An operator $T $ from a vector lattice $E$ into a normed lattice $F$ is called unbounded $σ$-order-to-norm continuous whenever $x_{n}\xrightarrow{uo}0$ implies $\| Tx_{n}\|\rightarrow 0$, for each sequence $(x_{n})_n\subseteq E$. For a net $(x_α)_α\subseteq E$, if $x_α\xrightarrow{un}0$ implies $Tx_α\xrightarrow{un}0$, then $T$ is called an unbounded norm continuous operator.
In this manuscript, we study some properties of these classes of operators and their relationships with the other classes of operators.
Motivated by the equivalent definition of a continuous operator between Banach spaces in terms of weakly null nets, we introduce unbounded continuous operators by replacing weak convergence with the unbounded absolutely weak convergence ( $uaw$-convergence) in the definition of a continuous operator between Banach lattices. We characterize order continuous Banach lattices and reflexive Banach lattices in terms of these spaces of operators. Moreover, motivated by characterizing of a reflexive Banach lattice in terms of unbounded absolutely weakly Cauchy sequences, we consider pre-unbounded oper…
Recently, the functionals different types of unbounded convergences (uo, un, uaw, uaw*) in Banach lattices were studied. In this paper, we study the continuous operators with respect to unbounded convergences. We first investigate the approximation property of continuous operators for unbounded convergence. Then we show some characterizations of the continuity of the continuous operators for uo, un, uaw and uaw*-convergence. Based on these results, we discuss the order-weakly compact operators on Banach lattices. Some related results are obtained as well.
The present paper partly constitutes an "unbounded" follow-up of a paper by I. Kaplansky dealing with bounded products of normal operators. Results on the normality of unbounded products are also included.
Recently, the different types of unbounded convergences (uo, un, uaw, uaw*) in Banach lattices were studied. In this paper, we study the continuous functionals with respect to unbounded convergences. We first characterize the continuity of linear functionals for these convergences. Then we define the corresponding unbounded dual spaces and get their exact form. Based on these results, we discuss order continuity and reflexivity of Banach lattices. Some related results are obtained as well.
In this paper, we introduce and study a new classes of operators, named AM-unbounded norm compact operators. We study the the basic properties of the new operator and we investigate the lattice-order and topology property of the operator space of AM-unbounded norm compact operator.
We prove that the algebraic sum of unbounded normal operators satisfies the square root problem of Kato under appropriate hypotheses. As application, we consider perturbed Schrodinger operators.
The statistically unbounded $p$-convergence is an abstraction of the statistical order, unbounded order, and $p$-convergences. We investigate the concept of the statistically unbounded convergence on lattice-normed Riesz spaces with respect to statistical p-decreasing sequences. Also, we get some relations between this concept and the other kinds of statistical convergences on Riesz spaces.
Few years ago Găvruţa gave the notions of $K$-frame and atomic system for a linear bounded operator $K$ in a Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$ in order to decompose $\mathcal{R}(K)$, the range of $K$, with a frame-like expansion. These notions are here generalized to the case of a densely defined and possibly unbounded operator on a Hilbert space $A$ in a continuous setting, thus extending what have been done in a previous paper in a discrete framework.
In this paper, we continue the investigation of topological properties of unbounded norm (un-)topology in normed lattices. We characterize separability and second countability of un-topology in terms of properties of the underlying normed lattice. We apply our results to prove that an order continuous Banach function space $X$ over a semi-finite measure space is separable if and only if it has a $σ$-finite carrier and is separable with respect to the topology of local convergence in measure. We also address the question when a normed lattice is a normal space with respect to the un-topology.
