We compactify the spaces $K(m,n)$ introduced by Maxim Kontsevich. The initial idea was to construct an $L_\infty$ algebra governing the deformations of a (co)associative bialgebra. However, this compactification leads not to a resolution of the PROP of (co)associative bialgebras, but to a new algebraic structure we call here a CROC. It turns out that these constructions are related to the non-commutative deformations of (co)associative bialgebras. We construct an associative dg algebra conjecturally governing the non-commutative deformations of a bialgebra. Then, using the Quillen duality, we construct a dg Lie algebra conjecturally governing the commutative (usual) deformations of a (co)associative bialgebra.
Philosophically, the main point is that for the associative bialgebras the non-commutative deformations is maybe a more fundamental object than the usual commutative ones.
This work is devoted to study new bialgebra structures related to 2-associative algebras. A 2-associative algebra is a vector space equipped with two associative multiplications. We discuss the notions of 2-associative bialgebras, 2-bialgebras and 2-2-bialgebras. The first structure was revealed by J.-L. Loday and M. Ronco in an analogue of a Cartier-Milnor-Moore theorem, the second was suggested by Loday and the third is a variation of the second one. The main results of this paper are the construction of 2-associative bialgebras, 2-bialgebras and 2-2-bialgebras starting from an associative a…
Basic definitions and properties of nearly associative algebras are described. Nearly associative algebras are proved to be Lie-admissible algebras. Two-dimensional nearly associative algebras are classified, and its main classes are derived. The bimodules, matched pairs and Manin triple of a nearly associative algebras are derived and their equivalence with nearly associative bialgebras is proved. Basic definitions and properties of nearly Hom-associative algebras are described. Related bimodules and matched pairs are given, and associated identities are established.
We introduce a concept of $\frac23$PROP generalizing the Kontsevich concept of $\frac12$PROP. We prove that some Stasheff-type compactification of the Kontsevich spaces $K(m,n)$ defines a topological $\frac23$PROP structure. The corresponding chain complex is a minimal model for its cohomology (both are considered as $\frac23$PROPs). We construct a $\frac23$PROP $\End(V)$ for a vector space $V$. Finally, we construct a dg Lie algebra controlling the deformations of a (co)associative bialgebra. Philosophically, this construction is a version of the Markl's operadic construction from [M1] applie…
The aim of this paper is to establish a contravariant adjunction between the category of quasi-bialgebras and a suitable full subcategory of dual quasi-bialgebras, adapting the notion of finite dual to this framework. Various functorial constructions involving non-associative algebras and non-coassociative coalgebras are then carried out. Several examples illustrating our methods are expounded as well.
We introduce the concept of {sigma, tau}-Rota-Baxter operator, as a twisted version of a Rota-Baxter operator of weight zero. We show how to obtain a certain {sigma, tau}-Rota-Baxter operator from a solution of the associative (Bi)Hom-Yang-Baxter equation, and, in a compatible way, a Hom-pre-Lie algebra from an infinitesimal Hom-bialgebra.
We establish a dictionary between the Cacti algebra axioms on a Cacti algebra structure with underlying free associative algebra, under suitable good behavior with degrees. Using these ideas, for an associative algebra $A$ and a bialgebra $H$, we also translate Cacti algebra maps $Ω(H)\to C^\bullet(A)$ (where $Ω(H)$ stands for the cobar construction on $H$ and $C^\bullet(A)$ is the Hochschild cohomology complex) with $H$-module algebra structures on $A$, and illustrate with examples of applications.
