In this work we study the class of algebras satisfying a duality property with respect to Hochschild homology and cohomology, as in [VdB]. More precisely, we consider the class of algebras $A$ such that there exists an invertible bimodule $U$ and an integer number $d$ with the property $H^{\bullet}(A,M)\cong H_{d-\bullet}(A,U\ot_AM)$, for all $A$-bimodules $M$. We will show that this class is closed under localization and under smash products with respect to Hopf algebras satisfying also the duality property. We also illustrate the subtlety on dualities with smash products developing in detail the example $S(V)#G$, the crossed product of the symmetric algebra on a vector space and a finite group acting linearly on $V$.
We develop a new spectral sequence in order to calculate Hochschild homology of smash biproducts (also called twisted tensor products) of unital associative algebras $A\# B$ provided one of $A$ or $B$ has Hochschild dimension less than 2. We use this spectral sequence to calculate Hochschild homology of quantum tori, multiparametric quantum affine spaces, quantum complete intersections, quantum Weyl algebras, deformed completed Weyl algebras, and finally the algebra $M_q(2)$ of quantum $2\times 2$-matrices.
Stefan and Guichardet have provided Lyndon-Hochschild-Serre type spectral sequences which converge to the Hochschild cohomology and Ext groups of a smash product. We show that these spectral sequences carry natural multiplicative structures, and that these multiplicative structures can be used to calculate the cup product on Hochschild cohomology and the Yoneda product on an Ext algebra.
We show that the braided Hochschild cohomology, of an algebra in a suitably algebraic braided monoidal category, admits a graded ring structure under which it is braided commutative. We then give a canonical identification between the usual Hochschild cohomology ring of a smash product and the (derived) invariants of its braided Hochschild cohomology ring. We apply our results to identify the associative formal deformation theory of a smash product with its formal deformation theory as a module algebra over the given Hopf algebra (when the Hopf algebra is sufficiently semisimple). As a second …
Applying recent results by Lowen-Van den Bergh we show that Hochschild cohomology is preserved under Koszul-Moore duality as a Gerstenhaber algebra. More precisely, the corresponding Hochschild complexes are linked by a quasi-isomorphism of B-infinity-algebras.
In this article we discuss two different but related results on Hochschild (co)homology and the theory of Koszul duality. On the one hand, we prove essentially that the Tamarkin-Tsygan calculus of an Adams connected augmented dg algebra and of its Koszul dual are dual. This uses the fact that Hochschild cohomology and homology may be regarded as a twisted construction of some natural (augmented) dg algebras and dg modules over the former. In particular, from these constructions it follows that the computation of the cup product on Hochschild cohomology and cap product on Hochschild homology of…
We extend the notion of monogenic extension to the noncommutative setting, and we study the Hochschild cohomology ring of such an extension. As an aplication we complete the computation of the cohomology ring of the rank one Hopf algebras beggined in [S. M. Burciu and S. J. Witherspoon, Hochschild cohomology of smash products and rank one Hopf algebras].
We consider the Gorenstein condition for topological Hochschild homology, and show that it holds remarkably often. More precisely, if R is a commutative ring spectrum and and R----->k is a ring map to a field of characteristic p then, provided k is small as an R-module, THH(R;k) is Gorenstein in the sense of Dwyer-Greenlees-Iyengar. In particular, this holds if R is a (conventional) regular local ring with residue field k of characteristic p. Using only Bokstedt's calculation of THH(k), this gives a non-calculational proof of dualities observed in calculations by Bokstedt, McClure-Staffeldt, A…
This paper is devoted to the calculation of Batalin-Vilkovisky algebra structures on the Hochschild cohomology of skew Calabi-Yau generalized Weyl algebras. We firstly establish a Van den Bergh duality at the level of complex. Then based on the results of Solotar et al., we apply Kowalzig and Krähmer's method to the Hochschild homology of generalized Weyl algebras, and translate the homological information into cohomological one by virtue of the Van den Bergh duality, obtaining the desired Batalin-Vilkovisky algebra structures. Finally, we apply our results to quantum weighted projective lines…
The recent result of Brown and Zhang establishing Poincare duality in the Hochschild (co)homology of a large class of Hopf algebras is extended to right coideal subalgebras over which the Hopf algebra is faithfully flat, and applied to the standard Podles quantum 2-sphere.
