Let G be the unramified unitary group in three variables defined over a p-adic field F of odd resudual characteristic. Gelbart, Piatetski-Shapiro and Baruch attached zeta integrals of Rankin-Selberg type to irreducible generic representations of G. In this paper, we formulate a conjecture on L- and epsilon-factors defined through zeta integrals in terms of local newforms for G, which is an analogue of the result by Casselman and Deligne for GL(2). We prove our conjecture for the generic supercuspidal representations of G.
Let G be the unramified unitary group in three variables defined over a p-adic field with odd p. The conductors and newforms for representations of G are defined by using a certain family of open compact subgroups of G. In this paper, we determine the conductors of non-supercuspidal representations of G, and give explicit newforms in induced representations for non-supercuspidal generic representations.
Let U(N) be the quasi-split unitary group in N variables for a quadratic unramified extension of p-adic fields. We compute the characters of simple supercuspidal representations of twisted GL(N) and U(N). Comparing them by the endoscopic character relation, we determine the liftings of simple supercuspidal representations of U(N) to GL(N), under the assumption that p is not equal to 2.
We show that $L$-packets of toral supercuspidal representations arising from unramified maximal tori of $p$-adic groups are realized by Deligne--Lusztig varieties for parahoric subgroups. We prove this by exhibiting a direct comparison between the cohomology of these varieties and algebraic constructions of supercuspidal representations. Our approach is to establish that toral irreducible representations are uniquely determined by the values of their characters on a domain of sufficiently regular elements. This is an analogue of Harish-Chandra's characterization of real discrete series represe…
Let $F$ be a non-Archimedean local field, $A$ be a central simple $F$-algebra, and $G$ be the multiplicative group of $A$. It is known that for every irreducible supercuspidal representation $π$, there exists a $[G, π]_{G}$-type $(J, λ)$, called a (maximal) simple type. We will show that $[G, π]_{G}$-types defined over some maximal compact subgroup are unique up to $G$-conjugations under some unramifiedness assumption on a simple stratum.
In this paper, we explicitly compute the standard epsilon factors on both sides of the local Langlands correspondence for simple supercuspidal representations of GL(n,F).
Let $F$ be a non-Archimedean local field, with the ring of integers $\mathfrak{o}_F. Let $G=GL_N(F)$, $K=GL_N(\mathfrak{o}_F)$ and $π$ a supercuspidal representation of $G$. We show that there exist a unique irreducible smooth representation $τ$ of $K$, such that the restriction to $K$ of a smooth irreducible representation $π'$ of $G$ contains $τ$ if and only if $pi'$ is isomorphic to $π\otimesχ\circ\det$, where $χ$ is an unramified quasicharacter of $F^{\times}$. Moreover, we show that $π$ contains $τ$ with the multiplicity 1. As a corollary we obtain a kind of inertial local Langlands corre…
In this article, we study Prasad's conjecture for regular supercuspidal representations based on the machinery developed by Hakim and Murnaghan to study distinguished representations, and the fundamental work of Kaletha on parameterization of regular supercuspidal representations. For regular supercuspidal representations, we give some new interpretations of the numerical quantities appearing in Prasad's formula, and reduce the proof to the case of tori. The proof of Prasad's conjecture then reduces to a comparison of various quadratic characters appearing naturally in the above process. We al…
Let G be the unramified unitary group in three variables defined over a p-adic field of odd residual characteristic. In this paper, we establish a theory of newforms for the Rankin-Selberg integral for G introduced by Gelbart and Piatetski-Shapiro. We describe L and epsilon-factors defined through zeta integrals in terms of newforms. We show that zeta integrals of newforms for generic representations attain L-factors. As a corollary, we get an explicit formula for epsilon-factors of generic representations.
Let $E/F$ be a unramified quadratic extension of non-archimedean local fields of odd characteristic $p$, and $G$ be the unramified unitary group $U(2, 1)(E/F)$. For an irreducible smooth representation $π$ of $G$ over $\overline{\mathbf{F}}_p$, with an underlying irreducible smooth representation $σ$ of a maximal compact open subgroup $K$, we prove that $π$ admits eigenvectors for an appropriate Hecke operator $T_σ$, and we classify those $π$ with non-zero eigenvalues for $T_σ$ by a tree argument; as a corollary, we show $π$ is supersingular if and only if it is supercuspidal.
