Given a compact $n$-dimensional immersed Riemannian manifold $M^n$ in some Euclidean space we prove that if the Hausdorff dimension of the singular set of the Gauss map is small, then $M^n$ is homeomorphic to the sphere $S^n$.
Also, we define a concept of finite geometrical type and prove that finite geometrical type hypersurfaces with small set of points of zero Gauss-Kronecker curvature are topologically the sphere minus a finite number of points. A characterization of the $2n$-catenoid is obtained.
A locally conformally Kähler (LCK) manifold is a manifold which is covered by a Kähler manifold, with the deck transform group acting by homotheties. We show that the search for LCK metrics on Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds leads to a (yet another) variation on Kronecker's theorem on units. In turn, this implies that on Oeljeklaus-Toma manifold associated to number fields with $2t$ complex embeddings and $s$ real embeddings with $s<t$ there is no LCK metric.
The closure conditions of the inexact exterior differential form and dual form (an equality to zero of differentials of these forms) can be treated as a definition of some differential-geometrical structure. Such a connection discloses the properties and specific features of the differential-geometrical structures. The using of skew-symmetric differential forms enables one to reveal a mechanism of forming differential-geometrical structures as well. To do this, it is necessary to consider the skew-symmetric differential forms whose basis, unlike to the case of exterior differential forms, are …
Our aim is to support the choice of two remarkable connections with torsion in a 3-Sasakian manifold, proving that, in contrast to the Levi-Civita connection, the holonomy group in the homogeneous cases reduces to a proper subgroup of the special orthogonal group, of dimension considerably smaller. We realize the computations of the holonomies in a unified way, by using as a main algebraic tool a nonassociative structure, that one of symplectic triple system.
In this paper, we consider the stability of $ F $-harmonic map with $ m $-form and potential into pinched manifold. We also consider the stability of $ F $-symphonic map with potential form or into compact $Φ$-SSU manifold. We also consider the stability of $ F $-symphonic map with potential into pinched manifold.
We prove the meromorphic extension to C for the resolvent of the Laplacian on a class of geometrically finite hyperbolic manifolds with infinite volume and we give a polynomial bound on the number of resonances. This class notably contains the geometrically finite quotients with rational non-maximal rank cusps previously studied by Froese-Hislop-Perry.
We investigate harmonic forms of geometrically formal metrics, which are defined as those having the exterior product of any two harmonic forms still harmonic. We prove that a formal Sasakian metric can exist only on a real cohomology sphere and that holomorphic forms of a formal Kähler metric are parallel w.r.t. the Levi-Civita connection. In the general Riemannian case a formal metric with maximal second Betti number is shown to be flat. Finally we prove that a six-dimensional manifold with $b_1 \neq 1, b_2 \geqslant 2$ and not having the cohomology algebra of $\mathbb{T}^3 \times S^3$ carri…
We first partially extend a theorem of Topping, on the relation between mean curvature and intrinsic diameter, from immersed submanifolds of $\mathbb{R} ^{n} $ to almost everywhere immersed, closed submanifolds of a compact Riemannian manifold. We use this to prove quantization of energy for pseudo-holomorphic closed curves, of all genus, in a compact locally conformally symplectic manifold.
A pre-Lie algebroid is an anchored bundle provided with an almost Lie bracket such that the anchor is compatible with the Lie bracket of vector fields. We firstly show how most geometrical structures intensively studied in the framework of Lie algebroid can easily be extended in the pre-Lie algebroid context. The principal purpose of this paper is to show that how all these results only depend of the foliated structure and do not depend of the pre-Lie algebroid structure that we can put on a foliated anchored bundle. As application, we obtain a Finsler connection on a foliated anchored bundle …
For geometrically finite hyperbolic manifolds $Γ\backslash H^{n+1}$, we prove the meromorphic extension of the resolvent of Laplacian, Poincaré series, Einsenstein series and scattering operator to the whole complex plane. We also deduce the asymptotics of lattice points of $Γ$ in large balls of $H^{n+1}$ in terms of the Hausdorff dimension of the limit set of $Γ$.
The paper sketches a recent progress and formulates several open problems in studying equivariant quasiconformal and quasisymmetric homeomorphisms in negatively curved spaces as well as geometry and topology of noncompact geometrically finite negatively curved manifolds and their boundaries at infinity having Carnot--Carathéodory structures. Especially, the most interesting are complex hyperbolic manifolds with Cauchy--Riemannian structure at infinity, which occupy a distinguished niche and whose properties make them surprisingly different from real hyperbolic ones.
