A Banach space $X$ has the Daugavet property if the Daugavet equation $\|\Id + T\|= 1 + \|T\|$ holds for every rank-one operator $T:X \longrightarrow X$. We show that the most natural attempts to introduce new properties by considering other norm equalities for operators (like $\|g(T)\|=f(\|T\|)$ for some functions $f$ and $g$) lead in fact to the Daugavet property of the space. On the other hand there are equations (for example $\|\Id + T\|= \|\Id - T\|$) that lead to new, strictly weaker properties of Banach spaces.
We prove new inequalities and equalities for the generalized and the joint spectral radius (and their essential versions) of Hadamard (Schur) geometric means of bounded sets of positive kernel operators on Banach function spaces. In the case of nonnegative matrices that define operators on Banach sequences we obtain additional results. Our results extend results of several authors that appeared relatively recently.
K-frame theory was recently introduced to reconstruct elements from the range of a bounded linear operator K in a separable Hilbert space. This significant property is worthwhile especially in some problems arising in sampling theory. Some equalities and inequalities have been established for ordinary frames and their duals. In this paper, we continue and extend these results to obtain several important equalities and inequalities for K-frames. Moreover, by applying Jensen's operator inequality we obtain some new inequalities for $K$-frames.
We investigate a limiting procedure for extending local integral operator equalities to the global ones and to applying it to obtaining generalizations of the Newton-Leibnitz formula for operator-valued maps for a wide class of unbounded operators.
In this work we establish a Stokes-type integral equality for scalarly essentially integrable forms on an orientable smooth manifold with values in the locally convex linear space $\langle B(G),σ(B(G),\mathcal{N})\rangle$, where $G$ is a complex Banach space and $\mathcal{N}$ is a suitable linear subspace of the norm dual of $B(G)$. This result widely extends the Newton-Leibnitz-type equality stated in one of our previous articles. To obtain our equality we generalize the main result of that article, and employ the Stokes theorem for smooth locally convex vector valued forms established in a p…
Continuous generalized fusion frame theory was recently introduced by Rahimi and al. Several equalities and inequalities have been obtained for frame, fusion generalized fusion frame, among others. In the present paper, we continue and extend these results to obtain some important identities and inequalities in the case of continuous generalized fusion frame, Parceval continuous generalized fusion frame, $ λ$-tight continuous generalized fusion frame. Moreover, we obtain some new inequalities for the alternate dual continuous generalized fusion frame. Finally, we obtain frame operator of a pai…
In the first part of the paper, we use states on $C^*$-algebras in order to establish some equivalent statements to equality in the triangle inequality, as well as to the parallelogram identity for elements of a pre-Hilbert $C^*$-module. We also characterize the equality case in the triangle inequality for adjointable operators on a Hilbert $C^*$-module. Then we give certain necessary and sufficient conditions to the Pythagoras identity for two vectors in a pre-Hilbert $C^*$-module under the assumption that their inner product has negative real part. We introduce the concept of Pythagoras orth…
In this paper, we present a complete spectral research of generalized Cesàro operators on Sobolev-Lebesgue sequence spaces. The main idea is to subordinate such operators to suitable $C_0$-semigroups on these sequence spaces. We introduce that family of sequence spaces using the fractional finite differences and we prove some structural properties similar to classical Lebesgue sequence spaces. In order to show the main results about fractional finite differences, we state equalities involving sums of quotients of Euler's Gamma functions. Finally, we display some graphical representations of th…
Let $A_{i}\ (i=1, 2, ..., k)$ be bounded linear operators on a Hilbert space. This paper aims to show characterizations of operator order $A_{k}\geq A_{k-1}\geq...\geq A_{2}\geq A_{1}>0$ in terms of operator inequalities. Afterwards, an application of the characterizations is given to operator equalities due to Douglas's majorization and factorization theorem.
Let $A$ be a positive bounded operator on a Hilbert space $\big(\mathcal{H}, \langle \cdot, \cdot\rangle \big)$. The semi-inner product ${\langle x, y\rangle}_A := \langle Ax, y\rangle$, $x, y\in\mathcal{H},$ induces a seminorm ${\|\cdot\|}_A$ on $\mathcal{H}$. Let ${\|T\|}_A,\ w_A(T),$ and $c_A(T)$ denote the $A$-operator seminorm, the $A$-numerical radius, and the $A$-Crawford number of an operator $T$ in the semi-Hilbertian space $\big(\mathcal{H}, {\|\cdot\|}_A\big)$, respectively. In this paper, we present some seminorm inequalities and equalities for semi-Hilbertian space operators. More…
Unbounded composition operators in $L^2$-space over discrete measure spaces are investigated. Normal, formally normal and quasinormal composition operators acting in $L^2$-spaces of this kind are characterized.
