We study unitary multigraded non-associative algebras R generated by an ordered set X over a field K of characteristic 0 such that the mappings d_k: x_l->delta_{kl}, x_k,x_l in X, can be extended to derivations of R. The class of these algebras is quite large and includes free associative and Jordan algebras, absolutely free (non-associative) algebras, relatively free algebras in varieties of algebras, universal enveloping algebras of multigraded Lie algebras, etc.
There are Taylor-like formulas for R: Each element of R can be uniquely presented as a sum of elements of the form (...(r_0 x_{j_1})...x_{j_{n-1}}) x_{j_n}, where r_0 is a constant and j_1 <= ...<= j_n. We present methods for the description of the algebra of constants, including an approach via representation theory of the general linear or symmetric groups. As an application of the Taylor expansion for non-associative algebras, we consider the solutions of ordinary linear differential equations with constant coefficients from the base field.
The first (associative) Weyl algebra is formally rigid in the classical sense. In this paper, we show that it can however be formally deformed in a nontrivial way when considered as a so-called hom-associative algebra, and that this deformation preserves properties such as the commuter, while deforming others, such as the center, power associativity, the set of derivations, and some commutation relations. We then show that this deformation induces a formal deformation of the corresponding Lie algebra into what is known as a hom-Lie algebra, when using the commutator as bracket. We also prove t…
The aim of this paper is to extend to Hom-algebra structures the theory of formal deformations of algebras which was introduced by Gerstenhaber for associative algebras and extended to Lie algebras by Nijenhuis-Richardson. We deal with Hom-associative and Hom-Lie algebras. We construct the first groups of a deformation cohomology and give several examples of deformations. We provide families of Hom-Lie algebras deforming Lie algebra $sl_2$ and describe as formal deformations the q-deformed Witt algebra and Jackson $sl_2$.
We introduce the first hom-associative Weyl algebras over a field of prime characteristic as a generalization of the first associative Weyl algebra in prime characteristic. First, we study properties of hom-associative algebras constructed from associative algebras by a general "twisting" procedure. Then, with the help of these results, we determine the commuter, center, nuclei, and set of derivations of the first hom-associative Weyl algebras. We also classify them up to isomorphism, and show, among other things, that all nonzero endomorphisms on them are injective, but not surjective. Last, …
We describe the general non-associative version of Lie theory that relates unital formal multiplications (formal loops), Sabinin algebras and non-associative bialgebras. Starting with a formal multiplication we construct a non-associative bialgebra, namely, the bialgebra of distributions with the convolution product. Considering the primitive elements in this bialgebra gives a functor from formal loops to Sabinin algebras. We compare this functor to that of Mikheev and Sabinin and show that although the brackets given by both constructions coincide, the multioperator does not. We also show how…
We study a special class of weakly associative algebras: the symmetric Leibniz algebras. We describe the structure of the commutative and skew symmetric algebras associated with the polarization-depolarization principle. We also give a structure theorem for the symmetric Leibniz algebras and we study formal deformations in the context of deformation quantization.
We study diverse parametrized versions of the operad of associative algebra, where the parameter are taken in an associative semigroup $Ω$ (generalization of matching or family associative algebras) or in its cartesian square (two-parameters associative algebras). We give a description of the free algebras on these operads, study their formal series and prove that they are Koszul when the set of parameters is finite. We also study operadic morphisms between the operad of classical associative algebras and these objects, and links with other types of algebras (diassociative, dendriform, post-Li…
Generalizations of the series exp and log to noncommutative non-associative and other types of algebras were considered by M.Lazard, and recently by V.Drensky and L.Gerritzen. There is a unique power series exp(x) in one non-associative variable x such that exp(x)exp(x)=exp(2x), exp'(0)=1. We call the unique series H=H(x,y) in two non-associative variables satisfying exp(H)=exp(x)exp(y) the non-associative Hausdorff series, and we show that the homogeneous components of H are primitive elements with respect to the co-addition for non-associative variables. We describe the space of primitive el…
In this paper, we first propose the concept of Rota-Baxter family $Ω$-associative conformal algebras, then we study the cohomology theory of Rota-Baxter family $Ω$-associative conformal algebras of any weight and justify it by interpreting the lower degree cohomology groups as formal deformations.
We study the degeneration relations on the varieties of associative and Lie algebra structures on a fixed finite dimensional vector space and give a description of them in terms of Gerstenhaber formal deformations. We use this result to show how the orbit closure of the $3$-dimensional Lie algebras can be determined using homological algebra. For the case of finite dimensional associative algebras, we prove that the $N$-Koszul property is preserved under the degeneration relation for all $N\geq2$.