These revised lecture notes are an expository account of part of the proof of Thurston's Ending Lamination Conjecture for Kleinian surface groups, which states that such groups are uniquely determined by invariants that describe the asymptotic structure of the ends of their quotient manifolds.
On geometrically finite hyperbolic manifolds $Γ\backslash H^{d}$, including those with non-maximal rank cusps, we give upper bounds on the number $N(R)$ of resonances of the Laplacian in disks of size $R$ as $R\to \infty$. In particular, if the parabolic subgroups of $Γ$ satisfy a certain Diophantine condition, the bound is $N(R)= O(R^d (\log R)^{d+1})$.
For a non-compact hyperbolic 3-manifold with cusps we prove an explicit formula that relates the regularized analytic torsion associated to the even symmetric powers of the standard representation of SL_2(C) to the corresponding Reidemeister torsion. Our proof rests on an expression of the analytic torsion in terms of special values of Ruelle zeta functions as well as on recent work of Pere Menal-Ferrer and Joan Porti.
The scattering data of a Riemannian manifold with boundary record the incoming and outgoing directions of each geodesic passing through. We show that the scattering data of a generic Riemannian surface with no trapped geodesics and no conjugate points determine the lengths of geodesics. Counterexamples exists when trapped geodesics are allowed.
We extend the concept of renormalized volume for geometrically finite hyperbolic $3$-manifolds, and show that is continuous for geometrically convergent sequences of hyperbolic structures over an acylindrical 3-manifold $M$ with geometrically finite limit. This allows us to show that the renormalized volume attains its minimum (in terms of the conformal class at $\partial M = S$) at the geodesic class, the conformal class for which the boundary of the convex core is totally geodesic.
We show by example that the Chern numbers c_1^3 and c_1 c_2 of a complex 3-fold are not determined by the topology of the underlying smooth compact 6-manifold. In fact, we observe that infinitely many different values of a Chern number can be achieved by (integrable) complex structures on a fixed 6-manifold.
We say that a germ G of a geometric structure can be transplanted into a manifold M if there is a suitable geometric structure on M which agrees with G on a neighborhood of some point P of M. We show for a wide variety of geometric structures that this transplantation is always possible provided that M does in fact admit some such structure of this type. We use this result to show that a curvature identity which holds in the category of compact manifolds admitting such a structure holds for germs as well and we present examples illustrating this result. We also use this result to show geometri…
We prove the rigidity and vanishing of several indices of "geometrically natural" twisted Dirac operators on almost even-Clifford Hermitian manifolds admitting circle actions by automorphisms.
In this paper two metric properties on geodesic length spaces are introduced by means of the metric projection, studying their validity on Alexandrov and Busemann NPC spaces. In particular, we prove that both properties characterize the non-positivity of the sectional curvature on Riemannian manifolds. Further results are also established on reversible/non-reversible Finsler-Minkowski spaces.
We extend profound results in pluripotential theory on Kahler manifolds to Sasaki setting via its transverse Kahler structure. As in Kahler case, these results form a very important piece to solve the existence of Sasaki metrics with constant scalar curvature (cscs) in terms of properness of K-energy. One main result is to generalize T. Darvas' theory on the geometric structure of the space of Kahler potentials in Sasaki setting. Along the way we extend most of corresponding results in pluripotential theory to Sasaki setting via its transverse Kahler structure.
We give a full geometrical description of local totally geodesic unit vector field on Riemannian 2-manifold, considering the field as a local imbedding of the manifold into its unit tangent bundle with the Sasaki metric.
We define an almost--cosymplectic--contact structure which generalizes cosymplectic and contact structures of an odd dimensional manifold. Analogously, we define an almost--coPoisson--Jacobi structure which generalizes a Jacobi structure. Moreover, we study relations between these structures and analyse the associated algebras of functions. As examples of the above structures, we present geometrical dynamical structures of the phase space of a general relativistic particle, regarded as the 1st jet space of motions in a spacetime. We describe geometric conditions by which a metric and a connect…
It is well known from the work of [2] that the Fujita phenomenon for reaction-diffusion evolution equations with power nonlinearities does not occur on the hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^N$, thus marking a striking difference with the Euclidean situation. We show that, on classes of manifolds in which the bottom $Λ$ of the $L^2$ spectrum of $-Δ$ is strictly positive (the hyperbolic space being thus included), a different version of the Fujita phenomenon occurs for other kinds of nonlinearities, in which the role of the critical Fujita exponent in the Euclidean case is taken by $Λ$. Such nonlinea…

Valence two Killing tensors in the Euclidean and Minkowski planes are classified under the action of the group which preserves the type of the corresponding Killing web. The classification is based on an analysis of the system of determining partial differential equations for the group invariants and is entirely algebraic. The approach allows to classify both characteristic and non characteristic Killing tensors.
