Kontsevich's formality theorem and the consequent star-product formula rely on the construction of an $L_\infty$-morphism between the DGLA of polyvector fields and the DGLA of polydifferential operators. This construction uses a version of graphical calculus. In this article we present the details of this graphical calculus with emphasis on its algebraic features. It is a morphism of differential graded Lie algebras between the Kontsevich DGLA of admissible graphs and the Chevalley-Eilenberg DGLA of linear homomorphisms between polyvector fields and polydifferential operators. Kontsevich's proof of the formality morphism is reexamined in this light and an algebraic framework for discussing the tree-level reduction of Kontsevich's star-product is described.
Motivated by the problem of transverse deformation quantization of foliated manifolds, we describe a quantization of Dirac structures (more precisely, of those that are formal deformations of regular ones) to stacks of algebroids in the sense of Kontsevich.
In this preprint the notion of deformation quantization of endomorphism bundles over symplectic manifolds is defined and developed, including index theory.
We give a classification of polarized deformation quantizations on a symplectic manifold with a (complex) polarization. Also, we establish a formula which relates the characteristic class of a polarized deformation quantization to its Fedosov class and the Chern class of the polarization.
We construct deformation quantizations with separation of variables on a split super-Kähler manifold and describe their canonical supertrace densities.
We show that Deformation Quantization of quadratic Poisson structures preserves the $A_\infty$-Morita equivalence of a given pair of Koszul dual $A_\infty$-algebras.
In deformation quantization one can associate five characteristic functions to (stable) formality morphisms on cochains and chains and to "two-brane" formality morphisms. We show that these characteristic functions agree.
We study deformation quantization on an infinite-dimensional Hilbert space $W$ endowed with its canonical Poisson structure. The standard example of the Moyal star-product is made explicit and it is shown that it is well defined on a subalgebra of $C^\infty(W)$. A classification of inequivalent deformation quantizations of exponential type, containing the Moyal and normal star-products, is also given.
We prove that the action of the Grothendieck-Teichmüller group on the genus completed properad of (homotopy) Lie bialgebras commutes with the reversing directions involution of the latter. We also prove that every universal quantization of Lie bialgebras is homotopy equivalent to the one which commutes with the duality involution exchanging Lie bracket and Lie cobracket. The proofs are based on a new result in the theory of oriented graph complexes (which can be of independent interest) saying that the involution on an oriented graph complex that changes all directions on edges induces the ide…
We introduce dg Lie algebras controlling the deformations of vertex algebras and vertex Poisson algebras, utilizing the notion of operadic dg Lie algebra and the theory of chiral algebra. In terms of those dg Lie algebras, we formulate the deformation quantization problem of vertex Poisson algebras to vertex algebras.
This is the first in a series of articles devoted to deformation quantization of gerbes. Here we give basic definitions and interpret deformations of a given gerbe as Maurer-Cartan elements of a differential graded Lie algebra (DGLA). We classify all deformations of a given gerbe on a symplectic manifold, as well as provide a deformation-theoretic interpretation of the first Rozansky-Witten class.
Oriented graph complexes, in which graphs are not allowed to have oriented cycles, govern for example the quantization of Lie bialgebras and infinite dimensional deformation quantization. It is shown that the oriented graph complex GC^or_n is quasi-isomorphic to the ordinary commutative graph complex GC_{n-1}, up to some known classes. This yields in particular a combinatorial description of the action of the Grothendieck-Teichmüller Lie algebra on Lie bialgebras, and shows that a cycle-free formality morphism in the sense of Shoikhet can be constructed rationally without reference to configur…
We construct an analogue of the Livernet--Loday operad for two compatible brackets. The Livernet--Loday operad can be used to define $\star$-products and deformation quantization for Poisson structures. We make use of our operad in the same way, introducing a definition of (operadic) deformation quantization of compatible Poisson structures.
In this paper is constructed an algebraic deformation quantization of the coadjoint orbits of the group G semidirect product of the symmetric n by n matrices and GL(n). This group is linked to the dynamics of the self gravitating ellipsoid.
