This paper is devoted to semi-classical aspects of symplectic reduction. Consider a compact prequantizable Kahler manifold M with a Hamiltonian torus action. Guillemin and Sternberg introduced an isomorphism between the invariant part of the quantum space associated to M and the quantum space associated to the symplectic quotient of M, provided this quotient is non-singular.
We prove that this isomorphism is a Fourier integral operator and that the Toeplitz operators of M descend to Toeplitz operators of the reduced phase space. We also extend these results to the case where the symplectic quotient is an orbifold and estimate the spectral density of a reduced Toeplitz operator, a result related to the Riemann-Roch-Kawazaki theorem.
The main result of this paper is the description of asymptotics along rays in weight space of traces of equivariant Toeplitz operators composed with quantomorphisms for torus actions. The main ingredient in the proof is the microlocal analysis of the equivariant Szego kernels.
In this paper, we give a correspondence between the Berezin-Toeplitz and the complex Weyl quantizations of the torus $ \mathbb{T}^2$. To achieve this, we use the correspondence between the Berezin-Toeplitz and the complex Weyl quantizations of the complex plane and a relation between the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization of a periodic symbol on the real phase space $\mathbb{R}^2$ and the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization of a symbol on the torus $ \mathbb{T}^2 $.
We consider a natural variant of Berezin-Toeplitz quantization of compact Kähler manifolds, in the presence of a Hamiltonian circle action lifting to the quantizing line bundle. Assuming that the moment map is positive, we study the diagonal asymptotics of the associated Szegö and Toeplitz operators, and specifically their relation to the moment map and to the geometry of a certain symplectic quotient. When the underlying action is trivial and the moment map is taken to be identically equal to one, this scheme coincides with the usual Berezin-Toeplitz quantization. This continues previous work…
In the spectral theory of positive elliptic operators, an important role is played by certain smoothing kernels, related to the Fourier transform of the trace of a wave operator, which may be heuristically interpreted as smoothed spectral projectors asymptotically drifting to the right of the spectrum. In the setting of Toeplitz quantization, we consider analogues of these, where the wave operator is replaced by the Hardy space compression of a linearized Hamiltonian flow, possibly composed with a family of zeroth order Toeplitz operators. We study the local asymptotics of these smoothing kern…
A trace formula for Toeplitz operators was proved by Boutet de Monvel and Guillemin in the setting of general Toeplitz structures. Here we give a local version of this result for a class of Toeplitz operators related to continuous groups of symmetries on quantizable compact symplectic manifolds. The local trace formula involves certain scaling asymptotics along the clean fixed locus of the Hamiltonian flow of the symbol, reminiscent of the scaling asymptotics of the equivariant components of the Szegö kernel along the diagonal.
We determine conditions under which two Hamiltonian torus actions on a symplectic manifold $M$ are homotopic by a family of Hamiltonian torus actions, when $M$ is a toric manifold and when $M$ is a coadjoint orbit.
Let us consider, for $n \geq 3$, the Cartan domain $\mathrm{D}_n^{\mathrm{IV}}$ of type IV. On the weighted Bergman spaces $\mathcal{A}^2_λ(\mathrm{D}_n^{\mathrm{IV}})$ we study the problem of the existence of commutative $C^*$-algebras generated by Toeplitz operators with special symbols. We focus on the subgroup $\mathrm{SO}(n) \times \mathrm{SO}(2)$ of biholomorphisms of $\mathrm{D}_n^{\mathrm{IV}}$ that fix the origin. The $\mathrm{SO}(n) \times \mathrm{SO}(2)$-invariant symbols yield Toeplitz operators that generate commutative $C^*$-algebras, but commutativity is lost when we consider sy…
In this paper, we study the hard Lefschetz property of a symplectic manifold which admits a Hamiltonian torus action. More precisely, let $(M,ω)$ be a 6-dimensional compact symplectic manifold with a Hamiltonian $T^2$-action. We will show that if the moment map image of $M$ is a GKM-graph and if the graph is index-increasing, then $(M,ω)$ satisfies the hard Lefschetz property.
