In the first section of this note we show that the Theorem 1.8.1 of Bayer--Manin ([BaMa]) can be strengthened in the following way: {\it if the even quantum cohomology of a projective algebraic manifold $V$ is generically semi--simple, then $V$ has no odd cohomology and is of Hodge--Tate type.} In particular, this addressess a question in [Ci].
In the second section, we prove that {\it an analytic (or formal) supermanifold $M$ with a given supercommutative associative $\Cal{O}_M$--bilinear multiplication on its tangent sheaf $\Cal{T}_M$ is an $F$--manifold in the sense of [HeMa], iff its spectral cover as an analytic subspace of the cotangent bundle $T^*_M$ is coisotropic of maximal dimension.} This answers a question of V. Ginzburg.
Finally, we discuss these results in the context of mirror symmetry and Landau--Ginzburg models for Fano varieties.
We give sufficient conditions for the semisimplicity of quantum cohomology of Fano varieties of Picard rank 1. We apply these techniques to prove new semisimplicity results for some Fano varieties of Picard rank 1 and large index. We also give examples of Fano varieties having a non semisimple small quantum cohomology but a semisimple big quantum cohomology.
We derive constraints on Lagrangian embeddings in completions of certain stable symplectic fillings with semisimple symplectic cohomologies. Manifolds with these properties can be constructed by generalizing the boundary connected sum operation to our setting, and are related to certain birational surgeries like blow-downs and flips. As a consequence, there are many non-toric (non-compact) monotone symplectic manifolds whose wrapped Fukaya categories are proper.
Regular semisimple Hessenberg varieties admit actions of associated Weyl groups on their cohomology space of each degree. In this paper, we consider the module structure of the cohomology spaces of regular semisimple Hessenberg varieties of type $A$. We define a subset of the Bialynicki-Birula basis of the cohomology space so that they become a module generator set of the cohomology module of each degree. We then use those generators to construct permutation submodules of the degree two cohomology module and show that they form a permutation module decomposition. Our construction is consistent…
Using results of Gathmann, we prove the following theorem: If a smooth projective variety X has generically semisimple (p,p)-quantum cohomology, then the same is true for the blow-up of X at any number of points. This a successful test for a modified version of Dubrovin's conjecture from the ICM 1998.
We introduce and study a superversion of Dubrovin's notion of semisimple Frobenius manifolds. We establish a correspondence between semisimple Frobenius (super)manifolds and special solutions to the (supersymmetric) Schlesinger equations. Finally, we calculate the Schlesinger initial conditions for solutions describing quantum cohomology of projective spaces.
For a connected semisimple group G over the field of real numbers R, using a method of Onishchik and Vinberg, we compute the first Galois cohomology set H^1(R,G) in terms of Kac labelings of the affine Dynkin diagram of G.
We describe the second cohomology of a regular semisimple Hessenberg variety by generators and relations explicitly in terms of GKM theory. The cohomology of a regular semisimple Hessenberg variety becomes a module of a symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_n$ by the dot action introduced by Tymoczko. As an application of our explicit description, we give a formula describing the isomorphism class of the second cohomology as an $\mathfrak{S}_n$-module. Our formula is not exactly the same as the known formula by Chow or Cho-Hong-Lee but they are equivalent. We also discuss its higher degree generalizat…
In this paper, we give a simple formula for the generating function of genus-2 Gromov-Witten invariants for manifolds with semisimple quantum cohomology, and use this formula to prove the genus-2 Virasoro conjecture for such manifolds.
Let G be a connected, compact, semisimple algebraic group over the field of real numbers R. Using Kac diagrams, we describe combinatorially the first Galois cohomology sets H^1(R,H) for all inner forms H of G. As examples, we compute explicitly H^1 for all real forms of the simply connected group of type E_7 (which has been known since 2013) and for all real forms of half-spin groups of type D_{2k} (which seems to be new).
