We study the stability of singular points for smooth Poisson structures as well as general Lie algebroids. We give sufficient conditions for stability lying on the first (not necessarily linear) approximation of the given Poisson structure or Lie algebroid at a singular point. The main tools used here are the classical Lichnerowicz-Poisson cohomology and the deformation cohomology for Lie algebroids recently introduced by Crainic and Moerdijk. We also provide several examples of stable singular points of order $k \geq 1$ for Poisson structures and Lie algebroids. Finally, we apply our results to pre-symplectic leaves of Dirac manifolds.
In this paper, we develop the theory of Hom-Lie algebroids, Hom-Lie bialgebroids and Hom-Courant algebroids introduced by Cai, Liu and Sheng. Specifically, we introduce the notions of Hom-Poisson, Hom-Nijenhuis and Hom-Poisson-Nijenhuis structures on a Hom-Lie algebroid and the notion of Hom-Dirac structures on a Hom-Courant algebroid. We show that these structures satisfy similar properties to structures non "Hom-"version. For example, there exists the hierarchy of a Hom-Poisson-Nijenhuis structure and we have a relation between Hom-Dirac structures and Maurer-Cartan type equation. Moreover w…
We propose a definition of Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis Lie algebroids as a natural generalization of Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis manifolds and show that any such Lie algebroid has an associated quasi-Lie bialgebroid. Therefore, also an associated Courant algebroid is obtained. We introduce the notion of a morphism of quasi-Lie bialgebroids and of the induced Courant algebroids morphism and provide some examples of Courant algebroid morphisms. Finally, we use paired operators to deform doubles of Lie and quasi-Lie bialgebroids and find an application to generalized complex geometry.
This article addresses the problem of developing an extension of the Marsden- Weinstein reduction process to symplectic Lie algebroids, and in particular to the case of the symplectic cover of a fiberwise linear Poisson structure, whose reduction process is the analogue to cotangent bundle reduction in the context of Lie algebroids.
Several types of generically-nondegenerate Poisson structures can be effectively studied as symplectic structures on naturally associated Lie algebroids. Relevant examples of this phenomenon include log-, elliptic, $b^k$-, scattering and elliptic-log Poisson structures. In this paper we discuss topological obstructions to the existence of such Poisson structures, obtained through the characteristic classes of their associated symplectic Lie algebroids. In particular we obtain the full obstructions for surfaces to carry such Poisson structures.

We show how to reduce, under certain regularities conditions, a Poisson-Nijenhuis Lie algebroid to a symplectic-Nijenhuis Lie algebroid with nondegenerate Nijenhuis tensor. We generalize the work done by Magri and Morosi for the reduction of Poisson-Nijenhuis manifolds. The choice of the more general framework of Lie algebroids is motivated by the geometrical study of some reduced bi-Hamiltonian systems. An explicit example of reduction of a Poisson-Nijenhuis Lie algebroid is also provided.
Poisson structures of divisor-type are those whose degeneracy can be captured by a divisor ideal, which is a locally principal ideal sheaf with nowhere-dense quotient support. This is a large class of Poisson structures which includes all generically-nondegenerate Poisson structures, such as log-, $b^k$-, elliptic, elliptic-log, and scattering Poisson structures. Divisor ideals are used to define almost-injective Lie algebroids of derivations preserving them, to which these Poisson structures can be lifted, often nondegenerately so. The resulting symplectic Lie algebroids can be studied using …
This paper provides an alternative, much simpler, definition for Li-Bland's LA-Courant algebroids, or Poisson Lie 2-algebroids, in terms of split Lie 2-algebroids and self-dual 2-representations. This definition generalises in a precise sense the characterisation of (decomposed) double Lie algebroids via matched pairs of 2-representations. We use the known geometric examples of LA-Courant algebroids in order to provide new examples of Poisson Lie 2-algebroids, and we explain in this general context Roytenberg's equivalence of Courant algebroids with symplectic Lie 2-algebroids. We study furthe…
We show that the path construction integration of Lie algebroids by Lie groupoids is an actual equivalence from the category of integrable Lie algebroids and complete Lie algebroid comorphisms to the category of source 1-connected Lie groupoids and Lie groupoid comorphisms. This allows us to construct an actual symplectization functor in Poisson geometry. We include examples to show that the integrability of comorphisms and Poisson maps may not hold in the absence of a completeness assumption.
