In this paper, we compute the Fourier expansion of the Shintani lift of nearly holomorphic modular forms. As an application, we deduce modularity properties of generating series of cycle integrals of nearly holomorphic modular forms.
In this note we give a detailed construction of a $Λ$-adic $\mathfrak{d}$-th Shintani lifting. We derive a $Λ$-adic version of Kohnen's formula relating Fourier coefficients of half-integral weight modular forms and special values of twisted L-series. As a by-product, we derive a mild generalization of such classical formulae, and also point out a relation between Fourier coefficients of $Λ$-adic $\d$-th Shintani liftings and Stark--Heegner points.
In this paper, we construct Shintani lifts from integral weight weakly holomorphic modular forms to half-integral weight weakly holomorphic modular forms. Although defined by different methods, these coincide with the classical Shintani lifts when restricted to the space of cusp forms. As a side effect, this gives the coefficients of the classical Shintani lifts as new cycle integrals. This yields new formulas for the $L$-values of Hecke eigenforms. When restricted to the space of weakly holomorphic modular forms orthogonal to cusp forms, the Shintani lifts introduce a definition of weakly hol…
We describe the construction and properties of a singular theta lift for the orthogonal group $\SO(2,1)$. We obtain locally harmonic Maass forms in the sense of Bringmann-Kane-Kohnen with singular sets along geodesics in the upper half plane. We consider these forms as currents and derive properties of the Shimura-Shintani correspondence. This work provides extensions of the theta lifts considered by Hoevel and Bringann-Kane-Viazovska.
We define a regularized Shintani theta lift which maps weight $2k+2$ ($k \in \Z, k \geq 0$) harmonic Maass forms for congruence subgroups to (sesqui-)harmonic Maass forms of weight $3/2+k$ for the Weil representation of an even lattice of signature $(1,2)$. We show that its Fourier coefficients are given by traces of CM values and regularized cycle integrals of the input harmonic Maass form. Further, the Shintani theta lift is related via the $ξ$-operator to the Millson theta lift studied in our earlier work. We use this connection to construct $ξ$-preimages of Zagier's weight $1/2$ generating…
We study a certain theta lift which maps weight $-2k$ to weight $1/2-k$ harmonic weak Maass forms for $k \in \mathbb{Z}, k \geq 0$, and which is closely related to the classical Shintani lift from weight $2k+2$ to weight $k+3/2$ cusp forms. We compute the Fourier expansion of the theta lift and show that it involves twisted traces of CM values and geodesic cycle integrals of the input function. As an application, we obtain a criterion for the non-vanishing of the central $L$-value of an integral weight newform $G$ in terms of the holomorphicity of the theta lift of a certain harmonic weak Maas…
We study the meromorphic modular forms defined as sums of -k (k>1) powers of integral quadratic polynomials with negative discriminant. These functions can be viewed as meromorphic analogues of the holomorphic modular forms defined in the same way with positive discriminant, first investigated by Zagier in connection with the Doi-Naganuma map and then by Kohnen and Zagier in connection with the Shimura-Shintani lifts. We compute the Fourier coefficients of these meromorphic modular forms and we show that they split into the sum of a meromorphic modular form with computable algebraic Fourier co…
In this paper we define a new type of modular object and construct explicit examples of such functions. Our functions are closely related to cusp forms constructed by Zagier which played an important role in the construction by Kohnen and Zagier of a kernel function for the Shimura and Shintani lifts between half-integral and integral weight cusp forms. Although our functions share many properties in common with harmonic weak Maass forms, they also have some properties which strikingly contrast those exhibited by harmonic weak Maass forms. As a first application of the new theory developed in …
The goal of this paper is to construct the p-adic analytic family of overconvergent half-integral weight modular forms using Hecke-equivariant overconvergent Shintani lifting. The classical Shintani map is the Hecke-equivariant map from the space of cusp forms of integral weight to the space of cusp forms of half-integral weight. Glenn Stevens proved in [St1] that there is Lamda-adic lifting of this map to the Hida family of ordinary cusp forms of integral weight and consequently constructed Lamda-adic modular eigen form of half-integral weight. The natural thing to do is generalizing his resu…
Let Sp_V(F) be the group of isometries of a symplectic vector space V over a finite field F of odd cardinality. The group Sp_V(F) possesses distinguished representations--- the Weil representations. We know that they are compatible with base change in the sense of Shintani for a finite extension F'/F. The result is also true for the group of similitudes of V.
