The multiplicative group of a global field acts on its adele ring by multiplication. We consider the crossed product algebra of the resulting action on the space of Schwartz functions on the adele ring and compute its Hochschild, cyclic and periodic cyclic homology. We also compute the topological K-theory of the C*-algebra crossed product.
A generalization of the usual ideles group is proposed, namely, we construct certain adelic complexes for sheaves of $K$-groups on schemes. More generally, such complexes are defined for any abelian sheaf on a scheme. We focus on the case when the sheaf is associated to the presheaf of a homology theory with certain natural axioms, satisfied by $K$-theory. In this case it is proven that the adelic complex provides a flasque resolution for the above sheaf and that the natural morphism to the Gersten complex is a quasiisomorphism. The main advantage of the new adelic resolution is that it is con…
Let $Γ\subset SL(2, \mathbb Z)$ be a finite subgroup acting on the irrational rotational algebra $\mathcal A_θ$ via the restriction of the canonical action of $SL(2,\mathbb Z)$. Consider the crossed product algebra $\mathcal A_θ^{alg} \rtimes Γ$ obtained by the restriction of the $Γ$ action on the algberaic irrational rotational algebra. In this paper we prove many results on the homology group of the crossed product algebra $\mathcal A_θ^{alg} \rtimes Γ$. We also analyse the case of the smooth crossed product algebra, $\mathcal A_θ\rtimes Γ$ and calculate some of its homology groups.
Let k be a field, A a unitary associative k-algebra and V a k-vector space endowed with a distinguished element 1_V. We obtain a mixed complex, simpler that the canonical one, that gives the Hochschild, cyclic, negative and periodic homology of a crossed product E:=A#_f V, in the sense of Brzezinski. We actually work in the more general context of relative cyclic homology. Specifically, we consider a subalgebra K of A that satisfies suitable hypothesis and we find a mixed complex computing the Hochschild, cyclic, negative and periodic homology of E relative to K. Then, when E is a cleft braide…
$HC_*(A \rtimes G)$ is the cyclic homology of the crossed product algebra $A \rtimes G.$ For any $g εG$ we will define a homomorphism from $HC_*^g(A),$ the twisted cylic homology of $A$ with respect to $g,$ to $HC_*(A \rtimes G).$ If $G$ is the finite cyclic group generated by $g$ and $|G|=r$ is invertible in $k,$ then $HC_*(A \rtimes G)$ will be isomorphic to a direct sum of $r$ copies of $HC_*^g(A).$ For the case where $|G|$ is finite and $Q \subset k$ we will generalize the Karoubi and Connes periodicity exact sequences for $HC_*^g(A)$ to Karoubi and Connes periodicity exact sequences for $…
We introduce the cylindrical module $A \natural \mathcal{H}$, where $\mathcal{H}$ is a Hopf algebra and $A$ is a Hopf module algebra over $\mathcal{H}$. We show that there exists an isomorphism between $\mathsf{C}_{\bullet}(A^{op} \rtimes \mathcal{H}^{cop})$ the cyclic module of the crossed product algebra $A^{op} \rtimes \mathcal{H}^{cop} $, and $Δ(A \natural \mathcal{H}) $, the cyclic module related to the diagonal of $A \natural \mathcal{H}$. If $S$, the antipode of $\mathcal{H}$, is invertible it follows that $\mathsf{C}_{\bullet}(A \rtimes \mathcal{H}) \simeq Δ(A^{op} \natural \mathcal{H}…
The Hochschild and (cotriple) cyclic homologies of crossed modules of (not-necessarily-unital) associative algebras are investigated. Wodzicki's excision theorem is extended for inclusion crossed modules in the category of crossed modules of algebras. The cyclic and cotriple cyclic homologies of crossed modules are compared in terms of long exact homology sequence, generalising the relative cyclic homology exact sequence.
