This is a survey of the current state of the theory of $F$--(super)manifolds $(M,\circ)$, first defined in [HeMa] and further developed in [He], [Ma2], [Me1]. Here $\circ$ is an $\Cal{O}_M$--bilinear multiplication on the tangent sheaf $\Cal{T}_M$, satisfying an integrability condition. $F$--manifolds and compatible flat structures on them furnish a useful weakening of Dubrovin's Frobenius structure which naturally arises in the quantum $K$--theory, theory of extended moduli spaces, and unfolding spaces of singularities.
Let $X$ be a compact complex manifold, consider a small deformation $ϕ: \mathcal{X} \to B$ of $X$, the dimensions of the cohomology groups of tangent sheaf $H^q(X_t,\mathcal{T}_{X_t})$ may vary under this deformation. This paper will study such phenomenons by studying the obstructions to deform a class in $H^q(X,\mathcal{T}_X)$ with the parameter $t$ and get the formula for the obstructions.
The main goal of this paper is to prove the polystability of the logarithmic tangent sheaf $\mathscr T_X(-D)$ of a log canonical pair $(X,D)$ whose canonical bundle $K_X+D$ is ample, generalizing in a significant way a theorem of Enoki. We apply this result and the techniques involved in its proof to get a version of this theorem for stable varieties (the higher dimensional analogue of Deligne-Mumford's stable curves) and to prove the polystability with respect to any polarization of the tangent sheaf of a singular Calabi-Yau variety.
We study holomorphic foliations of aribitrary codimension in smooth complete toric varieties. We show that split foliations are stable if some good behaviour of their singular set is provided. As an application of these results, we exhibit irreducible components of the space of foliations that arise as pullbacks of some special T-invariant divisors.
In this paper, we will outline computations of quantum sheaf cohomology for deformations of tangent bundles of toric varieties, for those deformations describable as deformations of toric Euler sequences. Quantum sheaf cohomology is a heterotic analogue of quantum cohomology, a quantum deformation of the classical product on sheaf cohomology groups, that computes nonperturbative corrections to analogues of (27*)^3 couplings in heterotic string computations. Previous computations have relied on either physics-based GLSM techniques or computation-intensive brute-force Cech cohomology techniques.…
We show that the set of singular holomorphic foliations of the projective spaces with split tangent sheaf and with good singular set is open in the space of holomorphic foliations. As applications we present a generalization of a result by Camacho-Lins Neto about linear pull-back foliations, we give a criterium for the rigidity of $\mathcal L$-foliations of codimension $k \ge 2$ and prove a conjecture by Cerveau-Deserti about the rigidity of a codimension one $\mathcal L$-foliation of $\mathbb P^4$. These results allow us to exhibit some previously unknown irreducible components of the spaces …
Let $S$ be a smooth projective variety and $Δ$ a simple normal crossing $\mathbb{Q}$-divisor with coefficients in $(0,1]$. For any ample $\mathbb{Q}$-line bundle $L$ over $S$, we denote by $\mathscr{E}(L)$ the extension sheaf of the orbifold tangent sheaf $T_S(-\log(Δ))$ by the structure sheaf $\mathcal{O}_S$ with the extension class $c_1(L)$. We show the following two results: (i) If $-(K_S+Δ)$ is ample and $(S, Δ)$ is K-semistable, then for any $λ\in \mathbb{Q}_{>0}$, the extension sheaf $\mathscr{E}({λc_1(-(K_S+Δ))})$ is slope semistable with respect to $-(K_S+Δ)$; (ii) If $K_S+Δ\equiv 0$, …
In this paper we aim at the description of foliations having tangent sheaf $T\mathcal F$ with $c_1(T\mathcal F)=c_2(T\mathcal F)=0$ on non-uniruled projective manifolds. We prove that the universal covering of the ambient manifold splits as a product, and that the Zariski closure of a general leaf of $\mathcal F$ is an Abelian variety. It turns out that the analytic type of the Zariski closures of leaves may vary from leaf to leaf. We discuss how this variation is related to arithmetic properties of the tangent sheaf of the foliation.