Bihom-associative algebras have been recently introduced in the study of group hom-categories. In this paper, we introduce a Hochschild type cohomology for bihom-associative algebras with suitable coefficients. The underlying cochain complex (with coefficients in itself) can be given the structure of an operad with a multiplication. Hence, the cohomology inherits a Gerstenhaber structure. We show that this cohomology also control corresponding formal deformations. Finally, we introduce bihom-associative algebras up to homotopy and show that some particular classes of these homotopy algebras ar…
In this paper, we consider Rota-Baxter operators on involutive associative algebras. We define cohomology for Rota-Baxter operators on involutive algebras that governs the formal deformation of the operator. This cohomology can be seen as the Hochschild cohomology of a certain involutive associative algebra with coefficients in a suitable involutive bimodule. We also relate this cohomology with the cohomology of involutive dendriform algebras. Finally, we show that the standard Fard-Guo construction of the functor from the category of dendriform algebras to the category of Rota-Baxter algebras…
We study the operad of associative algebras equipped with a derivation. We show that it is determined by polynomials in several variables and substitution. Replacing polynomials by rational functions gives an operad which is isomorphic to the operad of "moulds". It provides an efficient environment for doing integro-differential calculus. Interesting variations are obtained by using formal group laws. The preceding case corresponds to the additive formal group law. We unravel the notion of homotopy associative algebra with derivation in the spirit of Kadeishvili's work.
Let $G$ be a finitely generated group, and let $\Bbbk{G}$ be its group algebra over a field of characteristic $0$. A Taylor expansion is a certain type of map from $G$ to the degree completion of the associated graded algebra of $\Bbbk{G}$ which generalizes the Magnus expansion of a free group. The group $G$ is said to be filtered-formal if its Malcev Lie algebra is isomorphic to the degree completion of its associated graded Lie algebra. We show that $G$ is filtered-formal if and only if it admits a Taylor expansion, and derive some consequences.
In this paper, homological methods together with the theory of formal languages of theoretical computer science are proved to be effective tools to determine the growth and the Hilbert series of an associative algebra. Namely, we construct a class of finitely presented associative algebras related to a family of context-free languages. This allows us to connect the Hilbert series of these algebras with the generating functions of such languages. In particular, we obtain a class of finitely presented graded algebras with non-rational algebraic Hilbert series.
The aim of this paper is to give an overview and to compare the different deformation theories of algebraic structures. We describe in each case the corresponding notions of degeneration and rigidity. We illustrate these notions with examples and give some general properties. The last part of this work shows how these notions help in the study of associative algebras varieties. The first and popular deformation approach was introduced by M. Gerstenhaber for rings and algebras using formal power series. A noncommutative version was given by Pinczon and generalized by F. Nadaud. A more general a…
A Mathieu-Zhao subspace is a generalization of an ideal of an associative algebra $\mathcal A$ over a unital ring $R$ first formalized in 2010. A vertex algebra is an algebraic structure first developed in conjunction with string theory in the 1960s and later axiomatized by mathematicians in the 1980s. We formally introduce the definition of a Mathieu-Zhao subspace $M$ of a vertex algebra $V$. Building on natural connections to associative algebras, we classify an infinite set of non-trivial, non-ideal Mathieu-Zhao subspaces for simple and general vertex algebras by group action eigenspace dec…
In this paper, we introduce the cohomology theory of $\mathcal{O}$-operators on Hom-associative algebras. This cohomology can also be viewed as the Hochschild cohomology of a certain Hom-associative algebra with coefficients in a suitable bimodule. Next, we study infinitesimal and formal deformations of an $\mathcal{O}$-operator and show that they are governed by the above-defined cohomology. Furthermore, the notion of Nijenhuis elements associated with an $\mathcal{O}$-operator is introduced to characterize trivial infinitesimal deformations.