We study the relative modular classes of Lie algebroids, and we determine their relationship with the modular classes of Lie algebroids with a twisted Poisson structure.
The aim of this paper is to present the stochastic Poisson equations associated to Lie algebroids. The stochastic Poisson equations associated to a refinement of a concrete principal bundle are determined.
Jacobi-Nijenhuis algebroids are defined as a natural generalization of Poisson-Nijenhuis algebroids, in the case where there exists a Nijenhuis operator on a Jacobi algebroid which is compatible with it. We study modular classes of Jacobi and Jacobi-Nijenhuis algebroids.
We introduce and study a class of Lie algebroids associated to faithful modules which is motivated by the notion of cotangent Lie algebroids of Poisson manifolds. We also give a classification of transitive Lie algebroids and describe Poisson algebras by using the notions of algebroid and Lie connections.
We use a generalized Ricci tensor, defined for generalized metrics in Courant algebroids, to show that Poisson-Lie T-duality is compatible with the 1-loop renormalization group.
We show how to extend the construction of Tulczyjew triples to Lie algebroids via graded manifolds. We also provide a generalisation of triangular Lie bialgebroids as higher Poisson and Schouten structures on Lie algebroids.
In this paper, we construct a homotopy Poisson algebra of degree 3 associated to a split Lie 2-algebroid, by which we give a new approach to characterize a split Lie 2-bialgebroid. We develop the differential calculus associated to a split Lie 2-algebroid and establish the Manin triple theory for split Lie 2-algebroids. More precisely, we give the notion of a strict Dirac structure and define a Manin triple for split Lie 2-algebroids to be a CLWX 2-algebroid with two transversal strict Dirac structures. We show that there is a one-to-one correspondence between Manin triples for split Lie 2-alg…
We define hom-Lie algebroids, a definition that may seem cumbersome at first, but which is justified, first, by a one-to-one corespondence with hom-Gerstenhaber algebras, a notion that we also introduce, and several examples, including hom-Poisson structures.
We deal with smooth real manifolds as well as complex analytic manifolds as well. It is well known that the concept of star product is powerful enough to produce all Poisson structures on real manifolds. According to [BdM] it is not known whether holomorphic star products exist on complex analytic manifolds. The main purpose of this paper is to show that the concept of homology of Koszul-Vinberg algebroids on smooth (resp. complex analytic) manifolds is an effective tool to produce smooth (resp complex analytic) Poisson structures on smooth (resp. complex analytic) manifolds. We also study som…
We discuss relations between linear Nambu-Poisson structures and Filippov algebras and define Filippov algebroids which are n-ary generalizations of Lie algebroids. We also prove results describing multiplicative Nambu- Poisson structures on Lie groups. In particular, we show that simple Lie groups do not admit multiplicative Nambu-Poisson structures of order n>2.
In this thesis we study geometric structures from Poisson and generalized complex geometry with mild singular behavior using Lie algebroids. The process of lifting such structures to their Lie algebroid version makes them less singular, as their singular behavior is incorporated in the anchor of the Lie algebroid. We develop a framework for this using the concept of a divisor, which encodes the singularities, and show when structures exhibiting such singularities can be lifted to a Lie algebroid built out of the divisor. Once one has successfully lifted the structure, it becomes possible to st…
Groupoids are mathematical structures able to describe symmetry properties more general than those described by groups. They were introduced (and named) by H. Brandt in 1926. Around 1950, Charles Ehresmann used groupoids with additional structures (topological and differentiable) as essential tools in topology and differential geometry. In recent years, Mickael Karasev, Alan Weinstein and Stanisław Zakrzewski independently discovered that symplectic groupoids can be used for the construction of noncommutative deformations of the algebra of smooth functions on a manifold, with potential applica…
We extend to the context of Courant algebroids several hierarchies that can be constructed on Poisson-Nijenhuis manifolds. More precisely, we introduce several notions (Poisson-Nijenhuis, deformation-Nijenhuis and Nijenhuis pairs) that extend to Courant algebroids the notion of a Poisson-Nijenhuis manifold, by using the idea that both the Poisson and the Nijenhuis structures, although they seem to be different in nature when considered on manifolds, are just $(1,1)$-tensors on the usual Courant algebroid $TM \oplus T^*M $ satisfying several constraints. For each of the generalizations mentione…
The modular vector field of a Poisson-Nijenhuis Lie algebroid $A$ is defined and we prove that, in case of non-degeneracy, this vector field defines a hierarchy of bi-Hamiltonian $A$-vector fields. This hierarchy covers an integrable hierarchy on the base manifold, which may not have a Poisson-Nijenhuis structure.