Let $G$ be the group of rational points of a general linear group over a non-archimedean local field $F$. We show that certain representations of open, compact-mod-centre subgroups of $G$, (the maximal simple types of Bushnell and Kutzko) can be realized as concrete spaces. In the level zero case our result is essentially due to Gelfand. This allows us, for a supercuspidal representation $π$ of $G$, to compute a distinguished matrix coefficient of $π$. By integrating, we obtain an explicit Whittaker function for $π$. We use this to compute the epsilon factor of pairs, for supercuspidal represe…
In this article, we investigate the variance of local $\varepsilon$-factor for a modular form with arbitrary nebentypus with respect to twisting by a quadratic character. We detect the type of the supercuspidal representation from that. For modular forms with trivial nebentypus, similar results are proved by Pacetti. Our method however is completely different from that of Pacetti and we use representation theory crucially. For ramified principal series (with $\infdiv{p}{N}$ and $p$ odd) and unramified supercuspidal representations of level zero, we relate these numbers with the Morita's $p$-ad…
We define epsilon factors for irreducible representations of finite general linear groups using Macdonald's correspondence. These epsilon factors satisfy multiplicativity, and are expressible as products of Gauss sums. The tensor product epsilon factors are related to the Rankin-Selberg gamma factors, by which we prove that the Rankin-Selberg gamma factors can be written as products of Gauss sums. The exterior square epsilon factors relate the Jacquet-Shalika exterior square gamma factors and the Langlands-Shahidi exterior square gamma factors for level zero supercuspidal representations. We p…
We study the $l$-adic cohomology of unramified Rapoport-Zink spaces of EL-type. These spaces were used in Harris and Taylor's proof of the local Langlands correspondence for $\mathrm{GL_n}$ and to show local-global compatibilities of the Langlands correspondence. In this paper we consider certain morphisms, $\mathrm{Mant}_{b, μ}$, of Grothendieck groups of representations constructed from the cohomology of the above spaces, as studied by Harris and Taylor, Mantovan, Fargues, Shin, and others. Due to earlier work of Fargues and Shin we have a description of $\mathrm{Mant}_{b, μ}(ρ)$ for $ρ$ a s…
Let $N/K$ be a finite Galois extension of $p$-adic number fields and let $ρ^\mathrm{nr} : G_K \to \mathrm{Gl}_r(\mathbb Z_p)$ be an $r$-dimensional unramified representation of the absolute Galois group $G_K$ which is the restriction of an unramified representation $ρ^\mathrm{nr}_{\mathbb Q_p} : G_{\mathbb Q_p} \to \mathrm{Gl}_r(\mathbb Z_p)$. In this paper we consider the $\mathrm{Gal}(N/K)$-equivariant local $ε$-conjecture for the $p$-adic representation $T = \mathbb Z_p^r(1)(ρ^\mathrm{nr})$. For example, if $A$ is an abelian variety of dimension $r$ defined over $\mathbb Q_p$ with good ordi…
Let k be a finite extension of Q_p, let G be an absolutely simple split reductive group over k, and let K be a maximal unramified extension of k. To each point in the Bruhat-Tits building of G_K, Moy and Prasad have attached a filtration of G(K) by bounded subgroups. In this paper we give necessary and sufficient conditions for the dual of the first Moy-Prasad filtration quotient to contain stable vectors for the action of the reductive quotient. Our work extends earlier results by Reeder and Yu, who gave a classification in the case when p is sufficiently large. By passing to a finite unramif…
Let $G$ be a split semisimple group over a function field. We prove the temperedness at unramified places of automorphic representations of $G$, subject to a local assumption at one place, stronger than supercuspidality, and assuming the existence of cyclic base change with good properties. Our method relies on the geometry of $\operatorname{Bun}_G$. It is independent of the work of Lafforgue on the global Langlands correspondence.