We study the periodic cyclic homology groups of the cross-product of a finite type algebra $A$ by a discrete group $Γ$. In case $A$ is commutative and $Γ$ is finite, our results are complete and given in terms of the singular cohomology of the strata of fixed points. These groups identify our cyclic homology groups with the \dlp orbifold cohomology\drp\ of the underlying (algebraic) orbifold. The proof is based on a careful study of localization at fixed points and of the resulting Koszul complexes. We provide examples of Azumaya algebras for which this identification is, however, no longer va…
We discuss the cyclic homology of crossed product algebras from the Cuntz-Quillen point of view. The periodic cyclic homology of a crossed product algebra $A\rtimes G$ is described in terms of the $G$-action on periodic cyclic bicomplexes of crossed products of $A$ by the cyclic subgroups of $G$ .
We obtain a mixed complex simpler than the canonical one the computes the type cyclic homologies of a crossed product with invertible cocycle $A\times_ρ^f H$, of a weak module algebra $A$ by a weak Hopf algebra $H$. This complex is provided with a filtration. The spectral sequence of this filtration generalizes the spectral sequence obtained in \cite{CGG}. When $f$ takes its values in a separable subalgebra of $A$ that satisfies suitable conditions, the above mentioned mixed complex is provided with another filtration, whose spectral sequence generalize the Feigin-Tsygan spectral sequence.

We introduce and study a homology theory of crossed modules with coefficients in an abelian crossed module. We discuss the basic properties of these new homology groups and give some applications. We then restrict our attention to the case of integral coefficients. In this case we regain the homology of crossed modules originally defined by Baues and further developed by Ellis. We show that it is an instance of Barr-Beck comonadic homology, so that we may use a result of Everaert and Gran to obtain Hopf formulae in all dimensions.
In this paper we construct a cylindrical module $A \natural \mathcal{H}$ for an $\mathcal{H}$-comodule algebra $A$, where the antipode of the Hopf algebra $\mathcal{H}$ is bijective. We show that the cyclic module associated to the diagonal of $A \natural \mathcal{H}$ is isomorphic with the cyclic module of the crossed product algebra $A \rtimes \mathcal{H}$. This enables us to derive a spectral sequence for the cyclic homology of the crossed product algebra. We also construct a cocylindrical module for Hopf module coalgebras and establish a similar spectral sequence to compute the cyclic coho…
We consider Hopf crossed products of the the type $A#_σ\mathcal{H}$, where $\mathcal{H}$ is a cocommutative Hopf algebra, $A$ is an $\mathcal{H}$-module algebra and $σ$ is a "numerical" convolution invertible 2-cocycle on $\mathcal{H}$. we give an spectral sequence that converges to the cyclic homology of $A#_σ\mathcal{H}$ and identify the $E^1$ and $E^2$ terms of the spectral sequence.
Let A a k-algebra, H a Hopf algebra, E = A#H a general crossed product and M an E-bimodule. We obtain a complex simpler than the canonical one, giving the Hochschild homology of E with coefficients in M. This complex is eqquiped with a natural filtration. We prove that the associated spectral sequence coincides with that obtained by either, the Hochschild-Serre direct method or the Cartan-Leray-Grothendieck method. We also get similar results for the cohomology.
