We give a basis for the Hochschild cohomology ring of tame Hecke algebras. We then show that the Hochschild cohomology ring modulo nilpotence is a finitely generated algebra of Krull dimension 2, and describe the support varieties of modules for these algebras. As a consequence we obtain the result that the Hochschild cohomology ring modulo nilpotence of a Hecke algebra has Krull dimension 1 if the algebra is of finite type and has Krull dimension 2 if the algebra is of tame type.
We explicitly calculate a projective bimodule resolution for a special biserial algebra giving rise to the Hecke algebra H_q(S_4) when q=-1. We then determine the dimensions of the Hochschild cohomology groups.
Let H = H (R,q) be an affine Hecke algebra with complex, possibly unequal parameters q, which are not roots of unity. We compute the Hochschild and the cyclic homology of H. It turns out that these are independent of q and that they admit an easy description in terms of the extended quotient of a torus by a Weyl group, both of which are canonically associated to the root datum R. For q positive we also prove that the representations of the family of algebras H (R,q^ε) come in families which depend analytically on the complex number ε. Analogous results are obtained for graded Hecke algebras an…
We use the dimension and the Lie algebra structure of the first Hochschild cohomology group to distinguish some algebras of dihedral, semi-dihedral and quaternion type up to stable equivalence of Morita type. In particular, we complete the classification of algebras of dihedral type that was mostly determined by Zhou and Zimmermann.
We give a detailed calculation of the Hochschild and cyclic homology of the algebra $\CIc(G)$ of locally constant, compactly supported functions on a reductive p-adic group G. We use these calculations to extend to arbitrary elements the definition the higher orbital integrals introduced in \cite{Blanc-Brylinski} for regular semisimple elements. Then we extend to higher orbital integrals some results of Shalika. We also investigate the effect of the ``induction morphism'' on Hochschild homology.
We develop and collect techniques for determining Hochschild cohomology of skew group algebras S(V)#G and apply our results to graded Hecke algebras. We discuss the explicit computation of certain types of invariants under centralizer subgroups, focusing on the infinite family of complex reflection groups G(r,p,n) to illustrate our ideas. Resulting formulas for Hochschild two-cocycles give information about deformations of S(V)#G and, in particular, about graded Hecke algebras. We expand the definition of a graded Hecke algebra to allow a nonfaithful action of G on V, and we show that there ex…
Let $F$ be a non-archimedean local field of residue characteristic $p\neq 2$. Let $G$ be a connected reductive group over $F$ that splits over a tamely ramified extension of $F$. Yu constructed types which are called tame supercuspidal types and conjectured that Hecke algebras associated with these types are isomorphic to Hecke algebras associated with depth-zero types of some twisted Levi subgroups of $G$. In this paper, we prove this conjecture. We also prove that the Hecke algebra associated with a regular supercuspidal type is isomorphic to the group algebra of a certain abelian group.
In this paper we study sufficient conditions for the solvability of the first Hochschild cohomology of a finite dimensional algebra as a Lie algebra in terms of its Ext-quiver in arbitrary characteristic. In particular, we show that if the quiver has no parallel arrows and no loops then the first Hochschild cohomology is solvable. For quivers containing loops, we determine easily verifiable sufficient conditions for the solvability of the first Hochschild cohomology. We apply these criteria to show the solvability of the first Hochschild cohomology space for large families of algebras, namely,…
We determine a basis of the cocenter (i.e., the zeroth Hochschild homology) of the degenerate affine Hecke-Clifford and spin Hecke algebras in classical types.
In this paper we determine the second Hochschild cohomology group for a class of self-injective algebras of tame representation type namely, those which are standard one-parametric but not weakly symmetric. These were classifed up to derived equivalence by Bocian, Holm and Skowroński. We connect this to the deformation of these algebras.
The objective of this paper is to give a concrete interpretation of the dimension of the first Hochschild cohomology space of a cyclically oriented or tame cluster tilted algebra in terms of a numerical invariant arising from the potential.
