In this paper, we introduce a concept of B-minimal sub-manifolds and discuss the stability of such a sub-manifold in a Riemannian manifold $(M,g)$. Assume $B(x)$ is a smooth function on $M$. By definition, we call a sub-manifold $Σ$ {\em B-minimal} in $(M,g)$ if the product sub-manifold $Σ\times S^1$ is a {\em minimal} sub-manifold in a warped product Riemannian manifold $(M\times S^1, g+e^{2B(x)}dt^2)$, so its stability is closely related to the stability of solitons of mean curvature flows as noted earlier by G. Huisken, S. Angenent, and K. Smoczyk. We can show that the "grim reaper" in the curve-shortening problem is stable in the sense of "symmetric stable" defined by K. Smoczyk. We also discuss the graphic B-minimal sub-manifold in $R^{n+k}$.
We study the normal operator to the geodesic X-ray transform on functions in the setting of simple asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds. We construct a parametrix for the normal operator in the 0-pseudodifferential calculus and use it show a stability estimate.
In this article we investigate a type of totally geodesic map which has its image being a geodesic in an anisotropic Riemannian manifold. We consider its nonlinear stability among the family of wave maps. We first establish the factorization property and then formulate the stability problem into a PDE system in a specially constructed chart of geodesic normal coordinates. With a generalization of the hyperboloidal foliation, we establish the global existence result associate to small initial data for this PDE system, which leads to the geometric stability.
We show that every finite volume hyperbolic manifold of dimension greater or equal to 3 is stable under rescaled Ricci flow, i.e. that every small perturbation of the hyperbolic metric flows back to the hyperbolic metric again. Note that we do not need to make any decay assumptions on this perturbation. It will turn out that the main difficulty in the proof comes from a weak stability of the cusps which has to do with infinitesimal cusp deformations. We will overcome this weak stability by using a new analytical method developed by Koch and Lamm.
We prove that if an ALE Ricci-flat manifold $(M,g)$ is linearly stable and integrable, it is dynamically stable under Ricci flow, i.e. any Ricci flow starting close to g exists for all time and converges modulo diffeomorphism to an ALE Ricci-flat metric close to $g$. By adapting Tian's approach in the closed case, we show that integrability holds for ALE Calabi-Yau manifolds which implies that they are dynamically stable.
We extend classical Euclidean stability theorems corresponding to the nonrelativistic Hamiltonians of ions with one electron to the setting of non parabolic Riemannian 3-manifolds.
Leon Green obtained remarkable rigidity results for manifolds of positive scalar curvature with large conjugate radius and/or injectivity radius. Using $C^{k,α}$ convergence techniques, we prove several differentiable stability and sphere theorem versions of these results and apply those also to the study of Einstein manifolds.
In this paper, we study the stability of the conical Kähler-Ricci flows on Fano manifolds. That is, if there exists a conical Kähler-Einstein metric with cone angle $2πβ$ along the divisor, then for any $β'$ sufficiently close to $β$, the corresponding conical Kähler-Ricci flow converges to a conical Kähler-Einstein metric with cone angle $2πβ'$ along the divisor. Here, we only use the condition that the Log Mabuchi energy is bounded from below. This is a weaker condition than the properness that we have adopted to study the convergence before. As corollaries, we give parabolic proofs of Donal…
We prove stability of solutions of the complex Monge-Ampère equation on compact Hermitian manifolds, when the right hand side varies in a bounded set in $L^p, p>1$ and it is bounded away from zero. Such solutions are shown to be Hölder continuous. As an application we extend a recent result of Székelyhidi and Tosatti on Kähler-Einstein equation from Kähler to Hermitian manifolds.
In this paper, we discuss the relative $K$-stability and the modified $K$-energy associated to the Calabi's extremal metric on toric manifolds. We give a sufficient condition in the sense of convex polytopes associated to toric manifolds for both the relative $K$-stability and the properness of modified $K$-energy. In particular, our results hold for toric Fano manifolds with vanishing Futaki-invariant. We also verify our results on the toric Fano surfaces.
Let $(X,ω)$ be a compact Hermitian manifold. We establish a stability result for solutions to complex Monge-Ampère equations with right-hand side in $L^p$, $p>1$. Using this we prove that the solutions are Hölder continuous with the same exponent as in the Kähler case \cite{DDGKPZ14}. Our techniques also apply to the setting of big cohomology classes on compact Kähler manifolds.
Conformally Kähler, Einstein-Maxwell metrics and $f$-extremal metrics are generalization of canonical metrics in Kähler geometry. We introduce uniform K-stability for toric Kähler manifolds, and show that uniform K-stability is necessary condition for the existence of $f$-extremal metrics on toric manifolds. Furthermore, we show that uniform K-stability is equivalent to properness of relative K-energy.