We take advantage of different generalizations of the tangent manifold to the context of graded manifolds, together with the notion of super section along a morphism of graded manifolds, to obtain intrinsic definitions of the main objects in supermechanics such as, the vertical endomorphism, the canonical and the Cartan's graded forms, the total time derivative operator and the super--Legendre transformation. In this way, we obtain a correspondence between the Lagrangian and the Hamiltonian formulations of supermechanics.
The twist construction is a geometric T-duality that produces new manifolds from old, works well with for example hypercomplex structures and is easily inverted. It tends to destroy properties such as the hyperKähler condition. On the other hand modifications preserve the hyperKähler property, but do not have an obvious inversion. In this paper we show how elementary deformations provide a link between the two constructions, and use the twist construction to build hyperKähler and strong HKT structures. In the process, we provide a full classification of complete hyperKähler four-manifolds with…
As a final work to establish that frame flows for geometrically finite hyperbolic manifolds of arbitrary dimensions are exponentially mixing with respect to the Bowen-Margulis-Sullivan measure, this paper focuses on the case with cusps. To prove this, we utilize the countably infinite symbolic coding of the geodesic flow of Li-Pan and perform a frame flow version of Dolgopyat's method à la Sarkar-Winter and Tsujii-Zhang. This requires the local non-integrability condition and the non-concentration property but the challenge in the presence of cusps is that the latter holds only on a large prop…
In this paper, we give a complete topological, as well as geometrical classification of closed 3-dimensional Lorentz manifolds admitting a noncompact isometry group.
We are proposing Tulczyjew's triple for contact dynamics. The most important ingredients of the triple, namely symplectic diffeomorphisms, special symplectic manifolds, and Morse families, are generalized to the contact framework. These geometries permit us to determine so-called generating family (obtained by merging a special contact manifold and a Morse family) for a Legendrian submanifold. Contact Hamiltonian and Lagrangian Dynamics are recast as Legendrian submanifolds of the tangent contact manifold. In this picture, the Legendre transformation is determined to be a passage between two d…
The diameter of a disc filling a loop in the universal covering of a Riemannian manifold may be measured extrinsically using the distance function on the ambient space or intrinsically using the induced length metric on the disc. Correspondingly, the diameter of a van Kampen diagram filling a word that represents the identity in a finitely presented group can either be measured intrinsically its 1-skeleton or extrinsically in the Cayley graph of the group. We construct the first examples of closed manifolds and finitely presented groups for which this choice -- intrinsic versus extrinsic -- gi…
We classify simply connected rationally elliptic manifolds of dimension five and those of dimension six with small Betti numbers from the point of view of their rational cohomology structure. We also prove that a geometrically formal rationally elliptic six dimensional manifold, whose second Betti number is two, is rational cohomology $S^2\times {\mathbb C}P^2$. An infinite family of six-dimensional simply connected biquotients whose second Betti number is three, different from Totaro's biquotients, is considered and it is proved that none of biquotient from this family is geometrically formal…
Some curvature estimates are derived from geometrical data concerning quasi-conformality properties of some commuting linearly independent vector fields on a compact Riemannian manifold.
In the paper `On the Dirac-Frenkel Variational Principle on Tensor Banach Spaces', we provided a geometrical description of manifolds of tensors in Tucker format with fixed multilinear (or Tucker) rank in tensor Banach spaces, that allowed to extend the Dirac-Frenkel variational principle in the framework of topological tensor spaces. The purpose of this note is to extend these results to more general tensor formats. More precisely, we provide a new geometrical description of manifolds of tensors in tree-based (or hierarchical) format, also known as tree tensor networks, which are intersection…
For simple Lie groups, the only homogeneous manifolds $G/K$, where $K$ is maximal compact subgroup, for which the phase of the scalar product of two coherent state vectors is twice the symplectic area of a geodesic triangle are the hermitian symmetric spaces. An explicit calculation of the multiplicative factor on the complex Grassmann manifold and its noncompact dual is presented. It is shown that the multiplicative factor is identical with the two-cocycle considered by A. Guichardet and D. Wigner for simple Lie groups.