Rota-Baxter operators and more generally $\mathcal{O}$-operators on associative algebras are important in probability, combinatorics, associative Yang-Baxter equation and splitting of algebras. Using a method of Uchino, we construct an explicit graded Lie algebra whose Maurer-Cartan elements are given by $\mathcal{O}$-operators. This allows us to construct a cohomology for an $\mathcal{O}$-operator. This cohomology can also be seen as the Hochschild cohomology of a certain algebra with coefficients in a suitable representation. Next, we study linear and formal deformations of an $\mathcal{O}$-…
Rota-Baxter systems of T. Brzeziński are a generalization of Rota-Baxter operators that are related to dendriform structures, associative Yang-Baxter pairs and covariant bialgebras. In this paper, we consider Rota-Baxter systems in the presence of bimodule, which we call generalized Rota-Baxter systems. We define a graded Lie algebra whose Maurer-Cartan elements are generalized Rota-Baxter systems. This allows us to define a cohomology theory for a generalized Rota-Baxter system. Formal one-parameter deformations of generalized Rota-Baxter systems are discussed from cohomological points of vie…
A commutative algebra is exact if its multiplication endomorphisms are trace-free and is Killing metrized if its Killing type trace-form is nondegenerate and invariant. A Killing metrized exact commutative algebra is necessarily neither unital nor associative. Such algebras can be viewed as commutative analogues of semisimple Lie algebras or, alternatively, as nonassociative generalizations of étale (associative) algebras. Some basic examples are described and there are introduced quantitative measures of nonassociativity, formally analogous to curvatures of connections, that serve to facilita…
In these notes, we introduce formal hom-associative deformations of the quantum planes and the universal enveloping algebras of the two-dimensional non-abelian Lie algebras. We then show that these deformations induce formal hom-Lie deformations of the corresponding Lie algebras constructed by using the commutator as bracket.
In a classic paper, Gerstenhaber showed that first order deformations of an associative k-algebra A are controlled by the second Hochschild cohomology group of A. More generally, any n-parameter first order deformation of A gives, due to commutativity of the cup-product on Hochschild cohomology, a morphism from the graded algebra Sym(k^n) to Ext^*(A,A), the Ext-algebra in the category of A-bimodules. We prove that any extension of the n-parameter first order deformation of A to an INFINITE ORDER formal deformation provides a canonical `lift' of the graded algebra morphism above to a dg-algebra…
The purpose of this paper is to define cohomology structures on Hom-associative algebras and Hom-Lie algebras. The first and second coboundary maps were introduced by Makhlouf and Silvestrov in the study of one-parameter formal deformations theory. Among the relevant formulas for a generalization of Hochschild cohomology for Hom-associative algebras and a Chevalley-Eilenberg cohomology for Hom-Lie algebras, we define Gerstenhaber bracket on the space of multilinear mappings of Hom-associative algebras and Nijenhuis-Richardson bracket on the space of multilinear mappings of Hom-Lie algebras. Al…
We propose a definition of differential operators of an associative algebra $A$ in the spirit of Hochschild cohomology. Specifically we define $D(A)$ as the zero cohomology of a certain bicomplex formed by Hom-spaces $\mathrm{Hom}(A^{\otimes q}, A^{\otimes p})$. We show that it has a structure of a planar prop, i.e. each differential operator has multiple inputs and outputs and they can be composed along planar graphs. Furthermore, for a formally smooth algebra we have the surjective symbol map from $D(A)$ to the space of poly-derivations. We also consider another planar prop $E(A)$ generated …
Dendriform coalgebras are the dual notion of dendriform algebras and are splitting of associative coalgebras. In this paper, we define a cohomology theory for dendriform coalgebras based on some combinatorial maps. We show that the cohomology with self coefficients governs the formal deformation of the structure. We also relate this cohomology with the cohomology of dendriform algebras, coHochschild (Cartier) cohomology of associative coalgebras and cohomology of Rota-Baxter coalgebras which we introduce in this paper. Finally, using those combinatorial maps, we introduce homotopy analogue of …
We consider a generalization of (pro)algebraic loops defined on general categories of algebras and the dual notion of a coloop bialgebra suitable to represent them as functors. Our main result is the proof that the natural loop of formal diffeomorphisms with associative coefficients is proalgebraic, and give a full description of the codivisions on its coloop bialgebra. This result provides a generalization of the Lagrange inversion formula to series with non-commutative coefficients, and a loop-theoretic explanation to the existence of the non-commutative F{à}a di Bruno Hopf algebra. Consider a diagram $\cdots \to F_3 \to F_2\to F_1$ of algebraic systems, where $F_n$ denotes the free object on $n$ generators and the connecting maps send the extra generator to some distinguished trivial element. We prove that (a) if the $F_i$ are free associative algebras over a fixed field then the limit in the category of graded algebras is again free on a set of homogeneous generators; (b) on the other hand, the limit in the category of associative (ungraded) algebras is a free formal power series algebra on a set of homogeneous elements, and (c) if the $F_i$ are free Lie algebras then t…
The notion of an F-manifold algebra is the underlying algebraic structure of an $F$-manifold. We introduce the notion of pre-Lie formal deformations of commutative associative algebras and show that F-manifold algebras are the corresponding semi-classical limits. We study pre-Lie infinitesimal deformations and extension of pre-Lie n-deformation to pre-Lie (n+1)-deformation of a commutative associative algebra through the cohomology groups of pre-Lie algebras. We introduce the notions of pre-F-manifold algebras and dual pre-F-manifold algebras, and show that a pre-F-manifold algebra gives rise …