In this paper, we investigate cycle integrals of weakly holomorphic modular forms. We show that these integrals coincide with the cycle integrals of classical cusp forms. We use these results to define a Shintani lift from integral weight weakly holomorphic modular forms to half-integral weight holomorphic modular forms.
We prove equidistribution theorems for a family of holomorphic Siegel cusp forms of general degree in the level aspect. Our main contribution is to estimate unipotent contributions for general degree in the geometric side of Arthur's invariant trace formula in terms of Shintani zeta functions. Several applications including the vertical Sato-Tate theorem and low-lying zeros for standard $L$-functions of holomorphic Siegel cusp forms are discussed. We also show that the "non-genuine forms" which come from non-trivial endoscopic contributions by Langlands functoriality classified by Arthur are n…
The Shimura correspondence connects modular forms of integral weights and half-integral weights. One of the directions is realized by the Shintani lift, where the inputs are holomorphic differentials and the outputs are holomorphic modular forms of half-integral weight. In this article, we generalize this lift to differentials of the third kind. As an application we obtain a modularity result concerning the generating series of winding numbers of closed geodesics on the modular curve.
We show how to realize the Shimura lift of arbitrary level and character using the vector-valued theta lifts of Borcherds. Using the regularization of Borcherds' lift we extend the Shimura lift to take weakly holomorphic modular forms of half-integral weight to meromorphic modular forms of even integral weight having poles at CM points.
We derive finite rational formulas for the traces of cycle integrals of certain meromorphic modular forms. Moreover, we prove the modularity of a completion of the generating function of such traces. The theoretical framework for these results is an extension of the Shintani theta lift to meromorphic modular forms of positive even weight.
The classical Maass lift is a map from holomorphic Jacobi forms to holomorphic scalar-valued Siegel modular forms. Automorphic representation theory predicts a non-holomorphic and vector-valued analogue for Hecke eigenforms. This paper is the first part of a series of papers. In this series of papers, we provide an explicit construction of the non-holomorphic Maass lift that is linear and also applies to non-eigenforms. In this first part, we develop new techniques to study Fourier series expansions of Siegel modular forms, which allow us to construct a Maass lift from harmonic Maass-Jacobi fo…
We give explicit pullback formulae for nearly holomorphic Saito-Kurokawa lifts restrict to product of upper half-plane against with product of elliptic modular forms. We generalize the formula of Ichino to modular forms of higher level and free the restriction on weights. The explicit formulae provide non-trivial examples for the refined Gan-Gross-Prasad conjecture for $({\rm SO}_5,{\rm SO}_4)$ in the non-tempered cases. As an application, we obtain Deligne's conjecture for critical values of certain automorphic $L$-functions for ${\rm GL}_3 \times {\rm GL}_2$. We also expect to apply our pull…
We extend Borcherds' singular theta lift in signature $(1,2)$ to harmonic Maass forms of weight $1/2$ whose non-holomorphic part is allowed to be of exponential growth at $i\infty$. We determine the singularities of the lift and compute its Fourier expansion. It turns out that the lift is continuous but not differentiable along certain geodesics in the upper half-plane corresponding to the non-holomorphic principal part of the input. As an application, we obtain a generalization to higher level of the weight $2$ modular integral of Duke, Imamoglu and Tóth. Further, we construct automorphic pro…
It is shown that each complex conjugate of a meromorphic modular form for $\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{Z})$ of any complex weight $p$ occurs as the image of a harmonic modular form under the operator $2i y^p \, \partial_{\bar z}$. These harmonic lifts occur in holomorphic families with the weight as the parameter.