In this paper, we construct a bialgebra theory for associative conformal algebras, namely antisymmetric infinitesimal conformal bialgebras. On the one hand, it is an attempt to give conformal structures for antisymmetric infinitesimal bialgebras. On the other hand, under certain conditions, such structures are equivalent to double constructions of Frobenius conformal algebras, which are associative conformal algebras that are decomposed into the direct sum of another associative conformal algebra and its conformal dual as $\mathbb{C}[\partial]$-modules such that both of them are subalgebras an…
Rota-Baxter operators and bialgebras go hand in hand in their applications, such as in the Connes-Kreimer approach to renormalization and the operator approach to the classical Yang-Baxter equation. We establish a bialgebra structure that is compatible with the Rota-Baxter operator, called the Rota-Baxter antisymmetric infinitesimal (ASI) bialgebra. This bialgebra is characterized by generalizations of matched pairs of algebras and double constructions of Frobenius algebras to the context of Rota-Baxter algebras. The study of the coboundary case leads to an enrichment of the associative Yang-B…
A BiHom-associative algebra is a (nonassociative) algebra $A$ endowed with two commuting multiplicative linear maps $α,β\colon A\rightarrow A$ such that $α(a)(bc)=(ab)β(c)$, for all $a, b, c\in A$. This concept arose in the study of algebras in so-called group Hom-categories. In this paper, we introduce as well BiHom-Lie algebras (also by using the categorical approach) and BiHom-bialgebras. We discuss these new structures by presenting some basic properties and constructions (representations, twisted tensor products, smash products etc).
The purpose of this paper is to define an $α$-type cohomology, which we call $α$-type Chevalley-Eilenberg cohomology, for Hom-Lie algebras. We relate it to the known Chevalley-Eilenberg cohomology and provide explicit computations for some examples. Moreover, using this cohomology we study formal deformations of Hom-Lie algebras, where the bracket as well as the structure map $α$ are deformed. Furthermore, we provide a generalization of the Grand Crochet and study, in a particular case, the $α$-type cohomology for Hom-Lie bialgebras.
We study Hom-bialgebras and objects admitting coactions by Hom-bialgebras. In particular, we construct a Hom-bialgebra M representing the functor of 2x2-matrices on Hom-associative algebras. Then we construct a Hom-algebra analogue of the affine plane and show that it is a comodule Hom-algebra over M in a suitable sense. It is also shown that the enveloping Hom-associative algebra of a Hom-Lie algebra is naturally a Hom-bialgebra.
For a Lie algebra with Lie bracket got by taking commutators in a nonunital associative algebra L, let T(L) be the vector space of tensors over L equipped with the Ito Hopf algebra structure derived from the associative multiplication in L. We show a necessary and sufficient condition that the double product integral satisfy the quantum Yang-Baxter equation over T(L). We construct a quantisation of an arbitrary quasitriangular Lie bialgebra structure on L in the unital associative subalgebra of T(L)[[h]] consisting of formal power series whose zero order coefficient lies in the space S(L) of s…
We introduce a Hom-type generalization of quantum groups, called quasi-triangular Hom-bialgebras. They are non-associative and non-coassociative analogues of Drinfel'd's quasi-triangular bialgebras, in which the non-(co)associativity is controlled by a twisting map. A family of quasi-triangular Hom-bialgebras can be constructed from any quasi-triangular bialgebra, such as Drinfel'd's quantum enveloping algebras. Each quasi-triangular Hom-bialgebra comes with a solution of the quantum Hom-Yang-Baxter equation, which is a non-associative version of the quantum Yang-Baxter equation. Solutions of …
A class of non-associative and non-coassociative generalizations of cobraided bialgebras, called cobraided Hom-bialgebras, is introduced. The non-(co)associativity in a cobraided Hom-bialgebra is controlled by a twisting map. Several methods for constructing cobraided Hom-bialgebras are given. In particular, Hom-type generalizations of FRT quantum groups, including quantum matrices and related quantum groups, are obtained. Each cobraided Hom-bialgebra comes with solutions of the operator quantum Hom-Yang-Baxter equations, which are twisted analogues of the operator form of the quantum Yang-Bax…
