In math.QA/0506507 I. Gelfand and the authors introduced and studied a new class of algebras associated to directed graphs. In this paper we show that these algebras are Koszul for a large class of layered (i.e. ranked) graphs.
We give a new proof of the quantum version of MacMahon's Master Theorem due to Garoufalidis, Le and Zeilberger (one-parameter case) and to Konvalinka and Pak (multiparameter case) by deriving it from known facts about Koszul algebras.
The algebras $A(Γ)$, where $Γ$ is a directed layered graph, were first constructed by I. Gelfand, S. Serconek, V. Retakh and R. Wilson. These algebras are generalizations of the algebras $Q_n$, which are related to factorizations of non-commutative polynomials. It was conjectured that these algebras were Koszul. In 2008, T.Cassidy and B.Shelton found a counterexample to this claim, a non-Koszul $A(Γ)$ corresponding to a graph $Γ$ with 18 edges and 11 vertices. We produce an example of a directed layered graph $Γ$ with 13 edges and 9 vertices which produces a non-Koszul $A(Γ)$. We also show thi…
From symplectic reflection algebras, some algebras are naturally introduced. We show that these algebras are non-homogeneous N-Koszul algebras, through a PBW theorem.
The algebras $Q_n$ describe the relationship between the roots and coefficients of a non-commutative polynomial. I.Gelfand, S.Gelfand, and V. Retakh have defined quotients of these algebras corresponding to graphs. In this work we find the Hilbert series of the class of algebras corresponding to the graph $K_3$. We also show this algebra is Koszul using the lattice definition.
The algebras $Q_n$ describe the relationship between the roots and coefficients of a non-commutative polynomial. I.Gelfand, S.Gelfand, and V. Retakh have defined quotients of these algebras corresponding to graphs. In this work we find the Hilbert series of the class of algebras corresponding to the $n$-vertex path, $P_n$. We also show this algebra is Koszul. We do this by first looking at class of quadratic algebras we call Partially Generator Commuting. We then find a sufficient condition for a PGC-Algebra to be Koszul and use this to show a similar class of PGC algebras, which we call ch$P_…
We introduce a notion of Koszul A-infinity algebra that generalizes Priddy's notion of a Koszul algebra and we use it to construct small A-infinity algebra models for Hochschild cochains. As an application, this yields new techniques for computing free loop space homology algebras of manifolds that are either formal or coformal (over a field or over the integers). We illustrate these techniques in two examples.
Quadratic algebras associated to pseudo-roots of noncommutative polynomials have been introduced by I. Gelfand, Retakh, and Wilson in connection with studying the decompositions of noncommutative polynomials. Later they (with S. Gelfand and Serconek) shown that the Hilbert series of these algebras and their quadratic duals satisfy the necessary condition for Koszulity. It is proved in this note that these algebras are Koszul.
Quadratic algebras associated to graphs have been introduced by I. Gelfand, S. Gelfand, and Retakh in connection with decompositions of noncommutative polynomials. Here we show that, for each graph with rare triangular subgraphs, the corresponding quadratic algebra is a Koszul domain with global dimension equal to the number of vertices of the graph.
We define generalized Koszul modules and rings and develop a generalized Koszul theory for $\mathbb{N}$-graded rings with the degree zero part noetherian semiperfect. This theory specializes to the classical Koszul theory for graded rings with degree zero part artinian semisimple developed by Beilinson-Ginzburg-Soergel and the ungraded Koszul theory for noetherian semiperfect rings developed by Green and Martin{é}z-Villa. Let $A$ be a left finite $\mathbb{N}$-graded ring generated in degree $1$ with $A_0$ noetherian semiperfect, $J$ be its graded Jacobson radical and $S=A/J$. By the Koszul dua…
Koszul property was generalized to homogeneous algebras of degree N>2 in [5], and related to N-complexes in [7]. We show that if the N-homogeneous algebra A is generalized Koszul, AS-Gorenstein and of finite global dimension, then one can apply the Van den Bergh duality theorem [23] to A, i.e., there is a Poincare duality between Hochschild homology and cohomology of A, as for N=2.
