We first give a precise statement on the short time existence of the Calabi flow and prove a stability result: any metric near a constant scalar curvature metric will flow to this cscK metric exponentially fast. Secondly, we prove that a compactness theorem in space of the kahler metrics given unifrom Ricci bound and potential bound. As an application, we prove the Calabi flow can be extended once Ricci curvature stays uniformly bounded. Lastly, we prove a removing-sigularity result about a weak constant scalar curveture metric in a punctured ball. One of the main difficulties is that the metric is not assumed to be smooth outside of the singular point.
Assuming local uniform bounds on the metric for a solution of the Chern-Ricci flow, we establish local Calabi and curvature estimates using the maximum principle.
The Ricci Calabi functional is a functional on the space of Kähler metrics of Fano manifolds. Its critical points are called generalized Kähler Einstein metrics. In this article, we show that the Hessian of the Ricci Calabi functional is non-negative at generalized Kähler Einstein metrics. As its application, we give another proof of a Matsushima's type decomposition theorem for holomorphic vector fields, which was originally proved by Mabuchi. We also discuss a relation to the inverse Monge-Ampère flow developed recently by Collins-Hisamoto-Takahashi.
In this note we give a characterization of Kaehler metrics which are both Calabi extremal and Kaehler-Ricci solitons in terms of complex Hessians and the Riemann curvature tensor. We apply it to prove that, under the assumption of positivity of the holomorphic sectional curvature, these metrics are Einstein.
We study a class of asymptotically cylindrical Ricci-flat Kähler metrics arising on quasiprojective manifolds. Using the Calabi--Yau geometry and analysis and the Kodaira--Kuranishi--Spencer theory and building up on results of N.Koiso for the case of compact manifolds, we show that under rather general hypotheses any `small' asymptotically cylindrical Ricci-flat deformations of asymptotically cylindrical Ricci-flat Kähler metrics are again Kähler, possibly with respect to a perturbed complex structure. We also find the dimension of the moduli space for these small deformations. In the class o…
This paper is a sequel to arXiv:1012.2940. We further investigate the Gromov-Hausdorff convergence of Ricci-flat Kähler metrics under degenerations of Calabi-Yau manifolds. We extend Theorem 1.1 in arXiv:1012.2940 by removing the condition on existence of crepant resolutions for Calabi-Yau varieties.
In this note, we obtain existence results for complete Ricci-flat Kahler metrics on crepant resolutions of singularities of Calabi-Yau varieties. Furthermore, for certain asymptotically flat Calabi-Yau varieties, we show that the Ricci-flat metric on the resolved manifold has the same asymptotic behavior as the initial variety.
We show that, up to the flow of the soliton vector field, there exists a unique complete steady gradient Kähler-Ricci soliton in every Kähler class of an equivariant crepant resolution of a Calabi-Yau cone converging at a polynomial rate to Cao's steady gradient Kähler-Ricci soliton on the cone.
We study the degenerations of asymptotically conical Ricci-flat Kähler metrics as the Kähler class degenerates to a semi-positive class. We show that under appropriate assumptions, the Ricci-flat Kähler metrics converge to a incomplete smooth Ricci-flat Kähler metric away from a compact subvariety. As a consequence, we construct singular Calabi-Yau metrics with asymptotically conical behaviour at infinity on certain quasi-projective varieties and we show that the metric geometry of these singular metrics are homeomorphic to the topology of the singular variety. Finally, we will apply our resul…
We show that the Ricci flat Calabi's metrics on holomorphic line bundles over compact Kaehler-Einstein manifolds are not projectively induced. As a byproduct we solve a conjecture addressed in [arXiv:1705.03908v2 [math.DG]] by proving that any multiple of the Eguchi-Hanson metric on the blow-up of C^2 at the origin is not projectively induced.
We consider the Kähler-Ricci flow on certain Calabi-Yau fibration, which is a Calabi-Yau fibration with one dimensional base or a product of two Calabi-Yau fibrations with one dimensional bases. Assume the Kähler-Ricci flow on total space admits a uniform lower bound for Ricci curvature, then the flow converges in Gromov-Hausdorff topology to the metric completion of the regular part of generalized Kähler-Einstein current on the base, which is a compact length metric space homeomorphic to the base. The analogue results for the continuity method on such Calabi-Yau fibrations are also obtained. …
This is a survey article of the recent progresses on the metric behaviour of Ricci-flat Kähler-Einstein metrics along degenerations of Calabi-Yau manifolds.