In this article, we first prove the existence of an invariant subspace for a norm-attaining $\ast$-paranormal operator. Then give a representation for $\ast$-paranormal operators in the closure of absolutely norm-attaining operators and further study a few sufficient conditions for the normality of such operators. Finally, we discuss Toeplitz and Hankel $\ast$-paranormal operators in the closure of absolutely norm-attaining operators on the Hardy space.
We present several operator versions of the Dunkl--Williams inequality with respect to the $p$-angular distance for operators. More precisely, we show that if $A, B \in \mathbb{B}(\mathscr{H})$ such that $|A|$ and $|B|$ are invertible, $\frac{1}{r}+\frac{1}{s}=1\,\,(r>1)$ and $p\in\mathbb{R}$, then \begin{equation*} |A|A|^{p-1}-B|B|^{p-1}|^{2} \leq |A|^{p-1}(r|A-B|^{2}+s||A|^{1-p}|B|^{p}-|B||^2)|A|^{p-1}.%\nonumber \end{equation*} In the case that $0<p \leq 1$, we remove the invertibility assumption and show that if $A=U|A|$ and $B=V|B|$ are the polar decompositions of $A$ and $B$, respectivel…
We introduce a weakened notion of norm attainment for bounded linear operators between Banach spaces which we call \emph{quasi norm attaining operators}. An operator $T\colon X \longrightarrow Y$ between the Banach spaces $X$ and $Y$ is quasi norm attaining if there is a sequence $(x_n)$ of norm one elements in $X$ such that $(Tx_n)$ converges to some $u\in Y$ with $\|u\|=\|T\|$. Norm attaining operators in the usual sense (i.e.\ operators for which there is a point in the unit ball where the norm of its image equals the norm of the operator) and compact operators satisfy this definition. The …
In this article, we characterize absolutely norm attaining normal operators in terms of the essential spectrum. Later we prove a structure theorem for hyponormal absolutely norm attaining (or $\mathcal{AN}$-operators in short) and deduce conditions for the normality of the operator.
In this paper, we introduce and study a new classes of operators, named AM-unbounded norm compact operators. We study the the basic properties of the new operator and we investigate the lattice-order and topology property of the operator space of AM-unbounded norm compact operator.
In this article, we give a representation of $\ast$-paranormal absolutely norm attaining operator. Explicitly saying, every $\ast$-paranormal absolutely norm attaining ($\mathcal{AN}$ in short) $T$ can be decomposed as $U\oplus D$, where $U$ is a direct sum of scalar multiple of unitary operators and $D$ is a $2\times 2$ upper diagonal operator matrix. By the representation it is clear that the class of $\ast$-paranormal $\mathcal{AN}$-operators is bigger than the class of normal $\mathcal{AN}$-operators but here we observe that a $\ast$-paranormal $\mathcal{AN}$-operator is normal if either i…
An estimate for the norm of selfadjoint Toeplitz operators with a radial, bounded and integrable symbol is obtained. This emphasizes the fact that the norm of such operator is strictly less than the supremum norm of the symbol. Consequences for time-frequency localization operators are also given.
In this paper we introduce and prove some properties of $(α;β)$-normal operators according to semi-Hilbertian space structures. Furthermore we s,ate various inequalities between the A-operator norm and A-numerical radius of $(α,β)$-normal operators in semi Hilbertian spaces.
We compute the operator norm of real-quadratic polynomials of the Volterra operator. This is used to test whether the Crouzeix conjecture holds for the Volterra operator.
We consider linear narrow operators on lattice-normed spaces. We prove that, under mild assumptions, every finite rank linear operator is strictly narrow (before it was known that such operators are narrow). Then we show that every dominated, order continuous linear operator from a lattice-normed space over atomless vector lattice to an atomic lattice-normed space is order narrow.
We consider a generalization of Hausdorff operator and introduce the notion of the symbol of such an operator. Using this notion we describe the structure and investigate important properties (such as invertibility, spectrum, norm, and compactness) of normal generalized Hausdorff operators on Lebesgue spaces over $\mathbb{R}^n.$ The examples of Cesàro operators are considered.
We show that there exist infinite-dimensional extremely non-complex Banach spaces, i.e. spaces $X$ such that the norm equality $\|Id + T^2\|=1 + \|T^2\|$ holds for every bounded linear operator $T:X\longrightarrow X$. This answers in the positive Question 4.11 of [Kadets, Martin, Meri, Norm equalities for operators, \emph{Indiana U. Math. J.} \textbf{56} (2007), 2385--2411]. More concretely, we show that this is the case of some $C(K)$ spaces with few operators constructed in [Koszmider, Banach spaces of continuous functions with few operators, \emph{Math. Ann.} \textbf{330} (2004), 151--183] …
In this paper, we characterize absolute norm-attainability for compact hyponormal operators. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for a bounded linear compact hyponormal operator on an infinite dimensional complex Hilbert space to be absolutely norm attaining. Moreover, we discuss the structure of compact hyponormal operators when they are self-adjoint and normal. Lastly, we discuss in general, other properties of compact hyponormal operators when they are absolutely norm attaining and their commutators.