To each natural deformation quantization on a Poisson manifold M we associate a Poisson morphism from the formal neighborhood of the zero section of the cotangent bundle to M to the formal neighborhood of the diagonal of the product M x M~, where M~ is a copy of M with the opposite Poisson structure. We call it dequantization of the natural deformation quantization. Then we "dequantize" Fedosov's quantization.
In this paper we shall show the equivalence of algebraic and analytic localisation for algebras of smooth deformation quantization for several situations. The proofs are based on old work by Whitney, Malgrange and Tougeron on the commutative algebra of smooth function rings from the 60's and 70's.
We give an elementary proof of the result by Leichtnam, Tang, and Weinstein that there exists a deformation quantization with separation of variables on a complex manifold endowed with a Kaehler-Poisson structure vanishing on a Levi nondegenerate hypersurface and nondegenerate on its complement.
Global constructions of quantization deformation and obstructions are discussed for an arbitrary complex analytic space in terms of adapted (analytic) Hochschild cohomology. For K3-surfaces an explicit global construction of a Poisson bracket is given. It is shown that the analytic Hochschild (co)homology on a complex space has structure of coherent analytic sheaf in each degree.
A model of 3-dimensional topological quantum field theory is rigorously constructed. The results are applied to an explicit formula for deformation quantization of any finite-dimensional Lie bialgebra over the field of complex numbers. This gives an explicit construction of "quantum groups" from any Lie bialgebra, which was proven without explicit formulas in [EK].
In this paper, we prove that there is a canonical homotopy $(n+1)$-algebra structure on the shifted operadic deformation complex $Def(e_n\to\mathcal{P})[-n]$ for any operad $\mathcal{P}$ and a map of operads $f\colon e_n\to\mathcal{P}$. This result generalizes the result of [T2], where the case $\mathcal{P}=\mathrm{End}_{Op}(X)$ was considered. Another more computational proof of the same statement was recently sketched in [CW]. Our method combines the one of [T2] with the categorical algebra on the category of symmetric sequences, introduced in [R] and further developed in [KM] and [Fr1]. We …
We give a heat kernel proof of the algebraic index theorem for deformation quantization with separation of variables on a pseudo-Kahler manifold. We use normalizations of the canonical trace density of a star product and of the characteristic classes involved in the index formula for which this formula contains no extra constant factors.
We give a simple formula for the operator C_3 of the standard deformation quantization with separation of variables on a Kähler manifold M. Unlike C_1 and C_2, this operator can not be expressed in terms of the Kähler-Poisson tensor on M. We modify C_3 to obtain a covariant deformation quantization with separation of variables up to the third order which is expressed in terms of the Poisson tensor on M and thus can be defined on an arbitrary complex manifold endowed with a Poisson bivector field of type (1,1).
Motivated by the problem of deformation quantization we introduce and study directed graph complexes with oriented loops and wheels. We develop some technique for computing cohomology of such graph complexes and apply it to several concrete examples such as wheeled completion of the operad of strongly homotopy Lie algebras and the wheeled completion of the dg prop of Poisson structures. We prove also a deformation quantization theorem of wheeled Poisson structures on arbitrary formal graded manifolds.
Let $X$ be a smooth affine symplectic variety over $\mathbb{Z}/p\mathbb{Z},$ and let $A_1$ be an Azumaya algebra over $X.$ In this note we show that if $A$ is a deformation quantization of $A_1$ over $\mathbb{Z}/p^n\mathbb{Z}$, then any two-sided $\mathbb{Z}/p^n\mathbb{Z}$-flat ideal in $A$ is generated by central elements.
We give a formula for a cocycle generating the Hochschild cohomology of the Weyl algebra with coefficients in its dual.It is given by an integral over the configuration space of ordered points on a circle. Using this formula and a non-commutative version of formal geometry, we obtain an explicit expression for the canonical trace in deformation quantization of symplectic manifolds.
We study the differential graded Lie algebra of endomorphisms of the Koszul resolution of a regular sequence on a unitary commutative $K$-algebra $R$ and we prove that it is homotopy abelian over $K$, while it is generally not formal over $R$. We apply this result to prove an annihilation theorem for obstructions of (derived) deformations of locally complete intersection ideal sheaves on projective schemes.