A Lie algebroid over a manifold is a vector bundle over that manifold whose properties are very similar to those of a tangent bundle. Its dual bundle has properties very similar to those of a cotangent bundle: in the graded algebra of sections of its external powers, one can define an operator similar to the exterior derivative. We present in this paper the theory of Lie derivatives, Schouten-Nijenhuis brackets and exterior derivatives in the general setting of a Lie algebroid, its dual bundle and their exterior powers. All the results (which, for their most part, are already known) are given …
Poisson actions of Poisson Lie groups have an interesting and rich geometric structure. We will generalize some of this structure to Dirac actions of Dirac Lie groups. Among other things, we extend a result of Jiang-Hua-Lu, which states that the cotangent Lie algebroid and the action algebroid for a Poisson action form a matched pair. We also give a full classification of Dirac actions for which the base manifold is a homogeneous space $H/K$, obtaining a generalization of Drinfeld's classification for the Poisson Lie group case.
Given a manifold M with an action of a quadratic Lie algebra d, such that all stabilizer algebras are co-isotropic in d, we show that the product M\times d becomes a Courant algebroid over M. If the bilinear form on d is split, the choice of transverse Lagrangian subspaces g_1, g_2 of d defines a bivector field on M, which is Poisson if (d,g_1,g_2) is a Manin triple. In this way, we recover the Poisson structures of Lu-Yakimov, and in particular the Evens-Lu Poisson structures on the variety of Lagrangian Grassmannians and on the de Concini-Procesi compactifications. Various Poisson maps betwe…
We define the Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis structures with background on Lie algebroids and we prove that to any generalized complex structure on a Courant algebroid which is the double of a Lie algebroid is associated such a structure. We prove that any Lie algebroid with a Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis structure with background constitutes, with its dual, a quasi-Lie bialgebroid. We also prove that any pair $(π,ω)$ of a Poisson bivector and a 2-form induces a Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis structure with background and we observe that particular cases correspond to already known compatibilities between $π$ an…
This work is motivated by a result of Drinfeld on Poisson homogeneous spaces. For each Poisson manifold $P$ with a Poisson action by a Poisson Lie group $G$, we describe a Lie algebroid structure on the direct sum vector bundle $P \times {\frak g} \oplus T^*P$, where ${\frak g}$ is the Lie algebra of $G$. It is built out of the transformation Lie algebroid $P \times {\frak g}$ and the cotangent bundle Lie algebroid $T^*P$ together with a pair of representations of them on each other. When the action of $G$ on $P$ is transitive, the kernel of the anchor map of this Lie algebroid gives a Lie alg…
We introduce the notion of G-algebroid, generalising both Lie and Courant algebroids, as well as the algebroids used in $E_{n(n)}\times\mathbb{R}^+$ exceptional generalised geometry for $n\in\{3,\dots,6\}$. Focusing on the exceptional case, we prove a classification of "exact" algebroids and translate the related classification of Leibniz parallelisable spaces into a tractable algebraic problem. After discussing the general notion of Poisson-Lie duality, we show that the Poisson-Lie U-duality is compatible with the equations of motion of supergravity.
We study holomorphic Poisson manifolds and holomorphic Lie algebroids from the viewpoint of real Poisson geometry. We give a characterization of holomorphic Poisson structures in terms of the Poisson Nijenhuis structures of Magri-Morosi and describe a double complex which computes the holomorphic Poisson cohomology. A holomorphic Lie algebroid structure on a vector bundle $A\to X$ is shown to be equivalent to a matched pair of complex Lie algebroids $(T^{0,1}X,A^{1,0})$, in the sense of Lu. The holomorphic Lie algebroid cohomology of $A$ is isomorphic to the cohomology of the elliptic Lie alge…
We show that one can skip the skew-symmetry assumption in the definition of Nambu-Poisson brackets. In other words, a n-ary bracket on the algebra of smooth functions which satisfies the Leibniz rule and a n-ary version of the Jacobi identity must be skew-symmetric. A similar result holds for a non-antisymmetric version of Lie algebroids.
