In this paper it is investigated how to find a matrix representation of operators on a Hilbert space with Bessel sequences, frames and Riesz bases. In many applications these sequences are often preferable to orthonormal bases (ONBs). Therefore it is useful to extend the known method of matrix representation by using these sequences instead of ONBs for these application areas. We will give basic definitions of the functions connecting infinite matrices defining bounded operators on l2 and operators on the Hilbert space. We will show some structural results and give some examples. Furthermore in the case of Riesz bases we prove that those functions are isomorphisms. Finally we are going to apply this idea to the connection of Hilbert-Schmidt operators and Frobenius matrices.

Matrix valued asymmetric truncated Toeplitz operator are compression of multiplication operators acting between two model spaces. These are the generalization of matrix valued truncated Toeplitz operators. In this paper we use generalized Crofoot transform to characterize symbol of matrix valued asymmetric truncated Toeplitz operator equal to zero operator.
We initiate the study of matrix convexity for operator spaces. We define the notion of compact rectangular matrix convex set, and prove the natural analogs of the Krein-Milman and the bipolar theorems in this context. We deduce a canonical correspondence between compact rectangular matrix convex sets and operator spaces. We also introduce the notion of boundary representation for an operator space, and prove the natural analog of Arveson's conjecture: every operator space is completely normed by its boundary representations. This yields a canonical construction of the triple envelope of an ope…
The relationship between the operator approximation property and the strong operator approximation property has deep significance in the theory of operator algebras. The original definitions of Effros and Ruan, unlike the classical analogues, make no mention of compact operators or compact sets. In this paper we introduce ``compact matrix sets'' which correspond to the two different operator approximation properties, and show that a space has the operator approximation property if and only if the ``operator compact'' operators are contained in the closure of the finite rank operators. We also …
We systematically study how properties of abstract operator systems help classifying linear matrix inequality definitions of sets. Our main focus is on polyhedral cones, the 3-dimensional Lorentz cone, where we can completely describe all defining linear matrix inequalities, and on the cone of positive semidefinite matrices. Here we use results on isometries between matrix algebras to describe linear matrix inequality definitions of relatively small size. We conversely use the theory of operator systems to characterize special such isometries.
This paper studies matrix-valued truncated Toeplitz operators, which are a vectorial generalisation of truncated Toeplitz operators. It is demonstrated that, although there exist matrix-valued truncated Toeplitz operators without a matrix symbol in $L^p$ for any $p \in (2, \infty ]$, there is a wide class of matrix-valued truncated Toeplitz operators which possess a matrix symbol in $L^p$ for some $p \in (2, \infty ]$. In the case when the matrix-valued truncated Toeplitz operator has a symbol in $L^p$ for some $p \in (2, \infty ]$, an approach is developed which bypasses some of the technical…
In this paper, we study the change of spectrum and the existence of Riesz bases of specific classes of $n\times n$ unbounded operator matrices, called: diagonally and off-diagonally generalized subordinate block operator matrices. An application to a $n\times n$ Gribov operator matrix acting on a sum of Bargmann spaces, illustrates the abstract results. As example, we consider a particular Gribov operator matrix by taking special values of the real parameters of Pomeron.
Matrix valued truncated Toeplitz operators act on vector-valued model spaces. They represent a generalization of block Toeplitz matrices. A characterization of these operators analogue to the scalar case is obtained, as well as the determination of the symbols that produce the zero operator.
In this paper, we considered the problem of finding the upper bound Hausdorff matrix operator from sequence spaces $l_p(v)$ (or $d(v,p)$) into $l_p(w)$ (or $d(w,p)$). Also we considered the upper bound problem for matrix operators from $d(v,1)$ into $d(w,1)$, and matrix operators from $e(w,\infty)$ into $e(v,\infty)$, and deduce upper bound for Cesaro, Copson and Hilbert matrix operators, which are recently considered in \cite{5} and \cite{6} and similar to that in \cite{10}.
