A theory of monoids in the category of bicomodules of a coalgebra $C$ or $C$-rings is developed. This can be viewed as a dual version of the coring theory. The notion of a matrix ring context consisting of two bicomodules and two maps is introduced and the corresponding example of a $C$-ring (termed a {\em matrix $C$-ring}) is constructed. It is shown that a matrix ring context can be associated to any bicomodule which is a one-sided quasi-finite injector. Based on this, the notion of a {\em Galois module} is introduced and the structure theorem, generalising Schneider's Theorem II [H.-J. Schneider, Israel J. Math., 72 (1990), 167--195], is proven. This is then applied to the $C$-ring associated to a weak entwining structure and a structure theorem for a weak $A$-Galois coextension is derived. The theory of matrix ring contexts for a firm coalgebra (or {\em infinite matrix ring contexts}) is outlined. A Galois connection associated to a matrix $C$-ring is constructed.
We provide necessary and sufficient conditions to extend the Hopf-Galois algebra structure on an algebra R to a generalized ambiskew ring based on R, in a way such that the added variables for the extension are skew-primitive in an appropriate sense. We show that the associated Hopf algebra is again a a generalized ambiskew ring, based on a suitable Hopf algebra H(R). Several examples are examined, including the Hopf-Galois objects over Uq(sl2).
In this paper, our objects of interest are Hopf Galois extensions (e.g., Hopf algebras, Galois field extensions, strongly graded algebras, crossed products, principal bundles, etc.) and families of noncommutative rings (e.g., skew polynomial rings, PBW extensions and skew PBW extensions, etc.). We collect and systematize questions, problems, properties and recent advances in both theories by explicitly developing examples and doing calculations that are usually omitted in the literature. In particular, for Hopf Galois extensions we consider approaches from the point of view of quantum torsors …
In this work, we present a standard model for Galois rings based on the standard model of their residual fields, that is, a sequence of Galois rings starting with ${\mathbb Z}_{p^r} that coves all the Galois rings with that characteristic ring and such that there is an algorithm producing each member of the sequence whose input is the size of the required ring.
Let $n; r; e; s$ be are positive integers and the prime p; the finite local principal ideals ring of parameters $p; n; r; e; s)$ $GR(p^n;r)[x]/(x^e - pu ; x^s),$ is defined by an invertible element u of the Galois ring $GR(p^n; r)$ of characteristic $p^n$ of order $p^{nr}.$ It is called Galois-Eisenstein ring of parameters $(p; n; r; e; s)$. A basic problem, which seems to be very difficult is to determine all non-isomorphism pure Galois-Eisenstein rings of parameters $(p; n; r; e; s).$ In this paper, this isomorphism problem for pure Galois-Eisenstein rings of parameters $(p; n; r; e; s)$ is …
We attach to any commutative ring R a subgroup of the Brauer group of R, called the Brauer-Galois group of R. Its elements are the classes of the Azumaya R-algebras which can be represented, via Brauer equivalence, by a Galois extension of R. We compute this group for some particular commutative fields.
We give a notion of a comatrix coring which embodies all former constructions and, what is more interesting, leads to the formulation of a notion of Galois coring and the statement of a Faithfully Flat Descent Theorem that generalize the previous versions.
Partial Galois extensions were recently introduced by Dokuchaev, Ferrero and Paques. We introduce partial Galois extensions for noncommutative rings, using the theory of Galois corings. We associate a Morita context to a partial action on a ring.
A Galois field extension $E/F$ whose Galois group is a pro-2-group of an exponent of at most 8, with a nilpotency class of at most 4, is determined, such that it contains essential information about the Witt rings of all quadratic extensions of $F$.
We study the cyclic module ${}_SR$ for a ring extension $A \| B$ with centralizer $R$ and bimodule endomorphism ring $S = End {}_BA_B$. We show that if $A \| B$ is an H-separable Hopf subalgebra, then $B$ is a normal Hopf subalgebra of $A$. We observe from math.RA/0107064 and math.RA/0108067 depth two in the role of noncommutative normality (as in field theory) in a depth two separable Frobenius characterization of irreducible semisimple-Hopf-Galois extensions. We prove that a depth two extension has a Galois $A$-coring structure on $A ø_R T$ where $T$ is the right $R$-bialgebroid dual to $S$.