Let $A$ be a Koszul (or more generally, $N$-Koszul) Calabi-Yau algebra. Inspired by the works of Kontsevich, Ginzburg and Van den Bergh, we show that there is a derived non-commutative Poisson structure on $A$, which induces a graded Lie algebra structure on the cyclic homology of $A$; moreover, we show that the Hochschild homology of $A$ is a Lie module over the cyclic homology and the Connes long exact sequence is in fact a sequence of Lie modules. Finally, we show that the Leibniz-Loday bracket associated to the derived non-commutative Poisson structure on $A$ is naturally mapped to the Ger…
We discuss the consequences of the Poincaré duality, versus AS- Gorenstein property, for Koszul algebras (homogeneous and non homogeneous). For homogeneous Koszul algebras, the Poincaré duality property implies the existence of twisted potentials which characterize the corresponding algebras while in the case of quadratic linear Koszul algebras, the Poincaré duality is needed to get a good generalization of universal enveloping algebras of Lie algebras. In the latter case we describe and discuss the corresponding generalization of Lie algebras. We also give a short review of the notion of Kosz…
In this paper we discuss a generalization of the classica PBW-theorem to the case of Koszul algebras. Our result is a slight generalization of that obtained by A.Polischuk and L.Positselsky, but the proof is different and uses deformation theory.
Let H be a Hopf algebra and let B be a Koszul H-module algebra. We provide necessary and sufficient conditions for a filtered algebra to be a Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt (PBW) deformation of the smash product algebra B#H. Many examples of these deformations are given.
We discuss the notion of Poincaré duality for graded algebras and its connections with the Koszul duality for quadratic Koszul algebras. The relevance of the Poincaré duality is pointed out for the existence of twisted potentials associated to Koszul algebras as well as for the extraction of a good generalization of Lie algebras among the quadratic-linear algebras.
Generalising Jacob Lurie's idea on the relation between the Verdier duality and the iterated loop space theory, we study the Koszul duality for locally constant factorisation algebras. We formulate an analogue of Lurie's "nonabelian Poincare duality" theorem (which is closely related to earlier results of Graeme Segal, of Dusa McDuff, and of Paolo Salvatore) in a symmetric monoidal stable infinity category carefully, using John Francis' notion of excision. Its proof depends on our earlier study of the Koszul duality for E_n-algebras. As a consequence, we obtain a Verdier type equivalence for f…
We study the curved Koszul duality theory for associative algebras presented by quadratic-linear-constant (QLC) relations. As an application, we investigate the cyclic (co)homology of a QLC algebra and its Koszul dual curved DG algebra, and extend a result due to Feigin and Tsygan. We also study a commutative/Lie analog of this curved Koszul duality theory.
Koszul and homogeneous Koszul algebras were defined by Priddy in \cite{Priddy1970}. There exist some relations between these algebras and the skew PBW extensions introduced in \cite{LezamaGallego}. In this paper we give conditions to guarantee that skew PBW extensions over fields are Koszul or homogeneous Koszul. We also show that a constant skew PBW extension of a field is a PBW deformation of its homogeneous version.
