New splitting theorems in a semi-Riemannian manifold which admits an irrotational vector field (not necessarily a gradient) with some suitable properties are obtained. According to the extras hypothesis assumed on the vector field, we can get twisted, warped or direct decompositions. Some applications to Lorentzian manifold are shown and also $\mathbf{S}^{1}\times L$ type decomposition is treated.
We formulate extensions of Wilking's Jacobi field splitting theorem to uniformly positive sectional curvature and also to positive and nonnegative intermediate Ricci curvatures.
The aim of this paper is to prove a normal form Theorem for Dirac-Jacobi bundles using the recent techniques from Bursztyn, Lima and Meinrenken. As the most important consequence, we can prove the splitting theorems of Jacobi pairs which was proposed by Dazord, Lichnerowicz and Marle. As an application we provide a alternative proof of the splitting theorem of homogeneous Poisson structures.
In this paper, I prove a splitting theorem for equifocal submanifolds with non-flat section in a simply connected symmetric space of compact type. Also, by using the splitting theorem, I prove that the sections of equifocal submanifolds with non-flat section in an irreducible simply connected symmetric space of compact type are isometric to a sphere or a real projective space.
Using the short time existence of the Calabi flow, we prove that any extremal Kaehler metric on a product toric variety is a product extremal Kaehler metric.
We show that a Riemannian $3$-manifold with non-negative scalar curvature is flat if it contains an area-minimizing cylinder. This scalar-curvature analogue of the classical splitting theorem of J.~Cheeger and D.~Gromollhas been conjectured by D.~Fischer-Colbrie and R.~Schoen and by M.~Cai and G.~Galloway.
We extend to metric compact mapping tori a splitting result for coKähler manifolds. In particular, we prove that a compact Vaisman manifold is finitely covered by the product of a Sasakian manifold and a circle.
In this paper, we study and partially classify those Riemannian man-ifolds carrying a non-identically vanishing function f whose Hessian is minus f times the Ricci-tensor of the manifold.
We investigate the structure of a Finsler manifold of nonnegative weighted Ricci curvature including a straight line, and extend the classical Cheeger-Gromoll-Lichnerowicz splitting theorem. Such a space admits a diffeomorphic, measure-preserving splitting in general. As for a special class of Berwald spaces, we can perform the isometric splitting in the sense that there is a one-parameter family of isometries generated from the gradient vector field of the Busemann function. A Betti number estimate is also given for Berwald spaces.
In this paper we study some splitting properties on complete noncompact manifolds with smooth measures when $\infty$-dimensional Bakry-Émery Ricci curvature is bounded from below by some negative constant and spectrum of the weighted Laplacian has a positive lower bound. These results extend the cases of Ricci curvature and $m$-dimensional Bakry-Émery Ricci curvature.
In this paper we study complete manifolds equipped with smooth measures whose spectrum of the weighted Laplacian has an optimal positive lower bound and the $m$-dimensional Bakry-Émery Ricci curvature is bounded from below by some negative constant. In particular, we prove a splitting type theorem for complete smooth measure manifolds that have a finite weighted volume end. This result is regarded as a study of the equality case of an author's theorem (J. Math. Anal. Appl. 361 (2010) 10-18).
We show an analogue of the Lorentzian splitting theorem for weighted Lorentz-Finsler manifolds: If a weighted Berwald spacetime of nonnegative weighted Ricci curvature satisfies certain completeness and metrizability conditions and includes a timelike straight line, then it necessarily admits a one-dimensional family of isometric translations generated by the gradient vector field of a Busemann function. Moreover, our formulation in terms of the $ε$-range introduced in our previous work enables us to unify the previously known splitting theorems for weighted Lorentzian manifolds by Case and Wo…
This paper looks at the splitting problem for globally hyperbolic spacetimes with timelike Ricci curvature bounded below containing a (spacelike, acausal, future causally complete) hypersurface with mean curvature bounded from above. For such spacetimes we show a splitting theorem under the assumption of either the existence of a ray of maximal length or a maximality condition on the volume of Lorentzian distance balls over the hypersurface. The proof of the first case follows work by Andersson, Galloway and Howard and uses their geometric maximum principle for level sets of the (Lorentzian) B…
We consider isometric immersions into space forms having the second fundamental form parallel at order k. We show that this class of immersions consists of local products, in a suitably defined sense, of parallel immersions and normally flat immersions of flat spaces.