Unbounded order convergence has lately been systematically studied as a generalization of almost everywhere convergence to the abstract setting of vector and Banach lattices. This paper presents a duality theory for unbounded order convergence. We define the unbounded order dual (or uo-dual) $X_{uo}^\sim$ of a Banach lattice $X$ and identify it as the order continuous part of the order continuous dual $X_n^\sim$. The result allows us to characterize the Banach lattices that have order continuous preduals and to show that an order continuous predual is unique when it exists. Applications to the…
In this paper, we study $un$-dual (in symbol, $\ud{E}$) of Banach lattice $E$ and compare it with topological dual $E^*$. If $E^*$ has order continuous norm, then $E^* = \ud{E}$. We introduce and study weakly unbounded norm topology ($wun$-topology) on Banach lattices and compare it with weak topology and $uaw$-topology. In the final, we introduce and study $wun$-Dunford-Pettis opertors from a Banach lattice $E$ into Banach space $X$ and we investigate some of its properties and its relationships with others known operators.
Fundamental properties of unbounded composition operators in $L^2$-spaces are studied. Characterizations of normal and quasinormal composition operators are provided. Formally normal composition operators are shown to be normal. Composition operators generating Stieltjes moment sequences are completely characterized. The unbounded counterparts of the celebrated Lambert's characterizations of subnormality of bounded composition operators are shown to be false. Various illustrative examples are supplied.
We introduce the class of unbounded $M$-weakly operators and the class of unbounded $L$-weakly compact operators. We investigate some properties for these new classification of operators and we study relation between them and $M$-weakly compact and $L$-weakly compact operators. We also present an operator characterization of Banach lattices with order continuous norm. \keywords{unbounded $M$-weakly compact \and unbounded $L$-weakly compact \and unbounded norm convergence \and $M$-weakly compact \and $L$-weakly compact
Let $(x_α)$ be a net in a vector lattice normed by locally solid lattice $(X,p,E_τ)$. We say that $(x_α)$ is unbounded $p_τ$-convergent to $x\in X$ if $p(\lvert x_α-x\rvert\wedge u)\xrightarrowτ 0$ for every $u\in X_+$. This convergence has been studied recently for lattice-normed vector lattices as the $up$-convergence in \cite{AGG,AEEM,AEEM2}, the $uo$-convergence in \cite{GTX}, and, as the $un$-convergence in \cite{DOT,GX,GTX,KMT,Tr2}. In this paper, we study the general properties of the unbounded $p_τ$-convergence.
A net $x_α$ in a lattice-normed vector lattice $(X,p,E)$ is unbounded $p$-convergent to $x\in X$ if $p(|x_α-x|\wedge u)\xrightarrow{o} 0$ for every $u\in X_+$. This convergence has been investigated recently for $(X,p,E)=(X,\lvert\cdot \rvert,X)$ under the name of $uo$-convergence, for $(X,p,E)=(X,\lVert\cdot\rVert,{\mathbb R})$ under the name of $un$-convergence, and also for $(X,p,{\mathbb R}^{X^*})$, where $p(x)[f]:=|f|(|x|)$, under the name $uaw$-convergence. In this paper we study general properties of the unbounded $p$-convergence.
