We demonstrate advantages of non-standard grading for computing cohomology of restricted Hamiltonian and Poisson algebras. These algebras contain the inner grading element in the properly defined symmetric grading compatible with the symplectic structure. Using modulo p analog of the theorem on the structure of cohomology of Lie algebra with inner grading element, we show that all nontrivial cohomology classes are located in the grades which are the multiples of the characteristic p. Besides, this grading implies another symmetries in the structure of cohomology. These symmetries are based on the Poincare duality and symmetry with respect to transpositions of conjugate variables of the symplectic space. Some results obtained by computer program utilizing these peculiarities in the cohomology structure are presented.
We construct a canonical map from the Poisson vertex algebra cohomology complex to the differential Harrison cohomology complex, which restricts to an isomorphism on the top degree. This is an important step in the computation of Poisson vertex algebra and vertex algebra cohomologies.
We review cohomology theories corresponding to the chiral and classical operads. The first one is the cohomology theory of vertex algebras, while the second one is the classical cohomology of Poisson vertex algebras (PVA), and we construct a spectral sequence relating them. Since in "good" cases the classical PVA cohomology coincides with the variational PVA cohomology and there are well-developed methods to compute the latter, this enables us to compute the cohomology of vertex algebras in many interesting cases. Finally, we describe a unified approach to integrability through vanishing of th…
We develop methods for computation of Poisson vertex algebra cohomology. This cohomology is computed for the free bosonic and fermionic Poisson vertex (super)algebras, as well as for the universal affine and Virasoro Poisson vertex algebras. We establish finite dimensionality of this cohomology for conformal Poisson vertex (super)algebras that are finitely and freely generated by elements of positive conformal weight.
We give new applications of graded Lie algebras to: identities of standard polynomials, deformation theory of quadratic Lie algebras, cyclic cohomology of quadratic Lie algebras, $2k$-Lie algebras, generalized Poisson brackets and so on.
We study homological properties of a family of algebras called toupie algebras. Our main objective is to obtain the Gerstenhaber structure of their Hochschild cohomology, with the purpose of describing the Lie algebra structure of the first Hochschild cohomology space, together with the Lie module structure of the whole Hochschild cohomology.
We compute the Hochschild cohomology groups of gentle algebras and show that they are determined by the derived invariant introduced by Avella-Alaminos and Geiss.
In this paper, we define and develop a cohomology and deformation theories of Jacobi-Jordan algebras. We construct a cohomology based on two operators, called zigzag cohomology, and detail the low degree cohomology spaces. We describe the relationships between first and second cohomology groups with extensions and deformations. Moreover, we consider cohomology properties of pseudo-euclidean Jacobi-Jordan algebras and provide a deformation theory that fits with our zigzag cohomology of Jacobi-Jordan algebras. Furthermore, the paper includes several examples and applications.
In this paper, we review the construction of the Dirac operator for graded affine Hecke algebras and calculate the Dirac cohomology of irreducible unitary modules for the graded Hecke algebra of gl(n).
Dirac cohomology is a new tool to study unitary and admissible representations of semisimple Lie groups. It was introduced by Vogan and further studied by Kostant and ourselves \cite{V2}, \cite{HP1}, \cite{Kdircoh}. The aim of this paper is to study the Dirac cohomology for the Kostant cubic Dirac operator and its relation to Lie algebra cohomology. We show that the Dirac cohomology coincides with the corresponding nilpotent Lie algebra cohomology in many cases, while in general it has better algebraic behavior and it is more accessible for calculation.
We show that the ordinary cohomology functor from the category of augmented $k$-algebras to itself exchanges coproducts and products, and that Hochschild cohomology is close to sending coproducts to products if the factors are self-injective. We identify the multiplicative structure of the Hochschild cohomology of a product modulo a certain ideal in terms of the cohomology of the factors.
We show that the cohomology for some 2-generated selfinjective algebras is finitely generated. This applies in particular to the algebras $A5(β)$ for $β\neq 0$ in the classification of connected Hopf algebras of dimension $p^3$ over characteristic $p$ by Nguyen-Wang-Wang.