We investigate so-called "higher" Siegel theta lifts on Lorentzian lattices in the spirit of Bruinier-Ehlen-Yang and Bruinier-Schwagenscheidt. We give a series representation of the lift in terms of Gauss hypergeometric functions, and evaluate the lift as the constant term of a Fourier series involving the Rankin-Cohen bracket of harmonic Maass forms and theta functions. Using the higher Siegel lifts, we obtain a vector-valued analogue of Mertens' result stating that the Rankin--Cohen bracket of the holomorphic part of a harmonic Maass form of weight $\frac{3}{2}$ and a unary theta function, p…
Let $f$ be a cuspidal Hecke eigenform of level 1. We prove the automorphy of the symmetric power lifting $\mathrm{Sym}^n f$ for every $n \geq 1$. We establish the same result for a more general class of cuspidal Hecke eigenforms, including all those associated to semistable elliptic curves over $\mathbb{Q}$.
Duke and the second author defined a family of linear maps from spaces of weakly holomorphic modular forms of negative integral weight and level 1 into spaces of weakly holomorphic modular forms of half integral weight and level 4 and showed that these lifts preserve the integrality of Fourier coefficients. We show that the generalization of these lifts to modular forms of genus 0 odd prime level also preserves the integrality of Fourier coefficients.
In this paper, we prove some divisibility results for the Fourier coefficients of reduced modular forms of sign vectors. More precisely, we generalize a divisibility result of Siegel on constant terms when the weight is non-positive, which is related to the weight of Borcherds lifts when the weight is zero. By considering Hecke operators for the spaces of weakly holomorphic modular forms with sign vectors, and obtain divisibility results in an "orthogonal" direction on reduced modular forms.
Let $\frak T_2$ (resp. $\mathfrak{T}$) be the Hermitian symmetric domain of $Spin(2,10)$ (resp. $E_{7,3}$). In the previous work, we constructed holomorphic cusp forms on $\mathfrak{T}$ from elliptic cusp forms with respect to $SL_2(\mathbb{Z})$. By using such cusp forms we construct holomorphic cusp forms on $\mathfrak{T}_2$ which are similar to Miyawaki lift in symplectic groups established by T. Ikeda.
Eichler and Zagier developed a theory of Jacobi forms to understand and extend Maass' work on the Saito-Kurokawa conjecture. Later Skoruppa introduced skew-holomorphic Jacobi forms, which play an important role in understanding liftings of modular forms and Jacobi forms. In this paper, we explain a relation between holomorphic Jacobi forms and skew-holomorphic Jacobi forms in terms of a group cohomology. More precisely, we introduce an isomorphism from the direct sum of the space of Jacobi cusp forms on $Γ^J$ and the space of skew-holomorphic Jacobi cusp forms on $Γ^J$ with the same half-integ…
Given a non-holomorphic Saito-Kurokawa lift we construct a preimage under the vector-valued lowering operator. In analogy with the case of harmonic weak elliptic Maaß forms, this preimage allows for a natural decomposition into a meromorphic and a non-holomorphic part. In this way every harmonic weak Siegel Maaß form gives rise to a Siegel mock modular form.
Let $F$ be a nearly holomorphic vector-valued Siegel modular form of weight $ρ$ with respect to some congruence subgroup of $\mathrm{Sp}_{2n}(\mathbb Q)$. In this note, we prove that the function on $\mathrm{Sp}_{2n}(\mathbb R)$ obtained by lifting $F$ has the moderate growth (or "slowly increasing") property. This is a consequence of the following bound that we prove: $\|ρ(Y^{1/2})F(Z) \| \ll \prod_{i=1}^n (μ_i(Y)^{λ_1/2} + μ_i(Y)^{-λ_1/2})$ where $ λ_1 \ge \ldots \ge λ_n$ is the highest weight of $ρ$ and $μ_i(Y)$ are the eigenvalues of the matrix $Y$.
