ are Morita equivalent unitary fusion categories, then their commutant categories $\mathcal{C}'$ and $\mathcal{D}'$ are equivalent as bicommutant …
We classify various types of graded extensions of a finite braided tensor category $\cal B$ in terms of its $2$-categorical Picard groups. In particular, we prove that braided extensions of $\cal B$ by a finite group $A$ correspond to braided monoidal $2$-functors from $A$ to the braided $2$-categorical Picard group of $\cal B$ (consisting of invertible central $\cal B$-module categories). Such functors can be expressed in terms of the Eilnberg-Mac~Lane cohomology. We describe in detail braided $2$-categorical Picard groups of symmetric fusion categories and of pointed braided fusion categorie…
In this article we defined and studied quasi-finite comodules, the cohom functors for coalgebras over rings. linear functors between categories of comodules are also investigated and it is proved that good enough linear functors are nothing but a cotensor functor. Our main result of this work characterizes equivalences between comodule categories generalizing the Morita-Takeuchi theory to coalgebras over rings. Morita-Takeuchi contexts in our setting is defined and investigated, a correspondence between strict Morita-Takeuchi contexts and equivalences of comodule categories over the involved c…
We classify fusion categories which are Morita equivalent to even parts of subfactors with index $3+\sqrt{5} $, and module categories over these fusion categories. For the fusion category $\mathcal{C} $ which is the even part of the self-dual $3^{\mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z} \times \mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z} } $ subfactor, we show that there are $30$ simple module categories over $ \mathcal{C}$; there are no other fusion categories in the Morita equivalence class; and the order of the Brauer-Picard group is $360$. The proof proceeds indirectly by first describing the Brauer-Picard groupoid of a $ \mathb…
A Mackey type decomposition for group actions on abelian categories is described. This allows us to define new Mackey functors which associates to any subgroup the $K$-theory of the corresponding equivariantized abelian category. In the case of an action by tensor autoequivalences the Mackey functor at the level of Grothendieck rings has a Green functor structure. As an application we give a description of the Grothendieck rings of equivariantized fusion categories under group actions by tensor autoequivalences on graded fusion categories.
We aim to study Morita theory for tensor triangulated categories. For two finite tensor categories having no projective simple objects, we prove that their stable equivalence induced by an exact $\Bbbk$-linear monoidal functor can be lifted to a tensor equivalence under some certain conditions.
In this work we investigate partial actions of a Hopf algebra H on nonunital algebras and the associated partial smash products. We show that our partial actions correspond to nonunital algebras in the category of partial representations of H. The central problem of existence of a globalization for a partial action is studied in detail, and we provide sufficient conditions for the existence (and uniqueness) of a minimal globalization for associative algebras in general. Extending previous results by Abadie, Dokuchaev, Exel and Simon, we define Morita equivalence for partial Hopf actions, and w…
We prove two results on the tube algebras of rigid C$^*$-tensor categories. The first is that the tube algebra of the representation category of a compact quantum group $G$ is a full corner of the Drinfeld double of $G$. As an application we obtain some information on the structure of the tube algebras of the Temperley-Lieb categories $TL(d)$ for $d>2$. The second result is that the tube algebras of weakly Morita equivalent C$^*$-tensor categories are strongly Morita equivalent. The corresponding linking algebra is described as the tube algebra of the $2$-category defining the Morita context.
We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of an enhancement of a finite triangulated category. Moreover, we show that enhancements are unique when they exist, up to Morita equivalence.
G-equivariant modular categories provide the input for a standard method to construct 3d homotopy field theories. Virelizier constructed a G-equivariant category from the action of a group G on a Hopf algebra H by Hopf algebra automorphisms. The neutral component of his category is the Drinfeld center of the category of H-modules. We generalize this construction to weak actions of a group G on an arbitrary monoidal category C by (possibly non-strict) monoidal auto-equivalences and obtain a G-equivariant category with neutral component the Drinfeld center of C.
We construct an equivalence of categories from a strong categorical sl(2) action, following the work of Chuang-Rouquier. As an application, we give an explicit, natural equivalence between the derived categories of coherent sheaves on cotangent bundles to complementary Grassmannians.
The 2-category V-Cat of categories enriched over a braided monoidal category V is not itself braided in any way that is based upon the braiding of V. The exception is the case in which V is symmetric, which leads to V-Cat being symmetric as well. This paper describes how these facts are related to a categorical analogue of topological delooping. It seems that the analogy of loop spaces is a good guide for how to define the concept of enrichment over various types of monoidal objects, including k-fold monoidal categories and their higher dimensional counterparts. The main result is that for V a…
We give a review of some recent developments in the theory of tensor categories. The topics include realizability of fusion rings, Ocneanu rigidity, module categories, weak Hopf algebras, Morita theory for tensor categories, lifting theory, categorical dimensions, Frobenius- Perron dimensions, classification of tensor categories.
We use category theory to propose a unified approach to the Schur-Weyl dualities involving the general linear Lie algebras, their polynomial extensions and associated quantum deformations. We define multiplicative sequences of algebras exemplified by the sequence of group algebras of the symmetric groups and use them to introduce associated monoidal categories. Universal properties of these categories lead to uniform constructions of the Drinfeld functor connecting representation theories of the degenerate affine Hecke algebras and the Yangians and of its q-analogue. Moreover, we construct act…
We prove a version of the Jordan-H\" older theorem in the context of weakly group-theoretical fusion categories. This allows us to introduce the composition factors and the length of such a fusion category C, which are in fact Morita invariants of C.
We prove that the Brauer-Picard group of Morita autoequiv- alences of each of the three fusion categories which arise as an even part of the Asaeda-Haagerup subfactor or of its index 2 extension is the Klein four-group. We describe the 36 bimodule categories which occur in the full subgroupoid of the Brauer-Picard groupoid on these three fusion categories. We also classify all irreducible subfactors both of whose even parts are among these categories, of which there are 111 up to isomorphism of the planar algebra (76 up to duality). Although we identify the entire Brauer-Picard group, there ma…
A Morita class of symmetric special Frobenius algebras A in the modular tensor category of a chiral CFT determines a full CFT on oriented world sheets. For unoriented world sheets, A must in addition possess a reversion, i.e. an isomorphism from A^opp to A squaring to the twist. Any two reversions of an algebra A differ by an element of the group Aut(A) of algebra automorphisms of A. We establish a group homomorphism from Aut(A) to the Picard group of the bimodule category C_AA, with kernel consisting of the inner automorphisms, and we refine Morita equivalence to an equivalence relation betwe…