Manifolds with a commutative and associative multiplication on the tangent bundle are called F-manifolds if a unit field exists and the multiplication satisfies a natural integrability condition. They are studied here. They are closely related to discriminants and Lagrange maps. Frobenius manifolds are F-manifolds. As an application a conjecture of Dubrovin on Frobenius manifolds and Coxeter groups is proved.
For a singular variety X, an essential step to determine its smoothability and study its deformations is the understanding of the tangent sheaf and of the sheaf T^1_X:=ext^1(Omega_X,O_X). A variety is semi-smooth if its singularities are étale locally the product of a double crossing point (uv=0) or a pinch point (u^2-v^2w=0) with affine space; equivalently, if it can be obtained by gluing a smooth variety along a smooth divisor via an involution with smooth quotient. Our main result is the explicit computation of the tangent sheaf and the sheaf T^1_X for a semi-smooth variety X in terms of th…
For a class of monadic deformations of the tangent bundles over nef-Fano smooth projective toric varieties, we study the correlators using quantum sheaf cohomology. We prove a summation formula for the correlators, confirming a conjecture by McOrist and Melnikov in physics literature. This generalizes the Szenes-Vergne proof of Toric Residue Mirror Conjecture for hypersurfaces.
We give a criterion for the projectivisation of a reflexive sheaf on a klt space to be induced by a projective representation of the fundamental group of the smooth locus. This criterion is then applied to give a characterisation of finite quotients of projective spaces and Abelian varieties by $\mathbb{Q}$-Chern class (in)equalities and a suitable stability condition. This stability condition is formulated in terms of a naturally defined extension of the tangent sheaf by the structure sheaf. We further examine cases in which this stability condition is satisfied, comparing it to K-semistabili…
For a $G$-variety $X$ with an open orbit, we define its boundary $\partial X$ as the complement of the open orbit. The action sheaf $S_X$ is the subsheaf of the tangent sheaf made of vector fields tangent to $\partial X$. We prove, for a large family of smooth spherical varieties, the vanishing of the cohomology groups $H^i(X,S_X)$ for $i>0$, extending results of F. Bien and M. Brion. We apply these results to study the local rigidity of the smooth projective varieties with Picard number one classified in a previous paper of the first author.
Let X be the quasi-projective symplectic surface that is given by the total space of the invertible sheaf O(-2) over the projective line. Let Hilb X be the family of Hilbert schemes of points on X. We give and prove a closed formula expressing any multiplicative characteristic class evaluated on the Hilb X in terms of the standard Fock space description of the cohomology of the Hilb X. As a side result, we also deduce a formula for the Chern character of the tangent bundles of the Hilb X. The results found here are another step towards a complete description of the tangent bundle of the Hilber…
By using the classification of Fano 3-folds we prove: Let $X$ be Fano 3-fold. Assume that the tangent bundle $T_X$ of $X$ is not stable (i.e. semi-stable or unstable). Then $b_2\geq 2$ and a relative tangent sheaf $T_{X/Y}$ of a contraction $f:X\longrightarrow Y$ of an extremal face on $X$ is a destabilising subsheaf of $T_X$.
We use the theory of twisted resolutions and twisted complexes to give a proof of Kontsevich's claim that Yoneda product corresponds to cup product in a canonical isomorphism from the Ext groups of the product space with coefficients in the diagonal sheaf to the cohomology with coefficients in exterior powers of the tangent sheaf.