Motivated by the equivalent definition of a continuous operator between Banach spaces in terms of weakly null nets, we introduce two types of continuous operators between Banach lattices using unbounded absolute weak convergence. We characterize reflexive Banach lattices in terms of these spaces of operators. Furthermore, we investigate whether or not the adjoint of these classes of operators has the corresponding property. In addition, we show that these kinds of operators are norm closed but not order closed. Moreover, we establish how these classes of continuous operators are connected to t…
A net $(x_α)$ in a vector lattice $X$ is unbounded order convergent to $x \in X$ if $\lvert x_α- x\rvert \wedge u$ converges to $0$ in order for all $u\in X_+$. This convergence has been investigated and applied in several recent papers by Gao et al. It may be viewed as a generalization of almost everywhere convergence to general vector lattices. In this paper, we study a variation of this convergence for Banach lattices. A net $(x_α)$ in a Banach lattice $X$ is unbounded norm convergent to $x$ if $\lVert\lvert x_α- x\rvert \wedge u\rVert\to 0$ for all $u\in X_+$. We show that this convergence…
Let $E$ and $F$ be Banach lattices. We show first that the disjointness preserving linear functionals separate the points of any infinite dimensional Banach lattice $E$, which shows that in this case the unbounded disjointness operators from $E\to F$ separate the points of $E$. Then we show that every disjointness preserving operator $T:E\to F$ is norm bounded on an order dense ideal. In case $E$ has order continuous norm, this implies that that every unbounded disjointness preserving map $T:E\to F$ has a unique decomposition $T=R+S$, where $R$ is a bounded disjointness preserving operator and…
In this paper, we generalize the concept of unbounded norm (un) convergence: let $X$ be a normed lattice and $Y$ a vector lattice such that $X$ is an order dense ideal in $Y$; we say that a net $(y_α)$ un-converges to $y$ in $Y$ with respect to $X$ if $\Bigl\lVert\lvert y_α-y\rvert \wedge x\Bigr\rVert\to 0$ for every $x\in X_+$. We extend several known results about un-convergence and un-topology to this new setting. We consider the special case when $Y$ is the universal completion of $X$. If $Y=L_0(μ)$, the space of all $μ$-measurable functions, and $X$ is an order continuous Banach function …
The notion of almost everywhere convergence has been generalized to vector lattices as unbounded order convergence, which proves a very useful tool in the theory of vector and Banach lattices. In this short note, we establish some new results on unbounded order convergence that tie up some loose ends. In particular, we show that every norm bounded positive increasing net in an order continuous Banach lattice is uo-Cauchy and that every uo-Cauchy net in an order continuous Banach lattice has a uo-limit in the universal completion.
A net $(x_α)$ in a vector lattice $X$ is said to be {unbounded order convergent} (or uo-convergent, for short) to $x\in X$ if the net $(\abs{x_α-x}\wedge y)$ converges to 0 in order for all $y\in X_+$. In this paper, we study unbounded order convergence in dual spaces of Banach lattices. Let $X$ be a Banach lattice. We prove that every norm bounded uo-convergent net in $X^*$ is $w^*$-convergent iff $X$ has order continuous norm, and that every $w^*$-convergent net in $X^*$ is uo-convergent iff $X$ is atomic with order continuous norm. We also characterize among $σ$-order complete Banach lattic…
In this paper, we investigate more about relationship between $uaw$ -convergence (resp. $un$-convergence) and the weak convergence. More precisely, we characterize Banach lattices on which every weak null sequence is $uaw$-null. Also, we characterize order continuous Banach lattices under which every norm bounded $un$-null net (resp. sequence) is weakly null. As a consequence, we study relationship between sequentially $uaw$-compact operators and weakly compact operators. Also, it is proved that every continuous operator, from a Banach lattice $E$ into a non-zero Banach space $X$, is unbounded…
Affiliated and normal operators in octonion Hilbert spaces are studied. Theorems about their properties and of related algebras are demonstrated. Spectra of unbounded normal operators are investigated.
In this article we investigate the disjointly non-singular (DNS) operators. Following [8] we say that an operator $T$ from a Banach lattice $F$ into a Banach space $E$ is DNS, if no restriction of $T$ to a subspace generated by a disjoint sequence is strictly singular. We partially answer a question from [8] by showing that this class of operators forms an open subset of $L\left(F,E\right)$ as soon as $F$ is order continuous. Moreover, we show that in this case $T$ is DNS if and only if the norm topology is the minimal topology which is simultaneously stronger than the unbounded norm topology …
In the present paper we give results on the closedness and the self-adjointness of the sum of two unbounded operators. We present a new approach to these fundamental questions in operator theory. We also prove a new version of the Fuglede theorem where the operators involved are all unbounded. This new Fuglede theorem allows us to prove (under extra conditions) that the sum of two unbounded normal operators remains normal. Also a result on the normality of the unbounded product of two normal operators is obtained as a consequence of this new "Fuglede theorem". Some interesting examples are als…
Devinatz, Nussbaum and von Neumann established some important results on the strong commutativity of self-adjoint and normal unbounded operators. In this paper, we prove results in the same spirit.
