We introduce a symplectic structure on the space of connections in a G-principal bundle over a four-manifold and the Hamiltonian action on it of the group of gauge transformations which are trivial on the boundary. The symplectic reduction becomes the moduli space of flat connections over the manifold. On the moduli space of flat connections we shall construct a hermitian line bundle with connection whose curvature is given by the symplectic form. This is the Chern-Simons prequantum line bundle. The group of gauge transformations on the boundary of the base manifold acts on the moduli space of flat connections by an infinitesimally symplectic way. This action is lifted to the prequantum line bundle by its abelian extension.
We show the existence of a symplectic structure on the moduli space of the Seiberg-Witten equations on $Σ\times Σ$ where $Σ$ is a compact oriented Riemann surface. To prequantize the moduli space, we construct a Quillen-type determinant line bundle on it and show its curvature is proportional to the symplectic form.
The moduli space of solutions to the vortex equations on a Riemann surface are well known to have a symplectic (in fact Kähler) structure. We show this symplectic structure explictly and proceed to show a family of symplectic (in fact, Kähler) structures $Ω_{Ψ_0}$ on the moduli space, parametrised by $Ψ_0$, a section of a line bundle on the Riemann surface. Next we show that corresponding to these there is a family of prequantum line bundles ${\mathcal P}_{Ψ_0} $on the moduli space whose curvature is proportional to the symplectic forms $Ω_{Ψ_0}$.
In this paper we prequantize the moduli space of non-abelian vortices. We explicitly calculate the symplectic form arising from the $L^2$ metric and we construct a prequantum line bundle whose curvature is proportional to this symplectic form. The prequantum line bundle turns out to be Quillen's determinant line bundle with a modified Quillen metric. Next, as in the case of abelian vortices, we construct Quillen line bundles over the moduli space whose curvatures form a family of symplectic forms which are parametrised by $Ψ_0$, a section of a certain bundle.
We describe the topology of the moduli spaces of flat metrics for all the 3-dimensional closed manifolds. We give an algebraic description of the moduli spaces for the 4-dimensional closed flat manifolds with a single generator in their holonomy and, in some cases, also study their topology.
We show that the moduli space of Ricci flat metrics of unit volume (including orbifold metrics) on a K3 surface is simply connected and that it has the same rational cohomology as the automorphism group of the K3 lattice $(-E_8)^{\oplus 2}\oplus U^{\oplus 3}$.
In this paper, we consider new components of the key space of the Moduli space of minimal surfaces in flat 4-tori and calculate their dimensions. Moreover, we construct an example of minimal surfaces in 4-tori and obtain an element of the Moduli. In the process of the construction, we give an example of minimal surfaces with good property in a 3-torus distinct from classical examples.
In this paper, we explain how generalized dynamical r-matrices can be obtained by (quasi-)Poisson reduction. New examples of Poisson structures and Poisson groupoid actions naturally appear in this setting. As an application, we use a generalized dynamical r-matrix induced by the gauge fixing procedure to give a new finite dimensional description of the Atiyah-Bott symplectic structure on the moduli space of flat connections on a surface.
To each flat conformal structure (FCS) of hyperbolic type in the sense of Kulkarni-Pinkall, we associate, for all $θ\in[(n-1)π/2,nπ/2[$ and for all $r>\opTan(θ/n)$ a unique immersed hypersurface $Σ_{r,θ}=(M,i_{r,θ})$ in $\Bbb{H}^{n+1}$ of constant $θ$-special Lagrangian curvature equal to $r$. We show that these hypersurfaces smoothly approximate the boundary of the canonical hyperbolic end associated to the FCS by Kulkarni and Pinkall and thus obtain results concerning the continuous dependance of the hyperbolic end and of the Kulkarni-Pinkall metric on the flat conformal structure.
We study the natural structure on the moduli space of deformations of compact coassociative submanifolds. We show that a G2-manifold with a T^4-action of isomorphisms such that the orbits are coassociative tori is locally equivalent to a minimal 3-manifold in R^{3,3} = H^2(T^4,R) with positive induced metric. By studying minimal surfaces in quadrics we show how to construct minimal 3-manifold cones in R^{3,3} and hence G2-metrics from equations similar to a set of affine Toda equations. The relation to semi-flat special Lagrangian fibrations and the Monge-Ampère equation are explained.

We use gauge theoretic and algebraic methods to examine sufficient conditions for smooth points on the moduli space of flat connections on a compact manifold and on the character variety of a finitely generated and presented group. We give a complete proof of the slice theorem for the action of the group of gauge transformations on the space of flat connections. Consequently, the slice is smooth if the second cohomology of the manifold with coefficients in the semisimple part of the adjoint bundle vanishes. Let G be one of the Ricci-flat holonomy groups SU(n), Sp(n), Spin(7) or G_2, and M a compact manifold of dimension 2n, 4n, 8 or 7, respectively. We prove that the natural map from the moduli space of torsion-free G-structures on M to the moduli space of Ricci-flat metrics is open, and that the image is a smooth manifold. For the exceptional cases G = Spin(7) and G_2 we extend the result to asymptotically cylindrical manifolds.

