Let x be a CM point on a modular or Shimura curve and p a prime of good reduction, split in the CM field K. We define an expansion of an holomorphic modular form f in the p-adic neighborhood of x and show that the expansion coefficients give information on the p-adic ring of definition of f. Also, we show that letting x vary in its Galois orbit, the expansions coefficients allow to construct a p-adic measure whose moments squared are essentially the values at the centre of symmetry of L-functions of the automorphic representation attached to f based-changed to K and twisted by a suitable family of Grossencharakters for K.
We construct a meromorphic function on the eigencurve that interpolates a square root of the ratio of the central values of two quadratic twists of the $L$-function at classical points.
Extending work of J. Raleigh, we compute polynomials $P_{n,F}(x)$ associated to certain families $F = \{f_m\}_{m = 3, 4, ...}$ of modular forms for Hecke groups $G(λ_m)$ with the property that $P_{n,F}(m)$ is the $n^{th}$ coefficient in the Fourier expansion of $f_m$. We express the $P_{n,F}$ in terms of the Fourier expansions of well-known Hauptmoduln, or in terms of certain divisor-sums. By studying the complex roots of the $P_n$, we relate them to Lehmer's question about Ramanujan's tau function. We review the theory of triangle functions and Hecke's theory of modular forms in order to esta…
We compute the Archimedean doubling zeta integrals which appear in the interpolation formulas for the p-adic L-functions of Siegel modular forms, and verify that they agree with the modified Archimedean Euler factors for p-adic interpolation conjectured by Coates--Perrin-Riou.
Let $f$ be a newform of even weight $2κ$ for $D^\times$, where $D$ is a possibly split indefinite quaternion algebra over $\mathbb{Q}$. Let $K$ be a quadratic imaginary field splitting $D$ and $p$ an odd prime split in $K$. We extend our theory of $p$-adic measures attached to the power series expansions of $f$ around the Galois orbit of the CM point corresponding to an embedding $K\hookrightarrow D$ to forms with any nebentypus and to $p$ dividing the level of $f$. For the latter we restrict our considerations to CM points corresponding to test objects endowed with an arithmetic $p$-level str…
Recently, Zagier expressed an interpolated version of the Apéry numbers for $ζ(3)$ in terms of a critical $L$-value of a modular form of weight 4. We extend this evaluation in two directions. We first prove that interpolations of Zagier's six sporadic sequences are essentially critical $L$-values of modular forms of weight 3. We then establish an infinite family of evaluations between interpolations of leading coefficients of Brown's cellular integrals and critical $L$-values of modular forms of odd weight.
We exhibit a method to numerically compute power series expansions of modular forms on a cocompact Fuchsian group, using the explicit computation a fundamental domain and linear algebra.
We construct motivic cohomology classes attached to Rankin--Selberg convolutions of modular forms of weights $\ge 2$, show that these vary analytically in p-adic families, and relate their image under the p-adic regulator map to values of L-functions. As consequences, we prove new cases of Perrin-Riou's conjecture on motivic L-values; we prove finiteness results for Tate--Shafarevich groups for twists of elliptic curves by dihedral Artin characters; and we prove one inclusion in the Iwasawa main conjecture for a single modular form over an imaginary quadratic field.
We show that the Drinfeld modular forms with $A$-expansion that have been constructed by the author are precisely the hyperderivatives of the subfamily of single-cuspidal Drinfeld modular forms with $A$-expansions that remain modular after hyperdifferentiation. In addition, we show that Drinfeld-Poincaré series display a similar behavior with respect to hyperdifferentiation, giving indirect evidence that the Drinfeld modular forms with $A$-expansions are Drinfeld-Poincaré series. The Drinfeld-Poincaré series that we consider generalize previous examples of such series by Gekeler, and Gerritzen…
We generalize Merel's work on universal Fourier expansions to Bianchi modular forms over Euclidean imaginary quadratic fields, under the assumption of the nondegeneracy of a pairing between Bianchi modular forms and Bianchi modular symbols. Among the key inputs is a computation of the action of Hecke operators on Manin symbols, and building upon the Heilbronn-Merel matrices constructed by Mohamed.
The theory of Mellin transform is an incredibly useful tool in evaluating some of the well known results for the zeta function. Ramanujan in his quarterly reports \cite{1} gave a theorem for Mellin transform which is now known as Ramanujan's master theorem \cite{2}. In this paper, we have derived some extended versions of Ramanujan's master theorem based on our previous results \cite{3} and applied them to some special functions such as known as the Riesz function $R(z)$ and generalized binomial function. Some asymptotic expansions using extended Ramanujan's master theorem are also derived.
