The Ricci Calabi functional is a functional on the space of Kähler metrics of Fano manifolds. Its critical points are called generalized Kähler Einstein metrics. In this article, we show that the Hessian of the Ricci Calabi functional is non-negative at generalized Kähler Einstein metrics. As its application, we give another proof of a Matsushima's type decomposition theorem for holomorphic vector fields, which was originally proved by Mabuchi. We also discuss a relation to the inverse Monge-Ampère flow developed recently by Collins-Hisamoto-Takahashi.
In this paper, we study and partially classify those Riemannian man-ifolds carrying a non-identically vanishing function f whose Hessian is minus f times the Ricci-tensor of the manifold.
Assuming local uniform bounds on the metric for a solution of the Chern-Ricci flow, we establish local Calabi and curvature estimates using the maximum principle.
In this note we give a characterization of Kaehler metrics which are both Calabi extremal and Kaehler-Ricci solitons in terms of complex Hessians and the Riemann curvature tensor. We apply it to prove that, under the assumption of positivity of the holomorphic sectional curvature, these metrics are Einstein.
We study a class of asymptotically cylindrical Ricci-flat Kähler metrics arising on quasiprojective manifolds. Using the Calabi--Yau geometry and analysis and the Kodaira--Kuranishi--Spencer theory and building up on results of N.Koiso for the case of compact manifolds, we show that under rather general hypotheses any `small' asymptotically cylindrical Ricci-flat deformations of asymptotically cylindrical Ricci-flat Kähler metrics are again Kähler, possibly with respect to a perturbed complex structure. We also find the dimension of the moduli space for these small deformations. In the class o…
We establish variational formulas for Ricci upper and lower bounds, as well as a derivative formula for the Ricci curvature. As applications, constant curvature manifolds, Einstein manifolds and Ricci parallel manifolds are identified, respectively, with different integral-differential formulas and semigroup inequalities. Moreover, by using derivative and Hessian formulas for the heat semigroup $P_t$ developed from stochastic analysis, explicit Hessian estimates are derived on Einstein and Ricci parallel manifolds.
This paper is a sequel to arXiv:1012.2940. We further investigate the Gromov-Hausdorff convergence of Ricci-flat Kähler metrics under degenerations of Calabi-Yau manifolds. We extend Theorem 1.1 in arXiv:1012.2940 by removing the condition on existence of crepant resolutions for Calabi-Yau varieties.
In this note, we obtain existence results for complete Ricci-flat Kahler metrics on crepant resolutions of singularities of Calabi-Yau varieties. Furthermore, for certain asymptotically flat Calabi-Yau varieties, we show that the Ricci-flat metric on the resolved manifold has the same asymptotic behavior as the initial variety.
We show that, up to the flow of the soliton vector field, there exists a unique complete steady gradient Kähler-Ricci soliton in every Kähler class of an equivariant crepant resolution of a Calabi-Yau cone converging at a polynomial rate to Cao's steady gradient Kähler-Ricci soliton on the cone.
We study the degenerations of asymptotically conical Ricci-flat Kähler metrics as the Kähler class degenerates to a semi-positive class. We show that under appropriate assumptions, the Ricci-flat Kähler metrics converge to a incomplete smooth Ricci-flat Kähler metric away from a compact subvariety. As a consequence, we construct singular Calabi-Yau metrics with asymptotically conical behaviour at infinity on certain quasi-projective varieties and we show that the metric geometry of these singular metrics are homeomorphic to the topology of the singular variety. Finally, we will apply our resul…
We consider the Kähler-Ricci flow on certain Calabi-Yau fibration, which is a Calabi-Yau fibration with one dimensional base or a product of two Calabi-Yau fibrations with one dimensional bases. Assume the Kähler-Ricci flow on total space admits a uniform lower bound for Ricci curvature, then the flow converges in Gromov-Hausdorff topology to the metric completion of the regular part of generalized Kähler-Einstein current on the base, which is a compact length metric space homeomorphic to the base. The analogue results for the continuity method on such Calabi-Yau fibrations are also obtained. …
We show that the Ricci flat Calabi's metrics on holomorphic line bundles over compact Kaehler-Einstein manifolds are not projectively induced. As a byproduct we solve a conjecture addressed in [arXiv:1705.03908v2 [math.DG]] by proving that any multiple of the Eguchi-Hanson metric on the blow-up of C^2 at the origin is not projectively induced.
This is a survey article of the recent progresses on the metric behaviour of Ricci-flat Kähler-Einstein metrics along degenerations of Calabi-Yau manifolds.
We study the limiting behavior of the Kahler-Ricci flow on $\mathbb{P}(\mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{P}^n} \oplus \mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{P}^n}(-1)^{\oplus (m+1)})$, assuming the initial metric satisfies the Calabi symmetry. We show that the flow either shrinks to a point, collapses to $\mathbb{P}^n$ or contracts a subvariety of codimension m+1 in Gromov-Hausdorff sense. We also show that the Kahler-Ricci flow resolves certain type of conical singularities in Gromov-Hausdorff sense.
