By introducing Frobenius morphisms $F$ on algebras $A$ and their modules over the algebraic closure ${\bar \BF}_q$ of the finite field $\BF_q$ of $q$ elements, we establish a relation between the representation theory of $A$ over ${\bar \BF}_q$ and that of the $F$-fixed point algebra $A^F$ over $\BF_q$. More precisely, we prove that the category $\modh A^F$ of finite dimensional $A^F$-modules is equivalent to the subcategory of finite dimensional $F$-stable $A$-modules, and, when $A$ is finite dimensional, we establish a bijection between the isoclasses of indecomposable $A^F$-modules and the $F$-orbits of the isoclasses of indecomposable $A$-modules. Applying the theory to representations of quivers with automorphisms, we show that representations of a modulated quiver (or a species) over $\BF_q$ can be interpreted as $F$-stable representations of a corresponding quiver over ${\bar \BF}_q$. We further prove that every finite dimensional hereditary algebra over $\BF_q$ is Morita equivalent to some $A^F$, where $A$ is the path algebra of a quiver $Q$ over ${\bar \BF}_q$ and $F$ is induced from a certain automorphism of $Q$. A close relation between the Auslander-Reiten theories for $A$ and $A^F$ is established. In particular, we prove that the Auslander-Reiten (modulated) quiver of $A^F$ is obtained by "folding" the Auslander-Reiten quiver of $A$. Finally, by taking Frobenius fixed points, we are able to count the number of indecomposable representations of a modulated quiver with a given dimension vector and to establish part of Kac's theorem for all finite dimensional hereditary algebras over a finite field.
Given a morphism of (small) groupoids with injective object map, we provide sufficient and necessary conditions under which the induction and co-induction functors between the categories of linear representations are naturally isomorphic. A morphism with this property is termed a Frobenius morphism of groupoids. As a consequence, an extension by a subgroupoid is Frobenius if and only if each fibre of the (left or right) pull-back biset has finitely many orbits. Our results extend and clarify the classical Frobenius reciprocity formulae in the theory of finite groups, and characterize Frobenius…
Let $R$ be the homogeneous coordinate ring of the Grassmannian $\mathbb{G}=\operatorname{Gr}(2,n)$ defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>0$. In this paper we give a completely characteristic free description of the decomposition of $R$, considered as a graded $R^p$-module, into indecomposables ("Frobenius summands"). As a corollary we obtain a similar decomposition for the Frobenius pushforward of the structure sheaf of $\mathbb{G}$ and we obtain in particular that this pushforward is almost never a tilting bundle. On the other hand we show that $R$ provides a "noncom…
Let $R$ be the homogeneous coordinate ring of the Grassmannian $\mathbb{G}=Gr(2,n)$ defined over an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic $p \geq \max\{n-2,3\}$. In this paper we give a description of the decomposition of $R$, considered as graded $R^{p^r}$-module, for $r \geq 2$. This is a companion paper to our earlier paper, where the case $r=1$ was treated, and taken together, our results imply that $R$ has finite F-representation type (FFRT). Though it is expected that all rings of invariants for reductive groups have FFRT, ours is the first non-trivial example of such a ring f…
Let $\Cc$ and $\Dd$ be two corings over a ring $A$ and $\Cc\stackrelλ{\longrightarrow}\Dd$ be a morphism of corings. We investigate the situation when the associated induced ("corestriction of scalars") functor $\Mm^\Cc\longrightarrow \Mm^\Dd$ is a Frobenius functor, and call these morphisms Frobenius extensions of corings. The characterization theorem generalizes notions such as Frobenius corings and is applied to several situations; in particular, provided some (general enough) flatness conditions hold, the notion proves to be dual to that of Frobenius extensions of rings (algebras). Several…
Gendo-Frobenius algebras are a common generalisation of Frobenius algebras and of gendo-symmetric algebras. A comultiplication is constructed for gendo-Frobenius algebras, which specialises to the known comultiplications on Frobenius and on gendo-symmetric algebras. In addition, Frobenius algebras are shown to be precisely those gendo-Frobenius algebras that have a counit compatible with this comultiplication. Moreover, a new characterisation of gendo-Frobenius algebras is given. This new characterisation is a key for constructing the comultiplication of gendo-Frobenius algebras.
