Let $F$ be a non-Archimedean local field, with the ring of integers $\mathfrak{o}_F. Let $G=GL_N(F)$, $K=GL_N(\mathfrak{o}_F)$ and $π$ a supercuspidal representation of $G$. We show that there exist a unique irreducible smooth representation $τ$ of $K$, such that the restriction to $K$ of a smooth irreducible representation $π'$ of $G$ contains $τ$ if and only if $pi'$ is isomorphic to $π\otimesχ\circ\det$, where $χ$ is an unramified quasicharacter of $F^{\times}$. Moreover, we show that $π$ contains $τ$ with the multiplicity 1. As a corollary we obtain a kind of inertial local Langlands correspondence.
We establish the unicity of types for depth-zero supercuspidal representations of an arbitrary $p$-adic group $G$, showing that each depth-zero supercuspidal representation of $G$ contains a unique conjugacy class of typical representations of maximal compact subgroups of $G$. As a corollary, we obtain an inertial Langlands correspondence for these representations, via the Langlands correspondence of DeBacker and Reeder.
We consider the question of unicity of types on maximal compact subgroups for supercuspidal representations of $\mathbf{SL}_2$ over a nonarchimedean local field of odd residual characteristic. We introduce the notion of an archetype as the $\mathbf{SL}_2$-conjugacy class of a typical representation of a maximal compact subgroup, and go on to show that any archetype in $\mathbf{SL}_2$ is restricted from one in $\mathbf{GL}_2$. From this it follows that any archetype must be induced from a Bushnell--Kutzko type. Given a supercuspidal representation $π$, we give an additional explicit description…
Let $F$ be a non-archimedean local field. We show that any representation of a maximal compact subgroup of $\mathbf{SL}_N(F)$ which is typical for an essentially tame supercuspidal representation must be induced from a Bushnell--Kutzko maximal simple type. From this, we explicitly count and describe the conjugacy classes of such typical representations, and give an explicit description of an inertial Langlands correspondence for essentially tame irreducible $N$-dimensional projective representations of the Weil group of $F$.
Let $F$ be a non-archimedean local field. For any irreducible representation $π$ of an inner form $G'=\mathrm{GL}_{m}(D)$ of $G=\mathrm{GL}_{N}(F)$, there exists an irredubile representation of a maximal compact open subgroup in $G'$ which is also a type for $π$. Then we can consider the problem whether these types are unique or not in some sense. If such types for $π$ are unique, we say $π$ has the strong unicity property of types. On the other hand, there exists a correspondence connecting irreducible representations of $G'$ and $G$, called the Jacquet--Langland correspondence. In this paper…
We investigate the irreducible cuspidal $C$-representations of a reductive $p$-adic group $G$ over a field $C$ of characteristic different from $p$. When $C$ is algebraically closed, for many groups $G$, a list of cuspidal $C$-types $(J,λ)$ has been produced satisfying exhaustion, sometimes for a restricted kind of cuspidal representations, and often unicity. We verify that those lists verify Aut($C$)-stability and we produce similar lists when $C$ is no longer assumed algebraically closed. Our other main results concern supercuspidality. This notion makes sense for the representations $λ$ in …
Let $F$ be a non-archimedean local field of residue characteristic $p\neq 2$. Let $G$ be a connected reductive group over $F$ that splits over a tamely ramified extension of $F$. Yu constructed types which are called tame supercuspidal types and conjectured that Hecke algebras associated with these types are isomorphic to Hecke algebras associated with depth-zero types of some twisted Levi subgroups of $G$. In this paper, we prove this conjecture. We also prove that the Hecke algebra associated with a regular supercuspidal type is isomorphic to the group algebra of a certain abelian group.
Let $F$ be a non-Archimedean local field, $A$ be a central simple $F$-algebra, and $G$ be the multiplicative group of $A$. It is known that for every irreducible supercuspidal representation $π$, there exists a $[G, π]_{G}$-type $(J, λ)$, called a (maximal) simple type. We will show that $[G, π]_{G}$-types defined over some maximal compact subgroup are unique up to $G$-conjugations under some unramifiedness assumption on a simple stratum.
Let $F$ be a non-archimedean local field, $A$ be a central simple $F$-algebra, and $G$ be the multiplicative group of $A$. To construct types for supercuspidal representations of $G$, simple types by Sécherre--Stevens and Yu's construction are already known. In this paper, we compare these constructions. In particular, we show essentially tame supercuspidal representations of $G$ defined by Bushnell--Henniart are nothing but tame supercuspidal representations defined by Yu.