We characterize those complete K{ä}hler manifolds supporting a nonconstant real-valued function with critical points whose Hessian is complex linear, has pointwise two eigenvalues and whose gradient is a Hessian-eigenvector.
On a manifold of dimension at least six, let $(g,τ)$ be a pair consisting of a Kähler metric g which is locally Kähler irreducible, and a nonconstant smooth function $τ$. Off the zero set of $τ$, if the metric $\hat{g}=g/τ^2$ is a gradient Ricci soliton which has soliton function $1/τ$, we show that $\hat{g}$ is Kähler with respect to another complex structure, and locally of a type first described by Koiso. Moreover, $τ$ is a special Kähler-Ricci potential, a notion defined in earlier works of Derdzinski and Maschler. The result extends to dimension four with additional assumptions. We also d…
Let $X$ be a Kähler manifold which is fibered over a complex manifold $Y$ such that every fiber is a Calabi-Yau manifold. Let $ω$ be a fixed Kähler form on $X$. By Yau's theorem, there exists a unique Ricci-flat Kähler form $ρ\vert_{X_y}$ for each fiber, which is cohomologous to $ω\vert_{X_y}$. This family of Ricci-flat Kähler forms $ρ\vert_{X_y}$ induces a smooth $(1,1)$-form $ρ$ on $X$ with a normalization condition. In this paper, we prove that the direct image of $ρ^{n+1}$ is positive on the base $Y$. We also discuss several byproducts, among them the local triviality of families of Calabi…
We first give a precise statement on the short time existence of the Calabi flow and prove a stability result: any metric near a constant scalar curvature metric will flow to this cscK metric exponentially fast. Secondly, we prove that a compactness theorem in space of the kahler metrics given unifrom Ricci bound and potential bound. As an application, we prove the Calabi flow can be extended once Ricci curvature stays uniformly bounded. Lastly, we prove a removing-sigularity result about a weak constant scalar curveture metric in a punctured ball. One of the main difficulties is that the metr…
We study adiabatic limits of Ricci-flat Kahler metrics on a Calabi-Yau manifold which is the total space of a holomorphic fibration when the volume of the fibers goes to zero. By establishing some new a priori estimates for the relevant complex Monge-Ampere equation, we show that the Ricci-flat metrics collapse (away from the singular fibers) to a metric on the base of the fibration. This metric has Ricci curvature equal to a Weil-Petersson metric that measures the variation of complex structure of the Calabi-Yau fibers. This generalizes results of Gross-Wilson for K3 surfaces to higher dimens…
In this paper we study a Ricci-Hessian type manifold $(\Bbb{M},g,φ,f,λ)$ which is closely related to the construction of almost Ricci soliton realized as a warped product. We classify certain classes of the Ricci-Hessian type manifolds and derive some implications for almost Ricci solitons and generalized $m$--quasi-Einstein manifolds. We consider two complementary cases: $\nabla f$ and $\nablaφ$ are linearly independent in $C^\infty(\Bbb{M})$--module $\mathfrak{X}(\Bbb{M})$; and $\nabla f=h\nablaφ$ for a smooth function $h$ on $\Bbb{M}$. In the first case we show that the vector field $\nabla…
This is an expository paper which aims to give a simple proof of the existence of Ricci-flat metrics on certain K3 surfaces, as an illustration of general "glueing" techniques.
In this paper, we provide new examples of Levi-Civita Ricci-flat Hermitian metrics on certain compact non-Kähler Calabi-Yau manifolds, including every compact Hermitian Weyl-Einstein manifold, every compact locally conformal hyperKähler manifold, certain suspensions of Brieskorn manifolds, and every generalized Hopf manifold provided by suspensions of exotic spheres. These examples generalize previous constructions on Hopf manifolds. Additionally, we also construct new examples of compact Hermitian manifolds with nonnegative first Chern class that admit constant strictly negative Riemannian sc…
Suppose there is a constant scalar curvature metric on a compact Kahler manifold without holomorphic vector field. We prove that the Calabi flow, if it is assumed to exist for all time with bounded Ricci curvature, will converge to the constant scalar curvature metric.
In this paper, we prove the extensions of Bonnet--Myers' type theorems obtained by Calabi and Cheeger--Gromov--Taylor via Bakry--Emery Ricci curvature, which generalize the results of \cite{FG, Lim1, Wan, Wang, WW, Wu}.
In this paper, we study the behavior of Ricci-flat Kähler metrics on Calabi-Yau manifolds under algebraic geometric surgeries: extremal transitions or flops. We prove a version of Candelas and de la Ossa's conjecture: Ricci-flat Calabi-Yau manifolds related by extremal transitions and flops can be connected by a path consisting of continuous families of Ricci-flat Calabi-Yau manifolds and a compact metric space in the Gromov-Hausdorff topology. In an essential step of the proof of our main result, the convergence of Ricci-flat Kähler metrics on Calabi-Yau manifolds along a smoothing is establi…
In this paper, we study the geometry of compact complex manifolds with Levi-Civita Ricci-flat metrics and prove that compact complex surfaces admitting Levi-Civita Ricci-flat metrics are Kahler Calabi-Yau surfaces or Hopf surfaces.