In 2010 Zagier introduced the notion of a quantum modular form. One of his first examples was the "strange" function $F(q)$ of Kontsevich. Here we produce a new example of a quantum modular form by making use of some of Ramanujan's mock theta functions. Using these functions and their transformation behaviour, we also compute asymptotic expansions similar to expansions of $F(q)$.
Cheng constructed product expansions from twists of elliptic genera of symmetric powers of K3 surfaces that are related to M_24 moonshine. We study which of them are Siegel modular forms. If the predicted level is non-composite, they are modular, and their powers can be represented as products of rescaled Borcherds products.
Ming-Lun Hsieh constructed three-variable triple product p-adic L-functions attached to triples of primitive Hida families and proved interpolation formulas. We generalize his result in the unbalanced case and construct a three-variable triple product p-adic L-function attached to a primitive Hida family and two more general p-adic families of modular forms.
We develop an analytic theory of cusps for Scholze's $p$-adic modular curves at infinite level in terms of perfectoid parameter spaces for Tate curves. As an application, we describe a canonical tilting isomorphism between an anticanonical overconvergent neighbourhood of the ordinary locus of the modular curve at level $Γ_1(p^\infty)$ and the analogous locus of an infinite level perfected Igusa variety. We also prove various $q$-expansion principles for functions on modular curves at infinite level, namely that the properties of extending to the cusps, vanishing, coming from finite level, and …
We introduce the notion of Drinfeld modular forms with $A$-expansions, where instead of the usual Fourier expansion in $t^n$ ($t$ being the uniformizer at `infinity'), parametrized by $n \in \mathbb{N}$, we look at expansions in $t_a$, parametrized by $a \in A = \Fq [T]$. We construct an infinite family of eigenforms with $A$-expansions. Drinfeld modular forms with $A$-expansions have many desirable properties that allow us to explicitly compute the Hecke action. The applications of our results include: (i) various congruences between Drinfeld eigenforms; (ii) the computation of the eigensyste…
We develop the topological polylogarithm which provides an integral version of Nori's Eisenstein cohomology classes for $GL_n(\mathbf{Z})$ and yields classes with values in an Iwasawa algebra. This implies directly the integrality properties of special values of $L$-functions of totally real fields and a construction of the associated $p$-adic $L$-function. Using a result of Graf, we also apply this to prove some integrality and $p$-adic interpolation results for the Eisenstein cohomology of Hilbert modular varieties.
In this article, we generalize some works of Bertolini-Darmon and Vatsal on anticyclotomic L-functions attached to modular forms of weight two to higher weight case. We construct a class of anticyclotomic p-adic L-functions for ordinary modular forms and derive the functional equation and the interpolation formula at all critical specializations. Moreover, we prove results on the vanishing of mu-invariant of these p-adic L-functions and the non-vanishing of central L-values with anticyclotomic twists.
We correct a mistake in \cite{St} leading to erroneous formulas in Theorems 5.2 and 5.4. As an immediate corollary of a formula in \cite{BCJ} we give a formula, which relates the Hecke operators $T(p^2)\circ T(p^{2l-2})$, $T(p^{2l})$ and $T(p^{2l-4})$ and comment on it.
We show, for levels of the form $N = p^a q^b N'$ with $N'$ squarefree, that in weights $k \geq 4$ every cusp form $f \in \mathcal{S}_k(N)$ is a linear combination of products of certain Eisenstein series of lower weight. In weight $k=2$ we show that the forms $f$ which can be obtained in this way are precisely those in the subspace generated by eigenforms $g$ with $L(g, 1) \neq 0$. As an application of such representations of modular forms we can calculate Fourier expansions of modular forms at arbitrary cusps and we give several examples of such expansions in the last section.
In this paper, we investigate Fourier expansions of meromorphic modular forms. Over the years, a number of special cases of meromorphic modular forms were shown to have Fourier expansions closely resembling the expansion of the reciprocal of the weight $6$ Eisenstein series which was computed by Hardy and Ramanujan. By investigating meromorphic modular forms within a larger space of so-called polar harmonic Maass forms, we prove in this paper that all negative-weight meromorphic modular forms (and furthermore all quasi-meromorpic modular forms) have Fourier expansions of this type, granted tha…
We extend a result of Greenberg and Stevens on the interpolation of modular symbols in Hida families to the context of non-split rational quaternion algebras. Both the definite case and the indefinite case are considered.
We use weakly holomorphic modular forms for the Hecke theta group to construct an explicit interpolation formula for Schwartz functions on the real line. The formula expresses the value of a function at any given point in terms of the values of the function and its Fourier transform on the set $\{0, \pm\sqrt{1}, \pm\sqrt{2}, \pm\sqrt{3},\dots\}$.