Hochschild cohomology governs deformations of algebras, and its graded Lie structure plays a vital role. We study this structure for the Hochschild cohomology of the skew group algebra formed by a finite group acting on an algebra by automorphisms. We examine the Gerstenhaber bracket with a view toward deformations and developing bracket formulas. We then focus on the linear group actions and polynomial algebras that arise in orbifold theory and representation theory; deformations in this context include graded Hecke algebras and symplectic reflection algebras. We give some general results des…
Let H be a graded Hecke algebra with complex deformation parameters and Weyl group W. We show that the Hochschild, cyclic and periodic cyclic homologies of H are all independent of the parameters, and compute them explicitly. We use this to prove that, if the deformation parameters are real, the collection of irreducible tempered H-modules with real central character forms a Q-basis of the representation ring of W. Our method involves a new interpretation of the periodic cyclic homology of finite type algebras, in terms of the cohomology of a sheaf over the underlying complex affine variety.
Given a cluster-tilted algebra B, we study its first Hochschild cohomology group HH^1(B) with coefficients in the B-B-bimodule B. If C is a tilted algebra such that B is the relation extension of C, then we show that if C is constrained, or else if B is tame, then HH^1(B) is isomorphic, as a k-vector space, to the direct sum of HH^1(C) with k^{n\_{B,C}}, where n\_{B,C} is an invariant linking the bound quivers of B and C. In the representation-finite case, HH^1(B) can be read off simply by looking at the quiver of B.
For an arbitrary finite-dimensional algebra $A$, we introduce a general approach to determining when its first Hochschild cohomology ${\rm HH}^1(A)$, considered as a Lie algebra, is solvable. If $A$ is moreover of tame or finite representation type, we are able to describe ${\rm HH}^1(A)$ as the direct sum of a solvable Lie algebra and a sum of copies of $\mathfrak{sl}_2$. We proceed to determine the exact number of such copies, and give an explicit formula for this number in terms of certain chains of Kronecker subquivers of the quiver of $A$. As a corollary, we obtain a precise answer to a q…
We give Erdmann-Nakano type theorem for the finite quiver Hecke algebras $R^{Λ_0}(β)$ of affine type $A^{(1)}_{\ell}$. Note that each finite quiver Hecke algebra lies in one parameter family, and the original Erdmann-Nakano theorem studied the finite quiver Hecke algebra at a special parameter value. We study the general case in our paper. Our result shows in particular that their representation type does not depend on the parameter. Moreover, when the parameter value is nonzero, we show that finite quiver Hecke algebras of tame representation type are biserial algebras.
In our recent papers the centralizer construction was applied to the series of classical Lie algebras to produce the quantum algebras called (twisted) Yangians. Here we extend this construction to the series of the symmetric groups S(n). We study the `stable' properties of the centralizers of S(n-m) in the group algebra C[S(n)] as n increases with m fixed. We construct a limit centralizer algebra A and describe its algebraic structure. The algebra A turns out to be closely related with the degenerate affine Hecke algebras. We also show that the so-called tame representations of the infinite sy…
We describe a new geometric model for the Hochschild cohomology of Soergel bimodules based on the monodromic Hecke category studied earlier by the first author and Yun. Moreover, we identify the objects representing individual Hochschild cohomology groups (for the zero and the top degree cohomology this reduces to an earlier result of Gorsky, Hogancamp, Mellit and Nakagane). These objects turn out to be closely related to explicit character sheaves corresponding to exterior powers of the reflection representation of the Weyl group. Applying the described functors to the images of braids in the…
We consider finite groups acting on quantum (or skew) polynomial rings. Deformations of the semidirect product of the quantum polynomial ring with the acting group extend symplectic reflection algebras and graded Hecke algebras to the quantum setting over a field of arbitrary characteristic. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for such algebras to satisfy a Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt property using the theory of noncommutative Groebner bases. We include applications to the case of abelian groups and the case of groups acting on coordinate rings of quantum planes. In addition, we classify g…
We use the theory of varieties for modules arising from Hochschild cohomology to give an alternative version of the wildness criterion of Bergh and Solberg: If a finite dimensional self-injective algebra has a module of complexity at least 3 and satisfies some finiteness assumptions on Hochschild cohomology, then the algebra is wild. We show directly how this is related to the analogous theory for Hopf algebras that we developed. We give applications to many different types of algebras: Hecke algebras, reduced universal enveloping algebras, small half-quantum groups, and Nichols (quantum symme…