We study the behaviour of families of Ricci-flat Kahler metrics on a projective Calabi-Yau manifold when the Kahler classes degenerate to the boundary of the ample cone. We prove that if the limit class is big and nef the Ricci-flat metrics converge smoothly on compact sets outside a subvariety to a limit incomplete Ricci-flat metric. The limit can also be understood from algebraic geometry.
In this work, we study the H\"older regularity of the Kähler- Ricci flow on compact Kähler manifolds with semi-ample canonical line bundle. By adapting the method in the work of Hein-Tosatti on collapsing Calabi-Yau metrics, we obtain a uniform spatial Hölder estimate of the Kähler-Ricci flow for all time.
We construct gradient Kähler-Ricci solitons on Ricci-flat Kähler cone manifolds and on line bundles over toric Fano manifolds. Certain shrinking and expanding solitons are pasted together to form eternal solutions of the Ricci flow. The method we employ is the Calabi ansatz over Sasaki-Einstein manifolds, and the results generalize constructions of Cao and Feldman-Ilmanen-Knopf.
In this note, we prove triviality and nonexistence results for gradient Ricci soliton warped metrics. The proofs stem from the construction of gradient Ricci solitons that are realized as warped products, from which we know that the base spaces of these products are Ricci-Hessian type manifolds. We study this latter class of manifolds as the most appropriate setting to prove our results.
In this note, using Calabi's method, we construct rotationally symmetric Kahler-Ricci solitons on the total space of direct sum of fixed hermitian line bundle and its projective compactification, where the curvature of hermitian line bundle is Kahler-Einstein. These examples generalize the construction of Koiso, Cao and Feldman-Ilmanen-Knopf.
In this short note, we prove that a Calabi extremal Kaehler-Ricci soliton on a compact toric Kaehler manifold is Einstein. This solves for the class of toric manifolds a general problem stated by the authors that they solved only under some curvature assumptions.
In this paper, we prove that complete gradient steady Kähler-Ricci solitons with harmonic Bochner tensor are necessarily Kähler-Ricci flat, i.e., Calabi-Yau, and that complete gradient shrinking (or expanding) Kähler-Ricci solitons with harmonic Bochner tensor must be isometric to a quotient of $N^k\times \mathbb{C}^{n-k}$, where $N$ is a Kähler-Einstein manifold with positive (or negative) scalar curvature.
We establish an unexpected relation among the Weil-Petersson metric, the generalized Hodge metrics and the BCOV torsion. Using this relation, we prove that certain kind of moduli spaces of polarized Calabi-Yau manifolds do not admit complete subvarieties. That is, there is no complete family for certain class of polarized Calabi-Yau manifolds. We also give an estimate of the complex Hessian of the BCOV torsion using the relation. After establishing a degenerate version of the Schwarz Lemma of Yau, we prove that the complex Hessian of the BCOV torsion is bounded by the Poincaré metric.
We investigate the Kahler-Ricci flow on holomorphic fiber spaces whose generic fiber is a Calabi-Yau manifold. We establish uniform metric convergence to a metric on the base, away from the singular fibers, and show that the rescaled metrics on the fibers converge to Ricci-flat Kahler metrics. This strengthens previous work of Song-Tian and others. We obtain analogous results for degenerations of Ricci-flat Kahler metrics.
In this note, we propose a new approach to solving the Calabi problem on manifolds with edge-cone singularities of prescribed angles along complex hypersurfaces. It is shown how the classical approach of Aubin-Yau in derving {\it a priori} estimates for the complex hessian can be made to work via adopting a \emph{good reference metric} and studying equivalent equations with different referrence metrics. This further allows extending much of the methods used in the smooth setting to the edge setting. These results generalise to the case of multiple hypersufaces with possibly normal crossing.
This note studies the equivalencies among convergences of Ricci-flat Kähler-Einstein metrics on Calabi-Yau manifolds, cohomology classes and potential functions.
In the present paper we provide a description of complete Calabi-Yau metrics on the canonical bundle of generalized complex flag manifolds. By means of Lie theory we give an explicit description of complete Ricci-flat Kähler metrics obtained through the Calabi ansatz technique. We use this approach to provide several explicit examples of noncompact complete Calabi-Yau manifolds, these examples include canonical bundles of non-toric flag manifolds (e.g. Grassmann manifolds and full flag manifolds).
Open Calabi-Yau manifolds and log Calabi-Yau varieties have been broadly studied over decades. Regarding them as "semistable" objects, we propose to consider their good proper subclass, which we regard as certain poly-stable ones, morally corresponding to semistable with closed (minimal) orbits} as the classical analogue of GIT. We partially confirm that the new polystability seems equivalent to the existence of non-compact complete Ricci-flat Kahler metrics with small volume growths, notably many examples of gravitational instantons. Also, we prove some compactness or polystable reduction typ…