Tate-Hochschild cohomology of an algebra is a generalization of ordinary Hochschild cohomology, which is defined on positive and negative degrees and has a ring structure. Our purpose of this paper is to study the eventual periodicity of an algebra by using the Tate-Hochschild cohomology ring. First, we deal with eventually periodic algebras and show that they are not necessarily Gorenstein algebras. Secondly, we characterize the eventual periodicity of a Gorenstein algebra as the existence of an invertible homogeneous element of the Tate-Hochschild cohomology ring of the algebra, which is our…
A morphism Lie algebra is a triple $(\mathfrak{g}, \mathfrak{h}, ϕ)$ consisting of two Lie algebras $\mathfrak{g}, \mathfrak{h}$ and a Lie algebra homomorphism $ϕ: \mathfrak{g} \rightarrow \mathfrak{h}$. We define representations and cohomology of morphism Lie algebras. As applications of our cohomology, we study some aspects of deformations, abelian extensions of morphism Lie algebras and classify skeletal morphism sh Lie algebras. Finally, we consider the cohomology of morphism Lie groups and find a relation with the cohomology of morphism Lie algebras.
In this paper we determine the first Hochschild homology and cohomology with different coefficients for gentle algebras and we give a geometrical interpretation of these (co)homologies using the ribbon graph of a gentle algebra as defined in earlier work by the second author. We give an explicit description of the Lie algebra structure of the first Hochschild cohomology of gentle and Brauer graph algebras (with multiplicity one) based on trivial extensions of gentle algebras and we show how the Hochschild cohomology is encoded in the Brauer graph. In particular, we show that except in one low-…
We describe the dimensions of low Hochschild cohomology spaces of exceptional periodic representation-infinite algebras of polynomial growth. As an application we obtain that an indecomposable non-standard periodic representation-infinite algebra of polynomial growth is not derived equivalent to a standard self-injective algebra.
This paper studies averaging algebras, say, associative algebras endowed with averaging operators. We develop a cohomology theory for averaging algebras and justify it by interpreting lower degree cohomology groups as formal deformations and abelian extensions of averaging algebras. We make explicit the $L_\infty$-algebra structure over the cochain complex defining cohomology groups and introduce the notion of homotopy averaging algebras as Maurer-Cartan elements of this $L_\infty$-algebra.
We explicitly calculate a projective bimodule resolution for a special biserial algebra giving rise to the Hecke algebra H_q(S_4) when q=-1. We then determine the dimensions of the Hochschild cohomology groups.
We compute the Hochschild cohomology of any block of $q$-Schur algebras. We focus the even part of this Hochschild cohomology ring. To compute the Hochschild cohomology of $q$-Schur algebras, we prove the following two results: first, we construct two graded algebra surjections between the Hochschild cohomologies of quasi-hereditary algebras because all $q$-Schur algebras over a field are quasi-hereditary. Second, we give the graded algebra isomorphism of Hochschild cohomologies by using a certain derived equivalence.
This note presents a general theorem about the cohomology of finite dimensional Lie algebras of arbitrary characteristic. As an application we compute the cohomology of the Borel subalgebra of sl(N).
We calculate the dimensions of the Hochschild cohomology groups of a self-injective special biserial algebra $Λ_{s}$ obtained by a circular quiver with double arrows. Moreover, we give a presentation of the Hochschild cohomology ring modulo nilpotence of $Λ_{s}$ by generators and relations. This result shows that the Hochschild cohomology ring modulo nilpotence of $Λ_{s}$ is finitely generated as an algebra.
We compute the Hochschild Cohomology of a finite-dimensional preprojective algebra of generalized Dynkin type Ln over a field of characteristic different from 2 . In particular, we describe the ring structure of the Hochschild Cohomology ring under the Yoneda product by giving an explicit presentation by generators and relations.