We discuss BFV deformation quantization of singular symplectic quotient spaces in the special case of linear Hamiltonian torus actions. In particular, we show that the Koszul complex on the moment map of an effective linear Hamiltonian torus action is acyclic. We rephrase the nonpositivity condition of Arms, Gotay and Jennings for linear Hamiltonian torus actions. It follows that reduced spaces of such actions admit continuous star products.
This paper determines a condition that is necessary and sufficient for a metaplectic-c prequantizable symplectic manifold with an effective Hamiltonian torus action to admit an equivariant metaplectic-c prequantization. The condition is evaluated at a fixed point of the momentum map, and is shifted from the one that is known for equivariant prequantization line bundles. Given a metaplectic-c prequantized symplectic manifold with a Hamiltonian energy function, the author previously proposed a condition under which a regular value of the function should be considered a quantized energy level of …
The Chekanov torus was the first known \emph{exotic} torus, a monotone Lagrangian torus that is not Hamiltonian isotopic to the standard monotone Lagrangian torus. We explore the relationship between the Chekanov torus in $S^2 \times S^2$ and a monotone Lagrangian torus which had been introduced before Chekanov's construction \cite{Chekanov}. We prove that the monotone Lagrangian torus fiber in a certain Gelfand--Zeitlin system is Hamiltonian isotopic to the Chekanov torus in $S^2 \times S^2$.
We exhibit monotone Lagrangian tori inside the standard symplectic four-dimensional unit ball that become Hamiltonian isotopic to the Clifford torus, i.e.~the standard product torus, only when considered inside a strictly larger ball (they are not even symplectomorphic to a standard torus inside the unit ball). These tori are then used to construct new examples of symplectic embeddings of toric domains into the unit ball which are symplectically knotted in the sense of J.~Gutt and M.~Usher. We also give a characterisation of the Clifford torus inside the ball as well as the projective plane in…
We prove that the autonomous norm on the group of Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms of the two-dimensional torus is unbounded. We provide explicit examples of Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms with arbitrarily large autonomous norm. For the proofs we construct quasimorphisms on $Ham(T^2)$ and some of them are Calabi.
We construct all possible Hamiltonian torus actions for which all the non-empty reduced spaces are two dimensional (and not single points) and the manifold is connected and compact, or, more generally, the moment map is proper as a map to a convex set. This construction completes the classification of tall complexity one spaces.
All principal orbits of the standard Hamiltonian $T^n$-action on the complex projective space ${\mathbb C}P^n$ are Lagrangian tori.In this article, we prove that most of them are not volume minimizing under Hamiltonian isotopies of ${\mathbb C}P^n$ if the complex dimension $n$ is greater than two, although they are Hamiltonian minimal and Hamiltonian stable.
We study torus actions on symplectic manifolds with proper moment maps in the case that each reduced space is two-dimensional. We provide a complete set of invariants for such spaces. Our proof uses sheaves of groupoids of Hamiltonian spaces.
Suppose that an algebraic torus $G$ acts algebraically on a projective manifold $X$ with generically trivial stabilizers. Then the Zariski closure of the set of pairs $\{(x,y)\in X\times X\mid y=gx \text{for some}g\in G\}$ defines a nonzero equivariant cohomology class $[Δ_G]\in H^*_{G\times G}(X\times X)$. We give an analogue of this construction in the case where $X$ is a compact symplectic manifold endowed with a hamiltonian action of a torus, whose complexification plays the role of $G$. We also prove that the Kirwan map sends the class $[Δ_G]$ to the class of the diagonal in each symplect…
Suppose given an holomorphic and Hamiltonian action of a compact torus $T$ on a polarized Hodge manifold $M$. Assume that the action lifts to the quantizing line bundle, so that there is an induced unitary representation of $T$ on the associated Hardy space. If in addition the moment map is nowhere zero, for each weight $\boldsymbolν$ the $\boldsymbolν$-th isotypical component in the Hardy space of the polarization is finite-dimensional. Assuming that the moment map is transverse to the ray through $\boldsymbolν$, we give a gometric interpretation of the isotypical components associated to the…
We prove that a monotone Lagrangian torus in $S^2\times S^2$ which suitably sits in a symplectic fibration with two sections in its complement is Hamiltonian isotopic to the Clifford torus.