We obtain a mixed complex, simpler that the canonical one, given the Hochschild, cyclic, negative and periodic homology of a crossed product E=A#fH, where H is an arbitrary Hopf algebra and f is a convolution invertible cocycle with values in A. Actually, we work in the more general context of relative cyclic homology. Specifically, we consider a subalgebra K of A which is stable under the action of H, and we find a mixed complex computing the Hochschild, cyclic, negative and periodic homology of E relative to K. As an application we obtain two spectral sequences converging to the cyclic homol…
Let H be a Hopf algebra. By definition a modular crossed H-module is a vector space M on which H acts and coacts in a compatible way. To every modular crossed H-module M we associate a cyclic object Z(H,M). The cyclic homology of Z(H,M) extends the usual cyclic homology of the algebra structure of H, and the relative cyclic homology of an H-Galois extension. For a Hopf subalgebra K we compute, under some assumptions, the cyclic homology of an induced modular crossed module. As a direct application of this computation, we describe the relative cyclic homology of strongly graded algebras. In par…
In \verb|arXiv:1212.5901| we associated an algebra $\Gami(\fA)$ to every bornological algebra $\fA$ and an ideal $I_{S(\fA)}\triqui\Gami(\fA)$ to every symmetric ideal $S\triqui\elli$. We showed that $I_{S(\fA)}$ has $K$-theoretical properties which are similar to those of the usual stabilization with respect to the ideal $J_S\triqui\cB$ of the algebra $\cB$ of bounded operators in Hilbert space which corresponds to $S$ under Calkin's correspondence. In the current article we compute the relative cyclic homology $HC_*(\Gami(\fA):I_{S(\fA)})$. Using these calculations, and the results of \emph{…
We study the K-homology of the rotation algebras $A_θ$ using the six term cyclic sequence for the K-homology of a crossed product by ${\bf Z}$. In the case where $θ$ is irrational we use Pimsner and Voiculescu's work on AF-embeddings of the $A_θ$ to search for the missing generator of the even K-homology.
We define a version of Hochschild homology and cohomology suitable for a class of algebras admitting compatible actions of bialgebras, called module algebras. We show this (co)homology, called Hopf--Hochschild (co)homology, can also be defined as a derived functor on the category of representations of a crossed product algebra. We investigate the relationship of our theory with Hopf cyclic cohomology and also prove Morita invariance of the Hopf--Hochschild (co)homology.
In this paper we present the construction of explicit quasi-isomorphisms that compute the cyclic homology and periodic cyclic homology of crossed-product algebras associated with (discrete) group actions. In the first part we deal with algebraic crossed-products associated with group actions on unital algebras over any ring $k\supset \mathbb{Q}$. In the second part, we extend the results to actions on locally convex algebras. We then deal with crossed-products associated with group actions on manifolds and smooth varieties. For the finite order components, the results are expressed in terms of…

This is a further investigation of our approach to group actions in homological algebra in the settings of homology of Γ-simplicial groups, particularly of Γ-equivariant homology and cohomology of Γ-groups. This approach could be called Γ-homological algebra. The abstract kernel of non-abelian extensions of groups, its relation with the obstruction to the existence of non-abelian extensions and with the second group cohomology are extended to the case of non-abelian Γ-extensions of Γ-groups. We compute the rational Γ-equivariant (co)homology groups of finite cyclic Γ-groups. The isomorphism of…
Let $Γ$ be a torsion-free arithmetic group acting on its associated global symmetric space $X$. Assume that $X$ is of non-compact type and let $Γ$ act on the geodesic boundary $\partial X$ of $X$. Via general constructions in KK-theory, we endow the K-groups of the arithmetic manifold $X/Γ$, of the reduced group C*-algebra of $Γ$ and of the boundary crossed product algebra associated to the action of $Γ$ on $\partial X$, with Hecke operators. The K-theory and K-homology groups of these C*-algebras are related by a Gysin six-term exact sequence. In the case when $Γ$ is a group of real hyperboli…
Let $Γ$ be a torsion free cocompact lattice in $\aut(\cl T_1)\times\aut(\cl T_2)$, where $\cl T_1$, $\cl T_2$ are trees whose vertices all have degree at least three. The group $H_2(Γ, \bb Z)$ is determined explicitly in terms of an associated 2-dimensional tiling system. It follows that under appropriate conditions the crossed product $C^*$-algebra $\cl A$ associated with the action of $Γ$ on the boundary of $\cl T_1\times \cl T_2$ satisfies $\rank K_0(\cl A) = 2\cdot\rank H_2(Γ, \bb Z)$.
