Let (M,E) be a generalized polarized manifold, i.e., a pair of an n-dimensional smooth projective variety and an ample vector bundle E of rank r on M. Let t be the nef value of a polarized manifold (M, det E), i.e., the minimum of the set of real numbers s such that K+s det E is nef; we have tr<= n+1 by Mori's theory. In this paper we classify the pairs (M,E) in the following two cases: (1) n-2<= tr and t >= 1; (2) n+1-tr< t <= 1.
We study the classification problem for polarized varieties with high nefvalue. We give a complete list of isomorphism classes for normal polarized varieties with high nefvalue. This generalizes classical work on the smooth case by Fujita, Beltrametti and Sommese. As a consequence we obtain that polarized varieties with slc singularities and high nefvalue, are birationally equivalent to projective bundles over nodal curves.
We study lc pairs polarized by a nef and log big divisor. After proving the minimal model theory for projective lc pairs polarized by a nef and log big divisor, we prove the effectivity of the Iitaka fibrations and some boundedness results for dlt pairs polarized by a nef and log big divisor.
Let X be a projective irreducible symplectic manifold and L a non trivial nef divisor on X. Assume that the nef dimension of L is strictly less than the dimension of X. We prove that L is semiample
In this note we prove that any toric Fano manifold with nef tangent bundle is a product of projective spaces. In particular, it implies that Campana-Peternell conjecture hold for toric manifolds.
We solve Teissier's proportionality problem for transcendental nef classes over a compact Kähler manifold which says that the equality in the Khovanskii-Teissier inequalities hold for two nef and big classes if and only if the two classes are proportional. This result recovers the previous one of Boucksom-Favre-Jonsson for the case of nef and big line bundles over a (complex) projective algebraic manifold.
We show the invariance of plurigenera for generalized polarized pairs with abundant nef parts and generalized canonical singularities. This is obtained by investigating a type of newly introduced multiplier ideal sheaf which is of bimeromorphic nature.
Let $(X, ω_X)$ be a compact Kähler manifold such that the anticanonical bundle $-K_X$ is nef. We prove that the slopes of the Harder-Narasimhan filtration of the tangent bundle with respect to a polarization of the form $ω_X^{n-1}$ are semi-positive. As an application, we give a characterization of rationally connected compact Kähler manifolds with nef anticanonical bundles. As another application, we give a simple proof of the surjectivity of the Albanese map.
In this paper, we investigate higher order minimal families $H_i$ of rational curves associated to Fano manifolds $X$. We prove that $H_i$ is also a Fano manifold if the Chern characters of $X$ satisfy some positivity conditions. We also provide a sufficient condition for Fano manifolds to be covered by higher rational manifolds.
The cotangent bundle of a non-uniruled projective manifold is generically nef, due to a theorem of Miyaoka. We show that the cotangent bundle is actually generically ample, if the manifold is of general type and study in detail the case of intermediate Kodaira dimension. Moreover, manifolds with generically nef and ample tangent bundles are investigated as well as connections to classical theorems on vector fields on projective manifolds.
We classify smooth complex projective varieties $X \subset \proj^N$ of dimension $2s+1$ containing a linear subspace $Λ$ of dimension $s$ whose normal bundle $N_{Λ/X}$ is numerically effective.
We show that the tangent bundle of a projective manifold with nef anticanonical class is generically nef. That is, its restriction to a curve cut out by general sufficiently ample divisors is a nef vector bundle. This confirms a conjecture of Peternell. As a consequence, the second Chern class of such a manifold has non-negative intersections with ample divisors. We also investigate under which conditions these positivities are strict, and answer a question of Yau.
A Fano manifold $X$ with nef tangent bundle is of flag-type if it has the same type of elementary contractions as a complete flag manifold. In this paper we present a method to associate a Dynkin diagram $\mathcal{D}(X)$ with any such $X$, based on the numerical properties of its contractions. We then show that $\mathcal{D}(X)$ is the Dynkin diagram of a semisimple Lie group. As an application we prove that Campana-Peternell conjecture holds when $X$ is a flag-type manifold whose Dynkin diagram is $A_n$ ($X$ is shown to be the complete flag in $\mathbb{P}^n$).
Let X be a simply connected projective manifold with nef anticanonical bundle. We prove that X is a product of a rationally connected manifold and a manifold with trivial canonical bundle. As an application we describe the MRC fibration of any projective manifold with nef anticanonical bundle.
