In this paper, we obtain the ladder operators and associated compatibility conditions for the type I and the type II multiple orthogonal polynomials. The biorthogonal polynomials are connected with certain mixed type Hermite-Padé polynomials, which verify full orthogonality relations with respect to some varying measures. Given $\{P_n \}$ a sequence of monic orthogonal polynomials, we analyze their linear combinations $\{Q_n \}$with constant coefficients and fixed length $k+1$. Necessary and sufficient conditions are given for the orthogonality of the monic sequence $\{Q_n \}$ as well as an interesting interpretation in terms of the Jacobi matrices associated with $\{P_n \}$ and $\{Q_n \}$. Using continued fraction expansions of certain polygamma functions as a main tool, we find orthogonal polynomials with respect to the odd-index Bernoulli polynomials $B_{2k+1}(x)$ and the Euler polynomials $E_{2k+ν}(x)$, for $ν=0, 1, 2$. In the process we also determine the corresponding Jacobi continued fractions (or J-fractions) and Hankel determinants. In all these cases the Hankel determinants are polynomials in $x$ which factor completely over the rationals.

It is well known that the zeros of orthogonal polynomials interlace. In this paper we study the case of multiple orthogonal polynomials. We recall known results and some recursion relations for multiple orthogonal polynomials. Our main result gives a sufficient condition, based on the coefficients in the recurrence relations, for the interlacing of the zeros of neighboring multiple orthogonal polynomials. The purpose of this work is to analyse a family of mutually orthogonal polynomials on the unit ball with respect to an inner product which includes an additional term on the sphere. First, we will get connection formulas relating classical multivariate orthogonal polynomials on the ball with our family of orthogonal polynomials. Then, using the representation of these polynomials in terms of spherical harmonics, algebraic and differential properties will be deduced.

We develop a theory of Sobolev orthogonal polynomials on the Sierpiński gasket ($SG$). These orthogonal polynomials arise through the Gram-Schmidt orthogonalisation process applied on the set of monomials on $SG$ using several notions of a Sobolev inner products. After establishing some recurrence relations for these orthogonal polynomials, we give estimates for their $L^2$, $L^\infty$ and Sobolev norms, and study their asymptotic behaviour.