In this paper, we study the matrix multiplication operators on Banach function spaces and discuss their applications in semigroups for solving the abstract Cauchy problem.
The paper deals with unbounded composition operators with infinite matrix symbols acting in $L^2$-spaces with respect to the gaussian measure on $\mathbb{R}^\infty$. We introduce weak cohyponormality classes $\EuScript{S}_{n,r}^*$ of unbounded operators and provide criteria for the aforementioned composition operators to belong to $\EuScript{S}_{n,r}^*$. Our approach is based on inductive limits of operators.
The research on spectral inequalities for discrete Schrodinger Operators has proved fruitful in the last decade. Indeed, several authors analysed the operator's canonical relation to a tridiagonal Jacobi matrix operator. In this paper, we consider a generalisation of this relation with regards to connecting higher order Schrodinger-type operators with symmetric matrix operators with arbitrarily many non-zero diagonals above and below the main diagonal. We thus obtain spectral bounds for such matrices, similar in nature to the Lieb{Thirring inequalities.
In this paper we present equivalence results for several types of unbounded operator functions. A generalization of the concept equivalence after extension is introduced and used to prove equivalence and linearization for classes of unbounded operator functions. Further, we deduce methods of finding equivalences to operator matrix functions that utilizes equivalences of the entries. Finally, a method of finding equivalences and linearizations to a general case of operator matrix polynomials is presented.
We study the question when for a given *-algebra $\mathcal{A}$ a sequence of cones $C_n\in M_n(\mathcal{A})$ can be realized as cones of positive operators in a faithful *-representation of $\mathcal{A}$ on a Hilbert space. A characterization of operator algebras which are completely boundedly isomorphic to $C\sp*$-algebras is presented.
In this paper we study the truncated matrix trigonometric moment problem. We obtained a bijective parameterization of all solutions of this moment problem (both in nondegenerate and degenerate cases) via an operator approach. We use important results of M.E.~Chumakin on generalized resolvents of isometric operators.
Boundedness for a class of projection operators, which includes the coordinate projections, on matrix weighted $L^p$-spaces is completely characterised in terms of simple scalar conditions. Using the projection result, sufficient conditions, which are straightforward to verify, are obtained that ensure that a given matrix weight is contained in the Muckenhoupt matrix $A_p$ class. Applications to singular integral operators with product kernels are considered.
We present a treasure trove of open problems in matrix and operator inequalities, of a functional analytic nature, and with various degrees of hardness.
In this paper, we apply the Hausdorff measure of noncompactness to obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions for certain matrix operators on the Fibonacci difference sequence spaces l_{p}(F) and l_{infinite}(F) to be compact, where 1<=p<infinite.
In this work a possibility of a decomposition of a bounded operator which acts in a Hilbert space $H$ as a product of a J-unitary and a J-self-adjoint operators is studied, $J$ is a conjugation (an antilinear involution). Decompositions of J-unitary and unitary operators which are analogous to decompositions in the finite-dimensional case are obtained. A possibility of a matrix representation for J-symmetric, J-skew-symmetric operators is studied. Also, some simple properties of J-symmetric, J-antisymmetric, J-isometric operators are obtained, a structure of a null set for a J-form is studied.
The convex body maximal operator is a natural generalisation of the Hardy Littlewood maximal operator. In the presence of a matrix weight it is not bounded.
We give sufficient conditions on a matrix A ensuring the existence of a partition of this matrix into two submatrices with extremely small norm of the image of any vector. Under some weak conditions on a matrix A we obtain a partition of A with the extremely small $(1,q)$-norm of submatrices.
Conditions are established under which Fredholmness, Coburn's property and one- or two-sided invertibility are shared by a Toeplitz operator with matrix symbol $G$ and the Toeplitz operator with scalar symbol $\det G$. These results are based on one-sided invertibility criteria for rectangular matrices over appropriate commutative rings and related scalar corona type problems.
In this paper, we establish the asymptotic estimates for the norms of the matrix dilation operators on modulation spaces. As an application, we study the boundedness on modulation spaces of Hausdorff operators. The definition of Hausdorff operators are also revisited for fitting our study.