We introduce and develop a structure theory of a new class of noncommutative rings - Galois orders, that generalize classical orders in noncommutative rings. Galois orders realized as certain subrings of invariants in skew semigroup rings. This class of rings contains many classical objects, in particular the Generalized Weyl algebras, the universal enveloping algebra of the general linear Lie algebra and certain rings of invariant differential operators on algebraic varieties.
We show the close connection between appearingly different Galois theories for comodules introduced recently in [J. Gómez-Torrecillas and J. Vercruysse, Comatrix corings and Galois Comodules over firm rings, arXiv:math.RA/0509106.] and [R. Wisbauer, On Galois comodules (2004), to appear in Comm. Algebra.]. Furthermore we study equivalences between categories of comodules over a coring and modules over a firm ring. We show that these equivalences are related to Galois theory for comodules.
Galois closures of commutative rank n ring extensions were introduced by Bhargava and the second author. In this paper, we generalize the construction to the case of non-commutative rings. We show that non-commutative Galois closures commute with base change and satisfy a product formula. As an application, we give a uniform construction of many of the representations arising in arithmetic invariant theory, including many Vinberg representations.
Recently, Doröz et al. (2017) proposed a new hard problem, called the finite field isomorphism problem, and constructed a fully homomorphic encryption scheme based on this problem. In this paper, we generalize the problem to the case of Galois rings, resulting in the Galois ring isomorphism problem. The generalization is achieved by lifting the isomorphism between the corresponding residue fields. As a result, this generalization allows us to construct cryptographic primitives over the ring of integers modulo a prime power, instead of a large prime number.
The Jacobson-Bourbaki Theorem for division rings was formulated in terms of corings by Sweedler in 1975. Finiteness conditions hypotheses are not required in this new approach. In this paper we extend Sweedler's result to simple artinian rings using a particular class of corings, comatrix corings. A Jacobson-Bourbaki like correspondence for simple artinian rings is then obtained by duality.
We introduce an $A_\infty$-algebra structure on the Hochschild cohomology of the endomorphism bimodule of a finite-dimensional representation of an associative algebra. We prove that this structure determines a presentation for non-commutative deformations of the representation. From this, we deduce presentations of universal deformation rings of Galois representations. In turn, we apply these presentations in order to deduce universal deformation rings of Galois pseudorepresentations, supplying a a tangent and obstruction theory for pseudorepresentations. This generalizes the broadly used tan…
In this note we study Morita contexts and Galois extensions for corings. For a coring $\QTR{cal}{C}$ over a (not necessarily commutative) ground ring $A$ we give equivalent conditions for $\QTR{cal}{M}^{\QTR{cal}{C}}$ to satisfy the weak. resp. the strong structure theorem. We also characterize the so called \QTR{em}{cleft}$C$\QTR{em}{-Galois extensions} over commutative rings. Our approach is similar to that of Y. Doi and A. Masuoka in their work on (cleft) $H$-Galois extensions.
Self-dual and complementary dual cyclic/abelian codes over finite fields form important classes of linear codes that have been extensively studied due to their rich algebraic structures and wide applications. In this paper, abelian codes over Galois rings are studied in terms of the ideals in the group ring ${\rm GR}(p^r,s)[G]$, where $G$ is a finite abelian group and ${\rm GR}(p^r,s)$ is a Galois ring. Characterizations of self-dual abelian codes have been given together with necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a self-dual abelian code in ${\rm GR}(p^r,s)[G]$. A general f…
In this paper I generalize the notion of a polynomial over an ordered field to that of a naked polynomial over a non-Archimedean ordered field, subsequently showing that the notion of a naked polynomial ring forms an Euclidean domain. This canonically generalizes the methods of Galois theory of fields and polynomial rings to a transfinite Galois theory of non-Archimedean ordered fields and naked polynomial rings, lifting the processes of splitting and algebraic closure to non-Archimedean ordered fields.