We investigate the cohomology rings of regular semisimple Hessenberg varieties whose Hessenberg functions are of the form $h=(h(1),n\dots,n)$ in Lie type $A_{n-1}$. The main result of this paper gives an explicit presentation of the cohomology rings in terms of generators and their relations. Our presentation naturally specializes to Borel's presentation of the cohomology ring of the flag variety and it is compatible with the representation of the symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_n$ on the cohomology constructed by J. Tymoczko. As a corollary, we also give an explicit presentation of the $\mathfr…
This paper is devoted to the study of the quantum cohomology of coadjoint varieties of simple algebraic groups across all Dynkin types. We determine the non-semisimple factors of the small quantum cohomology ring and relate them to ADE-singularities. Moreover, we show that the big quantum cohomology of a coadjoint variety is always generically semisimple even though in most cases the small quantum cohomology is not.
For a $\mathbb P^1$-orbifold $\mathscr C$, we prove that its big quantum cohomology is generically semisimple. As a corollary, we verify a conjecture of Dubrovin for orbi-curves. We also show that the small quantum cohomology of $\mathscr C$ is generically semisimple iff $\mathscr C$ is Fano, i.e. it has positive orbifold Euler characteristic.
We show that the big quantum cohomology of the symplectic isotropic Grassmanian $IG(2,6)$ is generically semisimple, whereas its small quantum cohomology is known to be non-semisimple. This gives yet another case where Dubrovin's conjecture holds and stresses the need to consider the big quantum cohomology in its formulation.
For even dimensional smooth complete intersections, of dimension at least 4, of two quadric hypersurfaces in a projective space, we study the genus zero Gromov-Witten invariants by the monodromy group of its whole family. We compute the invariants of length 4 and show that, besides a special invariant, all genus zero Gromov-Witten invariants can be reconstructed from the invariants of length 4. In dimension 4, we compute the special invariant by solving a curve counting problem. We show that the generating function of genus zero Gromov-Witten invariants has a positive radius of convergence. We…
Motivated by a 1993 conjecture of Stanley and Stembridge, Shareshian and Wachs conjectured that the characteristic map takes the dot action of the symmetric group on the cohomology of a regular semisimple Hessenberg variety to $ωX_G(t)$, where $X_G(t)$ is the chromatic quasisymmetric function of the incomparability graph $G$ of the corresponding natural unit interval order, and $ω$ is the usual involution on symmetric functions. We prove the Shareshian--Wachs conjecture. Our proof uses the local invariant cycle theorem of Beilinson-Bernstein-Deligne to obtain a surjection from the cohomology o…
Recent work of Shareshian and Wachs, Brosnan and Chow, and Guay-Paquet connects the well-known Stanley-Stembridge conjecture in combinatorics to the dot action of the symmetric group $S_n$ on the cohomology rings $H^*(Hess(S,h))$ of regular semisimple Hessenberg varieties. In particular, in order to prove the Stanley-Stembridge conjecture, it suffices to construct (for any Hessenberg function $h$) a permutation basis of $H^*(Hess(S,h))$ whose elements have stabilizers isomorphic to Young subgroups. In this manuscript we give several results which contribute toward this goal. Specifically, in s…
For complex parallelisable manifolds $Γ\backslash G$, with $G$ a solvable or semisimple complex Lie group, the Frölicher spectral sequence degenerates at the second page. In the solvable case, the de-Rham cohomology carries a pure Hodge structure. In contrast, in the semisimple case, purity depends on the lattice, but there is always a direct summand of the de Rham cohomology which does carry a pure Hodge structure and is independent of the lattice.