In this work, we (partially) generalize two classical tools in study of collapsed manifolds with bounded sectional curvature: a (singular) fibration theorem by Fukaya (1987) and Cheeger-Fukaya-Gromov (1992), and the stability for isometric compact Lie group actions on manifolds by Palais (1961) and Grove-Karcher (1973), to manifolds with local bounded Ricci covering geometry. Our two generalized results have been used in a recent work of Xiaochun Rong in generalizing Gromov's almost flat manifolds theorem to maximally collapsed manifolds with local bounded Ricci covering geometry.
We give a complete criterion for the existence of generalized Kähler Einstein metrics on toric Fano manifolds from view points of a uniform stability in a sense of GIT and the properness of a functional on the space of Kähler metrics.
In this short note, we will prove a volume stability theorem which says that if an n-dimensional toric manifold $M$ admits a $\mathbb{T}^n$ invariant Kähler metric $ω$ with Ricci curvature no less than 1 and its volume is close to the volume of $\mathbb{CP}^n$, $M$ is bi-holomorphic to $\mathbb{CP}^n$.
In this paper, we study Riemannian functionals defined by $L^2$-norms of Ricci curvature, scalar curvature, Weyl curvature, and Riemannian curvature. We try to understand stability of their critical points that are products of Einstein metrics. In particular, we prove that the product of a spherical space form and a compact hyperbolic manifold is unstable for some quadratic functionals if the first eigenvalue of the Laplacian of the hyperbolic manifold is sufficiently small.
We characterize all LVMB manifolds X such that the holomorphic tangent bundle TX is spanned at the generic point by a family of global holomorphic vector fields, each of them having non-empty zero locus. We deduce that holomorphic connections on semi-stable holomorphic vector bundles over LVMB manifolds with this previous property are always flat.
In this paper, we consider the stability of $ F $-harmonic map with $ m $-form and potential into pinched manifold. We also consider the stability of $ F $-symphonic map with potential form or into compact $Φ$-SSU manifold. We also consider the stability of $ F $-symphonic map with potential into pinched manifold.
Riemannian manifolds with non-zero Killing spinors are Einstein manifolds. Klaus Kröncke proved that all complete Riemannian manifolds with imaginary Killing spinors are (linearly) strictly stable in \cite{Kro15}. In this paper, we obtain a new proof for this stability result by using a Bochner type formula in \cite{DWW05} and \cite{Wan91}. Moreover, existence of real Killing spinors is closely related to the Sasaki-Einstein structure. A regular Sasaki-Einstein manifold is essentially the total space of a certain principal $S^{1}$-bundle over a Kähler-Einstein manifold. We prove that if the ba…
We find out upper bounds for the first eigenvalue of the stability operator for compact constant mean curvature surfaces immersed into certain 3-dimensional Riemannian spaces, in particular into homogeneous 3-manifolds. As an application we derive some consequences for strongly stable surfaces in such ambient spaces. Moreover, we also get a characterization of Hopf tori in certain Berger spheres.
We study the stability of compact pseudo-Kähler manifolds, i.e. compact complex manifolds $X$ endowed with a symplectic form compatible with the complex structure of $X$. When the corresponding metric is positive-definite, $X$ is Kähler and any sufficiently small deformation of $X$ admits a Kähler metric by a well-known result of Kodaira and Spencer. We prove that compact pseudo-Kähler surfaces are also stable, but we show that stability fails in every complex dimension $n\geq 3$. Similar results are obtained for compact neutral Kähler and neutral Calabi-Yau manifolds. Finally, motivated by a …
We show that a polarised manifold with a constant scalar curvature Kähler metric and discrete automorphisms is K-stable. This refines the K-semistability proved by S. K. Donaldson.
In this paper, we investigate space-like graphs defined over a domain $Ω\subset M^{n}$ in the Lorentz manifold $M^{n}\times\mathbb{R}$ with the metric $-ds^{2}+σ$, where $M^{n}$ is a complete Riemannian $n$-manifold with the metric $σ$, $Ω$ has piecewise smooth boundary, and $\mathbb{R}$ denotes the Euclidean $1$-space. We can prove an interesting stability result for translating space-like graphs in $M^{n}\times\mathbb{R}$ under a conformal transformation.
We show that a strict, nearly Kähler $6$-manifold with either second or third Betti number nonzero is linearly unstable with respect to the $ν$-entropy of Perelman and hence is dynamically unstable for the Ricci flow.