The classical theory of $p$-adic (elliptic) modular forms arose in the 1970's from the work of J.-P.\ Serre \cite{se1} who took $p$-adic limits of the $q$-expansions of these forms. It was soon expanded by N.\ Katz \cite{ka1} with a more functorial approach. Since then the theory has grown in a variety of directions. In the late 1970's, the theory of modular forms associated to Drinfeld modules was born in analogy with elliptic modular forms \cite{go1}, \cite{go2}. The associated expansions at $\infty$ are quite complicated and no obvious limits at finite primes ${\mathfrak v}$ were apparent. …
A description is given of all primitive differential series mod p of order 1 which are eigenvectors of all the Hecke operators and which are differential Fourier expansions of differential modular forms of arbitrary order and given weight; this set of differential series is shown to be in a natural one-to-one correspondence with the set of series mod p (of order 0) which are eigenvectors of all the Hecke operators and which are Fourier expansions of (classical) modular forms of appropriate weight.
Many authors have investigated the congruence relations amongst the coefficients of power series expansions of modular forms $f$ in modular functions $t$. In a recent paper, R. Osburn and B. Sahu examine several power series expansions and prove that the coefficients exhibit congruence relations similar to the congruences satisfied by the Apéry numbers associated with the irrationality of $ζ(3)$. We show that many of the examples of Osburn and Sahu are members of infinite families.
We show that every elliptic modular form of integral weight greater than $1$ can be expressed as linear combinations of products of at most two cusp expansions of Eisenstein series. This removes the obstruction of nonvanishing central $\mathrm{L}$-values present in all previous work. For weights greater than $2$, we refine our result further, showing that linear combinations of products of exactly two cusp expansions of Eisenstein series suffice.
Congruences of Fourier coefficients of modular forms have long been an object of central study. By comparison, the arithmetic of other expansions of modular forms, in particular Taylor expansions around points in the upper-half plane, has been much less studied. Recently, Romik made a conjecture about the periodicity of coefficients around $τ=i$ of the classical Jacobi theta function. Here, we prove this conjecture and generalize the phenomenon observed by Romik to a general class of modular forms of half-integral weight.
The main result of this paper is an instance of the conjecture made by Gouvea and Mazur (Math. Res. Lett., 1995) which asserts that for certain values of r the space of r-overconvergent p-adic modular forms of tame level N and weight k should be spanned by the finite slope Hecke eigenforms. Using methods adapted from the work of Buzzard and Calegari I show that for p=2, k = 0, N = 1, this holds for all r in (5/12, 7/12). The proof relies on a certain factorisation of the U_p operator which is known in this case but I conjecture also holds for p = 3 and 5; this conjecture also implies exact for…
The goal in this preprint is to give an efficient algorithm to compute Puiseux expansions at cusps of X0(N). It is based on a relation with a hypergeometric function that holds for any N.
We compute the Fourier coefficients of the weight one modular form $η(z)η(2z)η(3z)/η(6z)$ in terms of the number of representations of an integer as a sum of two squares. We deduce a relation between this modular form and translates of the modular form $η(z)^4/η(2z)^2$. In the last section we use our main result to give an elementary proof of an identity by Victor Kac.
In this paper, we compute the Fourier expansion of the Shintani lift of nearly holomorphic modular forms. As an application, we deduce modularity properties of generating series of cycle integrals of nearly holomorphic modular forms.
For a fixed prime we prove structure theorems for the kernel and the image of the map that attaches to any differential modular function its differential Fourier expansion. The image of this map, which is the ring of differential Fourier expansions, plays the role of ring of functions on a "differential Igusa curve". Our constructions are then used to perform an analytic continuation between isogeny covariant differential modular forms on the differential Igusa curves belonging to different primes.
Let $F_\infty=\mathbb{F}_q(\!(1/T)\!)$ be the completion of $\mathbb{F}_q(T)$ at $1/T$. We develop a theory of Fourier expansions for harmonic cochains on the edges of the Bruhat-Tits building of $\mathrm{PGL}_r(F_\infty)$, $r\geq 2$, generalizing an earlier construction of Gekeler for $r=2$. We then apply this theory to study modular units on the Drinfeld symmetric space $Ω^r$ over $F_\infty$, and the cuspidal divisor groups of Satake compactifications of certain Drinfeld modular varieties. In particular, we obtain a higher dimensional analogue of a result of Ogg for classical modular curves …
We construct p-adic L-functions associated to cuspidal Hilbert modular eigenforms of parallel weight two in certain dihedral or anticyclotomic extensions via the Jacquet-Langlands correspondence, generalizing works of Bertolini-Darmon, Vatsal and others. The construction given here is adelic, which allows us to deduce a precise interpolation formula from a Waldspurger type formula, as well as a formula for the dihedral mu-invariant. We also make a note of Howard's nonvanishing criterion for these p-adic L-functions, which can be used to reduce the associated Iwasawa main conjecture to a certai…
We calculate the effect of simple Hecke operators on u-expansions of higher rank Drinfeld modular forms, the eigenvalue for the Drinfeld discriminant function $Δ_t$ and show that a certain natural class of Hecke operators is completely multiplicative.