We generalize the splitting theorem of Cai-Galloway for complete Riemannian manifolds with $\Ric\geq-(n-1)$ admitting a family of compact hypersurfaces tending to infinity with mean curvatures tending to $n-1$ sufficiently fast to the setting of smooth metric measure spaces. This result complements and provides a new perspective on the splitting theorems recently proven by Munteanu-Wang and Su-Zhang. We show that the mean curvature assumption in our result is sharp, which also provides an example showing that the assumption $R\geq-(n-1)$ in the Munteanu-Wang splitting theorem for expanding gra…
We prove a new generalization of the Cheeger-Gromoll splitting theorem where we obtain a warped product splitting under the existence of a line. The curvature condition in our splitting is a curvature dimension inequality of the form $CD(0,1)$. Even though we have to allow warping in our splitting, we are able to recover topological applications. In particular, for a smooth compact Riemannian manifold admitting a density which is $CD(0,1)$, we show that the fundamental group of $M$ is the fundamental group of a compact manifold with nonnegative sectional curvature. If the space is also locally…
In this paper, we have proved a weighted Laplacian comparison of distance function for manifolds with Bakry-Émery curvature bounded from below. Next, we have shown that a gradient $ρ$-Einstein soliton with a bounded integral condition on Ricci curvature splits off a line isometrically. Moreover, using this result, we have established some boundedness conditions on scalar curvature of gradient $ρ$-Einstein soliton.
In this paper, we generalize topological results known for noncompact manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature to spaces with nonnegative $N$-Bakry Émery Ricci curvature. We study the Splitting Theorem and a property called the geodesic loops to infinity property in relation to spaces with nonnegative $N$-Bakry Émery Ricci Curvature. In addition, we show that if $M^n$ is a complete, noncompact Riemannian manifold with nonnegative $N$-Bakry Émery Ricci curvature where $N>n$, then $H_{n-1}(M,\mathbb{Z})$ is $0$.

We prove a splitting theorem for Riemannian n-manifolds with scalar curvature bounded below by a negative constant and containing certain area-minimising hypersurfaces (Theorem 3). Thus we generalise [25,Theorem 3] by Nunes. This splitting result follows from an area comparison theorem for hypersurfaces with non-positive Sigma-constant (Theorem 4) that generalises [23, Theorem 2]. Finally, we will address the optimality of these comparison and splitting results by explicitly constructing several examples.
We give a quite detailed overview on the proof of the Cheeger-Colding-Gromoll splitting theorem in the abstract framework of spaces with Riemannian Ricci curvature bounded from below.
Under an infinitesimal version of the Bishop-Gromov relative volume comparison condition for a measure on an Alexandrov space, we prove a topological splitting theorem of Cheeger-Gromoll type. As a corollary, we prove an isometric splitting theorem for Riemannian manifolds with singularities of nonnegative (Bakry-Emery) Ricci curvature.
We analyze Lorentzian spacetimes subject to curvature-dimension bounds using the Bakry-Émery-Ricci tensor. We extend the Hawking-Penrose type singularity theorem and the Lorentzian timelike splitting theorem to synthetic dimensions $N\le 1$, including all negative synthetic dimensions. The rigidity of the timelike splitting reduces to a warped product splitting when $N=1$. We also extend the null splitting theorem of Lorentzian geometry, showing that it holds under a null curvature-dimension bound on the Bakry-Émery-Ricci tensor for all $N\in (-\infty, 2]\cup (n,\infty)$ and for the $N=\infty$…
A complex contact structure $γ$ is defined by a system of holomorphic local $1$-forms satisfying the completely non-integrability condition. The contact structure induces a subbundle ${\rm Ker}\, γ$ of the tangent bundle and a line bundle $L$. In this paper, we prove that the sheaf of holomorphic $k$-vectors on a complex contact manifold splits into the sum of $\mathcal{O}(\bigwedge^{k}{\rm Ker}\, γ)$ and $\mathcal{O}(L\otimes \bigwedge^{k-1} {\rm Ker}\, γ)$ as sheaves of {\it $\mathbb{C}$-module}. The theorem induces the short exact sequence of cohomology of holomorphic $k$-vectors, and we ob…
In this paper we prove an area comparison result for certain totally geodesic surfaces in 3-manifolds with a lower bound on the scalar curvature. This result is a variant of a comparison theorem of Heintze-Karcher for minimal hypersurfaces in manifolds of nonnegative Ricci curvature. Our assumptions on the ambient manifold are weaker but the assumptions on the surface are considerably more restrictive. We then use our comparison theorem to provide a unified proof of various splitting theorems for 3-manifolds with lower bounds on the scalar curvature.