In this paper we give and prove a criterion for the normality of unbounded closed operators, which is a sort of a maximality result which will be called "double maximality". As applications, we show, under some assumptions, that the sum of two symmetric operators is essentially self-adjoint; and that the sum of two unbounded normal operators is essentially normal. Some other important results are also established.
Let $T:D(T)\rightarrow H_2$ be a densely defined closed operator with domain $D(T)\subset H_1$. We say $T$ to be absolutely minimum attaining if for every closed subspace $M$ of $H_1$, the restriction operator $T|_M:D(T)\cap M\rightarrow H_2$ attains its minimum modulus $m(T|_{M})$. That is, there exists $x \in D(T)\cap M$ with $\|x\|= 1$ and $\|T(x)\| = \inf \{\|T(m)\|: m \in D(T) \cap M: \|m\|=1\}$. In this article, we prove several characterizations of this class of operators and show that every operator in this class has a nontrivial hyperinvariant subspace. We also prove a spectral theore…
Let $A$ and $B$ be two -non necessarily bounded- normal operators. We give new conditions making their product normal. We also generalize a result by Deutsch et al on normal products of matrices.
An adjoint pair is a pair of densely defined linear operators $A, B$ on a Hilbert space such that $\langle Ax,y\rangle=\langle x,By\rangle$ for $x\in \cD(A), y \in \cD(B).$ We consider adjoint pairs for which $0$ is a regular point for both operators and associate a boundary triplet to such an adjoint pair. Proper extensions of the operator $B$ are in one-to-one correspondence $T_\cC\leftrightarrow \cC $ to closed subspaces $\cC$ of $\cN(A^*)\oplus\cN(B^*)$. In the case when $B$ is formally normal and $\cD(A)=\cD(B)$, the normal operators $T_\cC$ are characterized. Next we assume that $B$ has …
In this paper we prove a characterization of continuity for polynomials on a normed space. Namely, we prove that a polynomial is continuous if and only if it maps compact sets into compact sets. We also provide a partial answer to the question as to whether a polynomial is continuous if and only if it transforms connected sets into connected sets. These results motivate the natural question as to how many non-continuous polynomials there are on an infinite dimensional normed space. A problem on the \emph{lineability} of the sets of non-continuous polynomials and multilinear mappings on infinit…
Several recent papers investigated unbounded versions of order and norm convergences in Banach lattices. In this paper, we study the unbounded variant of weak convergence and its relationship with other convergences. In particular, we characterize order continuous Banach lattices and reflexive Banach lattices in terms of this convergence.
Several recent papers investigated unbounded convergences in Banach lattices. Combine all unbounded convergences, including unbounded order (norm, absolute weak, absolute weak*) convergence, we characterize L-weakly compact sets, L-weakly compact operators and M-weakly compact operators on Banach lattices. Some related results are obtained as well.
Several recent papers investigated unbounded and statistical versions of order convergence and topology convergence in locally solid Riesz space. In this papers, we study the statistical unbounded order and topology convergence in Riesz spaces and Banach lattices. In particular, we study the relationship of those convergence and characterize order continuous, KB, reflexive Banach lattices in terms of these convergence.
Based on the concept of unbounded absolutely weakly convergence, we give new characterizations of L-weakly compact sets. As applications, we find some properties of order weakly compact operators. Also, a new characterizations of order continuous Banach lattices are obtained.