In this article we present an algorithm that uses the graded algebra structure of Hilbert modular forms to compute the adelic $q$-expansion of Hilbert modular forms of weight one as the quotient of Hilbert modular forms of higher weight. The main improvement to existing methods is that our algorithm can be applied in weight $1$, which fills a gap left by standard computational methods. Additionally, the algorithm can be used to compute Hilbert modular forms over finite fields in all characteristic simultaneously. We use this algorithm to compute a first candidate of a Hilbert modular form of p…
Suppose that $G$ is a simple adjoint reductive group over $\mathbf{Q}$, with an exceptional Dynkin type, and with $G(\mathbf{R})$ quaternionic (in the sense of Gross-Wallach). Then there is a notion of modular forms for $G$, anchored on the so-called quaternionic discrete series representations of $G(\mathbf{R})$. The purpose of this paper is to give an explicit form of the Fourier expansion of modular forms on $G$, along the unipotent radical $N$ of the Heisenberg parabolic $P = MN$ of $G$.
We describe an algorithm for computing a $\Q$-rational model for the quotient of a modular curve by an automorphism group, under mild assumptions on the curve and the automorphisms, by determining $q$-expansions for a basis of the corresponding space of cusp forms. We also give a moduli interpretation for general morphisms between modular curves.
Let $F$ be a totally real field and $p$ be an odd prime which splits completely in $F$. We prove that the eigenvariety associated to a definite quaternion algebra over $F$ satisfies the following property: over a boundary annulus of the weight space, the eigenvariety is a disjoint union of countably infinitely many connected components which are finite over the weight space; on each fixed connected component, the ratios between the $U_\mathfrak{p}$-slopes of points and the $p$-adic valuations of the $\mathfrak{p}$-parameters are bounded by explicit numbers, for all primes $\mathfrak{p}$ of $F$…
We classify ``arithmetic convection equations'' on modular curves, and describe their space of solutions. Certain of these solutions involve the Fourier expansions of the Eisenstein modular forms of weight 4 and 6, while others involve the Serre-Tate expansions of the same modular forms; in this sense, our arithmetic convection equations can be seen as "unifying" the two types of expansions. The theory can be generalized to one of ``arithmetic heat equations'' on modular curves, but we prove that modular curves do not carry ``arithmetic wave equations.'' Finally, we prove an instability result…
In this paper, we extend previous results to prove that generalized modular forms with rational Fourier expansions whose divisors are supported only at the cusps and certain other points in the upper half plane are actually classical modular forms. We discuss possible limitations to this extension and pose questions about possible zeroes for modular forms of prime level.
In this paper we discuss the problem of numerically computing Petersson inner products of modular forms, given their $q$-expansion at $\infty$. A formula of Nelson reduces this to obtaining $q$-expansions at all cusps, and we describe two algorithms based on linear interpolation for numerically obtaining such expansions. We apply our methods to numerically verify constants arising in an explicit version of Ichino's triple-product formula relating $\langle fg,h\rangle$ to the central value of $L(f\times g\times \bar{h},s)$, for three modular forms $f,g,h$ of compatible weights and characters.
We give congruences modulo powers of 2 for the Fourier coefficients of certain level 2 modular functions with poles only at 0, answering a question posed by Andersen and the first author. The congruences involve a modulus that depends on the binary expansion of the modular form's order of vanishing at $\infty$.
We deepen the study of the relations previously established by Mayer, Lewis and Zagier, and the authors, among the eigenfunctions of the transfer operators of the Gauss and the Farey maps, the solutions of the Lewis-Zagier three-term functional equation and the Maass forms on the modular surface $PSL(2,\Z)\backslash \HH$. In particular we introduce an "inverse" of the integral transform studied by Lewis and Zagier, and use it to obtain new series expansions for the Maass cusp forms and the non-holomorphic Eisenstein series restricted to the imaginary axis. As corollaries we obtain further info…