We define a graded multiplication on the vector space of essential paths on a graph $G$ (a tree) and show that it is associative. In most interesting applications, this tree is an ADE Dynkin diagram. The vector space of length preserving endomorphisms of essential paths has a grading obtained from the length of paths and possesses several interesting bialgebra structures. One of these, the Double Triangle Algebra (DTA) of A. Ocneanu, is a particular kind of quantum groupoid (a weak Hopf algebra) and was studied elsewhere; its coproduct gives a filtrated convolution product on the dual vector s…
A generalisation of the notion of a Rota-Baxter operator is proposed. This generalisation consists of two operators acting on an associative algebra and satisfying equations similar to the Rota-Baxter equation. Rota-Baxter operators of any weights and twisted Rota-Baxter operators are solutions of the proposed system. It is shown that dendriform algebra structures of a particular kind are equivalent to Rota-Baxter systems. It is shown further that a Rota-Baxter system induces a weak peudotwistor [F. Panaite & F. Van Oystaeyen, Twisted algebras, twisted bialgebras and Rota-Baxter operators, arX…
A PROP is a symmetric monoidal category, whose set of objects is the set of natural numbers and on objects the monoidal structure is given by the addition. An algebra over a PROP is a symmetric strict monoidal functor to the tensor category of vector spaces. We give an explicite construction of the PROP whose category of algebras is equivalent to the category of bialgebras (= associative and coassociative bialgebras).
We construct an associative algebra with a decomposition into the direct sum of the underlying vector spaces of another associative algebra and its dual space such that both of them are subalgebras and the natural symmetric bilinear form is invariant or the natural antisymmetric bilinear form is a Connes cocycle. The former is called a double construction of Frobenius algebra and the latter is called a double construction of Connes cocycle which is interpreted in terms of dendriform algebras. Both of them are equivalent to a kind of bialgebras, namely, antisymmetric infinitesimal bialgebras an…
An admissible Poisson algebra (or briefly, an adm-Poisson algebra) gives an equivalent presentation with only one operation for a Poisson algebra. We establish a bialgebra theory for adm-Poisson algebras independently and systematically, including but beyond the corresponding results on Poisson bialgebras given in [27]. Explicitly, we introduce the notion of adm-Poisson bialgebras which are equivalent to Manin triples of adm-Poisson algebras as well as Poisson bialgebras. The direct correspondence between adm-Poisson bialgebras with one comultiplication and Poisson bialgebras with one cocommut…
We find the exotic matrix bialgebras which correspond to the two non-triangular nonsingular 4x4 R-matrices in the classification of Hietarinta, namely, R_{S0,3} and R_{S1,4}. We find two new exotic bialgebras S03 and S14 which are not deformations of the of the classical algebras of functions on GL(2) or GL(1|1). With this we finalize the classification of the matrix bialgebras which unital associative algebras generated by four elements. We also find the corresponding dual bialgebras of these new exotic bialgebras and study their representation theory in detail. We also discuss in detail a sp…
Let ${\Bbb F}_{n}$ be the free group of rank $n$ and let $\bigoplus C^{*}({\Bbb F}_{n})$ denote the direct sum of full group C$^{*}$-algebras $C^{*}({\Bbb F}_{n})$ of ${\Bbb F}_{n}$ $(1\leq n<\infty$). We introduce a new comultiplication $Δ_φ$ on $\bigoplus C^{*}({\Bbb F}_{n})$ such that $(\bigoplus C^{*}({\Bbb F}_{n}),\,Δ_φ)$ is a non-cocommutative C$^{*}$-bialgebra. With respect to $Δ_φ$, the tensor product $π\otimes_φπ'$ of any two representations $π$ and $π'$ of free groups is defined. The operation $\ptimes$ is associative and non-commutative. We compute its tensor product formulas of sev…