Serre obtained the p-adic limit of the integral Fourier coefficient of modular forms on $SL_2(\mathbb{Z})$ for $p=2,3,5,7$. In this paper, we extend the result of Serre to weakly holomorphic modular forms of half integral weight on $Γ_{0}(4N)$ for $N=1,2,4$. A proof is based on linear relations among Fourier coefficients of modular forms of half integral weight. As applications we obtain congruences of Borcherds exponents, congruences of quotient of Eisentein series and congruences of values of $L$-functions at a certain point are also studied. Furthermore, the congruences of the Fourier coeff…
We present some applications of the Kudla-Millson and the Millson theta lift. The two lifts map weakly holomorphic modular functions to vector valued harmonic Maass forms of weight $3/2$ and $1/2$, respectively. We give finite algebraic formulas for the coefficients of Ramanujan's mock theta functions $f(q)$ and $ω(q)$ in terms of traces of CM-values of a weakly holomorphic modular function. Further, we construct vector valued harmonic Maass forms whose shadows are unary theta functions, and whose holomorphic parts have rational coefficients. This yields a rationality result for the coefficien…
We study sums of additively twisted Fourier coefficients of a holomorphic cusp form, a Maass cusp form, and the symmetric-square lift of a holomorphic cusp form. We obtain bounds that are uniform with respect to both the form and the terms of the additive twist. We also improve a bound on a sum of additively twisted Fourier coefficients of a holomorphic cusp form that have also been twisted by a nonlinear exponential term. This last bound is uniform with respect to the terms of the additive twist but it is not uniform with respect to the form.
We investigate the correspondence between holomorphic automorphic forms on the upper half-plane with complex weight and parabolic cocycles. For integral weights at least 2 this correspondence is given by the Eichler integral. Knopp generalized this to real weights. We show that for weights that are not an integer at least 2 the generalized Eichler integral gives an injection into the first cohomology group with values in a module of holomorphic functions, and characterize the image. We impose no condition on the growth of the automorphic forms at the cusps. For real weights that are not an int…
We define canonical real analytic versions of modular forms of integral weight for the full modular group, generalising real analytic Eisenstein series. They are harmonic Maass waveforms with poles at the cusp, whose Fourier coefficients involve periods and quasi-periods of cusp forms, which are conjecturally transcendental. In particular, we settle the question of finding explicit `weak harmonic lifts' for every eigenform of integral weight $k$ and level one. We show that mock modular forms of integral weight are algebro-geometric and have Fourier coefficients proportional to $n^{1-k}(a'_n + …
A new- and old-form theory for Bessel periods of Saito-Kurokawa representations is given. We introduce arithmetic subgroups so that a local Bessel vector fixed by the subgroup indexed by the conductor of the representation is unique up to scalars. The global Langlands L-function of a holomorphic Saito-Kurokawa representation coincides with a canonically settled Piatetski-Shapiro zeta integral of the newform.
In this paper we present a geometric way to extend the Shintani lift from even weight cusp forms for congruence subgroups to arbitrary modular forms, in particular Eisenstein series. This is part of our efforts to extend in the noncompact situation the results of Kudla-Millson and Funke-Millson relating Fourier coefficients of (Siegel) modular forms with intersection numbers of cycles (with coefficients) on orthogonal locally symmetric spaces. In the present paper, the cycles in question are the classical modular symbols with nontrivial coefficients. We introduce "capped" modular symbols with …
This paper is a continuation of the author's previous wotk. We supplement four results on a family of holomorphic Siegel cusp forms for $GSp_4/\mathbb{Q}$. First, we improve the result on Hecke fields. Namely, we prove that the degree of Hecke fields is unbounded on the subspace of genuine forms which do not come from functorial lift of smaller subgroups of $GSp_4$ under a conjecture in local-global compatibility and Arthur's classification for $GSp_4$. Second, we prove simultaneous vertical Sato-Tate theorem. Namely, we prove simultaneous equidistribution of Hecke eigenvalues at finitely many…
We define a regularized theta lift from SL_2 to orthogonal groups over totally real fields. It takes harmonic `Whittaker forms' to automorphic Green functions and weakly holomorphic Whittaker forms to meromorphic modular forms on orthogonal groups with zeros and poles supported on special divisors, generalizing Borcherds' work on automorphic products. To prove our results we use the spectral expansion of the lift and study its relationship with the cohomological theta lift of Kudla and Millson.
We provide a construction of the multiplicative Borcherds lift for unitary groups U(1,m), which takes weakly holomorphic elliptic modular forms and lifts them to meromorphic automorphic forms having infinite product expansions and taking their zeros and poles along Heegner divisors. The result is obtained through the transfer of Borcherds' theory to unitary groups via a suitable embedding of U(1,m) into O(2,2m). Further, we examine the values taken by the Borcherds products around the cusps of the symmetric domain of the unitary group. Finally, as an application of the lifting, we derive a mod…
We prove that Heegner cycles of codimension m+1 inside Kuga-Sato type varieties of dimension 2m+1 are coefficients of modular forms of weight 3/2+m in the appropriate quotient group. The main technical tool for generating the necessary relations is a Borcherds style theta lift with polynomials. We also show how this lift defines a new singular Shimura-type correspondence from weakly holomorphic modular forms of weight 1/2-m to meromorphic modular forms of weight 2m+2.