We shall prove that a moduli space of flat irreducible Lie algebroid connections over a compact manifold has locally a natural structure of a smooth differentiable space. This is a generalization of some well known results for the moduli space of holomorphic structures on a complex vector bundle over a compact complex manifold.
In this paper, we are interested in flat metric structures with conical singularities on surfaces which are obtained by deforming translation surface structures. The moduli space of such flat metric structures can be viewed as some deformation of the moduli space of translation surfaces. Using geodesic triangulations, we define a volume form on this moduli space, and show that, in the well-known cases, this volume form agrees with usual ones, up to a multiplicative constant.

By a result of W.~P. Thurston, the moduli space of flat metrics on the sphere with $n$ cone singularities of prescribed positive curvatures is a complex hyperbolic orbifold of dimension $n-3$. In this paper, we focus on the moduli space of Seiberg-Witten equation on non-compact manifold with periodic end. Suppose that the scalar curvature on the periodic end is identically zero and the topological conditions: the first de-Rham cohomology and the self-dual cohomology restricting on the periodic end vanish. Then, we will show that the moduli space of the perturbed Seiberg-Witten equation is compact.
In this article, we give a survey of our construction of a local moduli space of scalar-flat Kähler ALE metrics in complex dimension $2$. We also prove an explicit formula for the dimension of this moduli space on a scalar-flat Kähler ALE surface which deforms to the minimal resolution of $\mathbb{C}^2/Γ$, where $Γ$ is a finite subgroup of ${\rm{U}}(2)$ without complex reflections, in terms of the embedding dimension of the singularity.
Flat surfaces with erasing forest are obtained by deforming the flat metric structure of translation surfaces, the moduli space of such surfaces is a deformation of the moduli space of translation surfaces. We consider the moduli space of flat $SO(2n+1)$-connections (up to gauge transformations) on a Riemann surface, with fixed holonomy around a marked point. There are natural line bundles over this moduli space; we construct geometric representatives for the Chern classes of these line bundles, and prove that the ring generated by these Chern classes vanishes below the dimension of the moduli space, generalising a conjecture of Newstead.
It is known that every nonorientable surface $Σ$ has an orientable double cover $\tildeΣ$. The covering map induces an involution on the moduli space $\tilde{\M}$ of gauge equivalence classes of flat $G$-connections on $\tildeΣ$. We identify the relation between the moduli space $\M$ and the fixed point set of the moduli space $\tilde{\M}$. In particular, $\M$ is isomorphic to the fixed point set of $\tilde{\M}$ if and only if the order of the center of $G$ is odd. One important application is that we give a way to construct a minimal Lagrangian submanifold of the moduli space $\tilde{\M}$.
If we consider the moduli space of flat connections of a non trivial principal SO(3)-bundle over a surface, then we can define a map from the set of perturbed closed geodesics, below a given energy level, into families of perturbed Yang-Mills connections depending on a small parameter. In this paper we show that this map is a bijection and maps perturbed geodesics into perturbed Yang-Mills connections with the same Morse index.
We analyze the moduli space of non-flat homogeneous affine connections on surfaces. For Type $\mathcal{A}$ surfaces, we write down complete sets of invariants that determine the local isomorphism type depending on the rank of the Ricci tensor and examine the structure of the associated moduli space. For Type $\mathcal{B}$ surfaces which are not Type $\mathcal{A}$ we show the corresponding moduli space is a simply connected real analytic 4-dimensional manifold with second Betti number equal to $1$.
In this short note, we compute the Betti numbers of the moduli stack of flat SU(3)-bundles over a Klein bottle. We also handle the general compact group case over RP^2. In all cases the cohomology is found to be equivariantly formal, supporting a conjecture from the author's doctoral thesis. Our results also verify conjectural formulas obtained by Ho-Liu using Yang-Mills Morse theory.
It is known that there is a bijection between the perturbed closed geodesics, below a given energy level, on the moduli space of flat connections M and families of perturbed Yang-Mills connections depending on a small parameter. In this paper we study the heat flow on the loop space on M and the Yang-Mills L^2-flows for a 3-manifold N with partial rescaled metrics. Our main result is that the bounded Morse homology of the loop space on M is isomorphic to the bounded Morse homologies of the connections space of N.
The Corlette-Donaldson-Hitchin-Simpson's correspondence states that, on a compact Kähler manifold $(X, ω)$, there is a one-to-one correspondence between the moduli space of semisimple flat complex vector bundles and the moduli space of poly-stable Higgs bundles with vanishing Chern numbers. In this paper, we extend this correspondence to the projectively flat bundles case. We establish normal form theorems for a large class of singular flat connections on complex manifolds, including connections with logarithmic poles along weighted homogeneous Saito free divisors. As a result, we show that the moduli spaces of such connections admit the structure of algebraic quotient stacks. In order to prove these results, we introduce homogeneous Lie groupoids and study their representation theory. We consider canonical symplectic structure on the moduli space of flat ${\g}$-connections on a Riemann surface of genus $g$ with $n$ marked points. For ${\g}$ being a semisimple Lie algebra we obtain an explicit efficient formula for this symplectic form and prove that it may be represented as a sum of $n$ copies of Kirillov symplectic form on the orbit of dressing transformations in the Poisson-Lie group $G^{*}$ and $g$ copies of the symplectic structure on the Heisenberg double of the Poisson-Lie group $G$ (the pair ($G,G^{*}$) corresponds to the Lie algebra ${\g}$).