A weighted mean matrix whose weight sequence is linear with positive coefficients is shown to be a posinormal operator on $\ell^2$. This operator is also shown to be coposinormal, so it and its adjoint have the same null space and the same range. The posinormality result leads to a proof that the weighted mean matrix associated with the sequence of odd positive integers is hyponormal, as well as a conjecture regarding a more general linear case.
We study the operator $\mathcal{A}$ of multiplication by an independent variable in a matrix Sobolev space $W^2(M)$. In the cases of finite measures on $[a,b]$ with $(2\times 2)$ and $(3\times 3)$ real continuous matrix weights of full rank it is shown that the operator $\mathcal{A}$ is symmetrizable. Namely, there exist two symmetric operators $\mathcal{B}$ and $\mathcal{C}$ in a larger space such that $\mathcal{A} f = \mathcal{C} \mathcal{B}^{-1} f$, $f\in D(\mathcal{A})$. As a corollary, we obtain some new orthogonality conditions for the associated Sobolev orthogonal polynomials. These con…
This paper concerns the analysis of an unbounded Toeplitz-like operator generated by a rational matrix function having poles on the unit circle T. It extends the analysis of such operators generated by scalar rational functions with poles on T found in [11,12,13]. A Wiener-Hopf type factorization of rational matrix functions with poles and zeroes on T is proved and then used to analyze the Fredholm properties of such Toeplitz-like operators. A formula for the index, based on the factorization, is given. Furthermore, it is shown that the determinant of the matrix function having no zeroes on T …
For finite-dimensional operator systems $\mathcal{S}_{\mathsf T}$, ${\mathsf T} \in B({\mathcal H})^d$, we show that the local lifting property and $1$-exactness of $\mathcal{S}_{\mathsf T}$ may be characterized by measurements of the disparity between the matrix range $\mathcal{W}({\mathsf T})$ and the minimal/maximal matrix convex sets over its individual levels. We then examine these concepts from the point of view of free spectrahedra, direct sums of operator systems, and products of matrix convex sets.
The paper deals with singular Sturm-Liouville expressions with matrix-valued distributional coefficients. Due to a suitable regularization, the corresponding operators are correctly defined as quasi-differentials. Their resolvent convergence is investigated and all self-adjoint, maximal dissipative, and maximal accumulative extensions are described in terms of homogeneous boundary conditions of the canonical form.
G\v avruta studied atomic systems in terms of frames for range of operators (that is, for subspaces), namely $K$-frames, where the lower frame condition is controlled by the Hilbert-adjoint of a bounded linear operator $K$. For a locally compact abelian group G and a positive integer $n$, we study frames of matrix-valued Gabor systems in the matrix-valued Lebesgue space $L^2(G, \mathbb{C}^{n\times n})$ , where a bounded linear operator $Θ$ on $L^2(G, \mathbb{C}^{n\times n})$ controls not only lower but also the upper frame condition. We term such frames matrix-valued $(Θ, Θ^*)$-Gabor frames. F…
The aim of this paper is to show some examples of matrix-valued orthogonal functions on the real line which are simultaneously eigenfunctions of a second-order differential operator of Schrödinger type and an integral operator of Fourier type. As a consequence we derive integral representations of these functions as well as other useful structural formulas. Some of these functions are plotted to show the relationship with the Hermite or wave functions.
The class of three-diagonal Jacobi matrix with exponentially increasing elements is considered. Under some assumptions the matrix corresponds to unbounded self-adjoint operator in the weighted space. The weight depends on elements of the matrix and in some cases can arise indefinite metric. We proved that eigenvalue problem for this operator is equivalent to the eigenvalue problem of Sturm--Liouville operator with discrete self-similar weight. The asymptotic formulas for eigenvalues are obtained. These formulas differ for cases of definite and indefinite metrics.