It is shown in this paper that, if $R$ is a Frobenius ring, then the quaternion ring $\mathcal{H}_{a,b}(R)$ is a Frobenius ring for all units $a,b \in R$. In particular, if $q$ is an odd prime power then $\mathcal{H}_{a,b}(\mathbb{F}_q)$ is the semisimple non-commutative matrix ring $M_2(\mathbb{F}_q)$. Consequently, a homogeneous weight that depends on the field size $q$ is obtained. On the other hand, the homogeneous weight of a finite Frobenius ring with a unique minimal ideal is derived in terms of the size of the ideal. This is illustrated by the quaternions over the Galois ring $GR(2^r,m…
Cyclic, negacyclic and constacyclic codes are part of a larger class of codes called polycyclic codes; namely, those codes which can be viewed as ideals of a factor ring of a polynomial ring. The structure of the ambient ring of polycyclic codes over GR(p^a,m) and generating sets for its ideals are considered. Along with some structure details of the ambient ring, the existance of a certain type of generating set for an ideal is proven.
In Picard-Vessiot theory, the Galois theory for linear differential equations, the Picard-Vessiot ring plays an important role, since it is the Picard-Vessiot ring which is a torsor (principal homogeneous space) for the Galois group (scheme). Like fields are simple rings having only (0) and (1) as ideals, the Picard-Vessiot ring is a differentially simple ring, i.e. a differential ring having only (0) and (1) as differential ideals. Having in mind that the classical Galois theory is a theory of extensions of fields, i.e. of simple rings, it is quite natural to ask whether one can also set up a…
Galois comodules of a coring are studied. The conditions for a simple comodule to be a Galois comodule are found. A special class of Galois comodules termed principal comodules is introduced. These are defined as Galois comodules that are projective over their comodule endomorphism rings. A complete description of principal comodules in the case a background ring is a field is found. In particular it is shown that a (finitely generated and projective) right comodule of an $A$-coring $\mathcal C$ is principal provided a lifting of the canonical map is a split epimorphism in the category of left…
Hopf-Galois extensions of rings generalize Galois extensions, with the coaction of a Hopf algebra replacing the action of a group. Galois extensions with respect to a group $G$ are the Hopf-Galois extensions with respect to the dual of the group algebra of $G$. Rognes recently defined an analogous notion of Hopf-Galois extensions in the category of structured ring spectra, motivated by the fundamental example of the unit map from the sphere spectrum to $MU$. This article introduces a theory of homotopic Hopf-Galois extensions in a monoidal category with compatible model category structure that…
To generalize the notion of Galois closure for separable field extensions, we devise a notion of $G$-closure for algebras of commutative rings $R\to A$, where $A$ is locally free of rank $n$ as an $R$-module and $G$ is a subgroup of $\mathrm{S}_n$. A $G$-closure datum for $A$ over $R$ is an $R$-algebra homomorphism $φ: (A^{\otimes n})^{G}\to R$ satisfying certain properties, and we associate to a closure datum $φ$ a closure algebra $A^{\otimes n}\otimes_{(A^{\otimes n})^G} R$. This construction reproduces the normal closure of a finite separable field extension if $G$ is the corresponding Galo…
Picard-Vessiot rings are present in many settings like differential Galois theory, difference Galois theory and Galois theory of Artinian simple module algebras. In this article we set up an abstract framework in which we can prove theorems on existence and uniqueness of Picard-Vessiot rings, as well as on Galois groups corresponding to the Picard-Vessiot rings. As the present approach restricts to the categorical properties which all the categories of differential modules resp. difference modules etc. share, it gives unified proofs for all these Galois theories (and maybe more general ones).