We study pairs of structures, such as the Poisson-Nijenhuis structures, on the tangent bundle of a manifold or, more generally, on a Lie algebroid or a Courant algebroid. These composite structures are defined by two of the following, a closed 2-form, a Poisson bivector or a Nijenhuis tensor, with suitable compatibility assumptions. We establish the relationships between such composite structures. We then show that the non-degenerate Monge-Ampère structures on 2-dimensional manifolds satisfying an integrability condition provide numerous examples of such structures, while in the case of 3-dime…
We begin with a short presentation of the basic concepts related to Lie groupoids and Lie algebroids, but the main part of this paper deals with Lie algebroids. We present the theory of Lie derivatives, Schouten-Nijenhuis brackets and exterior derivatives in the genera…
We show that $L_{\infty}$-algebroids, understood in terms of Q-manifolds can be described in terms of certain higher Schouten and Poisson structures on graded (super)manifolds. This generalises known constructions for Lie (super)algebras and Lie algebroids.
In this paper, we investigate families of singular holomorphic Lie algebroids on complex analytic spaces. We introduce and study a special type of deformation called unfoldings of Lie algebroids, which generalizes the theory of singular holomorphic foliations developed by T. Suwa. We show that a one to one correspondence between transversal unfoldings and holomorphic flat connections on a natural Lie algebroid on the bases exists.
We construct the family of algebroid brackets $[\cdot,\cdot]_{c,v}$ on the tangent bundle $T^*M$ to a Poisson manifold $(M,π)$ starting from an algebroid bracket of differential forms. We use these brackets to generate Poisson structures on the tangent bundle $TM$. Next, in the case when $M$ is equipped with a bi-Hamiltonian structure $(M,π_1, π_2)$ we show how to construct another family of Poisson structures. Moreover we present how to find Casimir functions for those structures and we discuss some particular examples.
We define hypersymplectic structures on Lie algebroids recovering, as particular cases, all the classical results and examples of hypersymplectic structures on manifolds. We prove a 1-1 correspondence theorem between hypersymplectic structures and (pseudo-)hyperkähler structures. We show that the hypersymplectic framework is very rich in already known compatible pairs of tensors such as Poisson-Nijenhuis, $ΩN$ and $P Ω$ structures.
In this thesis we develop the notion of LA-Courant algebroids, the infinitesimal analogue of multiplicative Courant algebroids. Specific applications include the integration of q- Poisson (d, g)-structures, and the reduction of Courant algebroids. We also introduce the notion of pseudo-Dirac structures, (possibly non-Lagrangian) subbundles W \subseteq E of a Courant algebroid such that the Courant bracket endows W naturally with the structure of a Lie algebroid. Specific examples of pseudo-Dirac structures arise in the theory of q-Poisson (d, g)-structures.
We study Maurer-Cartan elements on homotopy Poisson manifolds of degree $n$. They unify many twisted or homotopy structures in Poisson geometry and mathematical physics, such as twisted Poisson manifolds, quasi-Poisson $\g$-manifolds, and twisted Courant algebroids. Using the fact that the dual of an $n$-term $L_\infty$-algebra is a homotopy Poisson manifold of degree $n-1$, we obtain a Courant algebroid from a $2$-term $L_\infty$-algebra $\g$ via the degree $2$ symplectic NQ-manifold $T^*[2]\g^*[1]$. By integrating the Lie quasi-bialgebroid associated to the Courant algebroid, we obtain a Lie…
We identify the cotangent bundle Lie algebroid of a Poisson homogeneous space G/H of a Poisson Lie group G as a quotient of a transformation Lie algebroid over G. As applications, we describe the modular vector fields of G/H, and we identify the Poisson cohomology of G/H with coefficients in powers of its canonical line bundle with relative Lie algebra cohomology of the Drinfeld Lie algebra associated to G/H. We also construct a Poisson groupoid over G/H which is symplectic near the identity section. This note serves as preparation for forthcoming papers, in which we will compute explicitly th…
In this dissertation we study Courant algebroids, objects that first appeared in the work of T. Courant on Dirac structures; they were later studied by Liu, Weinstein and Xu who used Courant algebroids to generalize the notion of the Drinfeld double to Lie bialgebroids. As a first step towards understanding the complicated properties of Courant algebroids, we interpret them by associating to each Courant algebroid a strongly homotopy Lie algebra in a natural way. Next, we propose an alternative construction of the double of a Lie bialgebroid as a homological hamiltonian vector field on an even…
A general form for the boundary coupling of a Lie algebroid Poisson sigma model is proposed. The approach involves using the Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism in the AKSZ geometrical version, to write a BRST-invariant coupling for a representation up to homotopy of the target Lie algebroid or its subalgebroids. These considerations lead to a conjectural description of topological D-branes on generalized complex manifolds, which includes A-branes and B-branes as special cases.