This article is divided into two parts. In the first part we work over a field $\mathbb{k}$ and prove that the Frobenius space associated to a Frobenius algebra is generated as left A-module by the Frobenius coproduct. In particular, we prove that the Frobenius dimension coincides with the dimension of the algebra. In the second part we work with a commutative ring $k$. We introduce the concept of nearly Frobenius algebras in this context and construct solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation starting from elements in the Frobenius space. Also, we give a list of equivalent characterizations of ne…
To any Frobenius superalgebra $A$ we associate towers of Frobenius nilCoxeter algebras and Frobenius nilHecke algebras. These act naturally, via Frobenius divided difference operators, on Frobenius polynomial algebras. When $A$ is the ground ring, our algebras recover the classical nilCoxeter and nilHecke algebras. When $A$ is the two-dimensional Clifford algebra, they are Morita equivalent to the odd nilCoxeter and odd nilHecke algebras.
We investigate Frobenius pairs between categories of comodules over rather general corings. We particularize to the case of the adjoint pair of functors associated to a morphism of corings over different base rings, which leads to a reasonable notion of Frobenius coring extension. When applied to corings stemming from entwining structures, we obtain new results in this setting.
A morphism Lie algebra is a triple $(\mathfrak{g}, \mathfrak{h}, ϕ)$ consisting of two Lie algebras $\mathfrak{g}, \mathfrak{h}$ and a Lie algebra homomorphism $ϕ: \mathfrak{g} \rightarrow \mathfrak{h}$. We define representations and cohomology of morphism Lie algebras. As applications of our cohomology, we study some aspects of deformations, abelian extensions of morphism Lie algebras and classify skeletal morphism sh Lie algebras. Finally, we consider the cohomology of morphism Lie groups and find a relation with the cohomology of morphism Lie algebras.
We investigate adjoint and Frobenius pairs between categories of comodules over rather general corings. We particularize to the case of the adjoint pair of functors associated to a morphism of corings over different base rings, which leads to a reasonable notion of Frobenius coring extension. When applied to corings stemming from entwining structures, we obtain new results in this setting and in graded ring theory.
In this paper, we compute the Frobenius dimension of any cluster tilted algebra of finite type. Moreover, we give conditions on the bounded quiver of a cluster tilted algebra $Λ$ such that $Λ$ has non-trivial open Frobenius structures.
In this article we continue with the study started in [1] of nearly Frobenius structures in some representative families of finite dimensional algebras, as the radical square zero algebras, string algebras and the toupie algebras. We prove that the radical square zero algebras with at least one path of length two are nearly Frobenius. As for the string algebras, in the ones that are not gentle, we can afirm that there is at least one non-trivial nearly Frobenius structure. Finally, in the case of the toupie algebras, we prove that the existence of monomial relations is a suficient condition to…
We study the existence of a Batalin-Vilkovisky differential on the complete cohomology ring of a Frobenius algebra. We construct a Batalin-Vilkovisky differential on the complete cohomology ring in the case of Frobenius algebras with diagonalizable Nakayama automorphisms.
For a Frobenius cellular algebra, we prove that if the left (right) dual basis of a cellular basis is again cellular, then the algebra is symmetric. Moreover, some ideals of the center are constructed by using the so-called Nakayama twisted center.
We discuss when the incidence coalgebra of a locally finite preordered set is right co-Frobenius. As a consequence, we obtain that a structural matrix algebra over a field $k$ is Frobenius if and only if it consists, up to a permutation of rows and columns, of diagonal blocks which are full matrix algebras over $k$.