Let $\mathcal{H}$ be a complex, separable Hilbert space and $\mathcal{B}(\mathcal{H})$ denote the algebra of all bounded linear operators acting on $\mathcal{H}$. Given a unitarily-invariant norm $\| \cdot \|_u$ on $\mathcal{B}(\mathcal{H})$ and two linear operators $A$ and $B$ in $\mathcal{B}(\mathcal{H})$, we shall say that $A$ and $B$ are \emph{polynomially isometric relative to} $\| \cdot \|_u$ if $\| p(A) \|_u = \| p(B) \|_u$ for all polynomials $p$. In this paper, we examine to what extent an operator $A$ being polynomially isometric to a normal operator $N$ implies that $A$ is itself no…
We introduce and study the enveloping norms of regularly P-operators between Banach lattices E and F, where P is a subspace of the space L(E,F) of continuous operators from E to F. We prove that if P is closed in L(E,F) in the operator norm then the regularly P-operators forms a Banach space under the enveloping norm. Conditions providing that regularly P-operators forms a Banach lattice under the enveloping norm are given.
Let $H$ be a reflexive, dense, separable, infinite dimensional complex Hilbert space and let $B(H)$ be the algebra of all bounded linear operators on $H$. In this paper, we carry out characterizations of norm-attainable operators in normed spaces. We give conditions for norm-attainability of linear functionals in Banach spaces, non-power operators on $H$ and elementary operators. Lastly, we characterize a new notion of norm-attainability for power operators in normed spaces.
The purpose of this paper is to establish the weighted norm inequalities of one-sided oscillatory integral operators by the aid of interpolation of operators with change of measures.
In this article, we completely characterize absolutely norm attaining Hankel operators and absolutely minimum attaining Toeplitz operators. We also improve \cite[Theorem 2.1]{RGSSSTOE1}, by characterizing the absolutely norm attaining Toeplitz operator $T_φ$ in terms of the symbol $φ\in L^\infty$.
Operator matrices have played a significant role in studying Hilbert space operators. In this paper, we discuss further properties of operator matrices and present new estimates for the operator norms and numerical radii of such operators. Moreover, operator matrices whose real and imaginary parts are positive will be discussed, and sharper bounds will be shown for such class.
We develop the duality theory between ideals of multilinear operators and tensor norms that arises from the geometric approach of $Σ$-operators. To this end, we introduce and develop the notions of $Σ$-ideals of multilinear operators and $Σ$-tensor norms. We establish the foundations of this theory by proving a representation theorem for maximal $Σ$-ideals of multilinear operators by finitely generated $Σ$-tensor norms and a duality theorem for $Σ$-tensor norms. For these notions we also develop basic theory and present concrete examples.
In this paper we characterize essential norm of composition operators on the spaces of Harmonic Bloch functions. These results extends the similar results that were proven for composition operators on Bloch spaces.
Let $H_1$ and $H_2$ be complex Hilbert spaces and $T:H_1\rightarrow H_2$ be a bounded linear operator. We say $T$ to be norm attaining, if there exists $x\in H_1$ with $\|x\|=1$ such that $\|Tx\|=\|T\|$. If for every closed subspace $M$ of $H_1$, the restriction $T|_{M}:M\rightarrow H_2$ is norm attaining then, $T$ is called absolutely norm attaining operator or $\mathcal{AN}$-operator. If we replace the norm of the operator by the minimum modulus $m(T)=\inf{\{\|Tx\|:x\in H_1,\; \|x\|=1}\}$, then $T$ is called the minimum attaining and the absolutely minimum attaining operator (or $\mathcal{AM…
In this paper we study the theory of operators on complex Hilbert spaces, which achieve the norm in the unit sphere. We prove important results concerning the characterization of the AN operators, see Definition 1.2. The class of AN operators contains the algebra of the compact ones.
The paper is devoted to the problem of exact calculation of the norms in ideal spaces for monotone operators on the cones of functions with monotonicity properties. We implement a general approach to this problem that covers many concrete variants of monotone operators in ideal spaces and different monotonicity conditions for functions. As applications, we calculate the norms of some integral operators on the cones, associate norms over some cones in Lebesgue spaces, the norms of the dilation operator and embedding operators on weighted Lorentz spaces with general weights. Under some more gene…
In this paper we continue the study of compact-like operators in lattice normed spaces started recently by Aydin, Emelyanov, Erkurşun Özcand and Marabeh. We show among others, that every p-compact operator between lattice normed spaces is p-bounded. The paper contains answers of almost all questions asked by these authors.
