We prove a Bogomolov-Gieseker type inequality for the third Chern characters of stable sheaves on Calabi-Yau 3-folds and a large class of Fano 3-folds with given rank and first and second Chern classes. The proof uses the spreading-out technique, vanishings from the tilt-stability conditions, and Langer's estimation theorem of the global sections of torsion free sheaves. In particular, the result implies that the conjectural sufficient conditions on the Chern numbers for the existence of stable sheaves on a Calabi-Yau 3-fold by Douglas-Reinbacher-Yau needs to be modified.

We prove a type of the Lefschetz hyperplane section theorem on Q-Fano 3-folds with Picard number one and $1/2(1,1,1)$-singularities by using some degeneration method. As a byproduct, we obtain a new example of a Calabi-Yau 3-fold $X$ with Picard number one whose invariants are $$(H_X^3, c_2 (X) \cdot H_X, {e} (X)) = (8, 44, -88),$$ where $H_X$, $e(X)$ and $c_2(X)$ are an ample generator of $\Pic(X)$, the topological Euler characteristic number and the second Chern class of $X$ respectively.
We give some examples of Calabi-Yau 3-folds with $ρ=1$, defined over $\mathbb{Q}$ and constructed as 4-codimensional subvarieties of $\mathbb{P}^7$ via commutative algebra methods. The purpose of the paper is three-fold: (a) we prove that every sequence which is a multidimensional sum of a balanced hypergeometric term has an asymptotic expansion of Gevrey type-1 with rational exponents, (b) we construct a class of $G$-functions that come from enumerative combinatorics, and (c) we give a counterexample to a question of Zeilberger that asks whether holonomic sequences can be written as multisums of balanced hypergeometric terms. The proofs utilize the notion of a $G$-function, introduced by Siegel, and its analytic/arithmetic properties shown recently by André.
We initiate a systematic investigation of the space of 2+1 dimensional quiver gauge theories, emphasising a succinct "forward algorithm". We investigate the mathematical properties of the class of Calabi-Yau four-folds recently found in [arXiv:1303.1832]. This class consists of 921,497 configuration matrices which correspond to manifolds that are described as complete intersections in products of projective spaces. For each manifold in the list, we compute the full Hodge diamond as well as additional topological invariants such as Chern classes and intersection numbers.