For algebras with radical square zero, we give a combinatorial description to the Tate-Hochschild cohomology. We compute the Gerstenhaber algebra structure on the Tate-Hochschild cohomology for some classes of such algebras.
In this paper, we define representations and cohomology of weighted Rota-Baxter Lie algebras. As applications of cohomology, we study abelian extensions and formal $1$-parameter deformations weighted Rota-Baxter Lie algebras. Finally, we consider weighted Rota-Baxter paired operators that induces a weighted Rota-Baxter Lie algebra and a representation of it. We define suitable cohomology for such paired operators that govern deformation.
We give a basis for the Hochschild cohomology ring of tame Hecke algebras. We then show that the Hochschild cohomology ring modulo nilpotence is a finitely generated algebra of Krull dimension 2, and describe the support varieties of modules for these algebras. As a consequence we obtain the result that the Hochschild cohomology ring modulo nilpotence of a Hecke algebra has Krull dimension 1 if the algebra is of finite type and has Krull dimension 2 if the algebra is of tame type.
Deformation theory can be used to compute the cohomology of a deformed algebra with coefficients in itself from that of the original. Using the invariance of the Euler-Poincare characteristic under deformation, it is applied here to compute the cohomology of the Weyl algebra, the algebra of the quantum plane, and the q-Weyl algebra. The behavior of the cohomology when q is a root of unity may encode some number theoretic information.
For a truncated quiver algebra over a field of arbitrary characteristic, its Hochschild cohomology is calculated. Moreover, it is shown that its Hochschild cohomology algebra is finite-dimensional if and only if its global dimension is finite if and only if its quiver has no oriented cycles.
We consider a class of self-injective special biserial algebras $Λ_N$ over a field $K$ and show that the Hochschild cohomology ring of $Λ_N$ is a finitely generated $K$-algebra. Moreover the Hochschild cohomology ring of $Λ_N$ modulo nilpotence is a finitely generated commutative $K$-algebra of Krull dimension two. As a consequence the conjecture of Snashall-Solberg \cite{SS}, concerning the Hochschild cohomology ring modulo nilpotence, holds for this class of algebras.
We study the existence of a Batalin-Vilkovisky differential on the complete cohomology ring of a Frobenius algebra. We construct a Batalin-Vilkovisky differential on the complete cohomology ring in the case of Frobenius algebras with diagonalizable Nakayama automorphisms.
We introduce for any Poisson algebra a bicomplex of free Poisson modules, and use it to show that the Poisson cohomology theory introduced in the paper "[M. Flato, M. Gerstenhaber and A. A. Voronov, Cohomology and Deformation of Leibniz Pairs, Lett. Math. Phys. 34 (1995) 77--90]" is given by certain derived functor. Moreover, by constructing a long exact sequence connecting Poisson cohomology groups and Yoneda-extension groups of certain quasi-Poisson modules, we provide a way to compute this Poisson cohomology via the Lie algebra cohomology and the Hochschild cohomology.
We prove that the cohomology algebra of a conilpotent Lie coalgebra is generated in degree 1 as an A-infinity algebra. By dualizing, the same is true about cohomology algebras of finite dimensional nilpotent Lie algebras. In the process, we provide a proof of the conilpotent version of the dual Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt theorem.
Our aim in this paper is to investigate the first Hochschild cohomology of {\em admissible algebras} which can be seen as a generalization of basic algebras. For this purpose, we study differential operators on an admissible algebra. Firstly, differential operators from a path algebra to its quotient algebra as an admissible algebra are discussed. Based on this discussion, the first cohomology with admissible algebras as coefficient modules is characterized, including their dimension formula. Besides, for planar quivers, the $k$-linear bases of the first cohomology of acyclic complete monomial…
Recently, relative Rota-Baxter (Lie/associative) algebras are extensively studied in the literature from cohomological points of view. In this paper, we consider relative Rota-Baxter Leibniz algebras (rRB Leibniz algebras) as the object of our study. We construct an $L_\infty$-algebra that characterizes rRB Leibniz algebras as its Maurer-Cartan elements. Then we define representations of an rRB Leibniz algebra and introduce cohomology with coefficients in a representation. As applications of cohomology, we study deformations and abelian extensions of rRB Leibniz algebras.