We study the limiting behavior of the Kahler-Ricci flow on $\mathbb{P}(\mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{P}^n} \oplus \mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{P}^n}(-1)^{\oplus (m+1)})$, assuming the initial metric satisfies the Calabi symmetry. We show that the flow either shrinks to a point, collapses to $\mathbb{P}^n$ or contracts a subvariety of codimension m+1 in Gromov-Hausdorff sense. We also show that the Kahler-Ricci flow resolves certain type of conical singularities in Gromov-Hausdorff sense.
Let $X$ be a Kähler manifold which is fibered over a complex manifold $Y$ such that every fiber is a Calabi-Yau manifold. Let $ω$ be a fixed Kähler form on $X$. By Yau's theorem, there exists a unique Ricci-flat Kähler form $ρ\vert_{X_y}$ for each fiber, which is cohomologous to $ω\vert_{X_y}$. This family of Ricci-flat Kähler forms $ρ\vert_{X_y}$ induces a smooth $(1,1)$-form $ρ$ on $X$ with a normalization condition. In this paper, we prove that the direct image of $ρ^{n+1}$ is positive on the base $Y$. We also discuss several byproducts, among them the local triviality of families of Calabi…
We study adiabatic limits of Ricci-flat Kahler metrics on a Calabi-Yau manifold which is the total space of a holomorphic fibration when the volume of the fibers goes to zero. By establishing some new a priori estimates for the relevant complex Monge-Ampere equation, we show that the Ricci-flat metrics collapse (away from the singular fibers) to a metric on the base of the fibration. This metric has Ricci curvature equal to a Weil-Petersson metric that measures the variation of complex structure of the Calabi-Yau fibers. This generalizes results of Gross-Wilson for K3 surfaces to higher dimens…
In this paper, we provide new examples of Levi-Civita Ricci-flat Hermitian metrics on certain compact non-Kähler Calabi-Yau manifolds, including every compact Hermitian Weyl-Einstein manifold, every compact locally conformal hyperKähler manifold, certain suspensions of Brieskorn manifolds, and every generalized Hopf manifold provided by suspensions of exotic spheres. These examples generalize previous constructions on Hopf manifolds. Additionally, we also construct new examples of compact Hermitian manifolds with nonnegative first Chern class that admit constant strictly negative Riemannian sc…
This is an expository paper which aims to give a simple proof of the existence of Ricci-flat metrics on certain K3 surfaces, as an illustration of general "glueing" techniques.
Suppose there is a constant scalar curvature metric on a compact Kahler manifold without holomorphic vector field. We prove that the Calabi flow, if it is assumed to exist for all time with bounded Ricci curvature, will converge to the constant scalar curvature metric.
In this paper, we prove the extensions of Bonnet--Myers' type theorems obtained by Calabi and Cheeger--Gromov--Taylor via Bakry--Emery Ricci curvature, which generalize the results of \cite{FG, Lim1, Wan, Wang, WW, Wu}.
In this paper, we study the behavior of Ricci-flat Kähler metrics on Calabi-Yau manifolds under algebraic geometric surgeries: extremal transitions or flops. We prove a version of Candelas and de la Ossa's conjecture: Ricci-flat Calabi-Yau manifolds related by extremal transitions and flops can be connected by a path consisting of continuous families of Ricci-flat Calabi-Yau manifolds and a compact metric space in the Gromov-Hausdorff topology. In an essential step of the proof of our main result, the convergence of Ricci-flat Kähler metrics on Calabi-Yau manifolds along a smoothing is establi…
In this paper, we study the geometry of compact complex manifolds with Levi-Civita Ricci-flat metrics and prove that compact complex surfaces admitting Levi-Civita Ricci-flat metrics are Kahler Calabi-Yau surfaces or Hopf surfaces.
We study the behaviour of families of Ricci-flat Kahler metrics on a projective Calabi-Yau manifold when the Kahler classes degenerate to the boundary of the ample cone. We prove that if the limit class is big and nef the Ricci-flat metrics converge smoothly on compact sets outside a subvariety to a limit incomplete Ricci-flat metric. The limit can also be understood from algebraic geometry.
For triangulated surfaces, we introduce the combinatorial Calabi flow which is an analogue of smooth Calabi flow. We prove that the solution of combinatorial Calabi flow exists for all time. Moreover, the solution converges if and only if Thurston's circle packing exists. As a consequence, combinatorial Calabi flow provides a new algorithm to find circle packings with prescribed curvatures. The proofs rely on careful analysis of combinatorial Calabi energy, combinatorial Ricci potential and discrete dual-Laplacians.
