It is well-known that the intersection multiplicities of Schubert classes in the Grassmanian are Littlewood-Richardson coefficients. We generalize this statement in the context of quiver representations. Here the intersection multiplicity of Schubert classes is replaced by the number of subrepresentations of a general quiver reprsentation, and the Littlewood-Richardson coefficients are replaced by the the dimension of a certain space of semiinvariants.
Quiver Grassmannians are varieties parametrizing subrepresentations of a quiver representation. It is observed that certain quiver Grassmannians for type A quivers are isomorphic to the degenerate flag varieties investigated earlier by the second named author. This leads to the consideration of a class of Grassmannians of subrepresentations of the direct sum of a projective and an injective representation of a Dynkin quiver. It is proven that these are (typically singular) irreducible normal local complete intersection varieties, which admit a group action with finitely many orbits, and a cell…
Quiver Grassmannians are projective varieties parametrizing subrepresentations of given dimension in a quiver representation. We define a class of quiver Grassmannians generalizing those which realize degenerate flag varieties. We show that each irreducible component of the quiver Grassmannians in question is isomorphic to a Schubert variety. We give an explicit description of the set of irreducible components, identify all the Schubert varieties arising, and compute the Poincaré polynomials of these quiver Grassmannians.
Consider a partial flag variety $X$ which is not a grassmaninan. Consider also its cohomology ring ${\rm H}^*(X,\ZZ)$ endowed with the base formed by the Poincaré dual classes of the Schubert varieties. In \cite{Richmond:recursion}, E. Richmond showed that some coefficient structure of the product in ${\rm H}^*(X,\ZZ)$ are products of two such coefficients for smaller flag varieties. Consider now a quiver without oriented cycle. If $α$ and $β$ denote two dimension-vectors, $α\circβ$ denotes the number of $α$-dimensional subrepresentations of a general $α+β$-dimensional representation. In \cite…
Rank functors on a quiver $Q$ are certain additive functors from the category of representations of $Q$ to the category of finite-dimensional vector spaces. Composing with the dimension function on vector spaces gives a rank function on $Q$. These induce functions on $\rep(Q, α)$, the variety of representations of $Q$ of dimension vector $α$, and thus can be used to define "rank loci" in $\rep(Q, α)$ as collections of points satisfying finite lists of linear inequalities of rank functions. Although quiver rank functions are not generally semicontinuous like the rank of a linear map, we show he…
We propose the notion of the {\em crystalline sub-representation functor} defined on $p$-adic representations of the Galois groups of finite extensions of $\Qp$, with certain restrictions in the case of integral representations. By studying its right-derived functors, we find a natural extension of a formula of Grothendieck expressing the group of connected components of a Neron model of an abelian variety in terms of Galois cohomology.
We study moduli spaces of (semi-)stable representations of one-point extensions of quivers by rigid representations. This class of moduli spaces unifies Grassmannians of subrepresentations of rigid representations and moduli spaces of representations of generalized Kronecker quivers. With homological methods, we find numerical criteria for non-emptiness and results on basic geometric properties, construct generating semi-invariants, expand the Gel'fand MacPherson correspondence, and derive a formula for the Poincare polynomial in singular cohomology of these moduli spaces.
In this paper, we give a construction of the moduli space of filtered representations of a given quiver of fixed dimension vector with the appropriate notion of stability. The construction of the moduli of filtered representations uses the moduli of representations of ladder quiver. The ladder quiver is introduced using a given quiver and a linear type quiver. We also study determinantal theta functions on such moduli spaces.
We develop reductions for classifications of singularities of orbit closures in module varieties. Then we show that the orbit closures for representations of Dynkin quivers are regular in codimension two.
We review the theory of quiver bundles over a Kähler manifold, and then introduce the concept of generalized quiver bundles for an arbitrary reductive group G. We first study the case when G=O(V) or Sp(V), interpreting them as orthogonal (resp. symplectic) bundle representations of the symmetric quivers introduced by Derksen-Weyman. We also study supermixed quivers, which simultaneously involve both orthogonal and symplectic symmetries. Finally, we discuss Hitchin-Kobayashi correspondences for these objects.