Quantum de Rham complexes on the quantum plane and the quantum group itself are constructed for the Zakrewski deformation of $ Fun ( SL(2)) $. As a by-product a new deformation of the two dimensional Heisenberg algeb ra is constructed which can be used to construct models of h-deformed quantum mechanics.
Universal solutions to deformation quantization problems can be conveniently classified by the cohomology of suitable graph complexes. In particular, the deformation quantizations of (finite-dimensional) Poisson manifolds and Lie bialgebras are characterised by an action of the Grothendieck-Teichmüller group via one-colored directed and oriented graphs, respectively. In this note, we study the action of multi-oriented graph complexes on Lie bialgebroids and their "quasi" generalisations. Using results due to T. Willwacher and M. Zivković on the cohomology of (multi)-oriented graphs, we show th…
We prove a Riemann-Roch formula for deformation quantization of complex manifolds and its corollary, an index theorem for elliptic pairs conjectured by Schapira and Schneiders.
A method for the deformation quantization of coadjoint orbits of semisimple Lie groups is proposed. It is based on the algebraic structure of the orbit. Its relation to geometric quantization and differentiable deformations is explored.
We make a deformation quantization by Moyal star-product on a space of functions endowed with the normalized Wick product and where Stratonovich chaos are well defined.
This paper discusses the notion of a deformation quantization for an arbitrary polynomial Poisson algebra A. We examine the Hochschild cohomology group H^3(A) and find that if a deformation of A exists it can be given by bidifferential operators. We then compute an explicit third order deformation quantization of A and show that it comes from a quantized enveloping algebra. We show that the deformation extends to a fourth order deformation if and only if the quantized enveloping algebra gives a fourth order deformation; moreover we give an example where the deformation does not extend. A corre…
Let X be a smooth algebraic variety over a field K containing the real numbers. We introduce the notion of twisted associative (resp. Poisson) deformation of the structure sheaf of X. These are stack-like versions of usual deformations. We prove that there is a twisted quantization operation from twisted Poisson deformations to twisted associative deformations, which is canonical and bijective on gauge equivalence classes. This result extends work of Kontsevich, and our own earlier work, on deformation quantization of algebraic varieties.
This note contains a correction of the proofs of the main results of the paper [A. Yekutieli, Deformation quantization in algebraic geometry, Adv. Math. 198 (2005), 383-432]. The results are correct as originally stated.
Let $α$ be a quadratic Poisson bivector on a vector space $V$. Then one can also consider $α$ as a quadratic Poisson bivector on the vector space $V^*[1]$. Fixed a universal deformation quantization (prediction some weights to all Kontsevich graphs [K97]), we have deformation quantization of the both algebras $S(V^*)$ and $Λ(V)$. These are graded quadratic algebras, and therefore Koszul algebras. We prove that for some universal deformation quantization, independent on $α$, these two algebras are Koszul dual. We characterize some deformation quantizations for which this theorem is true in the …
In this article we describe the coadjoint orbits of SL(2,$\mathbb R$). After choosing polarizations for each orbits, we pointed out the corresponding quantum coadjoint orbits and therefore unitary representations of SL(2,$\mathbb R$) via deformation quantization.
We compute an explicit algebraic deformation quantization for an affine Poisson variety described by an ideal in a polynomial ring, and inheriting its Poisson structure from the ambient space.
Let X be a smooth algebraic variety over a field of characteristic 0. We introduce the notion of twisted associative (resp. Poisson) deformation of the structure sheaf O_X. These are stack-like versions of usual deformations. We prove that there is a twisted quantization map from twisted Poisson deformations to twisted associative deformations, which is canonical and bijective on equivalence classes.
We study when a finite dimensional Hopf action on a quantum formal deformation A of a commutative domain A_0 (i.e., a deformation quantization) must factor through a group algebra. In particular, we show that this occurs when the Poisson center of the fraction field of A_0 is trivial.