We reexamine the notions of generalized Ricci tensor and scalar curvature on a general Courant algebroid, reformulate them using objects natural w.r.t. pull-backs and reductions, and obtain them from the variation of a natural action functional. This allows us to prove, in a very general setup, the compatibility of the Poisson-Lie T-duality with the renormalization group flow and with string background equations. We thus extend the known results to a much wider class of dualities, including the cases with gauging (so called dressing cosets, or equivariant Poisson-Lie T-duality). As an illustra…
The canonical involution of a double (=iterated) tangent bundle may be dualized in different ways to yield relations between the Tulczyjew diffeomorphism, the Poisson anchor associated with the standard symplectic structure on the cotangent space, and the reversal diffeomorphism. We show that the constructions which yield these maps extend very generally to the double Lie algebroids of double Lie groupoids, where they play a crucial role in the relations between double Lie algebroids and Lie bialgebroids.
We survey the many instances of derived bracket construction in differential geometry, Lie algebroid and Courant algebroid theories, and their properties. We recall and compare the constructions of Buttin and Vinogradov, and we prove that the Vinogradov bracket is the skew-symmetrization of a derived bracket. Odd (resp., even) Poisson brackets on supermanifolds are derived brackets of canonical even (resp., odd) Poisson brackets on their cotangent bundle (resp., parity-reversed cotangent bundle). Lie algebras have analogous properties, and the theory of Lie algebroids unifies the results valid…
This paper shows the equivalence of the categories of $N$-manifolds of degree $2$ with the category of double vector bundles endowed with a linear metric. Split Poisson $N$-manifolds of degree $2$ are shown to be equivalent to self-dual representations up to homotopy. As a consequence, the equivalence above induces an equivalence between so called metric VB-algebroids and Poisson $N$-manifolds of degree $2$. Then a new description of split Lie $2$-algebroids is given, as well as their "duals", the Dorfman $2$-representations. We show that Dorfman $2$-representations are equivalent in a simple …
In this paper, we will study compatible triples on Lie algebroids. Using a suitable decomposition for a Lie algebroid, we construct an integrable generalized distribution on the base manifold. As a result, the symplectic form on the Lie algebroid induces a symplectic form on each integral submanifold of the distribution. The induced Poisson structure on the base manifold can be represented by means of the induced Poisson structures on the integral submanifolds. Moreover, for any compatible triple with invariant metric and admissible almost complex structure, we show that the bracket annihilate…
Starting from a Lie algebroid ${\cal A}$ over a space V we lift its action to the canonical transformations on the principle affine bundle ${\cal R}$ over the cotangent bundle $T^*V$. Such lifts are classified by the first cohomology $H^1({\cal A})$. The resulting object is the Hamiltonian algebroid ${\cal A}^H$ over ${\cal R}$ with the anchor map from $\G({\cal A}^H)$ to Hamiltonians of canonical transformations. Hamiltonian algebroids generalize the Lie algebras of canonical transformations. We prove that the BRST operator for ${\cal A}^H$ is cubic in the ghost fields as in the Lie algebra c…
In the first section we discuss Morita invariance of differentiable/algebroid cohomology. In the second section we present an extension of the van Est isomorphism to groupoids. This immediately implies a version of Haefliger's conjecture for differentiable cohomology. As a first application we clarify the connection between differentiable and algebroid cohomology (proved in degree 1, and conjectured in degree 2 by Weinstein-Xu). As a second application we extend van Est's argument for the integrability of Lie algebras. Applied to Poisson manifolds, this immediately gives (a slight improvement …