We study the Frobenius-Perron dimension of representation-directed algebras and quotient algebras of canonical algebras of type ADE, prove that the Frobenius-Perron dimension of a representation-directed algebra is always zero and the Frobenius-Perron dimension of a quotient algebra of canonical algebras of type ADE is 0 or 1. Moreover, we give a sufficient and necessary condition for a quotient algebra of a canonical algebra of type ADE under which its Frobenius-Perron dimension is 0.
We characterize Frobenius and separable monoidal algebra extensions $i: R\ra S$ in terms given by $R$ and $S$. For instance, under some conditions, we show that the extension is Frobenius, respectively separable, if and only if $S$ is a Frobenius, respectively separable, algebra in the category of bimodules over $R$. In the case when $R$ is separable we show that the extension is separable if and only if $S$ is a separable algebra. Similarly, in the case when $R$ is Frobenius and separable in a sovereign monoidal category we show that the extension is Frobenius if and only if $S$ is a Frobeniu…
The spectral radius of matrix, also known as Frobenius-Perron dimension, is a useful tool for studying linear algebras and plays an important role in the classification of the representation categories of algebras. In this paper, we study the Frobenius-Perron theory of the representation categories of bound quiver algebras containing loops, find a way to calculate the Frobenius-Perron dimension of these algebras when they satisfy the commutativity condition of loops. As an application, we prove that the Frobenius-Perron dimension of the representation category of a modified ADE bounded quiver …
In the first part we study nearly Frobenius algebras. The concept of nearly Frobenius algebras is a generalization of the concept of Frobenius algebras. Nearly Frobenius algebras do not have traces, nor they are self-dual. We prove that the known constructions: direct sums, tensor, quotient of nearly Frobenius algebras admit natural nearly Frobenius structures. In the second part we study algebras associated to some families of quivers and the nearly Frobenius structures that they admit. As a main theorem, we prove that an indecomposable algebra associated to a bound quiver $(Q,I)$ with no mon…
We introduce the concept of braided BiHom-Frobenius algebras and give the cocycle bicrossproduct construction for BiHom-Frobenius algebras. We find that the extending problem for BiHom-Frobenius algebras can be classified by non-abelian cohomology theory.
This note presents some results on projective modules and the Grothendieck groups K_0 and G_0 for Frobenius algebras and for certain Hopf Galois extensions. Our principal technical tools are the Higman trace for Frobenius algebras and a product formula for Hattori-Stallings ranks of projectives over Hopf Galois extensions.
In this paper, we study the Poisson (co)homology of a Frobenius Poisson algebra. More precisely, we show that there exists a duality between the Poisson homology and the Poisson cohomology, similar to the duality between the Hochschild homology and the Hochschild cohomology of a Frobenius algebra. Using the non-degenerated bilinear form on a Frobenius algebra we construct a Batalin-Vilkovisky structure on the Poisson cohomology ring of a class of Frobenius Poisson algebras.
We define quasi-Frobenius semigroups and find necessary and sufficient conditions under which a semigroup algebra of a 0-cancellative semigroup is quasi-Frobenius.
We study a Hopf algebra $H$, which is finitely generated and projective over a commutative ring $k$, as a $P$-Frobenius algebra. We define modular functions in this setting, and provide a complete proof of Radford's formula for the fourth power of the antipode, using Frobenius algebraic techniques. As further applications, we extend Etingof and Gelaki's result that a separable and coseparable Hopf algebra has antipode of order two, the result of Schneider that Hopf subalgebras are twisted Frobenius extensions, and show that the quantum double is always a Frobenius algebra.