In [GMPS] we proved that the moment map image of a $b$-symplectic toric manifold is a convex $b$-polytope. In this paper we obtain convexity results for the more general case of non-toric hamiltonian torus actions on $b$-symplectic manifolds. The modular weights of the action on the connected components of the exceptional hypersurface play a fundamental role: either they are all zero and the moment map behaves as in classic symplectic one, or they are all nonzero and the moment map behaves as in the toric $b$-symplectic case studied in [GMPS].
Let $(M,ω)$ be a closed $2n$-dimensional symplectic manifold equipped with a Hamiltonian $T^{n-1}$-action. Then Atiyah-Guillemin-Sternberg convexity theorem implies that the image of the moment map is an $(n-1)$-dimensional convex polytope. In this paper, we show that the density function of the Duistermaat-Heckman measure is log-concave on the image of the moment map.
We consider a Hamiltonian action of n-dimensional torus, T^n, on a compact symplectic manifold (M,ω) with d isolated fixed points. For every fixed point p there exists (though not unique) a class a_p in H^*_{T}(M; Q) such that the collection {a_p}, over all fixed points, forms a basis for H^*_{T}(M; Q) as an H^*(BT; Q) module. The map induced by the inclusion, ι^*:H^*_{T}(M; Q) \rightarrow H^*_{T}(M^{T}; Q)= \oplus_{j=1}^{d}Q[x_1, ..., x_n] is injective. We use such classes {a_p} to give necessary and sufficient conditions for f=(f_1, ...,f_d) in \oplus_{j=1}^{d}Q[x_1, ..., x_n] to be in the i…
In this paper, we study Hamiltonian R-actions on symplectic orbifolds [M/S], where R and S are tori. We prove an injectivity theorem and generalize Tolman-Weitsman's proof of the GKM theorem in this setting. The main example is the symplectic reduction X//S of a Hamiltonian T-manifold X by a subtorus S of T. This includes the class of symplectic toric orbifolds. We define the equivariant Chen-Ruan cohomology ring and use the above results to establish a combinatorial method of computing this equivariant Chen-Ruan cohomology in terms of orbifold fixed point data.
We consider symplectic manifolds with Hamiltonian torus actions which are "almost but not quite completely integrable": the dimension of the torus is one less than half the dimension of the manifold. We provide a complete set of invariants for such spaces when they are "centered" and the moment map is proper. In particular, this classifies the moment map preimages of all sufficiently small open sets, which is an important step towards global classification. As an application, we construct a full packing of each of the Grassmanians Gr^+(2,R^5) and Gr^+(2,R^6) by two equal symplectic balls.