We introduce the notion of filtered representations of quivers, which is related to usual quiver representations, but is a systematic generalization of conjugacy classes of $n\times n$ matrices to (block) upper triangular matrices up to conjugation by invertible (block) upper triangular matrices. With this notion in mind, we describe the ring of invariant polynomials for interesting families of quivers, namely, finite $ADE$-Dynkin quivers and affine type $\widetilde{A}$-Dynkin quivers. We then study their relation to an important and fundamental object in representation theory called the Groth…
We study the relationship between two stratifications on parameter spaces for coherent sheaves and for quiver representations: a stratification by Harder-Narasimhan types and a stratification arising from the geometric invariant theory construction of the associated moduli spaces of semistable objects. For quiver representations, both stratifications coincide, but this is not quite true for sheaves. We explain why the stratifications on various Quot schemes do not coincide and see that the correct parameter space to compare such stratifications is the stack of coherent sheaves. Then we relate …
We study resolutions of singularities of orbit closures in quiver representations. We consider certain resolutions of singularities which have already been constructed by Reineke, and we determine under which conditions they are crepant. More specifically, we deal with quivers of type A3, An, D4. Then, as an application of the results we have found, we construct several Fano and Calabi-Yau varieties as orbital degeneracy loci.
We decompose the Marsden-Weinstein reductions for the moment map associated to representations of a quiver. The decomposition involves symmetric products of deformations of Kleinian singularities, as well as other terms. As a corollary we deduce that the Marsden-Weinstein reductions are irreducible varieties.
Given any finite quiver, we consider a complete flag of vector spaces over each vertex. Consider the unipotent invariant subalgebra of the coordinate ring of the filtered quiver representation subspace. We prove that the dimension of the algebraic variety of the unipotent invariant subalgebra is finite. We also construct an ADHM analog for the Borel subalgebra setting, showing its birationality to the isospectral Hilbert scheme. Quiver-graded Steinberg varieties, quantum Hamiltonian reduction, and deformation quantization constructions for the nonreductive setting are discussed, ending with op…
For a perfect field $k$, we study actions of the absolute Galois group of $k$ on the $\bar{k}$-valued points of moduli spaces of quiver representations over $k$; the fixed locus is the set of $k$-rational points and we obtain a decomposition of this fixed locus indexed by elements in the Brauer group of $k$. We provide a modular interpretation of this decomposition using quiver representations over division algebras, and we reinterpret this description using twisted quiver representations. We also see that moduli spaces of twisted quiver representations give different forms of the moduli space…
In this text, we characterize the representation type of an acyclic quiver by the properties of its associated quiver Grassmannians. This characterization utilizes and extends known results about singular quiver Grassmannians and cell decompositions into affine spaces. While all quiver Grassmannians for indecomposable representations of quivers of finite representation types $A$ and $D$ are smooth and admit cell decompositions, it turns out that all quiver Grassmannians for indecomposable representations of quivers of tame types $A$ and $D$ admit cell decompositions, but some of these quiver G…
Inspired by Cachazo, Katz and Vafa (``Geometric transitions and $\mathcal {N}=1$ quiver theories'' (hep-th/0108120)), we examine representations of ``${N}=1$ quivers'' arising from string theory. We derive some mathematical consequences of the physics, and show that these results are a natural extension of Gabriel's ADE theorem. Extending the usual ADE case that relates quiver representations to curves on surfaces, we relate these new quiver representations to curves on threefolds.
We introduce the notion of (twisted) quiver representations in abelian categories and study the category of such representations. We construct standard resolutions and coresolutions of quiver representations and study basic homological properties of the category of representations. These results are applied in the case of parabolic vector bundles and framed coherent sheaves.
We study finite dimensional representations of the quantum affine algebra, using geometry of quiver varieties introduced by the author. As an application, we obtain character formulas expressed in terms of intersection cohomologies of quiver varieties.