The Borcherds lift for indefinite unitary groups, previously constructed by the author, is examined here in greater detail for the special case of the group U(1,1). The inputs for the lifting in this case are weakly holomorphic modular forms of weight zero, which are lifted to meromorphic modular forms on the usual complex upper half plane transforming under an arithmetic subgroup of U(1,1). In this setting, we can completely describe the Weyl-chambers involved and explicitly calculate the attached Weyl-vectors, for a family of input functions with principle part $q^{-n}$. Since these are a ba…
In this paper, we compute basis elements of certain spaces of weight 0 weakly holomorphic modular forms and consider the integrality of Fourier coefficients of the modular forms. We use the results to construct automorphic correction of the rank 2 hyperbolic Kac-Moody algebras H(a), a=4,5,6, through Hilbert modular forms explicitly given by Borcherds lifts of the weakly holomorphic modular forms. We also compute asymptotic of the Fourier coefficients as they are related to root multiplicities of the rank 2 hyperbolic Kac-Moody algebras. This work is a continuation of the previous paper, where …
Our aim is to clarify the relationship between Kudla's and Bruinier's Green functions attached to special cycles on Shimura varieties of orthogonal and unitary type. These functions play a key role in the arithmetic geometry of the special cycles in the context of Kudla's program. In particular, we show that the generating series obtained by taking the differences of the two families of Green functions is a modular form with trivial holomorphic projection. Along the way, we construct a section of the Maass lowering operator for moderate growth modular forms valued in the Weil representation us…
Suppose that p > 5 is a rational prime. Starting from a well-known p-adic analytic family of ordinary elliptic cusp forms of level p due to Hida, we construct a certain p-adic analytic family of holomorphic Siegel cusp forms of arbitrary even genus and of level p associated with Hida's p-adic analytic family via the Duke-Imamoglu lifting provided by Ikeda. Moreover, we also give a similar results for the Siegel Eisenstein series of even genus with trivial Nebentypus.

Let $A^{lev}_{11}$ be the moduli space of (1,11)-polarized abelian surfaces with level structure of canonical type. Let $χ$ be a finite character of order 5 with conductor 11. In this paper we construct five endoscopic lifts $Π_i,0\le i\le 4$ from two elliptic modular forms $f\otimesχ^i$ of weight 2 and $g\otimesχ^i$ of weight 4 with complex multiplication by $Q(\sqrt{-11})$ such that ${Π_i}_\infty$ gives a non-holomorphic differential form on $A^{lev}_{11}$ for each $i$. Then the spinor L-function is of form $L(f\otimesχ^i,s-1)L(g\otimesχ^i,s)$ such that $L(g\otimesχ^i,s)$ does not appear in …
Generalizing work of Gross--Zagier and Schofer on singular moduli, we study the CM values of regularized theta lifts of harmonic Whittaker forms. We compute the archimedian part of the height pairing of arithmetic special divisors and CM cycles on Shimura varieties associated to certain quadratic spaces over an arbitrary totally real base field. As a special case, we obtain an explicit formula for the norms of the CM values of those meromorphic modular forms arising as regularized theta lifts of holomorphic Whittaker forms.
We prove a new converse theorem for Borcherds' multiplicative theta lift which improves the previously known results. To this end we develop a newform theory for vector valued modular forms for the Weil representation, which might be of independent interest. We also derive lower bounds for the ranks of the Picard groups and the spaces of holomorphic top degree differential forms of modular varieties associated to orthogonal groups.
Quasi-pullback of Borcherds products is an operation of renormalized restriction. It produces a meromorphic modular form on a lower dimensional symmetric domain which is again a Borcherds product. We give an explicit formula for the weakly holomorphic modular form of Weil representation type whose Borcherds lift is the quasi-pullback of the given Borcherds product.