We give an explicit approach for Bockstein homomorphisms of the Hochschild cohomology of a group algebra and of a block algebra of a finite group and we show some properties. To give explicit definitions for these maps we use an additive decomposition and a Product Formula for the Hochschild cohomology of group algebras given by Siegel and Witherspoon in 1999. For k an algebraically closed field of characteristic p and G a finite group we prove an additive decomposition and a Product Formula for the cohomology algebra of a defect group of a block ideal of kG with coefficients in the source alg…
In this paper, we compute the product structure of the Hochschild cohomology of preprojective algebras of quivers of type D and E over a field of characteristic zero.
In this paper the authors investigate the structure the restricted Lie algebra cohomology of p-nilpotent Lie algebras with trivial p-power operation. Our study is facilitated by a spectral sequence whose $E_{2}$-term is the tensor product of the symmetric algebra on the dual of the Lie algebra with the ordinary Lie algebra cohomology and converges to the restricted cohomology ring. In many cases this spectral sequence collapses, and thus, the restricted Lie algebra cohomology is Cohen-Macaulay. A stronger result involves the collapsing of the spectral sequence and the cohomology ring identifyi…
The aim of this paper is to provide cohomologies of $n$-ary Hom-Nambu-Lie algebras governing central extensions and one parameter formal deformations. We generalize to $n$-ary algebras the notions of derivations and representation introduced by Sheng for Hom-Lie algebras. Also we show that a cohomology of $n$-ary Hom-Nambu-Lie algebras could be derived from the cohomology of Hom-Leibniz algebras.
We study cup product and cap product in Tate-Hochschild theory for a finite dimensional Frobenius algebra. We show that Tate-Hochschild cohomology ring equipped with cup product is isomorphic to singular Hochschild cohomology ring introduced by Wang. An application of cap product occurs in Tate-Hochschild duality; as in Tate (co)homology of a finite group, the cap product with the fundamental class of a finite dimensional Frobenius algebra provides certain duality result between Tate-Hochschild cohomology and homology groups. Moreover, we characterize minimal complete resolutions over a finite…
We compute the cohomology with trivial coefficients of two graded infinite-dimensional Lie algebras of maximal class, give explicit formulas for their representative cocycles. Also we discuss the relations with combinatorics and representation theory.
In this dissertation, we investigate the cohomology theory of restricted Lie algebras. The representation theory of restricted Lie algebras is reviewed including a description of the restricted universal enveloping algebra. In the case of an abelian restricted Lie algebra, we construct an augmented complex of free modules over the enveloping algebra that is exact in dimensions less than p and hence define the cohomology theory of these algebras in dimension less than p. In the non-abelian case, we explicitly construct cochain spaces for any coefficient module in dimensions less than 3, and giv…
We compute explicitly the adjoint cohomology of two N-graded Lie algebras of maximal class (infinite dimensional filiform Lie algebras) m_0 and m_2. It is known that up to an isomorphism there are only three N-graded Lie algebras of the maximal class. The third algebra from this list is the "positive" part L_1 of the Witt (or Virasoro) algebra and its adjoint cohomology was computed earlier by Feigin and Fukhs. We show that the total space H*(m_j,m_j) is "almost" isomorphic to the completed tensor product of the algebra m_j by scalar cohomology space H^*(m_j), j=0,2.