This article is concerned with Chern class and Chern number inequalities on polarized manifolds and nef vector bundles. For a polarized pair $(M,L)$ with $L$ very ample, our first main result is a family of sharp Chern class inequalities. Among them the first one is a variant of a classical result and the equality case of the second one is a characterization of hypersurfaces. The second main result is a Chern number inequality on it, which includes a reverse Miyaoka-Yau type inequality. The third main result is that the Chern numbers of a nef vector bundle over a compact Kähler manifold are bo…
Let $X$ be a projective manifold such that the anticanonical bundle $-K_X$ is nef. We prove that the Albanese map $p: X \rightarrow Y$ is locally isotrivial. In particular, $p$ is a submersion.
We prove that a projective contact manifold X with second Betti number at least 2 whose canonical bundle K_X is not nef, is always the projectivised tangent bundle P(T_Y) of a projective manifold Y. It is expected that the canonical bundle of a projective contact manifold is never nef; we prove this unless possibly K_X^2 = 0 and K_X is not numerically trivial. Moreover we study more generally nef subsheaves of rank 1 in the cotangent bundle which are proportional to the canonical bundle.
We study the geometry of projective manifolds whose tangent bundles are nef on sufficiently general curves (i.e. the tangent bundle is generically nef) and show that manifolds whose anticanonical bundles are semi-ample have this property. Furthermore we introduce a notion of sufficient nefness and investigate the relation with manifolds whose anticanonical bundles are nef.
Let X be a compact Kähler manifold such that the anticanonical bundle $-K_X$ is nef. A classical conjecture claims that the Albanese map is submersive. We prove this conjecture if the general fibre is a weak Fano manifold. If X is projective we prove the conjecture also for fibres of dimension at most two.
In this paper we study holomorphic vector bundles with singular Hermitian metrics whose curvature are Hermitian matrix currents. We obtain an extension theorem for holomorphic jet sections of nef holomorphic vector bundle on compact Kähler manifolds. Using it we prove that Fano manifolds with strong Griffiths nef tangent bundles are rational homogeneous spaces.
Let $(X, ω)$ be an n-dimensional compact Kähler manifold. Let $D=\sum (1-β_j) Y_j=\sum (1-β_j) [s_j=0]$ a divisor with simple normal crossings with $β_j \in ]0,1[$ such that $-(K_X+D)$ is nef. We show that its Albanese map is submersion outside an analytic set of codimension larger than two with connected fibres.
Let X be an irreducible symplectic manifold and L a nef line bundle on X which is isotropic with respect to the Beauville-Bogomolov quadratic form. It is known that a subgroup Aut(X,L) of an automorphism group of X which fix L is almost abelian. We give a formula of the rank of Aut(X,L) in terms of MBM divisors. We also prove that the nef cone of X cut out MBM classes, which is a generalization of Kovac's structure theorem of nef cones of K3 surfaces
Suppose that $X$ is a projective manifold whose tangent bundle $T_X$ contains a locally free strictly nef subsheaf. We prove that $X$ is isomorphic to a projective bundle over a hyperbolic manifold. Moreover, if the fundamental group $π_1(X)$ is virtually abelian, then $X$ is isomorphic to a projective space.
Let $X$ be a projective manifold of dimension $n$ and $L$ a strictly nef line bundle on $X$. Then $K_X+tL$ is ample if $t > n+1$ in the following cases. 1.) $\text{dim} X = 3$ unless (possibly) $X$ is a Calabi-Yau with $c_2 \cdot L=0$; 2.) $κ(X) \ge n-2$; 3.) $\text{dim} α(X) \ge n-2$, with $α: X \to A$ the Albanese map.
In this article we prove a general result on a nef vector bundle $E$ on a projective manifold $X$ of dimension $n$ depending on the vector space $H^{n,n} (X, E). $ It is also shown that $H^{n,n} (X, E)=0$ for an indecomposable nef rank 2 vector bundles $E$ on some specific type of $n$ dimensional projective manifold $X.$ The same vanishing shown to hold for indecomposable nef and big rank 2 vector bundles on any variety with trivial canonical bundle.
Let M be a compact, holomorphically symplectic Kahler manifold, and $η$ a (1,1)-current which is nef (a limit of Kahler forms). Assume that the cohomology class of $η$ is parabolic, that is, its top power vanishes. We prove that all Lelong sets of $η$ are coisotropic. When M is generic, this is used to show that all Lelong numbers of $η$ vanish. We prove that any hyperkahler manifold with Pic(M) of rank 1 has non-trivial coisotropic subvarieties, if a generator of Pic(M) is parabolic.