We study the quantum sheaf cohomology of flag manifolds with deformations of the tangent bundle and use the ring structure to derive how the deformation transforms under the biholomorphic duality of flag manifolds. Realized as the OPE ring of A/2-twisted two-dimensional theories with (0,2) supersymmetry, quantum sheaf cohomology generalizes the notion of quantum cohomology. Complete descriptions of quantum sheaf cohomology have been obtained for abelian gauged linear sigma models (GLSMs) and for nonabelian GLSMs describing Grassmannians. In this paper we continue to explore the quantum sheaf c…
Let $X$ be a compact Kähler space with klt singularities and vanishing first Chern class. We prove the Bochner principle for holomorphic tensors on the smooth locus of $X$: any such tensor is parallel with respect to the singular Ricci-flat metrics. As a consequence, after a finite quasi-étale cover $X$ splits off a complex torus of the maximum possible dimension. We then proceed to decompose the tangent sheaf of $X$ according to its holonomy representation. In particular, we classify those $X$ which have strongly stable tangent sheaf: up to quasi-étale covers, these are either irreducible Cal…
A co-Higgs sheaf is a pair of a torsion-free coherent sheaf $\mathcal{E}$ and a global section of $\mathcal{E}nd(\mathcal{E})\otimes T_X$ with $T_X$ the tangent bundle. We construct $2$-nilpotent co-Higgs sheaves of rank two for some rational surfaces and of rank three for $\mathbb{P}^3$, using the Hartshorne-Serre correspondence. Then we investigate the non-existence, specially over projective spaces.
F-manifolds are complex manifolds with a multiplication with unit on the holomorphic tangent bundle with a certain integrability condition. Here the local classification of 3-dimensional F-manifolds with or without Euler fields is pursued.
The purpose of this paper is to translate positivity properties of the tangent bundle (and the anti-canonical bundle) of an algebraic manifold into existence and movability properties of rational curves and to investigate the impact on the global geometry of the manifold $X$. Among the results we prove are these: \quad If $X$ is a projective manifold, and ${\cal E} \subset T_X$ is an ample locally free sheaf with $n-2\ge rk {\cal E}\ge n$, then $X \simeq \EP_n$. \quad Let $X$ be a projective manifold. If $X$ is rationally connected, then there exists a free $T_X$-ample family of (rational) cur…
Let $X$ be a normal complex space such that the tangent sheaf $T_X$ is locally free and locally admits a basis consisting of pairwise commuting vector fields. Then $X$ is smooth.
In this paper we study the tangent spaces of the smooth nested Hilbert scheme $ Hil{n,n-1}$ of points in the plane, and give a general formula for computing the Euler characteristic of a $\TT^2$-equivariant locally free sheaf on $\Hil{n,n-1}$. Applying our result to a particular sheaf, we conjecture that the result is a polynomial in the variables $q$ and $t$ with non-negative integer coefficients . We call this conjecturally positive polynomial as \textsl{the nested $q,t$-Cat alan series}, for it has many conjectural properties similar to that of the $q,t $-Catalan series.
While the tangent space to an equisingular family of curves can be discribed by the sections of a twisted ideal sheaf, this is no longer true if we only prescribe the multiplicity which a singular point should have. However, it is still possible to compute the dimension of the tangent space with the aid of the equimulitplicity ideal. In this note we consider families L_m={(C,p) | mult_p(C)=m} with C in some linear system |L| on a smooth projective surface S and for a fixed positive integer m, and we compute the dimension of the tangent space to L_m at a point (C,p) depending on whether p is a …
Frobenius manifold structures on the spaces of abelian integrals were constructed by I. Krichever. We use D-modules, deformation theory, and homological algebra to give a coordinate-free description of these structures. It turns out that the tangent sheaf multiplication has a cohomological origin, while the Levi-Civita connection is related to 1-dimensional isomonodromic deformations.
A construction of the tangent dg Lie algebra of a sheaf of operad algebras on a site is presented. The requirements on the site are very mild; the requirements on the algebra are more substantial. A few applications including the description of deformatins of a scheme and equivariant deformations are considered. The construction is based upon a model structure on the category of presheaves which should be of an independent interest.