We define Calabi-Yau and periodic Frobenius algebras over arbitrary base commutative rings. We define a Hochschild analogue of Tate cohomology, and show that the "stable Hochschild cohomology" of periodic CY Frobenius algebras has a Batalin-Vilkovisky and Frobenius algebra structure. Such algebras include (centrally extended) preprojective algebras of (generalized) Dynkin quivers, and group algebras of classical periodic groups. We use this theory to compute (for the first time) the Hochschild cohomology of many algebras related to quivers, and to simplify the description of known results. Fur…
We develop a theory of \emph{locally Frobenius algebras} which are colimits of certain directed systems of Frobenius algebras. A major goal is to obtain analogues of the work of Moore \& Peterson and Margolis on \emph{nearly Frobenius algebras} and \emph{$P$-algebras} which was applied to graded Hopf algebras such as the Steenrod algebra for a prime. Such locally Frobenius algebras are coherent and in studying their modules we are naturally led to focus on coherent and finite dimensional modules. Indeed, the category of coherent modules over locally Frobenius algebra $A$ is abelian with enough…
Let k be a field of characteristic p>0. A theorem of de Jong shows that morphisms of modules over W(k)[[t]] with Frobenius and connection structure descend from the completion of W(k)((t)). A careful reading of de Jong's proof suggests the possibility that an analogous theorem holds for modules with only a Frobenius structure. We show that this analogue holds in one weak formulation and fails in a second stronger formulation.
In the first part of this article we prove that one of the conditions required in the original definition of nearly Frobenius algebra, the coassociativity, is redundant. Also, we determine the Frobenius dimension of the product and tensor product of two nearly Frobenius algebras from the Frobenius dimension of each of them. We apply these results to semisimple algebras. In the second part we introduce the notion of normalized nearly Frobenius algebra. We prove a series of equivalences: the concept of normalized nearly Frobenius algebra is equivalent to the concept of separable algebra, equival…
We consider Frobenius algebras in the monoidal category of right comodules over a Hopf algebra $H$. If $H$ is a group Hopf algebra, we study a more general Frobenius type property and uncover the structure of graded Frobenius algebras. Graded symmetric algebras are also investigated.
This expository article presents a unified ring theoretic approach, based on the theory of Frobenius algebras, to a variety of results on Hopf algebras. These include a theorem of S. Zhu on the degrees of irreducible representations, the so-called class equation, the determination of the semisimplicity locus of the Grothendieck ring, the spectrum of the adjoint class and a non-vanishing result for the adjoint character.
We show that the Nakayama automorphism of a Frobenius algebra $R$ over a field $k$ is independent of the field (Theorem 4). Consequently, the $k$-dual functor on left $R$-modules and the bimodule isomorphism type of the $k$-dual of $R$, and hence the question of whether $R$ is a symmetric $k$-algebra, are independent of $k$. We give a purely ring-theoretic condition that is necessary and sufficient for a finite-dimensional algebra over an infinite field to be a symmetric algebra (Theorem 7). Key words: Nakayama automorphism, Frobenius algebra, Frobenius ring, symmetric algebra, dual module, du…
In this paper, we define and discuss higher-dimensional and absolute versions of symmetric, Frobenius, and quasi-Frobenius algebras. In particular, we compare these with the relative notions defined by Scheja and Storch. We also prove the validity of codimension two-argument for modules over a coherent sheaf of algebras with a $2$-canonical module, generalizing a result of the author.
We study quasi-Hopf algebras and their subobjects over certain commutative rings from the point of view of Frobenius algebras. We introduce a type of Radford formula involving an anti-automorphism and the Nakayama automorphism of a Frobenius algebra, then view several results in quantum algebras from this vantage-point. In addition, separability and strong separability of quasi-Hopf algebras are studied as Frobenius algebras.