Ricci-type symplectic manifolds have been introduced and extensively studied by M. Cahen et al.. In this note, we describe their deformation quantizations in the split solvable symmetric case. In particular, we introduce the notion of non-formal tempered deformation quantization on such a space. We show that the set of tempered deformation quantizations is in one-to-one correspondence with the space of Schwartz operator multipliers on the real line. Moreover we prove that every invariant formal star product on a split Ricci-type solvable symmetric space is an asymptotic expansion of a tempered…
Universal Deformation Formulas (UDFs) for the deformation of associative algebras play a key role in deformation quantization. Here we present examples for certain classes of infinitesimals. A basic representable 2-cocycle $F$ of an associative algebra $\mathcal A$ is one for which there exist commuting derivations $D,\dots, D_n$ of $\mathcal A$ such that $F = \sum_{ij}a_{ij}D_i \smile D_j$, where the $a_{ij}$ are central elements of $\mathcal A$. When $\mathcal A$ is defined over the rationals, there is a natural definition of the exponential of such a cocycle. With this $\exp \hbar F$ define…
We introduce a new kind of groupoid--a pseudo étale groupoid, which provides many interesting examples of noncommutative Poisson algebras as defined by Block, Getzler, and Xu. Following the idea that symplectic and Poisson geometries are the semiclassical limits of the corresponding quantum geometries, we quantize these noncommutative Poisson manifolds in the framework of deformation quantization.
Using the classification of formal deformation quantizations, and the formal, algebraic index theorem, I give a simple proof as to which formal deformation quantization (modulo isomorphism) is derived from a given geometric quantization.
In these lecture notes I give an introduction to deformation quantization. The quantization problem is discussed in some detail thereby motivating the notion of star products. Starting from a deformed observable algebra, i.e. the star product algebra, physical applications require to study representations of this algebra. I review the recent development of a representation theory including techniques like Rieffel induction and Morita equivalence. Applications beyond quantization theory are found in noncommutative field theories.
In this paper we make a review of the results obtained in previous works by the authors on deformation quantization of coadjoint orbits of semisimple Lie groups. We motivate the problem with a new point of view of the well known Moyal-Weyl deformation quantization. We consider only semisimple orbits. Algebraic and differential deformations are compared.
In this paper we consider the problem of deformation quantization of the algebra of polynomial functions on coadjoint orbits of semisimple lie groups. The deformation of an orbit is realized by taking the quotient of the universal enveloping algebra of the Lie algebra of the given Lie group, by a suitable ideal. A comparison with geometric quantization in the case of SU(2) is done where both methods agree.
After sketching recent advances and subtleties in classical relativistically covariant field theories, we give in this short Note some indications as to how the deformation quantization approach can be used to solve or at least give a better understanding of their quantization.
In this paper we construct a deformation quantization of the algebra of polynomials of an arbitrary (regular and non regular) coadjoint orbit of a compact semisimple Lie group. The deformed algebra is given as a quotient of the enveloping algebra by a suitable ideal.
A simple iterative procedure is suggested for the deformation quantization of (irregular) Poisson brackets associated to the classical Yang-Baxter equation. The construction is shown to admit a pure algebraic reformulation giving the Universal Deformation Formula (UDF) for any triangular Lie bialgebra. A simple proof of classification theorem for inequivalent UDF's is given. As an example the explicit quantization formula is presented for the quasi-homogeneous Poisson brackets on two-plane.
We construct a canonical deformation quantization for symplectic supermanifolds. This gives a novel proof of the super-analogue of Fedosov quantization. Our proof uses the formalism of Gelfand-Kazhdan descent, whose foundations we establish in the super-symplectic setting.
We extend Fedosov deformation quantization to general contact manifolds. Unlike the case of symplectic manifolds, not every classical observable on a contact manifold is generally quantized. On examination of possible obstructions to quantization, we obtain some new invariants of contact manifolds.
Rickard complexes in the context of categorified quantum groups can be used to construct braid group actions. We define and study certain natural deformations of these complexes which we call curved Rickard complexes. One application is to obtain deformations of link homologies which generalize those of Batson-Seed arXiv:1303.6240 and Gorsky-Hogancamp arXiv:1712.03938 to arbitrary representations/partitions. Another is to relate the deformed homology defined algebro-geometrically in arXiv:1410.7156 to categorified quantum groups (this was the original motivation for this paper).
In this contribution to the proceedings of the 68eme Rencontre entre Physiciens Theoriciens et Mathematiciens on Deformation Quantization I shall report on some recent joint work with Henrique Bursztyn on the representation theory of *-algebras arising from deformation quantization as I presented this in my talk.