Let (X,H) be a polarized, smooth, complex projective surface, and let v be a Chern character on X with positive rank and sufficiently large discriminant. In this paper, we compute the Gieseker wall for v in a slice of the stability manifold of X. We construct explicit curves parameterizing non-isomorphic Gieseker stable sheaves that become S-equivalent along the wall. As a corollary, we conclude that if there are no strictly semistable sheaves of character v, the Bayer-Macri divisor associated to the wall is a boundary nef divisor on the moduli space of sheaves M_H(v). We recover previous resu…
Let (X,L) be a quasi polarized pairs, i.e. X is a normal complex projective variety and L is a nef and big line bundle on it. We study, up to birational equivalence, the positivity (nefness) of the adjoint bundles K_X + rL for high rational number r. For this we run a Minimal Model Program with scaling relative to the divisor K_X +rL. We give some applications, namely the classification up to birational equivalence of quasi polarized pairs with sectional genus 0,1 and of embedded projective varieties X < P^N with degree smaller than 2codim(X) +2.
For a Fano manifold of pseudo-index at least 3 and $c_1^2-2c_2$ nef, we show irreducibility of certain spaces of curves on the Fano manifold implies the manifold is a union of rational surfaces.
Let p: Y--> X be a surjection between schemes projective over the algebraic closure of a finite field. Let L be a line bundle on X such that p^*(L) is globally generated. I give a natural necessary and sufficient condition under which some positive tensor power of L is globally generated. I apply this to give a sufficient condition for semi-ampleness of nef line bundles on the moduli space of stable pointed curves, in positive characteristic.
Let $f : (X, Δ) \to Y$ be a flat, projective family of sharply $F$-pure, log-canonically polarized pairs over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p >0$ such that $p \nmid \ind(K_{X/Y} + Δ)$. We show that $K_{X/Y} + Δ$ is nef and that $f_* (\sO_X(m (K_{X/Y} + Δ)))$ is a nef vector bundle for $m \gg 0$ and divisible enough. Some of the results also extend to non log-canonically polarized pairs. The main motivation of the above results is projectivity of proper subspaces of the moduli space of stable pairs in positive characteristics. Other applications are Kodaira vanishing free, al…
Given a compact Kähler manifold $X$ it is interesting to ask whether it admits a constant scalar curvature Kähler (cscK) metric. In this short note we show that there always exist cscK metrics on compact Kähler manifolds with nef canonical bundle, thus on all smooth minimal models, and also on the blowup of any such manifold. This confirms an expectation of Jian-Shi-Song \cite{JianShiSong} and extends their main result from $K_X$ semi-ample to $K_X$ nef, with a direct proof that does not appeal to the Abundance conjecture. As a byproduct we obtain that the connected component $\mathrm{Aut}_0(X…
Let $\{α\}$ and $\{β\}$ be nef cohomology classes of bidegree $(1,\,1)$ on a compact $n$-dimensional Kähler manifold $X$ such that the difference of intersection numbers $\{α\}^n - n\,\{α\}^{n-1}.\,\{β\}$ is positive. We solve in a number of special but rather inclusive cases the quantitative part of Demailly's Transcendental Morse Inequalities Conjecture for this context predicting the lower bound $\{α\}^n-n\,\{α\}^{n-1}.\,\{β\}$ for the volume of the difference class $\{α-β\}$. We completely solved the qualitative part in an earlier work. We also give general lower bounds for the volume of $…
We determine the cone of nef divisors on the Voronoi compactification A_g^* of the moduli space A_g of principally polarized abelian varieties of dimension g for genus g=2,3. As a corollary we obtain that the spaces A_g^*(n) with level-n structure are a minimal, resp. canonical, model for g=2, n>=4, resp. n>=5 and g=3, n>=3, resp. n>=4. We give two proofs: The easy and quick one reduces the problem to \bar M_g where we can use a result of Faber. This approach cannot be generalized to higher genus g. The main point of the paper is, therefore, to give a second proof using theta functions and a r…
We prove a Kawamata-Viehweg vanishing theorem on a normal compact Kahler space X: if L is a nef line bundle with numerical dimension at least equal to 2, then the q-th cohomology group of K_X+L vanishes for q at least equal to the dimension of X minus 1. As an application, a special case of the abundance conjecture for minimal Kahler threefolds is proven: if X is a minimal Kahler threefold (in the usual sense that K_X is nef), then the Kodaira dimension kappa(X) is nonnegative.
