Partial connections are (singular) differential systems generalizing classical connections on principal bundles, yielding analogous decompositions for manifolds with nonfree group actions. Connection forms are interpreted as maps determining projections of the tangent bundle onto the partial connection; this approach eliminates many of the complications arising from the presence of isotropy. A connection form taking values in the dual of the Lie algebra is smooth even at singular points of the action, while analogs of the classical algebra-valued connection form are necessarily discontinuous at such points. The curvature of a partial connection form can be defined under mild technical hypotheses; the interpretation of curvature as a measure of the lack of involutivity of the (partial) connection carries over to this general setting.
Topologically and geometrically engaging actions have proved to be useful to obtain rigidity results for semisimple Lie group actions. We show that the action of a simple noncompact Lie group on a compact manifold preserving a unimodular rigid geometric structure of algebraic type (e.g. a connection together with a volume density) is topologically engaging on an open conull dense set.
In this paper the author determines necessary and sufficient conditions for existence of the Ehresmann connection on a manifold foliated by locally free action of the commutative Lie group. Also here we describe structure of $C_0(M)|_L$ for a leaf $L \subset M$ in case such a connection exists. Finally we give some results on structure of the spectrum of the family of Schrödinger operators related to the leaves of the foliation.
We consider smooth families of Lie groups (group bundles) and connections that are compatible with the group operation. We characterize the space of group connections on a group bundle as an affine space modeled over the vector space of $1$-forms with values cocycles in the Lie algebra bundle of the aforementioned group bundle. We show that group connections satisfy the Ambrose-Singer theorem and that group bundles can be seen as a particular case of associated bundles realizing group connections as associated connections. We give a construction of the Moduli space of group connections with fi…
In this paper, we classify three-dimensional Lorentzian Lie groups on which Ricci tensors associated to Bott connections, canonical connections and Kobayashi-Nomizu connections are Codazzi tensors associated to these connections. We also classify three-dimensional Lorentzian Lie group with the quasi-statistical structure associated to Bott connections, canonical connections and Kobayashi-Nomizu connections.
Connection, torsion and curvature are introduced for general (local) Leibniz algebroids. Generalized Bismut connection on $TM \oplus Λ^{p} T^{\ast}M$ is an example leading to a scalar curvature of the form $R + H^2$ for a closed $(p+2)$-form $H$.
In this paper, we compute canonical connections and Kobayashi-Nomizu connections and their curvature on three-dimensional Lorentzian Lie groups with some product structure. We define algebraic Ricci solitons associated to canonical connections and Kobayashi-Nomizu connections. We classify algebraic Ricci solitons associated to canonical connections and Kobayashi-Nomizu connections on three-dimensional Lorentzian Lie groups with some product structure.
In this paper, we classify Left-invariant Ricci collineations associated to canonical connections and Kobayashi-Nomizu connections on three-dimensional Lorentzian Lie groups.
Symmetric connections that are compatible with semi-Riemannian metrics can be characterized using an existence result for an integral leaf of a (possibly non integrable) distribution. In this paper we give necessary and sufficient conditions for a left-invariant connection on a Lie group to be the Levi-Civita connection of some semi-Riemannian metric on the group. As a special case, we will consider constant connections in $\R^n$.
We discuss Levi-Civita connections on Courant algebroids. We define an appropriate generalization of the curvature tensor and compute the corresponding scalar curvatures in the exact and heterotic case, leading to generalized (bosonic) Einstein-Hilbert type of actions known from supergravity. In particular, we carefully analyze the process of the reduction for the generalized metric, connection, curvature tensor and the scalar curvature.
In this paper, we define deformed Schouten-Van Kampen connections which are metric connections and compute sub-Riemannian limits of Gaussian curvature for a Euclidean C2-smooth surface associated to deformed Schouten-Van Kampen connections with two kinds of distributions in the affine group and the group of rigid motions of the Minkowski plane away from characteristic points and signed geodesic curvature for Euclidean C2-smooth curves on surfaces. According to above results, we get Gauss-Bonnet theorems associated to two kinds of deformed Schouten-Van Kampen connections in the affine group and…
In this paper, we compute the Bott connections and their curvature on three-dimensional Lorentzian Lie groups with three different distributions, and we classify affine Ricci solitons associated to the Bott connection on three-dimensional Lorentzian Lie groups with three different distributions.
We continue our study of the mixed Einstein-Hilbert action as a functional of a pseudo-Riemannian metric and a linear connection. Its geometrical part is the total mixed scalar curvature on a smooth manifold endowed with a distribution or a foliation. We develop variational formulas for quantities of extrinsic geometry of a distribution on a metric-affine space and use them to derive Euler-Lagrange equations (which in the case of space-time are analogous to those in Einstein-Cartan theory) and to characterize critical points of this action on vacuum space-time. Together with arbitrary variatio…
In this paper, we compute sub-Riemannian limits of Gaussian curvature associated to two kinds of Schouten-Van Kampen affine connections and the adapted connection for a Euclidean $C^2$-smooth surface in the Heisenberg group away from characteristic points and signed geodesic curvature associated to two kinds of Schouten-Van Kampen affine connections and the adapted connection for Euclidean $C^2$-smooth curves on surfaces. We get Gauss-Bonnet theorems associated to two kinds of Schouten-Van Kampen affine connections in the Heisenberg group.