A net $(x_α)$ in a Banach lattice $X$ is said to un-converge to a vector $x$ if $\bigl\lVert\lvert x_α-x\rvert\wedge u\bigr\rVert\to 0$ for every $u\in X_+$. In this paper, we investigate un-topology, i.e., the topology that corresponds to un-convergence. We show that un-topology agrees with the norm topology iff $X$ has a strong unit. Un-topology is metrizable iff $X$ has a quasi-interior point. Suppose that $X$ is order continuous, then un-topology is locally convex iff $X$ is atomic. An order continuous Banach lattice $X$ is a KB-space iff its closed unit ball $B_X$ is un-complete. For a Ba…
The problem of approximating the discrete spectra of families of self-adjoint operators that are merely strongly continuous is addressed. It is well-known that the spectrum need not vary continuously (as a set) under strong perturbations. However, it is shown that under an additional compactness assumption the spectrum does vary continuously, and a family of symmetric finite-dimensional approximations is constructed. An important feature of these approximations is that they are valid for the entire family uniformly. An application of this result to the study of plasma instabilities is illustra…
Let l be a Banach sequence space with a monotone norm in which the canonical system (e_{n}) is an unconditional basis. We show that if there exists a continuous linear unbounded operator between l-Köthe spaces, then there exists a continuous unbounded quasi-diagonal operator between them. Using this result, we study in terms of corresponding Köthe matrices when every continuous linear operator between l-Köthe spaces is bounded. As an application, we observe that the existence of an unbounded operator between l-Köthe spaces, under a splitting condition, causes the existence of a common basic su…
The primary purpose of the present paper is to investigate when relations of the types $|AB|=|A||B|$, $|A\pm B|\leq |A|+|B|$, $||A|-|B||\leq |A\pm B|$ and $|\overline{\text{Re} A}|\leq |A|$ (among others) hold in an unbounded operator setting. As interesting consequences, we obtain a characterization of (unbounded) self-adjointness as well as a characterization of invertibility for the class of unbounded normal operators.
Let $x_α$ be a net in a locally solid vector lattice $(X,τ)$; we say that $x_α$ is unbounded $τ$-convergent to a vector $x\in X$ if $\lvert x_α-x \rvert\wedge w \xrightarrowτ 0$ for all $w\in X_+$. In this paper, we study general properties of unbounded $τ$-convergence (shortly, $uτ$-convergence). $uτ$-Convergence generalizes unbounded norm convergence and unbounded absolute weak convergence in normed lattices that have been investigated recently. Besides, we introduce $uτ$-topology and study briefly metrizabililty and completeness of this topology.
Among other results we investigate $\left( α,β\right) $-lineability of the set of non-continuous $m$-linear operators defined between normed spaces as a subset of the space of all $m$-linear operators. We also give a partial answer to an open problem on the lineability of the set of non absolutely summing operators.
Suppose $X$ is a vector lattice and there is a notion of convergence $x_α \rightarrow x$ in $X$. Then we can speak of an "unbounded" version of this convergence by saying that $(x_α)$ unbounded converges to $x\in X$ if $\lvert x_α-x\rvert \wedge u\rightarrow 0$ for every $u \in X_+$. In the literature, the unbounded versions of the norm, order and absolute weak convergence have been studied. Here we create a general theory of unbounded convergence but with a focus on uo-convergence and those convergences deriving from locally solid topologies.
In this paper we consider unbounded weighted conditional type operators on the space Lp, we give some conditions under which they are densely defined and we obtain a dense subset of the domain. Also, we get that a WCT operator is continuous if and only of it is every where defined. A description of polar decomposition, spectrum and spectral radius in this context are provided. Finally, we investigate hyperexpansive WCT operators on the Hilbert space L2. As a consequence hyperexpansive multiplication operators are investigated.
In this paper, we consider \emph{unbounded} weighted composition operators acting on Fock space, and investigate some important properties of these operators, such as $\calC$-selfadjoint (with respect to weighted composition conjugations), Hermitian, normal, cohyponormal, and invertible. In addition, the paper shows that unbounded normal weighted composition operators are contained properly in the class of $\calC$-selfadjoint operators with respect to weighted composition conjugations. The computation of the spectrum is carried out in detail.
We study properties of the topological space of composition operators on the Banach algebra of bounded functions on an unbounded, locally finite metric space in the operator norm topology and essential norm topology. Moreover, we characterize the compactness of differences of two such composition operators.