By work of Farinati, Solberg, and Taillefer, it is known that the Hopf algebra cohomology of a quasi-triangular Hopf algebra, as a graded Lie algebra under the Gerstenhaber bracket, is abelian. Motivated by the question of whether this holds for nonquasi-triangular Hopf algebras, we show that Gerstenhaber brackets on Hopf algebra cohomology can be expressed via an arbitrary projective resolution using Volkov's homotopy liftings as generalized to some exact monoidal categories. This is a special case of our more general result that a bracket operation on cohomology is preserved under exact mono…
In this paper, we establish the cohomology of relative Rota-Baxter operators on Lie-Yamaguti algebras via the Yamaguti cohomology. Then we use this type of cohomology to characterize deformations of relative Rota-Baxter operators on Lie-Yamaguti algebras. We show that if two linear or formal deformations of a relative Rota-Baxter operator are equivalent, then their infinitesimals are in the same cohomology class in the first cohomology group. Moreover, an order $n$ deformation of a relative Rota-Baxter operator can be extended to an order $n+1$ deformation if and only if the obstruction class …
In this paper we prove some general results on Leibniz 2-cocycles for simple Leibniz algebras. Applying these results we establish the triviality of the second Leibniz cohomology for a simple Leibniz algebra with coefficients in itself, whose associated Lie algebra is isomorphic to $\mathfrak{sl}_2$.
This paper is devoted to studying deformation, cohomology theory of Rota-Baxter pre-Lie algebras of arbitrary weights. First we give the notion of a new representation of a Rota-Baxter pre-Lie algebra of arbitrary weight and define the cohomology theory of a Rota-Baxter pre-Lie algebra of arbitrary weight. Then we study formal deformations by lower degree cohomology groups. Finally, we classify abelian extensions of Rota-Baxter pre-Lie algebras of arbitrary weight using the second cohomology group, and classify skeletal Rota-Baxter pre-Lie 2-algebra of arbitrary weight using the third cohomolo…
Symonds' proof of Benson's regularity conjecture implies that the regularity of the cohomology of a fusion system and that of the Hochschild cohomology of a p-block of a finite group is at most zero. Using results of Benson, Greenlees, and Symonds, we show that in both cases the regularity is equal to zero.
The purpose of this paper is to define cohomology structures on Hom-associative algebras and Hom-Lie algebras. The first and second coboundary maps were introduced by Makhlouf and Silvestrov in the study of one-parameter formal deformations theory. Among the relevant formulas for a generalization of Hochschild cohomology for Hom-associative algebras and a Chevalley-Eilenberg cohomology for Hom-Lie algebras, we define Gerstenhaber bracket on the space of multilinear mappings of Hom-associative algebras and Nijenhuis-Richardson bracket on the space of multilinear mappings of Hom-Lie algebras. Al…
Let A be any finite dimensional Hopf algebra over a field k. We specify the Tate and Tate-Hochschild cohomology for A and introduce cup products that make them become graded rings. We establish the relationship between these rings. In particular, the Tate-Hochschild cohomology of A is isomorphic (as algebras) to its Tate cohomology with coefficients in an adjoint module. Consequently, the Tate cohomology ring of A is a direct summand of its Tate-Hochschild cohomology ring. As an example, we explicitly compute both the Tate and Tate-Hochschild cohomology for the Sweedler algebra H_4.
Keller proved in 1999 that the Gerstenhaber algebra structure on the Hochschild cohomology of an algebra is an invariant of the derived category. In this paper, we adapt his approach to show that the Gerstenhaber algebra structure on the Tate-Hochschild cohomology of an algebra is preserved under singular equivalences of Morita type with level, a notion introduced by the author in previous work.
We prove finite generation of the cohomology ring of any finite dimensional pointed Hopf algebra, having abelian group of grouplike elements, under some mild restrictions on the group order. The proof uses the recent classification by Andruskiewitsch and Schneider of such Hopf algebras. Examples include all of Lusztig's small quantum groups, whose cohomology was first computed explicitly by Ginzburg and Kumar, as well as many new pointed Hopf algebras. We also show that in general the cohomology ring of a Hopf algebra in a braided category is braided commutative. As a consequence we obtain som…
A cohomology theory of weighted Rota-Baxter $3$-Lie algebras is introduced. Formal deformations, abelian extensions, skeletal weighted Rota-Baxter $3$-Lie 2-algebras and crossed modules of weighted Rota-Baxter 3-Lie algebras are interpreted by using lower degree cohomology groups.