Let $G$ be a connected reductive group over a totally real field $F$ which is compact modulo center at archimedean places. We find congruences modulo an arbitrary power of p between the space of arbitrary automorphic forms on $G(\mathbb A_F)$ and that of automorphic forms with supercuspidal components at p, provided that p is larger than the Coxeter number of the absolute Weyl group of $G$. We illustrate how such congruences can be applied in the construction of Galois representations. Our proof is based on type theory for representations of p-adic groups, generalizing the prototypical case of…
Let G be the unramified unitary group in three variables defined over a p-adic field F of odd resudual characteristic. Gelbart, Piatetski-Shapiro and Baruch attached zeta integrals of Rankin-Selberg type to irreducible generic representations of G. In this paper, we formulate a conjecture on L- and epsilon-factors defined through zeta integrals in terms of local newforms for G, which is an analogue of the result by Casselman and Deligne for GL(2). We prove our conjecture for the generic supercuspidal representations of G.
Let $F$ be a $p$-adic field of characteristic 0, and let $M$ be an $F$-Levi subgroup of a connected reductive $F$-split group such that $Π_{i=1}^{r} SL_{n_i} \subseteq M \subseteq Π_{i=1}^{r} GL_{n_i}$ for positive integers $r$ and $n_i$. We prove that the Plancherel measure for any unitary supercuspidal representation of $M(F)$ is identically transferred under \textit{the local Jacquet-Langlands type correspondence} between $M$ and its $F$-inner forms, assuming a working hypothesis that Plancherel measures are invariant on a certain set. This work extends the result of Mui{ć} and Savin (2000)…
We describe a special case of base change of certain supercuspidal representations from a ramified unitary group to a general linear group, both defined over a p-adic field of odd residual characteristic. Roughly speaking, we require the underlying stratum of a given supercuspidal representation to be skew maximal simple, and the field datum of this stratum to be of maximal degree, tamely ramified over the base field, and quadratic ramified over its subfield fixed by the Galois involution that defines the unitary group. The base change of this supercuspidal representation is described by a can…
This paper gives a classification of stable vectors in dual Vinberg representations coming from a graded Lie algebra of type $F_4$ in a way that is independent of the field of definition. Relating these gradings to Moy-Prasad filtrations, we obtain the input for Reeder-Yu's construction of epipelagic supercuspidal representations. As a corollary, this construction gives new supercuspidal representations of $F_4(\mathbb{Q}_p)$ when $p$ is small.
We define semi-simple strata, semi-simple characters and semi-simple types in G_2(F). With some of these types we construct supercuspidal representations of this group.
We compute the local coefficient attached to a pair $(π_1,π_2)$ of supercuspidal (complex) representations of the general linear group using the theory of types and covers à la Bushnell-Kutzko. In the process, we obtain another proof of a well-known formula of Shahidi for the corresponding Plancherel constant. The approach taken here can be adapted to other situations of arithmetic interest within the context of the Langlands-Shahidi method, particularly, to that of a Siegel Levi subgroup inside a classical group.
In this article, we investigate the variance of local $\varepsilon$-factor for a modular form with arbitrary nebentypus with respect to twisting by a quadratic character. We detect the type of the supercuspidal representation from that. For modular forms with trivial nebentypus, similar results are proved by Pacetti. Our method however is completely different from that of Pacetti and we use representation theory crucially. For ramified principal series (with $\infdiv{p}{N}$ and $p$ odd) and unramified supercuspidal representations of level zero, we relate these numbers with the Morita's $p$-ad…
We study the $l$-adic cohomology of unramified Rapoport-Zink spaces of EL-type. These spaces were used in Harris and Taylor's proof of the local Langlands correspondence for $\mathrm{GL_n}$ and to show local-global compatibilities of the Langlands correspondence. In this paper we consider certain morphisms, $\mathrm{Mant}_{b, μ}$, of Grothendieck groups of representations constructed from the cohomology of the above spaces, as studied by Harris and Taylor, Mantovan, Fargues, Shin, and others. Due to earlier work of Fargues and Shin we have a description of $\mathrm{Mant}_{b, μ}(ρ)$ for $ρ$ a s…
We establish a Weyl-type subconvexity of $L(\tfrac{1}{2},f)$ for spherical Hilbert newforms $f$ with level ideal $\mathfrak{N}^2$, in which $\mathfrak{N}$ is required to be cube-free, and at any prime ideal $\mathfrak{p}$ with $\mathfrak{p}^2 \mid \mathfrak{N}$ the local representation generated by $f$ is not supercuspidal. The proof exploits a distributional version of Motohashi's formula over number fields developed by the first author, as well as Katz's work on hypergeometric sums over finite fields in the language of $\ell$-adic cohomology.