Let $A$ and $B$ be two densely defined unbounded closeable operators in a Hilbert space such that their unbounded operator products $AB$ and $BA$ are also densely defined. Then all four operators possess adjoints and we obtain new inclusion bounds for the operator product closures $\bar{A} \bar{B}$ and $\bar{AB}$ in terms of new relations among the operator adjoints. These in turn lead to sharpened understandings for when products of unbounded self-adjoint and unbounded normal operators are self-adjoint and normal. They also clarify certain operator-product issues for Dirac operators.
We introduce and study a new class of operators that we call disjoint weak Banach-Saks operators. We establish some characterizations of this class of operators by different types of convergence (norm convergence, unbounded order convergence, unbounded norm convergence and unbounded absolute weak convergence) as well as by the positive weakly null sequences. Consequently, we give a new characterization of the disjoint weak Banach-Saks property by the positive disjoint weakly null sequences. Furthermore, we study the relationship between this class and other classes of operators.
In this paper we deal with unbounded composition operators defined in Orlicz spaces. Indeed, we provide some necessary and sufficient condition for densely definedness of composition operators on Orlicz spaces. Also, we will investigate the adjoint of densely defined composition operators and we give some equivalent conditions for it to be densely defined. In addition, we show that densely defined composition operator is continuous if and only if it is everywhere defined. Finally, we characterize densely defined continuous composition operators.
An acute look at \underbar{basic} facts concerning \underbar{unbounded} subnormal operators is taken here. These operators have the richest structure and are the most exciting among the whole family of beneficiaries of the normal ones. Therefore, the latter must necessarily be taken into account as the reference point for any exposition of subnormality. So as to make the presentation more appealing a kind of comparative survey of the bounded and unbounded case has been set forth. \noindent This piece of writing serves rather as a practical guide to this largely impenetrable territory than an e…
For locally convex spaces $X$ and $Y$, the continuous linear map $T:X \to Y$ is called bounded if there is a zero neighborhood $U$ of $X$ such that $T(U)$ is bounded in $Y$. Our main result is that the existence of an unbounded operator $T$ between Fréchet spaces $E$ and $F$ which factors through a third Fréchet space $G$ ends up with the fact that the triple $(E, G, F)$ has an infinite dimensional closed common nuclear Köthe subspace, provided that $F$ has the property $(y)$.
Unbounded composition operators in $L^2$-space over discrete measure spaces are investigated. Normal, formally normal and quasinormal composition operators acting in $L^2$-spaces of this kind are characterized.
We show that a densely defined closable operator $A$ such that the resolvent set of $A^2$ is not empty is necessarily closed. This result is then extended to the case of a polynomial $p(A)$. We also generalize a recent result by Sebestyén-Tarcsay concerning the converse of a result by J. von Neumann. Other interesting consequences are also given, one of them being a proof that if $T$ is a quasinormal (unbounded) operator such that $T^n$ is normal for some $n\geq2$, then $T$ is normal. By a recent result by Pietrzycki-Stochel, we infer that a closed subnormal operator such that $T^n$ is normal,…
By suitably extending a Feynman-Kac formula of Simon [Canadian Math. Soc. Conf. Proc, 28 (2000), 317-321], we study one-parameter semigroups generated by (the negative of) rather general Schroedinger operators, which may be unbounded from below and include a magnetic vector potential. In particular, a common domain of essential self-adjointness for such a semigroup is specified. Moreover, each member of the semigroup is proven to be a maximal Carleman operator with a continuous integral kernel given by a Brownian-bridge expectation. The results are used to show that the spectral projections of…
Let $B$ be a bounded self-adjoint operator and let $A$ be a nonnegative self-adjoint unbounded operator. It is shown that if $BA$ is normal, it must be self-adjoint and so must be $AB$. Commutativity is necessary and sufficient for this result. If $AB$ is normal, it must be self-adjoint and $BA$ is essentially self-adjoint. Although the two problems seem to be alike, two different and quite interesting approaches are used to tackle each one of them.