The article is a contribution to the local theory of geometric Langlands correspondence. The main result is a categorification of the isomorphism between the (extended) affine Hecke algebra, thought of as an algebra of Iwahori bi-invariant functions on a semi-simple group over a local non-Archimedian field, and Grothendieck group of equivariant coherent sheaves on Steinberg variety of the Langlands dual group; this isomorphism due to Kazhdan--Lusztig and Ginzburg is a key step in the proof of tamely ramified local Langlands conjectures. The paper is a continuation of an earlier joint work with…
The deformation theory of an algebra is controlled by the Gerstenhaber bracket, a Lie bracket on Hochschild cohomology. We develop techniques for evaluating Gerstenhaber brackets of semidirect product algebras recording actions of finite groups over fields of positive characteristic. The Hochschild cohomology and Gerstenhaber bracket of these skew group algebras can be complicated when the characteristic of the underlying field divides the group order. We show how to investigate Gerstenhaber brackets using twisted product resolutions, which are often smaller and more convenient than the cumber…
Let $W$ be a finite Weyl group of classical type which may not be irreducible, $F$ an algebraically closed field, $q$ an invertible element of $F$. We denote by $\mathcal H_W(q)$ the associated Hecke algebra. If $q=1$ then it is $FW$ and we know the representation type. Thus, we assume that $q\ne 1$. Let $P_W(x)$ be the Poincare polynomial of $W$. It is well-known that $\mathcal H_W(q)$ is semisimple if and only if $x-q$ does not divide $P_W(x)$. We show that the similar results hold for finiteness, tameness and wildness. In other words, the Poincare polynomial governs the representation type …
We give an explicit description of the trace, or Hochschild homology, of the quantum Heisenberg category defined by Licata and Savage. We also show that as an algebra, it is isomorphic to "half" of a central extension of the elliptic Hall algebra of Burban and Schiffmann, specialized at $σ= \barσ^{-1} = q$. A key step in the proof may be of independent interest: we show that the sum (over $n$) of the Hochschild homologies of the positive affine Hecke algebras $\mathrm{AH}_n^+$ is again an algebra, and that this algebra injects into both the elliptic Hall algebra and the trace of the $q$-Heisen…
We give a geometric interpretation of the Jones-Ocneanu trace on the Hecke algebra, using the equivariant cohomology of sheaves on SL(n). This construction makes sense for all simple algebraic groups, so we obtain a generalization of the Jones-Ocneanu trace to Hecke algebras of other types. We give a geometric expansion of this trace in terms of the irreducible characters of the Hecke algebra, and conclude that it agrees with a trace defined independently by Gomi. Based on our proof, we also prove that certain simple perverse sheaves on a reductive algebraic group G are equivariantly formal fo…
We study the algebraic properties of the five-parameter family $H(t_1,t_2,t_3,t_4;q)$ of double affine Hecke algebras of type $C^\vee C_1$. This family generalizes Cherednik's double affine Hecke algebras of rank 1. It was introduced by Sahi and studied by Noumi and Stokman as an algebraic structure which controls Askey-Wilson polynomials. We show that if $q=1$, then the spectrum of the center of $H$ is an affine cubic surface $C$, obtained from a projective one by removing a triangle consisting of smooth points. Moreover, any such surface is obtained as the spectrum of the center of $H$ for s…
We introduce an $A_\infty$-algebra structure on the Hochschild cohomology of the endomorphism bimodule of a finite-dimensional representation of an associative algebra. We prove that this structure determines a presentation for non-commutative deformations of the representation. From this, we deduce presentations of universal deformation rings of Galois representations. In turn, we apply these presentations in order to deduce universal deformation rings of Galois pseudorepresentations, supplying a a tangent and obstruction theory for pseudorepresentations. This generalizes the broadly used tan…
We investigate deformations of a skew group algebra that arise from a finite group acting on a polynomial ring. When the characteristic of the underlying field divides the order of the group, a new type of deformation emerges that does not occur in characteristic zero. This analogue of Lusztig's graded affine Hecke algebra for positive characteristic can not be forged from the template of symplectic reflection and related algebras as originally crafted by Drinfeld. By contrast, we show that in characteristic zero, for arbitrary finite groups, a Lusztig-type deformation is always isomorphic to …