The multiplier spectral curve of a conformal torus in the 4-sphere is essentially, see arXiv:0712.2311, given by all Darboux transforms of the conformal torus. In the particular case when the conformal immersion is a Hamiltonian stationary torus in Euclidean 4-space, the left normal of the immersion is harmonic, hence we can associate a second Riemann surface: the eigenline spectral curve of the left normal, as defined by Hitchin. We show that the multiplier spectral curve of a Hamiltonian stationary torus and the eigenline spectral curve of its left normal are biholomorphic Riemann surfaces o…
Let $X$ be the circle bundle associated to a positive line bundle on a complex projective (or, more generally, compact symplectic) manifold. The Tian-Zelditch expansion on $X$ may be seen as a local manifestation of the decomposition of the (generalized) Hardy space $H(X)$ into isotypes for the $S^1$-action. More generally, given a compatible action of a compact Lie group, and under general assumptions guaranteeing finite dimensionality of isotypes, we may look for asymptotic expansions locally reflecting the equivariant decomposition of $H(X)$ over the irreducible representations of the group…
Suppose given a Hamiltonian and holomorphic action of $G=U(2)$ on a compact Kähler manifold $M$, with nowhere vanishing moment map. Given an integral coadjoint orbit $\mathcal{O}$ for $G$, under transversality assumptions we shall consider two naturally associated 'conic', reductions. One, which will be denoted $\overline{M}^G_{\mathcal{O}}$, is taken with respect to the action of $G$ and the cone over $\mathcal{O}$; another, which will be denoted $\overline{M}^T_{\boldsymbolν}$, is taken with respect to the action of the standard maximal torus $T\leqslant G$ and the ray $\mathbb{R}_+\,\imath\…
On the one hand, we prove that the Clifford torus in $\mathbb{C}^2$ is unstable for Lagrangian mean curvature flow under arbitrarily small Hamiltonian perturbations, even though it is Hamiltonian $F$-stable and locally area minimising under Hamiltonian variations. On the other hand, we show that the Clifford torus is rigid: it is locally unique as a self-shrinker for mean curvature flow, despite having infinitesimal deformations which do not arise from rigid motions. The proofs rely on analysing higher order phenomena: specifically, showing that the Clifford torus is not a local entropy minimi…
We use the theory of Berezin-Toeplitz operators of Ma and Marinescu to study the quantum Hamiltonian dynamics associated with classical Hamiltonian flows over closed prequantized symplectic manifolds in the context of geometric quantization of Kostant and Souriau. We express the associated evolution operators via parallel transport in the quantum spaces over the induced path of almost complex structures, and we establish various semi-classical estimates. In particular, we establish a Gutzwiller trace formula for the Kostant-Souriau operator and compute explicitly the leading term. We then desc…
We give a formulation of a deformation of Dirac operator along orbits of a group action on a possibly non-compact manifold to get an equivariant index and a K-homology cycle representing the index. We apply this framework to non-compact Hamiltonian torus manifolds to define geometric quantization from the view point of index theory. We give two applications. The first one is a proof of a [Q,R]=0 type theorem, which can be regarded as a proof of the Vergne conjecture for Abelian case. The other is a Danilov-type formula for toric case in the non-compact setting, which shows that this geometric …
In this work we construct for a given smooth, generic Hamiltonian $H : \mathbb{S}^1\times\mathbb{T}^n \longrightarrow \mathbb{R}$ on the torus a chain isomorphism $ Φ_* : \big(C_*(H),\partial^M_*\big) \longrightarrow \big(C_*(H),\partial^F_*\big)$ between the Morse complex of the Hamiltonian action $A_H$ on the free loop space of the torus $Λ_0(\mathbb{T}^n)$ and the Floer complex. Though both complexes are generated by the critical points of $A_H$, their boundary operators differ. Therefore the construction of $Φ$ is based on counting the moduli spaces of hybrid type solutions which involves …
We prove the invariant of the symplectic capacity for the Zakharov system on a torus. If the Zakharov solution map is well-defined, then it can be regarded as a symplectomorphism. Thus, we first show the global well-posedness via the local well-posedness and the conservation law. The invariant of the symplectic capacity can be obtained using an approximation method. Many authors use an approximation method to obtain the nonsqueezing theorem, instead of an invariant of the symplectic capacity. However, the conditions of the Hamiltonian system introduced by Kuksin can be relaxed by a new modifie…
We complete the classification of Hamiltonian torus and circle actions on symplectic four-dimensional manifolds. Following work of Delzant and Karshon, Hamiltonian circle and 2-torus actions on any fixed simply connected symplectic four-manifold were characterized by Karshon, Kessler and Pinsonnault. What remains is to study the case of Hamiltonian actions on blowups of S^2-bundles over a Riemann surface of positive genus. These do not admit 2-torus actions. In this paper, we characterize Hamiltonian circle actions on them. We then derive combinatorial results on the existence and counting of …
A $g$-tuple of disjoint, linearly independent circles in a Riemann surface of genus $g$ determines a `Heegaard torus' in its $g$-fold symmetric product. Changing the circles by a handleslide produces a new torus. It is proved that, for symplectic forms with certain properties, these two tori are Hamiltonian-isotopic Lagrangian submanifolds. This provides an alternative route to the handleslide-invariance of Ozsvath-Szabo's Heegaard Floer homology.