For a set theoretical solution of the Yang-Baxter equation $(X,σ)$, we define a d.g. bialgebra $B=B(X,σ)$, containing the semigroup algebra $A=k\{X\}/\langle xy=zt : σ(x,y)=(z,t)\rangle$, such that $k\otimes_A B\otimes_Ak$ and $\mathrm{Hom}_{A-A}(B,k)$ are respectively the homology and cohomology complexes computing biquandle homology and cohomology defined in \cite{CJKS} and other generalizations of cohomology of rack-quanlde case (for example defined in \cite{CES}). This algebraic structure allow us to show the existence of an associative product in the cohomology of biquandles, and a compar…
The abelian category of tetramodules over an associative bialgebra $A$ is related with the Gerstenhaber-Schack (GS) cohomology as $Ext_\Tetra(A,A)=H_\GS(A)$. We construct a 2-fold monoidal structure on the category of tetramodules of a bialgebra. Suppose $C$ is an abelian $n$-fold monoidal category with the unit object $A$. We prove, provided some condition (*), that $Ext_C(A,A)$ is an $(n+1)$-algebra. In the case of bialgebras this condition (*) is satisfied when $A$ is a Hopf algebra. Finally, the GS cohomology of a Hopf algebra is a 3-algebra. As well, we consider this kind of questions of …
Let A be a finite dimensional unital associative algebra over a field K, which is also equipped with a coassociative counital coalgebra structure (Δ,\eps). A is called a Weak Bialgebra if the coproduct Δis multiplicative. We do not require Δ(1) = 1 \otimes 1 nor multiplicativity of the counit \eps. Instead, we propose a new set of counit axioms, which are modelled so as to guarantee that \Rep\A becomes a monoidal category with unit object given by the cyclic A-submodule \E := (A --> \eps) \subset \hat A (\hat A denoting the dual weak bialgebra). Under these monoidality axioms \E and \bar\E := …
We introduce the notion of quadri-algebras. These are associative algebras for which the multiplication can be decomposed as the sum of four operations in a certain coherent manner. We present several examples of quadri-algebras: the algebra of permutations, the shuffle algebra, tensor products of dendriform algebras. We show that a pair of commuting Baxter operators on an associative algebra gives rise to a canonical quadri-algebra structure on the underlying space of the algebra. The main example is provided by the algebra End(A) of linear endomorphisms of an infinitesimal bialgebra A. This …
The works of Poincare, Birkhoff, Witt and Cartier, Milnor, Moore on the connected cocommutative Hopf algebras translated in the language of operads means that the triple of operads (Com, As, Lie) endowed with the Hopf compatiblity relation is good. In this paper, we focus on left dipterous (resp. right dipterous) algebras which are associative algebras with an extra left (resp. right) module on themselves and look for good triples were $As$ is replaced by the dipterous operad Dipt. Since the work of Loday and Ronco, the triple of operads (As, Dipt, B_\infty) endowed with the semi-Hopf compatib…
We settle several questions about the theory of universal deformation quantization of Lie bialgebras by giving their complete classification up to homotopy equivalence. An important new technical ingredient introduced in this paper is an endofunctor D in the category of augmented props with the property that for any representation of a prop P in a vector space V the associated prop DP admits an induced representation on the graded commutative tensor algebra S(V) given in terms of polydifferential operators. Applying this functor to the prop LieB of Lie bialgebras we show that universal formali…
This paper addresses a Hom-associative algebra built as a direct sum of a given Hom-associative algebra $(\mathcal{A}, \cdot, α)$ and its dual $(\mathcal{A}^{\ast}, \circ, α^{\ast}),$ endowed with a non-degenerate symmetric bilinear form $\mathcal{B},$ where $\cdot$ and $\circ$ are the products defined on $\mathcal{A}$ and $\mathcal{A}^{\ast},$ respectively, and $ α$ and $α^{\ast}$ stand for the corresponding algebra homomorphisms. Such a double construction, also called Hom-Frobenius algebra, is interpreted in terms of an infinitesimal Hom-bialgebra. The same procedure is applied to character…