We study the deformation theory of pre-symplectic structures, i.e. closed two-forms of fixed rank. The main result is a parametrization of nearby deformations of a given pre-symplectic structure in terms of an $L_\infty$-algebra, which we call Koszul $L_\infty$-algebra. This $L_\infty$-algebra is a cousin of the Koszul dg Lie algebra associated to a Poisson manifold. In addition, we show that a quotient of the Koszul $L_{\infty}$-algebra is isomorphic to the $L_\infty$-algebra which controls the deformations of the underlying characteristic foliation. Finally, we show that the infinitesimal de…
The transfer of the generating operations of an algebra to a homotopy equivalent chain complex produces higher operations. The first goal of this paper is to describe precisely the higher structure obtained when the unary operations commute with the contracting homotopy. To solve this problem, we develop the Koszul duality theory of operads in the category of modules over a cocommutative Hopf algebra. This gives rise to a simpler category of homotopy algebras and infinity-morphisms, which allows us to get a new description of the homotopy category of algebras over such operads. The main exampl…
In this thesis, we generalize the Koszul duality for associative algebras and operads to PROPs. The operads are algebraic objects that represent the operations with multiple inputs but only one output acting on a certain type of algebras. A PROP models the operations with multiple inputs and multiple outputs acting on algebraic structures like bialgebras and Lie bialgebras. We also give a construction of the free monoid (for a monoidal product non-necessarily bilinear). We generalize the Poincare series of operads to PROPs and we prove a functional equation for Poincare series of Koszul PROPs.
It has been shown recently, in a joint work with Michel Dubois-Violette and Marc Wambst (see math.QA/0203035), that Koszul property of $N$-homogeneous algebras (as defined in the original paper) becomes natural in a $N$-complex setting. A basic question is to define the differential of the bimodule Koszul complex of an $N$-homogeneous algebra, e.g., for computing its Hochschild homology. The differential defined here uses $N$-complexes. That puts right the wrong differential presented in the original paper in a 2-complex setting. Actually, as we shall see, it is impossible to avoid $N$-complex…
For any Koszul Artin-Schelter regular algebra A, we consider a version of the universal Hopf algebra aut(A) coacting on A, introduced by Manin. To study the representations (i.e. finite dimensional comodules) of this Hopf algebra, we use the Tannaka-Krein formalism. Specifically, we construct an explicit combinatorial rigid monoidal category U, equipped with a functor M to finite dimensional vector spaces such that aut(A)= coend_U(M). Using this pair (U,M) we show that aut(A) is quasi-hereditary as a coalgebra and in addition is derived equivalent to the representation category of U.
For a symmetry braid S-Lie coalgebras, as a dual object to algebras introduced by Gurevich, are considered. For an Young antisymmetrizer an S-exterior algebra is introduced. From this differential point of view S-Lie coalgebras are investigated. The dual Koszul theorem in this case is proved.
We prove that a connected commutator (or NC) complete associative algebra can be recovered in the derived setting from its abelianization together with its natural induced structure. Specifically, we prove an equivalence between connected derived commutator complete associative algebras and connected commutative algebras equipped with a coaction of the comonad arising from the adjunction between associative and commutative algebras. This provides a Koszul dual description of connected derived commutator (or NC) complete associative algebras and furthermore may be interpreted as a theory of rel…
For a given symmetric quiver $Q$, we define a supercommutative quadratic algebra $\mathcal{A}_Q$ whose Poincaré series is related to the motivic generating function of $Q$ by a simple change of variables. The Koszul duality between supercommutative algebras and Lie superalgebras assigns to the algebra $\mathcal{A}_Q$ its Koszul dual Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{g}_Q$. We prove that the motivic Donaldson-Thomas invariants of the quiver $Q$ may be computed using the Poincaré series of a certain Lie subalgebra of $\mathfrak{g}_Q$ that can be described, using an action of the first Weyl algebra on …
We generalize the theory of Koszul complexes and Koszul algebras (in particular, Koszul duality between symmetric and exterior algebras) to symmetric tensor categories. In characteristic $p\ge 5$, this theory exhibits peculiar effects, not observed in the classical theory. In particular, we show that the symmetric and exterior algebras of a non-invertible simple object in the Verlinde category ${\rm Ver}_p$ are almost Koszul (although not Koszul), and show how this gives examples of $(r,s)$-Koszul algebras with any $r,s\ge 2$. We also develop a theory of Lie algebras in symmetric tensor catego…