In this paper, we determine all left-invariant Ricci collineations associated to the Bott connection with three distributions on three-dimensional Lorentzian Lie groups . he author was supported in part by NSFC No.11771070.
Almost contact manifolds with B-metric are considered. There are studied three natural connections (i.e. linear connections preserving the structure tensors) determined by conditions for their torsions. These connections are investigated on a family of Lie groups considered as 5-dimensional almost contact B-metric manifolds.
In this paper, we introduce notions of $α$-planes in $5$D complex Heisenberg group and the twistor space as the moduli space of all $α$-planes. So we can define an anti-self-dual (ASD) connection as a connection flat over all $α$-planes. This geometric approach allows us to establish Penrose-Ward correspondence between ASD connections over $5$D complex Heisenberg group and a class of holomorphic vector bundles on the twistor space. By Atiyah-Ward ansätz, we also construct a family of ASD connections on $5$D complex Heisenberg group. When restricted to $5$D real Heisenberg group, the flat model…
We show how characteristic classes determine equivariant prequantization bundles over the space of connections on a principal bundle. These bundles are shown to generalize the Chern-Simons line bundles to arbitrary dimensions. Our result applies to arbitrary bundles, and it is studied the action of both the gauge group and the automorphisms group. The action of the elements in the connected component of the identity of the group generalizes known results in the literature. The action of the elements not connected with the identity is shown to be determined by a characteristic class by using di…
Around 1923, Elie Cartan introduced affine connections on manifolds and definedthe main related concepts: torsion, curvature, holonomy groups. He discussed applications of these concepts in Classical and Relativistic Mechanics; in particular he explained how parallel transport with respect to a connection can be related to the principle of inertia in Galilean Mechanics and, more generally, can be used to model the motion of a particle in a gravitational field. In subsequent papers, Elie Cartan extended these concepts for other types of connections on a manifold: Euclidean, Galilean and Minkows…
In this paper, we classify affine Ricci solitons associated to canonical connections and Kobayashi-Nomizu connections and perturbed canonical connections and perturbed Kobayashi-Nomizu connections on three-dimensional Lorentzian Lie groups with some product structure.
We introduce a symplectic structure on the space of connections in a G-principal bundle over a four-manifold and the Hamiltonian action on it of the group of gauge transformations which are trivial on the boundary. The symplectic reduction becomes the moduli space of flat connections over the manifold. On the moduli space of flat connections we shall construct a hermitian line bundle with connection whose curvature is given by the symplectic form. This is the Chern-Simons prequantum line bundle. The group of gauge transformations on the boundary of the base manifold acts on the moduli space of…
In this work, generalized principal bundles modelled by Lie group bundle actions are investigated. In particular, the definition of equivariant connections in these bundles, associated to Lie group bundle connections, is provided, together with the analysis of their existence and their main properties. The final part gives some examples. In particular, since this research was initially originated by some problems on geometric reduction of gauge field theories, we revisit the classical Utiyama Theorem from the perspective investigated in the article.
We prove that Yang-Mills connections on a surface are characterized as those with the property that the holonomy around homotopic closed paths only depends on the oriented area between the paths. Using this we have an alternative proof for a theorem of Atiyah and Bott that the Yang-Mills connections on a compact orientable surface can be characterized by homomorphisms to the structure group from an extension of the fundamental group of the surface. In addition, we obtain the results that the Yang-Mills connections on the sphere are isolated and correspond with the conjugacy classes of closed g…
On a fiber bundle without structure group the action of the gauge group (the group of all fiber respecting diffeomorphisms) on the space of (generalized) connections is shown not to admit slices.
The action of origin-preserving diffeomorphisms on a space of jets of symmetric connections is considered. Dimensions of moduli spaces of generic connections are calculated. Poincaré series of the geometric structure of symmetric connection is constructed, and shown to be a rational function.
Courant algebroids are a natural generalization of quadratic Lie algebras, appearing in various contexts in mathematical physics. A connection on a Courant algebroid gives an analogue of a covariant derivative compatible with a given fiber-wise metric. Imposing further conditions resembling standard Levi-Civita connections, one obtains a class of connections whose curvature tensor in certain cases gives a new geometrical description of equations of motion of low energy effective action of string theory. Two examples are given. One is the so called symplectic gravity, the second one is an appli…
Necessary and sufficient conditions are given for the Palais-Smale Condition C to hold for the Yang-Mills functional for invariant connections on a principal bundle over a compact manifold of any dimension. It is assumed that the connections are invariant under the action of a compact Lie group on the manifold, and that all orbits of the action have codimension three or less.