We study Thomas Willwacher's twisting endofunctor tw in the category of dg properads P under the operad of (strongly homotopy) Lie algebras. It is proven that if P is a properad under properad Lieb of Lie bialgebras , then the associated twisted properad tw(P) becomes in general a properad under quasi-Lie bialgebras (rather than under Lieb). This result implies that the cyclic cohomology of any cyclic homotopy associative algebra has in general an induced structure of a quasi-Lie bialgebra. We show that the cohomology of the twisted properad tw(Lieb) is highly non-trivial -- it contains the co…
Hochschild two-cocycles play an important role in the deformation à la Gerstenhaber of associative algebras. The aim of this paper is to introduce the category of Hoch-algebras whose objects are associative algebras equipped with an extra magmatic operation \succ verifying the Hochschild two-cocycle relation: (x \succ y)*z+ (x*y)\succ z= x\succ (y*z)+ x*(y\succ z). The free Hoch-algebra over a K-vector space is given in terms of planar rooted trees and the triples of operads (As,Hoch, Mag^\infty) endowed with the infinitesimal relations are shown to be good. We then obtain an equivalence of ca…
This paper is the first of a sequence papers ([Z4]--[Z7]) on the {\it ${\mathcal N}$CS $(\text{noncommutative symmetric})$ systems} over differential operator algebras in commutative or noncommutative variables ([Z4]); the ${\mathcal N}$CS systems over the Grossman-Larson Hopf algebras ([GL],[F]) of labeled rooted trees ([Z6]); as well as their connections and applications to the inversion problem ([BCW],[E4]) and specializations of NCSFs ([Z5],[Z7]). In this paper, inspired by the seminal work [GKLLRT] on NCSFs (noncommutative symmetric functions), we first formulate the notion {\it ${\mathca…
We study the deformation theory of morphisms of properads and props thereby extending to a non-linear framework Quillen's deformation theory for commutative rings. The associated chain complex is endowed with a Lie algebra up to homotopy structure. Its Maurer-Cartan elements correspond to deformed structures, which allows us to give a geometric interpretation of these results. To do so, we endow the category of prop(erad)s with a model category structure. We provide a complete study of models for prop(erad)s. A new effective method to make minimal models explicit, that extends Koszul duality t…
We find the general solution to the twisting equation in the tensor bialgebra $T({\bf R})$ of an associative unital ring ${\bf R}$ viewed as that of fundamental representation for a universal enveloping Lie algebra and its quantum deformations. We suggest a procedure of constructing twisting cocycles belonging to a given quasitriangular subbialgebra ${\cal H}\subset T({\bf R})$. This algorithm generalizes Reshetikhin's approach, which involves cocycles fulfilling the Yang-Baxter equation. Within this framework we study a class of quantized inhomogeneous Lie algebras related to associative ring…
For any commutative algebra $R$ the shuffle product on the tensor module $T(R)$ can be deformed to a new product. It is called the quasi-shuffle algebra, or stuffle algebra, and denoted $T^q(R)$. We show that if $R$ is the polynomial algebra, then $T^q(R)$ is free for some algebraic structure called Commutative TriDendriform (CTD-algebras). This result is part of a structure theorem for CTD-bialgebras which are associative as coalgebras and whose primitive part is commutative. In other words, there is a good triple of operads $(As, CTD, Com)$ analogous to $(Com, As, Lie)$.
In our paper [Markl, Shnider: Drinfel'd Algebra Deformations and the Associahedra, IMRN 1994, no. 4, 169-176] we announced a construction of a cohomology controlling deformations of quasi-coassociative (or Drinfel'd) bialgebras. The full version of the paper will appear as [Markl, Shnider: Drinfel'd Algebra Deformations, Homotopy Comodules and the Associahedra] in Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. The construction in the paper was based on very explicit arguments using deep combinatorial properties of the associahedra. The present paper gives an alternative, general nonsense approach to the construction…