We borrow ideas from Grothendieck duality theory to noncommutative algebra, and use them to prove a reduction result for Hochschild cohomology for noncommutative algebras which are finite over their center. This generalizes a result over commutative algebras by Avramov, Iyengar, Lipman and Nayak.
Let $X$ be a finite CW complex, and let $DX$ be its dual in the category of spectra. We demonstrate that the Poincaré/Koszul duality between $THH(DX)$ and the free loop space $Σ^\infty_+ LX$ is in fact a genuinely $S^1$-equivariant duality that preserves the $C_n$-fixed points. Our proof uses an elementary but surprisingly useful rigidity theorem for the geometric fixed point functor $Φ^G$ of orthogonal $G$-spectra.
We study Tate-Hochschild homology and cohomology for a two-sided Noetherian Gorenstein algebra. These (co)homology groups are defined for all degrees, non-negative as well as negative, and they agree with the usual Hochschild (co)homology groups for all degrees larger than the injective dimension of the algebra. We prove certain duality theorems relating the Tate-Hochschild (co)homology groups in positive degree to those in negative degree, in the case where the algebra is Frobenius. We explicitly compute all Tate-Hochschild (co)homology groups for certain classes of Frobenius algebras, namely…
In this paper we prove a version of curved Koszul duality for Z/2Z-graded curved coalgebras and their coBar differential graded algebras. A curved version of the homological perturbation lemma is also obtained as a useful technical tool for studying curved (co)algebras and precomplexes. The results of Koszul duality can be applied to study the category of matrix factorizations MF(R,W). We show how Dyckerhoff's generating results fit into the framework of curved Koszul duality theory. This enables us to clarify the relationship between the Borel-Moore Hochschild homology of curved (co)algebras …
The origin and interplay of products and dualities in algebraic (co)homology theories is ascribed to a $\times_A$-Hopf algebra structure on the relevant universal enveloping algebra. This provides a unified treatment for example of results by Van den Bergh about Hochschild (co)homology and by Huebschmann about Lie-Rinehart (co)homology.
Let $\k$ be a commutative ring, and let $(A,\mfrak{a})$ be an adic ring which is a $\k$-algebra. We study complete and torsion versions of the derived Hochschild homology and cohomology functors of $A$ over $\k$. To do this, we first establish weak proregularity of certain ideals in flat base changes of noetherian rings. Next, we develop a theory of DG-affine formal schemes, extending the Greenlees-May duality and the MGM equivalence to this setting. Finally, we define complete and torsion derived Hochschild homology and cohomology functors in this setting, and show that if $\k$ is noetherian …
We show that if $A$ and $H$ are Hopf algebras that have equivalent tensor categories of comodules, then one can transport what we call a free Yetter-Drinfeld resolution of the counit of $A$ to the same kind of resolution for the counit of $H$, exhibiting in this way strong links between the Hochschild homologies of $A$ and $H$. This enables us to get a finite free resolution of the counit of $\mathcal B(E)$, the Hopf algebra of the bilinear form associated to an invertible matrix $E$, generalizing an ealier construction of Collins, Hartel and Thom in the orthogonal case $E=I_n$. It follows tha…
We exhibit a Poisson module restoring a twisted Poincare duality between Poisson homology and cohomology for the polynomial algebra R=C[X_1,...,X_n] endowed with Poisson bracket arising from a uniparametrised quantum affine space. This Poisson module is obtained as the semiclassical limit of the dualising bimodule for Hochschild homology of the corresponding quantum affine space. As a corollary we compute the Poisson cohomology of R, and so retrieve a result obtained by direct methods (so completely different from ours) by Monnier.