If V is a bundle of Tate vector spaces over a base B, its determinantal gerbe has a class C_1(V) in the second cohomology group of the sheaf of invertible functions which can be seen as the Deligne cohomology H^3(B, Z(2)). An example of such a "Tate bundle" can be obtained from a finite rank vector bundle E on the product of B and a punctured formal disk. Our main result identifies the corresponding C_1(V) with the cohomological direct image of ch_2(E), the second Chern character of E. It can be seen as a "local" version of the Riemann-Roch-Grothendieck theorem for a family of curves. This the…
The classical HKR-theorem gives an isomorphism of the n-th Hochschild cohomology of a smooth algebra and the n-th exterior power of its module of Kähler differentials. Here we generalize it for simplicial, graded and anticommutative objects in ``good pairs of categories''. We apply this generalization to complex spaces and noetherian schemes and deduce two decomposition theorems for their (relative) Hochschild cohomology (special cases of those were recently shown by Buchweitz-Flenner and Yekutieli). The first one shows that Hochschild cohomology contains tangent cohomology: $\HH^n(X/Y,\sM)=\c…
Let f: V --> U be a smooth non-isotrivial family of canonically polarized n-dimensional complex manifolds, where U is the complement of a normal crossing divisor S in a projective manifold Y. We show that some symmetric product of the sheaf of one-forms with logarithmic poles along S contains an invertible subsheaf of positive Kodaira dimension. As a corollary one finds that U can not be a complete intersection in the projective N space of codimension l < N/2, nor the complement of l general hyperplanes, for l < N. Moreover, as shown by S. Kovacs before, U can not be a projective manifold with…
We consider the actions of different groups G on the space M of m x n matrices with entries in the formal power series ring K[[x1,..., xs]], K an arbitrary field. G acts on M by analytic change of coordinates, combined with the multiplication by invertible matrices from the left, the right or from both sides, respectively. This includes right and contact equivalence of functions and mappings, resp. ideals. A is called finitely G-determined if any matrix B, with entries of A-B in <x1,...,xs>^k for some k, is contained in the G-orbit of A. The purpose of this paper is to present algorithms for c…
It is shown that every algebra over the chain operad of the little disks operad gives naturally rise to a Hertling-Manin's F-manifold, that is a smooth manifold equipped with an integrable graded commutative associative product on the tangent sheaf. In particular, moduli spaces of extended deformations of complex/symplectic structures are shown to have a canonical structure of F-manifold. With the help of the $G_\infty$-operad a strong homotopy version of the notion of F-manifold is constructed. Among natural examples of $F_\infty$-manifolds one finds formal manifolds associated with the Hochs…
The classical Beauville-Bogomolov Decomposition Theorem asserts that any compact Kähler manifold with numerically trivial canonical bundle admits an étale cover that decomposes into a product of a torus, and irreducible, simply-connected Calabi-Yau-- and holomorphic-symplectic manifolds. The decomposition of the simply-connected part corresponds to a decomposition of the tangent bundle into a direct sum whose summands are integrable and stable with respect to any polarisation. Building on recent extension theorems for differential forms on singular spaces, we prove an analogous decomposition t…
In the first section of this note we show that the Theorem 1.8.1 of Bayer--Manin ([BaMa]) can be strengthened in the following way: {\it if the even quantum cohomology of a projective algebraic manifold $V$ is generically semi--simple, then $V$ has no odd cohomology and is of Hodge--Tate type.} In particular, this addressess a question in [Ci]. In the second section, we prove that {\it an analytic (or formal) supermanifold $M$ with a given supercommutative associative $\Cal{O}_M$--bilinear multiplication on its tangent sheaf $\Cal{T}_M$ is an $F$--manifold in the sense of [HeMa], iff its spect…
We apply a definition of generalised super Calabi-Yau variety (SCY) to supermanifolds of complex dimension one. One of our results is that there are two SCY's having reduced manifold equal to $\mathbb{P}^1$, namely the projective super space $\mathbb{P}^{1|2} $ and the weighted projective super space $\mathbb{WP}^{1|1}_{(2)}$. Then we compute the corresponding sheaf cohomology of superforms, showing that the cohomology with picture number one is infinite dimensional, while the de Rham cohomology, which is what matters from a physical point of view, remains finite dimensional. Moreover, we prov…