We provide a Cuntz-Pimsner model for graph of groups $C^*$-algebras. This allows us to compute the $K$-theory of a range of examples and show that graph of groups $C^*$-algebras can be realised as Exel-Pardo algebras. We also make a preliminary investigation of whether the crossed product algebra of Baumslag-Solitar groups acting on the boundary of certain trees satisfies Poincaré duality in $KK$-theory. By constructing a $K$-theory duality class we compute the $K$-homology of these crossed products.
Motivated by classical facts concerning closed manifolds, we introduce a strong finiteness property in K-homology. We say that a C*-algebra has uniformly summable K-homology if all its K-homology classes can be represented by Fredholm modules which are finitely summable over the same dense subalgebra, and with the same degree of summability. We show that two types of C*-algebras associated to hyperbolic groups - the C*-crossed product for the boundary action, and the reduced group C*-algebra - have uniformly summable K-homology. We provide explicit summability degrees, as well as explicit fini…
This paper studies the K-homology of a crossed product of a discrete group acting smoothly on a manifold, with a better understanding of the noncommutative geometry of the crossed-product as the primary goal, and the Baum-Connes apparatus as the main tool. Examples suggest that the correct notion of the `Dirac class' of such a noncommutative space is the image under the equivalence determined by Baum-Connes of the fibre of the fibration of the Borel space associated to the action and a smooth model for the classifying space of the group. We give a systematic study of such fibre, or `Dirac clas…
In this paper we study the Lie groupoids which appear in foliation theory. A foliation groupoid is a Lie groupoid which integrates a foliation, or, equivalently, whose anchor map is injective. The first theorem shows that, for a Lie groupoid G, the following are equivalent: - G is a foliation groupoid, - G has discrete isotropy groups, - G is Morita equivalent to an etale groupoid. Moreover, we show that among the Lie groupoids integrating a given foliation, the holonomy and the monodromy groupoids are extreme examples. The second theorem shows that the cyclic homology of convolution algebras …
We survey some of the known results on the relation between the homology of the {\em full} Hecke algebra of a reductive $p$-adic group $G$, and the representation theory of $G$. Let us denote by $\CIc(G)$ the full Hecke algebra of $G$ and by $\Hp_*(\CIc(G))$ its periodic cyclic homology groups. Let $\hat G$ denote the admissible dual of $G$. One of the main points of this paper is that the groups $\Hp_*(\CIc(G))$ are, on the one hand, directly related to the topology of $\hat G$ and, on the other hand, the groups $\Hp_*(\CIc(G))$ are explicitly computable in terms of $G$ (essentially, in terms…
In this work we study the class of algebras satisfying a duality property with respect to Hochschild homology and cohomology, as in [VdB]. More precisely, we consider the class of algebras $A$ such that there exists an invertible bimodule $U$ and an integer number $d$ with the property $H^{\bullet}(A,M)\cong H_{d-\bullet}(A,U\ot_AM)$, for all $A$-bimodules $M$. We will show that this class is closed under localization and under smash products with respect to Hopf algebras satisfying also the duality property. We also illustrate the subtlety on dualities with smash products developing in detail…
Let G be a compact, simple and simply connected Lie group and $\A$ be an equivariant Dixmier-Douady bundle over G. For any fixed level k, we can define a G-C*-algebra $C_{\A^{k+h}}(G)$ as all the continuous sections of the tensor power $\A^{k+h}$ vanishing at infinity. A deep theorem by Freed-Hopkins-Teleman showed that the twisted K-homology $KK^{G}(C_{\A^{k+h}}(G), \C)$ is isomorphic to the level k Verlinde ring R_{k}(G). By the construction of crossed product, we define a C*-algebra $C^{*}(G,C_{\A^{k+h}}(G))$. We show that the K-homology KK(C^{*}(G,C_{\A^{k+h}}(G)),\C) is isomorphic to the …
