This article is concerned with Chern class and Chern number inequalities on polarized manifolds and nef vector bundles. For a polarized pair $(M,L)$ with $L$ very ample, our first main result is a family of sharp Chern class inequalities. Among them the first one is a variant of a classical result and the equality case of the second one is a characterization of hypersurfaces. The second main result is a Chern number inequality on it, which includes a reverse Miyaoka-Yau type inequality. The third main result is that the Chern numbers of a nef vector bundle over a compact Kähler manifold are bounded below by the Euler number. As an application, we classify compact Kähler manifolds with nonnegative bisectional curvature whose Chern numbers are all positive. A conjecture related to the Euler number of compact Kähler manifolds with nonpositive bisectional curvature is proposed, which can be regarded as a complex analogue to the Hopf conjecture.
On a compact Kähler manifold, we introduce a notion of almost nonpositivity for the holomorphic sectional curvature, which by definition is weaker than the existence of a Kähler metric with semi-negative holomorphic sectional curvature. We prove that a compact Kähler manifold of almost nonpositive holomorphic sectional curvature has a nef canonical line bundle, contains no rational curves and satisfies some Miyaoka-Yau type inequalities. In the course of the discussions, we attach a real value to any fixed Kähler class which, up to a constant factor depending only on the dimension of manifold,…
We prove the qualitative part of Demailly's conjecture on transcendental Morse inequalities for differences of two nef classes satisfying a numerical relative positivity condition on an arbitrary compact Kähler (and even more general) manifold. The result improves on an earlier one by J. Xiao whose constant $4n$ featuring in the hypothesis is now replaced by the optimal and natural $n$. Our method follows arguments by Chiose as subsequently used by Xiao up to the point where we introduce a new way of handling the estimates in a certain Monge-Ampère equation. This result is needed to extend to …
In this paper, we investigate the Chern number inequalities on $4$-dimensional Kähler manifolds admitting the deformed Hermitian-Yang-Mills metrics under the assumption $\hatθ\in (π,2π)$.
We show in this article that Kähler hyperbolic manifolds satisfy a family of optimal Chern number inequalities and the equality cases can be attained by some compact ball quotients. These present restrictions to complex structures on negatively-curved compact Kähler manifolds, thus providing evidence to the rigidity conjecture of S.-T. Yau. The main ingredients in our proof are Gromov's results on the $L^2$-Hodge numbers, the $-1$-phenomenon of the $χ_y$-genus and Hirzebruch's proportionality principle. Similar methods can be applied to obtain parallel results on Kähler non-elliptic manifolds.…
Let $\{α\}$ and $\{β\}$ be nef cohomology classes of bidegree $(1,\,1)$ on a compact $n$-dimensional Kähler manifold $X$ such that the difference of intersection numbers $\{α\}^n - n\,\{α\}^{n-1}.\,\{β\}$ is positive. We solve in a number of special but rather inclusive cases the quantitative part of Demailly's Transcendental Morse Inequalities Conjecture for this context predicting the lower bound $\{α\}^n-n\,\{α\}^{n-1}.\,\{β\}$ for the volume of the difference class $\{α-β\}$. We completely solved the qualitative part in an earlier work. We also give general lower bounds for the volume of $…
In this note, We proved that a compact Sasakian manifold $( M, ξ, η, Φ , g )$ with negative transverse holomorphic sectional curvature must have has a Sasakian structure $( ξ, η , Φ , g )$ with negative transverse Ricci curvature. Similarly, a compact Sasakian manifold with non-positive transverse holomorphic sectional curvature, then the negative first basic Chern class is transverse nef and we have the Miyaoka-Yau type inequality. When transverse holomorphic sectional curvature is quasi-negative, we obtain a Chern number inequality.
We prove a Bochner type vanishing theorem for compact complex manifolds $Y$ in Fujiki class $\mathcal C$, with vanishing first Chern class, that admit a cohomology class $[α] \in H^{1,1}(Y,\mathbb R)$ which is numerically effective (nef) and has positive self-intersection (meaning $\int_Y α^n \,>\, 0$, where $n\,=\,\dim_{\mathbb C} Y$). Using it, we prove that all holomorphic geometric structures of affine type on such a manifold $Y$ are locally homogeneous on a non-empty Zariski open subset. Consequently, if the geometric structure is rigid in the sense of Gromov, then the fundamental group o…
Inequalities à la Frölicher and cohomological decompositions
Let $(X,ω)$ be a Hermitian manifold and let $(E,h^E)$, $(F,h^F)$ be two Hermitian holomorphic line bundle over $X$. Suppose that the maximal rank of the Chern curvature $c(E)$ of $E$ is $r$, and the kernel of $c(E)$ is foliated, i.e. there is a foliation $Y$ of $X$, of complex codimension $r$, such that the tangent space of the leaf at each point $x\in X$ is contained in the kernel of $c(E)$. In this paper, local versions of Demailly-Bouche's holomorphic Morse inequalities (which give asymptotic bounds for cohomology groups $H^{q}(X,E^k\otimes F^l)$ as $k,l,k/l\rightarrow \infty$) are presente…
Let $ (E,h) $ be a Griffiths semipositive Hermitian holomorphic vector bundle of rank $ 3 $ over a complex manifold. In this paper, we prove the positivity of the characteristic differential form $ c_1(E,h) \wedge c_2(E,h) - c_3(E,h) $, thus providing a new evidence towards a conjecture by Griffiths about the positivity of the Schur polynomials in the Chern forms of Griffiths semipositive vector bundles. As a consequence, we establish a new chain of inequalities between Chern forms. Moreover, we point out how to obtain the positivity of the second Chern form $ c_2(E,h) $ in any rank, starting …
Let $E$ be a holomorphic vector bundle over a compact Kähler manifold $(X,ω)$ with negative sectional curvature $sec\leq -K<0$, $Δ_{E}$ be the Chern connection on $E$. In this article we show that if $C:=|[Λ,iΘ(E)]|\leq c_{n}K$, then $(X,E)$ satisfy a family of Chern number inequalities. The main idea in our proof is study the $L^{2}$ $\bar{\partial}_{\tilde{E}}$-harmonic forms on lifting bundle $\tilde{E}$ over the universal covering space $\tilde{X}$. We also observe that there is a closely relationship between the eigenvalue of the Laplace-Beltrami operator $Δ_{\bar{\partial}_{\tilde{E}}}$ …