We compute the Riemannian volume on the moduli space of flat connections on a nonorientable 2-manifold, for a natural class of metrics. We also show that Witten's volume formula for these moduli spaces may be derived using Haar measure, and we give a new proof of Witten's volume formula for the moduli space of flat connections on an orientable surface using Haar measure.

We consider the moduli space MN of flat unitary connections on an open Kaehler manifold U (complement of a divisor with normal crossings) with restrictions on their monodromy transformations. Using intersection and L2 cohomologies with degenerating coefficients we construct a natural symplectic form F on MN. When U is quasi-projective we prove that F is actually a Kaehler form.
The notion of flat $λ$-connections as the interpolation of usual flat connections and Higgs fields was suggested by Deligne and further studied by Simpson. Mochizuki established the Kobayashi--Hitchin-type theorem for $λ$-flat bundles ($λ\neq 0$), which is called the Mochizuki correspondence. In this paper, on the one hand, we generalize Mochizuki's result to the case when the base being a compact balanced manifold, more precisely, we prove the existence of harmonic metrics on stable $λ$-flat bundles ($λ\neq 0$). We show that the prequantum line bundle on the moduli space of flat $SU(2)$ connections on a closed Riemann surface of positive genus has degree 1. It then follows from work of Lawton and the second author that the classifying map for this line bundle induces a homotopy equivalence between the stable moduli space of flat $SU(N)$ connections, in the limit as $N$ tends to infinity, and $\mathbb{C}P^\infty$. Applications to the stable moduli space of flat unitary connections are also discussed.
We study the shortest geodesics on flat cone spheres, i.e. flat metrics on the sphere with conical singularities. The length of the shortest geodesic between two singular points can be treated as a function on the moduli space of flat cone spheres with prescribed angle defects. We prove a recurrent relation on the distribution of this function with respect to Thurston's volume form on the moduli space.
If $K$ is a compact Lie group and $g\geq 2$ an integer, the space $K^{2g}$ is endowed with the structure of a Hamiltonian space with a Lie group valued moment map $Φ$. In this paper we study the symplectic and Poisson geometry of moduli spaces of flat connections over quilted surfaces. These are surfaces where the structure group varies from region to region in the surface, and where a reduction (or relation) of structure occurs along the boundaries of the regions. Our main theoretical tool is a new form moment-map reduction in the context of Dirac geometry. This reduction framework allows us to use very general relations of structure groups, and to investigate both the symplectic and Poisson geometry of the resulting moduli spaces from a unified perspective…
We compute the homotopy type of the moduli space of flat, unitary connections over aspherical surfaces, after stabilizing with respect to the rank of the underlying bundle. Over the orientable surface M^g, we show that this space has the homotopy type of the infinite symmetric product of M^g, generalizing a well-known fact for the torus. Over a non-orientable surface, we show that this space is homotopy equivalent to a disjoint union of two tori, whose common dimension corresponds to the rank of the first (co)homology group of the surface. We extend Teichmueller dynamics to a flow on the total space of a flat bundle of deformation spaces of representations of the fundamental group of a fixed surface S in a Lie group G. The resulting dynamical system is a continuous version of the action of the mapping class group of S on the deformation space. We observe how ergodic properties of this action relate to this flow. When G is compact, this flow is strongly mixing over each component of the derormation space and of each stratum of the Teichmueller unit sphere bundle over the Riemann moduli space. We consider analytic curves $\nabla^t$ of symplectic connections of Ricci type on the torus $T^{2n}$ with $\nabla^0$ the standard connection. We show, by a recursion argument, that if $\nabla^t$ is a formal curve of such connections then there exists a formal curve of symplectomorphisms $ψ_t$ such that $ψ_t\cdot\nabla^t$ is a formal curve of flat invariant symplectic connections and so $\nabla^t$ is flat for all $t$. We prove that one can obtain natural bundles of Lie algebras on rank two s-Kähler manifolds, whose fibres are isomorphic to so(s+1,s+1), su(s+1,s+1) and sl(2s + 2,\R). In the most rigid case (which includes complex tori and abelian varieties) these bundles have natural flat connections, whose flat global sections act naturally on cohomology. We also present several natural examples of manifolds which can be equipped with an s-Kähler structure with various levels of rigidity: complex tori and abelian varieties, cotangent bundles of smooth manifolds and moduli of pointed elliptic curves.
We derive expressions for the Ricci curvature tensor and scalar in terms of intrinsic torsion classes of half-flat manifolds by exploiting the relationship between half-flat manifolds and non-compact $G_2$ holonomy manifolds. Our expressions are tested for Iwasawa and more general nilpotent manifolds. We also derive expressions, in the language of Calabi-Yau moduli spaces, for the torsion classes and the Ricci curvature of the \emph{particular} half-flat manifolds that arise naturally via mirror symmetry in flux compactifications.