The paper presents a classification theorem for the class of flat connections with triangular (0,1)-components on a topologically trivial complex vector bundle over a compact Kahler manifold. As a consequence we obtain several results on the structure of Kähler groups, i.e., the fundamental groups of compact Kahler manifolds.

Let $G$ be a Lie Group with a left invariant connection such that its connection function is skew-symmetric. Our main goal is to show a version of Pluzhnikov's Theorem for this kind of connection. To this end, we use the stochastic logarithm. More exactly, the stochastic logarithm gives characterizations for Brownian motions and Martingales in $G$, and these characterzations are used to prove Pluzhnikov's Theorem.
Our main aim is to associate a holonomy Lie groupoid to the connective structure of an abelian gerbe. The construction has analogies with a procedure for the holonomy Lie groupoid of a foliation, in using a locally Lie groupoid and a globalisation procedure. We show that path connections and 2-holonomy on line bundles may be formulated using the notion of a connection pair on a double category, due to Brown-Spencer, but now formulated in terms of double groupoids using the thin fundamental groupoids introduced by Caetano-Mackaay-Picken. To obtain a locally Lie groupoid to which globalisation a…
We provide a geometric construction of the unitary structure which is projectively preserved by the Hitchin connection. We analyze the asymptotic behavior of it and we establish that it is uniformly in the level equivalent to the Hermitian structure induced by the L2 inner product on smooth sections.
We study the family of $α$-connections of Amari-Chentsov on the homogeneous space $\mathcal{D}(M)/\mathcal{D}_μ(M)$ of diffeomorphisms modulo volume-preserving diffeomorphims of a compact manifold $M$. We show that in some cases their geodesic equations yield completely integrable Hamiltonian systems.
We give some examples of non-complete invariant affine connections on nilpotent and filiform Lie groups. This permits to describe non-nilpotent faithful representations on the model of filiform n-dimensional Lie algebras and, in particular, on the 3 dimensional Heisenberg algebra.
We consider a standard symplectic dynamics on TM generated by a natural Lagrangian L. The Lagrangian is assumed to be invariant with respect to the action TR_g of a Lie group G lifted from the free and proper action R_g of G on M. It is shown that under these conditions a connection on principal bundle pi: M \rightarrow M/G can be constructed based on the momentum map corresponding to the action TR_g. The horizontal motion is shown to be in physical terms the one with all the momenta corresponding to the symmetry vanishing. A simple explicit formula for the connection form is given. For the sp…
We classify compact manifolds of dimension three equipped with a path structure and a fixed contact form (which we refer to as a strict path structure) under the hypothesis that their automorphism group is non-compact. We use a Cartan connection associated to the structure and show that its curvature is constant.
Using tools from the theory of Lie groupoids, we study the category of logarithmic flat connections on principal $G$-bundles, where $G$ is a complex reductive structure group. Flat connections on the affine line with a logarithmic singularity at the origin are equivalent to representations of a groupoid associated to the exponentiated action of $\mathbb{C}$. We show that such representations admit a canonical Jordan-Chevalley decomposition and use this to give a functorial classification. Flat connections on a complex manifold with logarithmic singularities along a hypersurface are equivalent …
Let G be a compact Lie group acting on a smooth manifold M. In this paper, we consider Meinrenken's G-equivariant bundle gerbe connections on M as objects in a 2-groupoid. We prove this 2-category is equivalent to the 2-groupoid of gerbe connections on the differential quotient stack associated to M, and isomorphism classes of G-equivariant gerbe connections are classified by degree three differential equivariant cohomology. Finally, we consider the existence and uniqueness of conjugation-equivariant gerbe connections on compact semisimple Lie groups.
Sengupta's lower bound for the Yang-Mills action on smooth connections on a bundle over a Riemann surface generalizes to the space of connections whose action is finite. In this larger space the inequality can always be saturated. The Yang-Mills critical sets correspond to critical sets of the energy action on a space of paths. This may shed light on Atiyah and Bott's conjecture concerning Morse theory for the space of connections modulo gauge transformations.
Anti-self-dual (ASD) connections for a compact smooth four manifold arise as critical values for the Yang-Mills action functional. Nahm transform is a nice correspondence between a vector bundle with ASD connections and a vector bundle with ASD connections over Picard torus associated to X. In this talk we propose a noncommutative geometric version of the Nahm transform that generalises the Connes-Yang-Mills action functional formulated using Dixmier trace.
We show that bi-flat $F$-manifolds can be interpreted as natural geometrical structures encoding the almost duality for Frobenius manifolds without metric. Using this framework, we extend Dubrovin's duality between orbit spaces of Coxeter groups and Veselov's $\vee$-systems, to the orbit spaces of exceptional well-generated complex reflection groups of rank $2$ and $3$. On the Veselov's $\vee$-systems side, we provide a generalization of the notion of $\vee$-systems that gives rise to a dual connection which coincides with a Dunkl-Kohno-type connection associated with such groups. In particula…