We compute Balmer's prime spectrum for the derived category of quiver representations for a finite ordered quiver and show that it does not recover the quiver. We then associate an algebra to every k-linear triangulated tensor category and show that the path algebra can be recovered this way.
We prove a new formula for the generating function of polynomials counting absolutely stable representations of quivers over finite fields. The case of irreducible representations is studied in more detail.
In this work we obtain a version of the Procesi-Rasmyslov Theorem for the algebra of semi-invariants of representations of an arbitrary quiver with dimension vector (2,2,...,2).
A monoid structure on families of representations of a quiver is introduced by taking extensions of representations in families, i.e. subvarieties of the varieties of representations. The study of this monoid leads to interesting interactions between representation theory, algebraic geometry and quantum group theory. For example, it produces a wealth of interesting examples of families of quiver representations, which can be analyzed by representation theoretic and geometric methods. Conversely, results from representation theory, in particular A. Schofield's work on general properties of quiv…
We prove that the Marsden-Weinstein reductions for the moment map associated to representations of a quiver are normal varieties. We give an application to conjugacy classes of matrices.
These lecture notes consist of an introduction to moduli spaces in algebraic geometry, with a strong emphasis placed on examples related to the theory of quiver representations. The goal is to provide the background necessary to understand the construction of the moduli spaces of stable and semistable quiver representations due to King, Nakajima's quiver varieties, as well as some 'quiver versions' of existing moduli spaces of algebra-geometric objects.
We study the essential dimension of representations of a fixed quiver with given dimension vector. We also consider the question of when the genericity property holds, i.e., when essential dimension and generic essential dimension agree. We classify the quivers satisfying the genericity property for every dimension vector and show that for every wild quiver the genericity property holds for infinitely many of its Schur roots. We also construct a large class of examples, where the genericity property fails. Our results are particularly detailed in the case of Kronecker quivers.
In this note, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for the properness of moment maps for representations of quivers. We show that the moment map for the representations of a quiver is proper if and only if the quiver is acyclic, that is, it does not contain any oriented cycle.
We construct a family of McKay quiver representations on the Danilov resolution of the 1/r(1,a,r - a) singularity. It follows that the resolution is the normalization of the coherent component of the moduli space of stable McKay quiver representations for a suitable stability condition. We describe explicitly the corresponding chamber of stability conditions for any coprime numbers r, a.
We suggest a geometrical approach to the semi-invariants of quivers based on Luna's slice theorem and the Luna-Richardson theorem. The locally semi-simple representations are defined in this spirit but turn out to be connected with stable representations in the sense of GIT, Schofield's perpendicular categories, and Ringel's regular representations. As an application of this method we obtain an independent short proof of the theorem of Skowronsky and Weyman about semi-invariants of the tame quivers.
We define a special sort of weighted oriented graphs, signed quivers. Each of these yields a symmetric quiver, i.e., a quiver endowed with an involutive anti-automorphism and the inherited signs. We develop a representation theory of symmetric quivers, in particular we describe the indecomposable symmetric representations. Their dimensions constitute root systems corresponding to certain symmetrizable generalized Cartan matrices.
Two geometric interpretations of the bar automorphism in the positive part of a quantized enveloping algebra are given. The first is in terms of numbers of rational points over finite fields of quiver analogues of orbital varieties; the second is in terms of a duality of constructible functions provided by preprojective varieties of quivers.