We consider bases for the cohomology space of regular semisimple Hessenberg varieties, consisting of the classes that naturally arise from the Bialynicki-Birula decomposition of the Hessenberg varieties. We give an explicit combinatorial description of the support of each class, which enables us to compute the symmetric group actions on the classes in our bases. We then successfully apply the results to the permutohedral varieties to explicitly write down each class and to construct permutation submodules that constitute summands of a decomposition of cohomology space of each degree. This reso…

The paper is dedicated to the study of algebraic manifolds whose quantum cohomology or a part of it is a semisimple Frobenius manifold. Theorem 1.8.1 says, roughly speaking, that the sum of $(p,p)$--cohomology spaces is a maximal Frobenius submanifold that has chances to be semisimple. Theorem 1.8.3 provides a version of the Reconstruction theorem, assuming semisimplicity but not $H^2$--generation. Theorem 3.6.1 establishes the semisimplicity for all del Pezzo surfaces, providing an evidence for the conjecture that semisimplicity is related to the existence of a full system of exceptional shea…
The Gamma conjecture II for the quantum cohomology of a Fano manifold $F$, proposed by Galkin, Golyshev and Iritani, describes the asymptotic behavior of the flat sections of the Dubrovin connection near the irregular singularities, in terms of a full exceptional collection, if there exists, of $\mathcal D^b(F)$ and the $\widehatΓ$-integral structure. In this paper, for the smooth quadric hypersurfaces we prove the convergence of the full quantum cohomology and the Gamma conjecture II. For the proof, we first give a criterion on Gamma II for Fano manifolds with semisimple quantum cohomology, b…
The solution of Shareshian-Wachs conjecture by Brosnan-Chow linked together the cohomology of regular semisimple Hessenberg varieties and graded chromatic symmetric functions on unit interval graphs. On the other hand, it is known that unicellular LLT polynomials have similar properties to graded chromatic symmetric functions. In this paper, we link together the unicellular LLT polynomials and twin of regular semisimple Hessenberg varieties introduced by Ayzenberg-Buchstaber. We prove their palindromicity from topological viewpoint. We also show that modules of a symmetric group generated by f…
We prove that the quantum cohomology ring of any minuscule or cominuscule homogeneous space, specialized at q=1, is semisimple. This implies that complex conjugation defines an algebra automorphism of the quantum cohomology ring localized at the quantum parameter. We check that this involution coincides with the strange duality defined in a previous paper. We deduce Vafa-Intriligator type formulas for the Gromov-Witten invariants.
Given a complex projective algebraic variety, write H(X) for its cohomology with complex coefficients and IH(X) for its Intersection cohomology. We first show that, under some fairly general conditions, the canonical map H(X)\to IH(X) is injective. Now let Gr = G((z))/G[[z]] be the loop Grassmannian for a complex semisimple group G, and let X be the closure of a G[[z]]-orbit in Gr. We prove, using the general result above, a conjecture of D. Peterson describing the cohomology algebra H(X) in terms of the centralizer of the principal nilpotent in the Langlands dual of Lie(G). In the last sectio…
We compute the small cohomology ring of the Cayley Grassmannian, that parametrizes four-dimensional subalgebras of the complexified octonions. We show that all the Gromov-Witten invariants in the multiplication table of the Schubert classes are non negative and deduce Golyshev's conjecture O holds true for this variety. We also check that the quantum cohomology is semisimple and that there exists, as predicted by Dubrovin's conjecture, an exceptional collection of maximal length in the derived category.
Let $G$ be a semisimple algebraic group and $B$ a Borel subgroup. We consider generalisations of Lusztig's q-analogues of weight multiplicity, where the set of positive roots is replaced with the multiset of weights of a $B$-submodule of an arbitrary finite-dimensional $G$-module.
We extend the analytic theory of Frobenius manifolds to semisimple points with coalescing eigenvalues of the operator of multiplication by the Euler vector field. We clarify which freedoms, ambiguities and mutual constraints are allowed in the definition of monodromy data, in view of their importance for conjectural relationships between Frobenius manifolds and derived categories. Detailed examples and applications are taken from singularity and quantum cohomology theories. We explicitly compute the monodromy data at points of the Maxwell Stratum of the A3-Frobenius manifold, as well as at the…
Let G denote a complex, semisimple, simply-connected group. We identify the equivariant quantum differential equation for the cotangent bundle to the flag variety of G with the affine Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov connection of Cherednik and Matsuo. This recovers Kim's description of quantum cohomology of the flag variety itself as a limiting case. A parallel result is proven for resolutions of the Slodowy slices. Extension to arbitrary symplectic resolutions is discussed.