In this work, we study the H\"older regularity of the Kähler- Ricci flow on compact Kähler manifolds with semi-ample canonical line bundle. By adapting the method in the work of Hein-Tosatti on collapsing Calabi-Yau metrics, we obtain a uniform spatial Hölder estimate of the Kähler-Ricci flow for all time.
In this note, using Calabi's method, we construct rotationally symmetric Kahler-Ricci solitons on the total space of direct sum of fixed hermitian line bundle and its projective compactification, where the curvature of hermitian line bundle is Kahler-Einstein. These examples generalize the construction of Koiso, Cao and Feldman-Ilmanen-Knopf.
In this short note, we prove that a Calabi extremal Kaehler-Ricci soliton on a compact toric Kaehler manifold is Einstein. This solves for the class of toric manifolds a general problem stated by the authors that they solved only under some curvature assumptions.
We investigate the Kahler-Ricci flow on holomorphic fiber spaces whose generic fiber is a Calabi-Yau manifold. We establish uniform metric convergence to a metric on the base, away from the singular fibers, and show that the rescaled metrics on the fibers converge to Ricci-flat Kahler metrics. This strengthens previous work of Song-Tian and others. We obtain analogous results for degenerations of Ricci-flat Kahler metrics.
In this paper, we consider Kahler-Ricci flow on n-dimensional Kahler manifold with semi-ample canonical line bundle and 0< m:= Kod(X)<n. Such manifolds admit a Calabi-Yau fibration over its canonical model. We prove that the scalar curvature of the Kahler metric along the normalized Kahler-Ricci flow converge to -m outside the singular set of this fibration.
In this paper, the author has considered the hyperbolic Kahler-Ricci flow introduced by Kong and Liu [11], that is, the hyperbolic version of the famous Kahler-Ricci flow. The author has explained the derivation of the equation and calculated the evolutions of various quantities associated to the equation including the curvatures. Particularly on Calabi-Yau manifolds, the equation can be simplified to a scalar hyperbolic Monge-Ampere equation which is just the hyperbolic version of the corresponding one in Kahler-Ricci flow.
We survey some recent developments in the study of collapsing Riemannian manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded below, especially the locally bounded Ricci covering geometry and the Ricci flow smoothing techniques. We then prove that if a Calabi-Yau manifold is sufficiently volume collapsed with bounded diameter and sectional curvature, then it admits a Ricci-flat Kähler metrictogether with a compatible pure nilpotent Killing structure: this is related to an open question of Cheeger, Fukaya and Gromov.
This note studies the equivalencies among convergences of Ricci-flat Kähler-Einstein metrics on Calabi-Yau manifolds, cohomology classes and potential functions.
Open Calabi-Yau manifolds and log Calabi-Yau varieties have been broadly studied over decades. Regarding them as "semistable" objects, we propose to consider their good proper subclass, which we regard as certain poly-stable ones, morally corresponding to semistable with closed (minimal) orbits} as the classical analogue of GIT. We partially confirm that the new polystability seems equivalent to the existence of non-compact complete Ricci-flat Kahler metrics with small volume growths, notably many examples of gravitational instantons. Also, we prove some compactness or polystable reduction typ…
In the present paper we provide a description of complete Calabi-Yau metrics on the canonical bundle of generalized complex flag manifolds. By means of Lie theory we give an explicit description of complete Ricci-flat Kähler metrics obtained through the Calabi ansatz technique. We use this approach to provide several explicit examples of noncompact complete Calabi-Yau manifolds, these examples include canonical bundles of non-toric flag manifolds (e.g. Grassmann manifolds and full flag manifolds).
Based on the compactness of the moduli of non-collapsed Calabi-Yau spaces with mild singularities, we set up a structure theory for polarized Kähler Ricci flows with proper geometric bounds. Our theory is a generalization of the structure theory of non-collapsed Kähler Einstein manifolds. As applications, we prove the Hamilton-Tian conjecture and the partial-$C^0$-conjecture of Tian.
We study the convergence and curvature blow up of La Nave and Tian's continuity method on a generalised Hirzebruch surface. We show that the Gromov-Hausdorff convergence is similar to that of the Kahler-Ricci flow and obtain curvature estimates. We also show that a general solution to the continuity method either exist or all times, or the scalar curvature blows up. This behavior is known to be exhibited by the Kahler-Ricci flow.