In this paper we provide some local and global splitting results on complete Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature. We achieve the splitting through the analysis of some pointwise inequalities of Modica type which hold true for every bounded solution to a semilinear Poisson equation. More precisely, we prove that the existence of a nonconstant bounded solution $u$ for which one of the previous inequalities becomes an equality at some point leads to the splitting results as well as to a classification of such a solution $u$.
According to the Weinstein splitting theorem, any Poisson manifold is locally, near any given point, a product of a symplectic manifold with another Poisson manifold whose Poisson structure vanishes at the point. Similar splitting results are known e.g. for Lie algebroids, Dirac structures and generalized complex structures. In this paper, we develop a novel approach towards these results that leads to various generalizations, including their equivariant versions as well as their formulations in new contexts.
Based on recent work of S. K. Donaldson and T. Mabuchi, we prove that any extremal Kaehler metric in the sense of E. Calabi, defined on the product of polarized compact complex projective manifolds is the product of extremal Kaehler metrics on each factor, provided that the integral Futaki invariants of the polarized manifold vanish or its automorphism group satisfies a constraint. This extends a result of S.-T. Yau about the splitting of a Kaehler-Einstein metric on the product of compact complex manifolds to the more general setting of extremal Kaehler metrics.
We study Lorentzian manifolds with a weight function such that the $N$-Bakry-Émery tensor is bounded below. Such spacetimes arise in the physics of scalar-tensor gravitation theories, including Brans-Dicke theory, theories with Kaluza-Klein dimensional reduction, and low-energy approximations to string theory. In the "pure Bakry-Émery" $N= \infty$ case with $f$ uniformly bounded above and initial data suitably bounded, cosmological-type singularity theorems are known, as are splitting theorems which determine the geometry of timelike geodesically complete spacetimes for which the bound on the …
Recently we generalized Toponogov's comparison theorem to a complete Riemannian manifold with smooth convex boundary, where a geodesic triangle was replaced by an open (geodesic) triangle standing on the boundary of the manifold, and a model surface was replaced by the universal covering surface of a cylinder of revolution with totally geodesic boundary. The aim of this article is to prove splitting theorems of two types as an application. Moreover, we establish a weaker version of our Toponogov comparison theorem for open triangles, because the weaker version is quite enough to prove one of t…
In this paper, we study capillary graphs defined on a domain $Ω$ of a complete Riemannian manifold $M$, where a graph is said to be capillary if it has constant mean curvature and locally constant Dirichlet and Neumann conditions on $\partial Ω$. Our main result is a splitting theorem both for $Ω$ and for the graph function on a class of manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature. As a corollary, we classify capillary graphs over domains that are globally Lipschitz epigraphs or slabs in a product space $M = N \times \mathbb{R}$, where $N$ has slow volume growth and non-negative Ricci curvature…
We present several rigidity results for Riemannian manifolds $(M^n,g)$ with scalar curvature $S \ge -n(n-1)$ (or $S\ge 0$), and having compact boundary $N$ satisfying a related mean curvature inequality. The proofs make use of results on marginally outer trapped surfaces applied to appropriate initial data sets. One of the results involves an analysis of Obata's equation on manifolds with boundary. This result is relevant to recent work of Lan-Hsuan Huang and the second author concerning the rigidity of asymptotically locally hyperbolic manifolds with zero mass.
We prove that if a compact Kähler Poisson manifold has a symplectic leaf with finite fundamental group, then after passing to a finite étale cover, it decomposes as the product of the universal cover of the leaf and some other Poisson manifold. As a step in the proof, we establish a special case of Beauville's conjecture on the structure of compact Kähler manifolds with split tangent bundle.

We study the Seiberg-Witten invariant $λ_{\rm{SW}} (X)$ of smooth spin $4$-manifolds $X$ with integral homology of $S^1\times S^3$ defined by Mrowka, Ruberman, and Saveliev as a signed count of irreducible monopoles amended by an index-theoretic correction term. We prove a splitting formula for this invariant in terms of the Frøyshov invariant $h(X)$ and a certain Lefschetz number in the reduced monopole Floer homology of Kronheimer and Mrowka. We apply this formula to obstruct existence of metrics of positive scalar curvature on certain 4-manifolds, and to exhibit new classes of integral homo…
The main result is a short effective proof of Tao Li's theorem that a closed non Haken hyperbolic 3-manifold N has at most finitely many irreducible Heegaard splittings.