Let G --> G' be an embedding of semisimple complex Lie groups, let B and B' be a pair of nested Borel subgroups, and let f:G/B --> G'/B' be the associated equivariant embedding of flag manifolds. We study the pullbacks of cohomologies of invertible sheaves on G'/B' along the embedding f. Let O' be a G'-equivariant invertible sheaf on G'/B', and let O be its restriction to G/B. Consider the G-equivariant pullback on cohomology p : H(G'/B',O') --> H(G/B,O). The Borel-Weil-Bott theorem implies that the two cohomology spaces above are irreducible modules of G' and G respectively. By Schur's lemma,…
Let $G$ denote a complex semisimple linear algebraic group, $P$ a parabolic subgroup of $G$ and $\mathcal{P}=G/P$. We identify the quantum multiplication by divisors in $T^*\mathcal{P}$ in terms of stable basis, which is introduced by Maulik and Okounkov. Using this and the restriction formula for stable basis, we show that the $G\times\mathbb{C}^*$-equivariant quantum multiplication formula in $T^*\mathcal{P}$ is conjugate to the conjectured formula by Braverman.
For an arbitrary Frobenius manifold a system of Virasoro constraints is constructed. In the semisimple case these constraints are proved to hold true in the genus one approximation. Particularly, the genus $\leq 1$ Virasoro conjecture of T.Eguchi, K.Hori, M.Jinzenji, and C.-S.Xiong and of S.Katz is proved for smooth projective varieties having semisimple quantum cohomology.

Let G be a connected semisimple complex algebraic group and let P be a parabolic subgroup. In this paper we define a new (commutative and associative) product on the cohomology of the homogenous spaces G/P and use this to give a more efficient solution of the eigenvalue problem and also for the problem of determining the existence of G-invariants in the tensor product of irreducible representations of G. On the other hand, we show that this new product is intimately connected with the Lie algebra cohomology of the nil-radical of P via some works of Kostant and Kumar. We also initiate a uniform…
The Poincare duality of classical cohomology and the extension of this duality to quantum cohomology endows these rings with the structure of a Frobenius algebra. Any such algebra possesses a canonical ``characteristic element;'' in the classical case this is the Euler class, and in the quantum case this is a deformation of the classical Euler class which we call the ``quantum Euler class.'' We prove that the characteristic element of a Frobenius algebra A is a unit if and only if A is semisimple, and then apply this result to the cases of the quantum cohomology of the finite complex Grassmann…
We construct a concrete isomorphism from the permutohedral variety to the regular semisimple Hessenberg variety associated to the Hessenberg function $h_+(i)=i+1$, $1\le i\le n-1$. In the process of defining the isomorphism, we introduce a sequence of varieties which we call the prepermutohedral varieties. We first determine the toric structure of these varieties and compute the Euler characteristics and the Betti numbers using the theory of toric varieties. Then, we describe the cohomology of these varieties. We also find a natural way to encode the one-dimensional components of the cohomolog…
We propose Gamma Conjectures for Fano manifolds which can be thought of as a square root of the index theorem. Studying the exponential asymptotics of solutions to the quantum differential equation, we associate a principal asymptotic class A_F to a Fano manifold F. We say that F satisfies Gamma Conjecture I if A_F equals the Gamma class G_F. When the quantum cohomology of F is semisimple, we say that F satisfies Gamma Conjecture II if the columns of the central connection matrix of the quantum cohomology are formed by G_F Ch(E_i) for an exceptional collection {E_i} in the derived category of …