Let $D_{2n}=\langle x,y\mid x^n=1, y^2=1, yxy=x^{-1}\rangle$ be a dihedral group, and $R={\rm GR}(p^2,m)$ be a Galois ring of characteristic $p^2$ and cardinality $p^{2m}$ where $p$ is a prime. Left ideals of the group ring $R[D_{2n}]$ are called left dihedral codes over $R$ of length $2n$, and abbreviated as left $D_{2n}$-codes over $R$. Let ${\rm gcd}(n,p)=1$ in this paper. Then any left $D_{2n}$-code over $R$ is uniquely decomposed into a direct sum of concatenated codes with inner codes ${\cal A}_i$ and outer codes $C_i$, where ${\cal A}_i$ is a cyclic code over $R$ of length $n$ and $C_i$…
This article presents a theory of modules with iterative connection. This theory is a generalisation of the theory of modules with connection in characteristic zero to modules over rings of arbitrary characteristic. We show that these modules with iterative connection (and also the modules with integrable iterative connection) form a Tannakian category, assuming some nice properties for the underlying ring, and we show how this generalises to modules over schemes. We also relate these notions to stratifications on modules, as introduced by A. Grothendieck in order to extend integrable (ordinar…
A Galois correspondence theorem is proved for the case of inverse semigroups acting orthogonally on commutative rings as a consequence of the Galois correspondence theorem for groupoid actions. To this end, we use a classic result of inverse semigroup theory that establishes a one-to-one correspondence between inverse semigroups and inductive groupoids.
It was established before that fusion rings in a rational conformal field theory (RCFT) can be described as rings of polynomials, with integer coefficients, modulo some relations. We use the Galois group of these relations to obtain a local set of equation for the points of the fusion variety. These equations are sufficient to classify all the RCFT, Galois group by Galois group. It is shown that the Galois group is equivalent to the pseudo RCFT group. We prove that the Galois groups encountered in RCFT are all abelian, implying solvability by radicals of the modular matrix.
In this work, linearized multivariate skew polynomials over division rings are introduced. Such polynomials are right linear over the corresponding centralizer and generalize linearized polynomial rings over finite fields, group rings or differential polynomial rings. Their natural evaluation is connected to the remainder-based evaluation of free multivariate skew polynomials. It is shown that P-independent sets are those given by right linearly independent sets when partitioned into conjugacy classes. Hence finitely generated P-closed sets correspond to lists of finite-dimensional right vecto…
We define a bi-skew brace to be a set $G$ with two group operations $\star$ and $\circ$ so that $(G, \circ, \star)$ is a skew brace with additive group $(G, \star)$ and also with additive group $(G, \circ)$. If $G$ is a skew brace, then $G$ corresponds to a Hopf Galois structure of type $(G, \star)$ on any Galois extension of fields with Galois group isomorphic to $(G, \circ)$. If $G$ is a bi-skew brace, then $G$ also corresponds to a Hopf Galois structure of type $(G, \circ)$ on a Galois extension of fields with Galois group isomorphic to $(G, \star)$. Many non-trivial examples exist. One sou…
Galois images of polycyclic codes over a finite chain ring $S$ and their annihilator dual are investigated. The case when a polycyclic codes is Galois-disjoint over the ring $S,$ is characterized and, the trace codes and restrictions of free polycyclic codes over $S$ are also determined givind an analogue of Delsarte theorem among trace map, any S -linear code and its annihilator dual.
In this paper we introduce the notion of a partial action of a groupoid on a ring as well as we give a criteria for the existence of a globalization of it. We construct a Morita context associated to a globalizable partial groupoid action and we introduce the notion of a partial Galois extension, which is related to the strictness of this context.
Additive cyclic codes over Galois rings were investigated in previous works. In this paper, we investigate the same problem but over a more general ring family, finite commutative chain rings. When we focus on non-Galois finite commutative chain rings, we observe two different kinds of additivity. One of them is a natural generalization of the previous studies, whereas the other one has some unusual properties especially while constructing dual codes. We interpret the reasons of such properties and illustrate our results giving concrete examples.
In this paper we consider categories over a commutative ring provided either with a free action or with a grading of a not necessarily finite group. We define the smash product category and the skew category and we show that these constructions agree with the usual ones for algebras. In case of the smash product for an infinite group our construction specialized for a ring agrees with M. Beattie's construction of a ring with local units in \cite{be}. We recover in a categorical generalized setting the Duality Theorems of M. Cohen and S. Montgomery in \cite{cm}, and we provide a unification wit…
