In this paper we study the theory of operators on complex Hilbert spaces, which achieve the norm in the unit sphere. We prove important results concerning the characterization of the AN operators, see Definition 1.2. The class of AN operators contains the algebra of the compact ones.

We introduce and study the enveloping norms of regularly P-operators between Banach lattices E and F, where P is a subspace of the space L(E,F) of continuous operators from E to F. We prove that if P is closed in L(E,F) in the operator norm then the regularly P-operators forms a Banach space under the enveloping norm. Conditions providing that regularly P-operators forms a Banach lattice under the enveloping norm are given.

The main goal of this work is to examine the structure of normal Hausdorff operators on $\mathbb{R}^n$. We show that normal Hausdorff operator in $L^2(\mathbb{R}^n)$ is unitary equivalent to the operator of multiplication by some matrix-function (its matrix symbol) in the space $L^2(\mathbb{R}^n; \mathbb{C}^{2^n}).$ Several corollaries that show that properties of a Hausdorff operator are closely related to the properties of its symbol are considered. In particular, the norm and the spectrum of such operators are described in terms of the symbol.

We give a new definition of a narrow operator where a vector lattice as the domain space of a narrow operator is replaced with a lattice-normed space. In this paper, we show that on the weighted Bergman space of the unit disk the essential norm of a noncompact Hankel operator equals its distance to the set of compact Hankel operators and is realized by infinitely many compact Hankel operators, which is analogous to the theorem of Axler, Berg, Jewell and Shields on the Hardy space in Axler et al.