Using currents with minimal singularities, we construct pointwise minimal multiplicities for a real pseudo-effective $(1,1)$-class $α$ on a compact complex $n$-fold $X$, which are the local obstructions to the numerical effectivity of $α$. The negative part of $α$ is then defined as the real effective divisor $N(α)$ whose multiplicity along a prime divisor $D$ is just the generic multiplicity of $α$ along $D$, and we get in that way a divisorial Zariski decomposition of $α$ into the sum of a class $Z(α)$ which is nef in codimension 1 and the class of its negative part $N(α)$, which is exceptio…
In this paper, we study the behavior of the sets of volumes of the form $\mathrm{vol}(X,K_X+B+M)$, where $(X,B)$ is a log canonical pair, and $M$ is a nef $\mathbb{R}$-divisor. After a first analysis of some general properties, we focus on the case when $M$ is $\mathbb{Q}$-Cartier with given Cartier index, and $B$ has coefficients in a given DCC set. First, we show that such sets of volumes satisfy the DCC property in the case of surfaces. Once this is established, we show that surface pairs with given volume and for which $K_X+B+M$ is ample form a log bounded family. These generalize results …
A complex manifold $X$ of dimension $n$ together with an ample vector bundle $E$ on it will be called a {\sf generalized polarized variety}. The adjoint bundle of the pair $(X,E)$ is the line bundle $K_X + det(E)$. We study the positivity (the nefness or ampleness) of the adjoint bundle in the case $r := rank (E) = (n-2)$. If $r\geq (n-1)$ this was previously done in a series of paper by Ye-Zhang, Fujita, Andreatta-Ballico-Wisniewski. If $K_X+detE$ is nef, then by the Kawamata-Shokurov base point free theorem, it supports a contraction; i.e. a map $π:X \longrightarrow W$ from $X$ onto a normal…
A Finsler metric, whose holomorphic curvature is bounded from above by a negative constant, is constructed on the moduli stack of canonically polarized manifolds including singularities. Demailly's version of Ahlfors' lemma yields hyperbolicity of the moduli stack.
Let B be a nef and big line bundle on a smooth complex threefold X with canonical bundle K. Let x be a point on X and suppose that BC\ge3 for any curve C passing x, B^2S\ge7 for any surface S containing x, and B^3\ge51. Then K+B is spanned at x. (Ein-Lazarsfeld proved the assertion assuming B^3\ge92.) Corollary: K+3L is spanned if L is an ample line bundle with L^3>1.
In this note, we continue the investigation of a projective Kähler manifold $M$ of semi-negative holomorphic sectional curvature $H$. We introduce a new differential geometric numerical rank invariant which measures the number of linearly independent {\it truly flat} directions of $H$ in the tangent spaces. We prove that this invariant is bounded above by the nef dimension and bounded below by the numerical Kodaira dimension of $M$. We also prove a splitting theorem for $M$ in terms of the nef dimension and, under some additional hypotheses, in terms of the new rank invariant.
We investigate nef and movable cones of hypersurfaces in Mori dream spaces. The first result is: Let $Z$ be a smooth Mori dream space of dimension at least four whose extremal contractions are of fiber type of relative dimension at least two and let $X$ be a smooth ample divisor in $Z$, then $X$ is a Mori dream space as well. The second result is: Let $Z$ be a Fano manifold of dimension at least four whose extremal contractions are of fiber type and let $X$ be a smooth anti-canonical hypersurface in $Z$, which is a smooth Calabi--Yau variety, then the unique minimal model of $X$ up to isomorph…
We construct quasi-projective moduli spaces of $K$-general lattice polarized irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds. Moreover, we study their Baily--Borel compactification and investigate a relation between one-dimensional boundary components and equivalence classes of rational Lagrangian fibrations defined on mirror manifolds.
We show that the moduli space of polarized irreducible symplectic manifolds of $K3^{[n]}$-type, of fixed polarization type, is not always connected. This can be derived as a consequence of Eyal Markman's characterization of polarized parallel-transport operators of $K3^{[n]}$-type.
We generalize Nikulin's and Dolgachev's lattice-theoretical mirror symmetry for K3 surfaces to lattice polarized higher dimensional irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds. In the case of fourfolds of $K3^{\left[2\right]}-$type we then describe mirror families of polarized fourfolds and we give an example with mirror non-symplectic involutions.