We analyze matrix-valued transfer operators. We prove that the fixed points of transfer operators form a finite dimensional $C^*$-algebra. For matrix weights satisfying a low-pass condition we identify the minimal projections in this algebra as correlations of scaling functions, i.e., limits of cascade algortihms.
We construct operators which factorize the transfer function associated with a non-self-adjoint 2x2 operator matrix whose diagonal entries can have overlapping spectra and whose off-diagonal entries are unbounded operators.
In this paper, we study matrix representations of truncated Toeplitz operators with respect to orthonormal bases which are invariant under a canonical conjugation map. In particular, we determine necessary and sufficient conditions for when a 3-by-3 symmetric matrix is the matrix representation of a truncated Toeplitz operator with respect to a given conjugation invariant orthonormal basis. We specialise our result to the case when the conjugation invariant orthonormal basis is a modified Clark basis. As a corollary to this specialisation, we answer a previously stated open conjecture in the n…
We consider the direct and inverse spectral problems for Dirac operators on $(0,1)$ with matrix-valued potentials whose entries belong to $L_p(0,1)$, $p\in[1,\infty)$. We give a complete description of the spectral data (eigenvalues and suitably introduced norming matrices) for the operators under consideration and suggest a method for reconstructing the potential from the corresponding spectral data.
Motivated by the multivariate wavelet theory, and by the spectral theory of transfer operators, we construct an abstract affine structure and a multiresolution associated to a matrix-valued weight. We describe the one-to-one correspondence between the commutant of this structure and the fixed points of the transfer operator. We show how the covariant representation can be realized on $\mathbb{R}^n$ if the weight satisfies some low-pass condition.
We study finitely cyclic self-adjoint operators in a Hilbert space, i.e. self-adjoint operators that posses such a finite subset in the domain that the orbits of all its elements with respect to the operator are linearly dense in the space. One of the main goals here is to obtain the representation theorem for such operators in a form analogous to the one well-known in the cyclic self-adjoint operators case. To do this, we present here a detailed introduction to matrix measures, to the matrix measure $L^2$ spaces, and to the multiplication by scalar functions operators in such spaces. This all…
We consider a certain class of Herglotz-Nevanlinna matrix-valued functions which can be realized as the Weyl-Titchmarsh matrix-valued function of some symmetric operator and its self-adjoint extension. New properties of Weyl -Titchmarsh matrix-valued functions as well as a new version of the functional model in such realizations are presented. In the case of periodic Herglotz-Nevanlinna matrix-valued functions we provide a complete characterization of their realizations in terms of the corresponding functional model. We also obtain properties of a symmetric operator and its self-adjoint extens…
Truncated Toeplitz operators and their asymmetric versions are studied in the context of the Hardy space $H^p$ of the half-plane for $1<p<\infty$. It is shown that they are equivalent after extension to $2 \times 2$ matricial Toeplitz operators, which allows one to deduce information about their invertibility properties. Shifted model spaces are presented in the context of invariant subspaces, allowing one to deduce new Beurling--Lax theorems.
For the periodic matrix-valued Jacobi operator $J$ we obtain the estimate of the Lebesgue measure of the spectrum $|\s(J)|\le4 \min_n\Tr(a_na_n^*)^\frac12$, where $a_n$ are off-diagonal elements of $J$. Moreover estimates of width of spectral bands are obtained.
We present a spectral analysis for matrix scaling and operator scaling. We prove that if the input matrix or operator has a spectral gap, then a natural gradient flow has linear convergence. This implies that a simple gradient descent algorithm also has linear convergence under the same assumption. The spectral gap condition for operator scaling is closely related to the notion of quantum expander studied in quantum information theory. The spectral analysis also provides bounds on some important quantities of the scaling problems, such as the condition number of the scaling solution and the ca…
In previous work the author found solutions to the Toda equations that were expressed in terms of determinants of integral operators. Here it is observed that a simple variant yields solutions to the matrix Toda equations. As an application another derivation is given of a differential equation of Sato, Miwa and Jimbo for a particular Fredholm determinant.