We characterize completely integrable Hamiltonian systems inducing an effective Hamiltonian torus action as systems with zero transport costs w.r.t. the time-$T$ map where $T \in {\mathbb R}^n$ is the period of the acting $n$-torus.
A Hamiltonian action of a complex torus on a symplectic complex manifold is said to be {\it multiplicity free} if a general orbit is a lagrangian submanifold. To any multiplicity free Hamiltonian action of a complex torus $T\cong (\C^\times)^n$ on a Stein manifold $X$ we assign a certain 5-tuple consisting of a Stein manifold $Y$, an étale map $Y\to \t^*$, a set of divisors on $Y$ and elements of $H^2(Y,\Z)^{\oplus n}, H^2(Y,\C)$. We show that $X$ is uniquely determined by this invariants. Furthermore, we describe all 5-tuples arising in this way.
A simple Hamiltonian manifold is a closed connected symplectic manifold equipped with a Hamiltonian action of a torus T with moment map Phi: M-->t^*, such that the fixed set M^T has exactly two connected components, denoted M_0 and M_1. We study the differential and symplectic geometry of simple Hamiltonian manifolds, including a large number of examples.
We define new Hamiltonian isotopy invariants for a monotone Lagrangian torus embedded in a symplectic 4-manifold. We show that, in the standard symplectic 4-space, these invariants distinguish a monotone Clifford torus from a Chekanov torus.
We prove the Hamiltonian unknottedness of real Lagrangian tori in the monotone $S^2\times S^2$, namely any real Lagrangian torus in $S^2\times S^2$ is Hamiltonian isotopic to the Clifford torus $\mathbb{T}_{\text{Clif}}$. The proof is based on a neck-stretching argument, Gromov's foliation theorem, and the Cieliebak-Schwingenheuer criterion.
We prove that the count of Maslov index 2 $J$-holomorphic discs passing through a generic point of a real Lagrangian submanifold in a closed spherically monotone symplectic manifold must be even. As a corollary, we exhibit a genuine real symplectic phenomenon in terms of involutions, namely that the Chekanov torus $\mathbb{T}_{\text{Chek}}$ in $S^2\times S^2$, which is a monotone Lagrangian torus not Hamiltonian isotopic to the Clifford torus $\mathbb{T}_{\text{Clif}}$, can be seen as the fixed point set of a smooth involution, but not of an antisymplectic involution.
This note is an addendum to our earlier work \cite{humi}. In \cite{humi}, we studied a Hamiltonian action for a generalized Calabi-Yau manifold and showed that the Duistermaat-Heckman theorem holds. The purpose of this note is to show that the density function of the Duistermaa-Heckman measure is a piecewise polynomial. We also prove that the localization formula holds.
We present a classification of compact Kaehler manifolds admitting a hamiltonian 2-form (which were classified locally in part I of this work). This involves two components of independent interest. The first is the notion of a rigid hamiltonian torus action. This natural condition, for torus actions on a Kaehler manifold, was introduced locally in part I, but such actions turn out to be remarkably well behaved globally, leading to a fairly explicit classification: up to a blow-up, compact Kaehler manifolds with a rigid hamiltonian torus action are bundles of toric Kaehler manifolds. The second…
Let M be a compact, connected symplectic 2n-dimensional manifold on which an(n-2)-dimensional torus T acts effectively and Hamiltonianly. Under the assumption that there is an effective complementary 2-torus acting on M with symplectic orbits, we show that the Duistermaat-Heckman measure of the T-action is log-concave. This verifies the logarithmic concavity conjecture for a class of inequivalent T-actions. Then we use this conjecture to prove the following: if there is an effective symplectic action of an (n-2)-dimensional torus T on a compact, connected symplectic 2n-dimensional manifold tha…