Let $L=-Δ+V$ be a Schrödinger operator, where $Δ$ is the Laplacian operator on $\rz$, while the nonnegative potential $V$ belongs to certain reverse Hölder class. In this paper, we establish some weighted norm inequalities for commutators of Littlewood-Paley functions related to Schrödinger operators.
We give different types of new characterizations for the boundedness and essential norms of generalized weighted composition operators between Zygmund type spaces. Consequently, we obtain new characterizations for the compactness of such operators.
The present paper is mainly concerned with equations involving exponentials of bounded normal operators. Conditions implying commutativity of those normal operators are given. This is carried out without the known $2πi$-congruence-free hypothesis. It is also a continuation of a recent work by the corresponding author.
The main goal of this work is to examine the structure of normal Hausdorff operators on $\mathbb{R}^n$. We show that normal Hausdorff operator in $L^2(\mathbb{R}^n)$ is unitary equivalent to the operator of multiplication by some matrix-function (its matrix symbol) in the space $L^2(\mathbb{R}^n; \mathbb{C}^{2^n}).$ Several corollaries that show that properties of a Hausdorff operator are closely related to the properties of its symbol are considered. In particular, the norm and the spectrum of such operators are described in terms of the symbol.
In this paper, more inequalities between the operator norm and its numerical radius, for the class of normal operators, are established. Some of the obtained results are based on recent reverse results for the Schwarz inequality in Hilbert spaces due to the author.
We give some new estimates for the norm and essential norm of a weighted composition operator on the Bloch space. As corollaries, we obtain some new characterizations of the boundedness and compactness of a weighted composition operator on the Bloch space.
We give necessary and sufficient conditions for a bounded operator defined between complex Hilbert spaces to be absolutely norm attaining. We discuss structure of such operators in the case of self-adjoint and normal operators separately. Finally, we discuss several properties of absolutely norm attaining operators.
Real and complex norms of a linear operator acting on a normed complexified space are considered. Bounds on the ratio of these norms are given. The real and complex norms are shown to coincide for four classes of operators: 1) real linear operators from $L_p(μ_1)$ to $L_q(μ_2)$, $1\leq p\leq q\leq \infty$; 2) real linear operators between inner product spaces; 3) nonnegative linear operators acting between complexified function spaces with absolute and monotonic norms; 4) real linear operators from a complexified function space with a norm satisfying $\|\Re x \|\leq \|x\|$ to $L_\infty(μ)$. Th…
The class of absolutely norming operators on complex Hilbert spaces of arbitrary dimensions was introduced in [6] and a spectral characterization theorem for these operators was established in [11]. In this paper we extend the concept of absolutely norming operators to various symmetric norms. We establish a few spectral characterization theorems for operators on complex Hilbert spaces that are absolutely norming with respect to various symmetric norms. It is also shown that for many symmetric norms the absolutely norming operators have the same spectral characterization as proven earlier for …
Affiliated and normal operators in octonion Hilbert spaces are studied. Theorems about their properties and of related algebras are demonstrated. Spectra of unbounded normal operators are investigated.
We study two classes of bounded operators on mixed norm Lebesgue spaces, namely composition operators and product operators. A complete description of bounded composition operators on mixed norm Lebesgue spaces are given. For a certain class of integral operators, we provide sufficient conditions for boundedness. We conclude by applying the developed technique to the investigation of Hardy-Steklov type operators.
We prove several lower bounds for the norm of a truncated Toeplitz operator and obtain a curious relationship between the $H^2$ and $H^{\infty}$ norms of functions in model spaces.
Let $H_1$, $H_2$ be complex Hilbert spaces. A bounded linear operator $T : H_1 \to H_2$ is said to be norm attaining if there exists a unit vector $x \in H_1$ such that $\|Tx\| = \|T\|$. If $T|_{M} : M \to H_2$ is norm attaining for every closed subspace $M$ of $H_1$, then we say that $T$ is an absolutely norm attaining ($\mathcal{AN}$-operator). If the norm of the operator is replaced by the minimum modulus $m(T) = \inf\{\|Tx\| : x \in H_1, \|x\| =1\}$, then $T$ is said to be a minimum attaining and an absolutely minimum attaining operator ($\mathcal{AM}$-operator), respectively. In this arti…
In this paper, estimates for norms of weighted summation operators (discrete Hardy-type operators) on a tree are obtained for $1<p<q<\infty$ and for arbitrary weights and trees.