Let $(X, P)$ be a toric variety. In this note, we show that the $C^0$-norm of the Calabi flow $φ(t)$ on $X$ is uniformly bounded in $[0, T)$ if the Sobolev constant of $φ(t)$ is uniformly bounded in $[0, T)$. We also show that if $(X, P)$ is uniform $K$-stable, then the modified Calabi flow converges exponentially fast to an extremal Kähler metric if the Ricci curvature and the Sobolev constant are uniformly bounded. At last, we discuss an extension of our results to a quasi-proper Kähler manifold.
We study an analogue of the Calabi flow in the non-Kähler setting for compact Hermitian manifolds with vanishing first Bott-Chern class. We prove a priori estimates for the evolving metric along the flow given a uniform bound on the Chern scalar curvature. If the Chern scalar curvature remains uniformly bounded for all time, we show that the flow converges smoothly to the unique Chern-Ricci-flat metric in the $\partial\bar{\partial}$-class of the initial metric.
We study singularity formation of Kähler-Ricci flow on a Kähler manifold that admits a horizontally homothetic conformal submersion into another Kähler manifold. We will derive necessary and sufficient conditions for the preservation of horizontally homothetic conformal submersion along the flow and establish the formation of type I singularity together with a standard splitting of the Cheeger-Gromov limit. This generalizes the setup of Calabi symmetry that was discussed in \cite{1} and \cite{2}, thus gives new proofs for the results listed there.
Let $X_0$ be an affine variety with only normal isolated singularity $p$ and $π: X\to X_0$ a smooth resolution of the singularity with trivial canonical line bundle $K_X$. If the complement of the affine variety $X_0\backslash\{p\}$ is the cone $C(S)=\Bbb R_{>0}\times S$ of an Einstein-Sasakian manifold $S$, we shall prove that the crepant resolution $X$ of $X_0$ admits a complete Ricci-flat Kähler metric in every Kähler class in $H^2(X)$. We apply the continuity method for solving the Monge-Ampère equation to obtain a relevant existence theorem and a uniqueness theorem of Ricci-flat conical K…
We show that a complete gradient Ricci soliton $(M^n,\,g)$ with constant scalar curvature and a non-parallel closed conformal vector field is isometric to either the Euclidean space, or an Euclidean sphere, or negatively Einstein warped product of the real line with a complete non-positively Einstein manifold. Moreover, we show that a Kähler gradient Ricci soliton of real dimension $\ge 4$, with a non-parallel closed conformal real vector field is Ricci-flat (Calabi-Yau) and is flat in dimension 4. Finally, we show that a Ricci soliton whose associated 1-form is harmonic, has constant scalar c…
Given a weighted line arrangement in the projective plane, with weights satisfying natural constraint conditions, we show the existence of a Ricci-flat Kähler metric with cone singularities along the lines asymptotic to a polyhedral Kähler cone at each multiple point. Moreover, we discuss a Chern-Weil formula that expresses the energy of the metric as a `logarithmic' Euler characteristic with points weighted according to the volume density of the metric.
In this paper, we first prove a folklore conjecture on a greatest lower bound of the Calabi energy in all Kähler manifold. Similar result in algebriac setting was obtained by S. K. Donaldson. Secondly, we give an upper/lower bound estimate of the K energy in terms of the geodesic distance and the Calabi energy. This is used to prove a theorem on convergence of Kähler metrics in holomorphic coordinates, with uniform bound on the Ricci curvature and the diameter. Thirdly, we set up a framework for the existence of geodesic rays when an asymptotic direction is given. I
We extend the concept of singular Ricci flow by Kleiner and Lott from 3d compact manifolds to 3d complete manifolds with possibly unbounded curvature. As an application of the generalized singular Ricci flow, we show that for any 3d complete Riemannian manifold with non-negative Ricci curvature, there exists a smooth Ricci flow starting from it.
Let $M$ be a complete Ricci-flat Kahler manifold with one end and assume that this end converges at an exponential rate to $[0,\infty) \times X$ for some compact connected Ricci-flat manifold $X$. We begin by proving general structure theorems for $M$; in particular we show that there is no loss of generality in assuming that $M$ is simply-connected and irreducible with Hol$(M)$ $=$ SU$(n)$, where $n$ is the complex dimension of $M$. If $n > 2$ we then show that there exists a projective orbifold $\bar{M}$ and a divisor $\bar{D}$ in $|{-K_{\bar{M}}}|$ with torsion normal bundle such that $M$ i…