We discuss multiscale representations of discrete manifold-valued data. As it turns out that we cannot expect general manifold-analogues of biorthogonal wavelets to possess perfect reconstruction, we focus our attention on those constructions which are based on upscaling operators which are either interpolating or midpoint-interpolating. For definable multiscale decompositions we obtain a stability result.
In this paper, we give an explicit second variation formula for a biharmonic hypersurface in a Riamannian manifold similar to that of a minimal hypersurface. We then use the second variation formula to compute the stability index of the known biharmonic hypersurfaces in a Euclidean sphere, and to prove the non-existence of unstable proper biharmonic hypersurface in a Euclidean space or a hyperbolic space, which adds another special case to support Chen's conjecture on biharmonic submanifolds.
We establish various stability results for symplectic surfaces in symplectic $4-$manifolds with $b^+=1$. These results are then applied to prove the existence of representatives of Lagrangian ADE-configurations as well as to classify negative symplectic spheres in symplectic $4-$manifolds with $κ=-\infty$. This involves the explicit construction of spheres in rational manifolds via a new construction technique called the tilted transport.
Let g be a G-invariant Einstein metric on a compact homogeneous space M=G/K. We use a formula for the Lichnerowicz Laplacian of g at G-invariant TT-tensors to study the stability type of g as a critical point of the scalar curvature function. The case when g is naturally reductive is studied in special detail.
We prove the following theorem for Holomorphic Foliations in compact complex kaehler manifolds: if there is a compact leaf with finite holonomy, then every leaf is compact with finite holonomy. As corollary we reobtain stability theorems for compact foliations in Kaehler manifolds of Edwards-Millett-Sullivan and Hollman.
This paper is a sequel to \cite{Xu}. In this paper, an estimation of the Bergman Kernel of Kähler hyperbolic manifold is given by the $L^2$ estimate and the Bochner formula. As an application, an effective criterion of the very ampleness of the canonical line bundle of Kähler hyperbolic manifold is given, which is a generalization of Yeung's result.
We consider Fano manifolds admitting an algebraic torus action with general orbit of codimension one. Using a recent result of Datar and Szekelyhidi, we effectively determine the existence of Kahler-Ricci solitons for those manifolds via the notion of equivariant K-stability. This allows us to give new examples of Kahler-Einstein Fano threefolds, and Fano threefolds admitting a non-trivial Kahler-Ricci soliton.
In this note, we prove that on polarized toric manifolds the relative $K$-stability with respect to Donaldson's toric degenerations is a necessary condition for the existence of Calabi's extremal metrics, and also we show that the modified $K$-energy is proper in the space of $G_0$-invariant Kähler metrics for the case of toric surfaces which admit the extremal metrics.
In this paper, we give a simple control on how an optimal shape can be characterized. The framework of Riemannian manifold of infinite dimension is essential. And the covariant derivative plays a key role in the computation and in the analysis of qualitative properties from the shape hessian. The control depends only on the mean curvature of the domain which is a minimum or a critical point.
In this article we introduce a higher dimensional analogue of Engel structure, motivated by the Cartan prolongation of contact manifolds. We study the stability of such structure, generalizing the Gray-type stability for Engel manifolds.
We show that any $n$-dimensional Fano manifold $X$ with $α(X)=n/(n+1)$ and $n\geq 2$ is K-stable, where $α(X)$ is the alpha invariant of $X$ introduced by Tian. In particular, any such $X$ admits Kähler-Einstein metrics and the holomorphic automorphism group of $X$ is finite.
Paper withdrawn due to errors (superseded by math.AG/0604303). Proposition 11.4 is false, Section 12 is false, and the main statement is true only for bundles $B$ with $c_1(B)$ SU(2)-invariant.
Assume that a projective variety is uniformly valuatively stable with respect to a polarization. We show that the projective variety is uniformly valuatively stable with respect to any polarization sufficiently close to the original polarization. The definition of uniformly valuatively stability in this paper is stronger than that given by Dervan and Legendre in \cite{D-L20}. We also define the valuative stability for the transcendental Kähler classes. Our openness result can be extended to the Kähler cone of projective manifolds.
In this paper, by generalizing the concept of balanced metrics, we shall show that Donaldson's asymptotic approximation of balanced metrics for constant scalar curvature cases can be generalized to extremal Kaehler cases.
In 1980, I. Morrison proved that slope stability of a vector bundle of rank 2 over a compact Riemann surface implies Chow stability of the projectivization of the bundle with respect to certain polarizations. Using the notion of balanced metrics and recent work of Donaldson, Wang, and Phong-Sturm, we show that the statement holds for higher rank vector bundles over compact algebraic manifolds of arbitrary dimension that admit constant scalar curvature metric and have discrete automorphism group.