Firm Frobenius algebras are firm algebras and counital coalgebras such that the comultiplication is a bimodule map. They are investigated by categorical methods based on a study of adjunctions and lifted functors. Their categories of comodules and of firm modules are shown to be isomorphic if and only if a canonical comparison functor from the category of comodules to the category of non-unital modules factorizes through the category of firm modules. This happens for example if the underlying algebra possesses local units, e.g. the firm Frobenius algebra arises from a co-Frobenius coalgebra ov…
In the paper, we define the notion of a state BCK-algebra and a state-morphism BCK-algebra extending the language of BCK-algebras by adding a unary operator which models probabilistic reasoning. We present a relation between state operators and state-morphism operators and measures and states on BCK-algebras, respectively. We study subdirectly irreducible state (morphism) BCK-algebras. We introduce the concept of an adjoint pair in BCK-algebras and show that there is a one-to-one correspondence between adjoint pairs and state-morphism operators. In addition, we show the generators of quasivari…
We investigate when a weak Hopf algebra H is Frobenius; we show this is not always true, but it is true if the semisimple base algebra A has all its matrix blocks of the same dimension. However, if A is a semisimple algebra not having this property, there is a weak Hopf algebra H with base A which is not Frobenius (and consequently, it is not Frobenius "over" A either). We give, moreover, a categorical counterpart of the result that a Hopf algebra is a Frobenius algebra for a noncoassociative generalization of weak Hopf algebra.
"Co-Frobenius" coalgebras were introduced as dualizations of Frobenius algebras. Recently, it was shown in \cite{I} that they admit left-right symmetric characterizations analogue to those of Frobenius algebras: a coalgebra $C$ is co-Frobenius if and only if it is isomorphic to its rational dual. We consider the more general quasi-co-Frobenius (QcF) coalgebras; in the first main result we show that these also admit symmetric characterizations: a coalgebra is QcF if it is weakly isomorphic to its (left, or equivalently right) rational dual $Rat(C^*)$, in the sense that certain coproduct or prod…
We extend to the co-Frobenius case a result of Drinfeld and Radford related to the fourth power of the antipode of a finite dimensional (co)quasitriangular Hopf algebra.
The category of Frobenius Lie algebras is stable under deformation, and here we examine explicit infinitesimal deformations of four and six dimensional Frobenius Lie algebras with the goal of understanding if the spectrum of a Frobenius Lie algebra can evolve under deformation. It can.
The purpose of this paper is to study deformation theory of Hom-associative algebra morphisms and Hom-Lie algebra morphisms. We introduce a suitable cohomology and discuss Infinitesimal deformations, equivalent deformations and obstructions. Moreover, we provide some examples.
Analogous to a recent result of N. Kowalzig and U. Krähmer for twisted Calabi-Yau algebras, we show that the Hochschild cohomology ring of a Frobenius algebra with semisimple Nakayama automorphism is a Batalin-Vilkovisky algebra, thus generalizing a result of T.Tradler for finite dimensional symmetric algebras. We give a criterion to determine when a Frobenius algebra given by quiver with relations has semisimple Nakayama automorphism and apply it to some known classes of tame Frobenius algebras. We also provide ample examples including quantum complete intersections, finite dimensional Hopf a…
We present a unified apoach to the study of separable and Frobenius algebras. The crucial observation is thsat both cases are related to the nonlinear equation $R^{12}R^{23}=R^{23}R^{13}=R^{13}R^{12}$, called the FS-equation. Given a solution of the FS-equation satisfying certain normalizing conditions, we can construct a Frobenius algebra or a separable algebra A(R). The main result of this paper in the structure of this two fundamental types of algebras: a finitely generated projective Frobenius or separable $k$-algebra $A$ is isomorphic to such A(R). If $A$ is free as a $k$-module, then A(R…
In this introductory paper we study nearly Frobenius algebras which are generalizations of the concept of a Frobenius algebra which appear naturally in topology: nearly Frobenius algebras have no traces (co-units). We survey the most basic foundational results and some of the applications they encounter in geometry, topology and representation theory.
With a small suitable modification, dropping the projectivity condition, we extend the notion of a Frobenius algebra to grant that a Frobenius algebra over a Frobenius commutative ring is itself a Frobenius ring. The modification introduced here also allows Frobenius finite rings to be precisely those rings which are Frobenius finite algebras over their characteristic subrings. From the perspective of linear codes, our work expands one's options to construct new finite Frobenius rings from old ones. We close with a discussion of generalized versions of the MacWilliams identities that may be ob…