We study the local epsilon constant conjecture as formulated by Breuning. This conjecture fits into the general framework of the equivariant Tamagawa number conjecture (ETNC) and should be interpreted as a consequence of the expected compatibility of the ETNC with the functional equation of Artin-L-functions. Let K / Q_p be unramified. Under some mild technical assumption we prove Breuning's conjecture for weakly ramified abelian extensions N / K with cyclic ramification group. As a consequence of Breuning's local-global principle we obtain the validity of the global epsilon constant conjectur…
We study the equivariant local epsilon constant conjecture, denoted by $C_{EP}^{na}(N/K,V)$, as formulated in various forms by Kato, Benois and Berger, Fukaya and Kato and others, for certain 1-dimensional twists $T=\mathbb{Z}_p(χ^{nr})(1)$ of $\mathbb{Z}_p(1)$. Following ideas of recent work of Izychev and Venjakob we prove that for $T=\mathbb{Z}_p(1)$ a conjecture of Breuning is equivalent to $C_{EP}^{na}(N/K,V)$. As our main result we show the validity of $C_{EP}^{na}(N/K,V)$ for certain wildly and weakly ramified abelian extensions $N/K$. A crucial step in the proof is the construction of …
Let $K$ be a local non-Archimedean field of positive characteristic and let $L$ be the degree-$n$ unramified extension of $K$. Via the local Langlands and Jacquet-Langlands correspondences, to each sufficiently generic multiplicative character of $L$, one can associate an irreducible representation of the multiplicative group of the central division algebra $D$ of invariant $1/n$ over $K$. In 1979, Lusztig proposed a cohomological construction of supercuspidal representations of reductive $p$-adic groups analogous to Deligne-Lusztig theory for finite reductive groups. In this paper we prove th…
In this paper we formulate a conjecture on the relationship between the equivariant ε-constants (associated to a local p-adic representation V and a finite extension of local fields L/K) and local Galois cohomology groups of a Galois stable \mathbb{Z}_{p}-lattice T of V. We prove the conjecture for L/K being an unramified extension of degree prime to p and T being a p-adic Tate module of a one-dimensional Lubin-Tate group defined over \mathbb{Z}_{p} by extending the ideas of \cite{Breu} from the case of the multiplicative group \mathbb{G}_{m} to arbitrary one-dimensional Lubin-Tate groups. For…
Let F be a p-adic field and n a positive integer. The local Langlands conjecture asserts the existence of a bijection between irreducible admissible representations of GL(n,F) and n-dimensional admissible representations of the Weil-Deligne group of F. This bijection is required to satisfy certain natural compatibilities, of which the most important is compatibility with local functional equations (preservation of L and epsilon factors of pairs). It is enough to construct a bijection with these properties between supercuspidal representations of GL(n,F) and n-dimensional irreducible representa…
Let K be a maximal unramified extension of a nonarchimedean local field with arbitrary residual characteristic p. Let G be a reductive group over K which splits over a tamely ramified extension of K. We show that the associated Moy-Prasad filtration representations are in a certain sense independent of p. We also establish descriptions of these representations in terms of explicit Weyl modules and as representations occurring in a generalized Vinberg-Levy theory. As an application, we use these results to provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of stable vectors in Moy-Pr…
Let $F$ be a local field with residue characteristic $p$, let $C$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p$, and let $\mathbf{G}$ be a connected reductive $F$-group. In a previous paper, Florian Herzig and the authors classified irreducible admissible $C$-representations of $G=\mathbf{G}(F)$ in terms of supercuspidal representations of Levi subgroups of $G$. Here, for a parabolic subgroup $P$ of $G$ with Levi subgroup $M$ and an irreducible admissible $C$-representation $τ$ of $M$, we determine the lattice of subrepresentations of $\mathrm{Ind}_P^G τ$ and we show that $\mathrm{Ind…
This paper contains a complete proof of Fukaya's and Kato's epsilon$-isomorphism conjecture in [23] for invertible Λ-modules (the case of V = V_0(r) where V_0 is unramified of dimension 1). Our results rely heavily on Kato's unpublished proof of (commutative) epsilon-isomorphisms for one dimensional representations of G_{Q_p} in [27], but apart from fixing some sign-ambiguities in (loc.\ cit.) we use the theory of (ϕ,Γ)-modules instead of syntomic cohomology. Also, for the convenience of the reader we give a slight modification or rather reformulation of it in the language of [23] and extend i…
Let $E/F$ be a quadratic extension of non archimedean local fields of odd residual characteristic. We prove a conjecture of Prasad and Takloo-Bighash, in the case of cuspidal representations of depth zero of $\mathrm{GL}(2m,F)$. This conjecture characterizes distinction for the pair $(\mathrm{GL}(2m,F),\mathrm{GL}(m,E))$ with respect to a character $μ\circ \mathrm{det}$ of $\mathrm{GL}(m,E)$, in terms of certain conditions on Langlands paremeters, including an epsilon value. We also compute the multiplicity of the involved equivariant linear forms when $E/F$ is unramified, and also when $μ$ is…
Let $L/K$ be a finite Galois extension of $p$-adic fields and let $L_{\infty}$ be the unramified $\mathbb Z_p$-extension of $L$. Then $L_{\infty}/K$ is a one-dimensional $p$-adic Lie extension. In the spirit of the main conjectures of equivariant Iwasawa theory, we formulate a conjecture which relates the equivariant local epsilon constants attached to the finite Galois intermediate extensions $M/K$ of $L_{\infty}/K$ to a natural arithmetic invariant arising from the étale cohomology of the constant sheaf $\mathbb Q_p/\mathbb Z_p$ on the spectrum of $L_{\infty}$. We give strong evidence of the…