Linear free divisors are free divisors, in the sense of K.Saito, with linear presentation matrix (example: normal crossing divisors). Using techniques of deformation theory on representations of quivers, we exhibit families of linear free divisors as discriminants in representation spaces for real Schur roots of a finite quiver. We review some basic material on quiver representations, and explain in detail how to verify whether the discriminant is a free divisor and how to determine its components and their equations, using techniques of A. Schofield. As an illustration, the linear free diviso…
We unify aspects of the equivariant geometry of type $D$ quiver representation varieties, double Grassmannians, and symmetric varieties $GL(a+b)/GL(a)\times GL(b)$; in particular we translate results about singularities of orbit closures, combinatorics of orbit closure containment, and torus equivariant $K$-theory between these three families. These results are all obtained from our generalization of a construction of Zelevinsky for type $A$ quivers to the type $D$ setting. More precisely, we give explicit embeddings with nice properties of homogeneous fiber bundles over type $D$ quiver repres…
We show that a semi-stable moduli space of representations of an acyclic quiver can be identified with two GIT quotients by reductive groups. One of a quiver Grassmannian of a projective representation, the other of a quiver Grassmannian of an injective representation. This recovers as special cases the classical Gelfand-MacPherson correspondence and its generalization by Hu and Kim to bipartite quivers, as well as the Zelevinsky map for a quiver of Dynkin type A with the linear orientation.
This paper is a survey on invariants of representations of quivers and their generalizations. We present the description of generating systems for invariants and relations between generators.
Any moduli space of representations of a quiver (possibly with oriented cycles) has an embedding as a dense open subvariety into a moduli space of representations of a bipartite quiver having the same type of singularities. A connected quiver is Dynkin or extended Dynkin if and only if all moduli spaces of its representations are smooth.
We present equivalences between certain categories of vector bundles on projective varieties, namely cokernel bundles, Steiner bundles, syzygy bundles, and monads, and full subcategories of representations of certain quivers. As an application, we provide decomposability criteria for such bundles.
We investigate the Poisson geometry of the Marsden-Weinstein reductions of the moment map associated to the cotangent bundle of the space of representations of a quiver. We show that the stratification by representation type equals the stratification by symplectic leaves. The deformed symplectic quotient singularities - spectra of centres of symplectic reflection algebras associated to a wreath product - are shown to be isomorphic to reductions of a certain quiver. This establishes a method to calculate when these deformations are smooth. Furthermore, the isomorphism identifies symplectic leav…
Let M and N be two representations of an extended Dynkin quiver such that the orbit O_N of N is contained in the orbit closure \bar{O_M} and has codimension two. We show that the pointed variety $(\bar{O_M},N)$ is smoothly equivalent to a simple surface singularity of type A_n, or to the cone over a rational normal curve.
In this paper we introduce and study the local quiver as a tool to investigate the etale local structure of moduli spaces of theta-stable representations of quivers. As an application we determine the dimension vectors associated to irreducible representations of torus knot groups.
We investigate representations of *-algebras associated with posets. Unitarizable representations of the corresponding (bound) quivers (which are polystable representations for some appropriately chosen slope function) give rise to representations of these algebras. Considering posets which correspond to unbound quivers this leads to an ADE-classification which describes the unitarization behaviour of their representations. Considering posets which correspond to bound quivers, it is possible to construct unitarizable representations starting with polystable representations of related unbound q…
Let G be a Lie group and Q a quiver with relations. In this paper, we define G-valued representations of Q which directly generalize G-valued representations of finitely generated groups. Although as G-spaces, the G-valued quiver representations are more general than G-valued representations of finitely generated groups, we show by collapsing arrows that their quotient spaces are equivalent. We then establish a general criterion for the moduli of G-valued quiver representations with relations to admit a strong deformation retraction to a compact quotient by pinching vertices on the quiver. Thi…
We review the definition of quiver varieties and their relation to representation theory of Kac-Moody Lie algebras. Target readers are ring and representation theorists. We emphasize important roles of first extension groups of the preprojective algebra associated with a quiver.
The notion of mixed representations of quivers can be derived from ordinary quiver representations by considering the dual action of groups on "vertex" vector spaces together with the usual action. A generating system for the algebra of semi-invariants of mixed representations of a quiver is determined. This is done by reducing the problem to the case of bipartite quivers of the special form and by introducing a function DP on three matrices, which is a mixture of the determinant and two pfaffians.
We use the geometric technique, developed by Weyman, to calculate the resolution of orbit closures of representations of Dynkin quivers with every vertex being source or sink. We use this resolution to derive the normality of such orbit closures. As a consequence we obtain the normality of certain orbit closures of type E.
