In this paper, by generalizing the concept of balanced metrics, we shall show that Donaldson's asymptotic approximation of balanced metrics for constant scalar curvature cases can be generalized to extremal Kaehler cases.
On any compact Riemann surface there always exists a singular non-CSC (constant scalar curvature) extremal K$\ddot{a}$hler metric which is called a non-CSC HCMU (the Hessian of the Curvature of the Metric is Umbilical) metric. In this paper, by moving frames, we show that any non-CSC HCMU metric can not be isometrically minimal immersed into 3-dimensional real space forms even locally. In general, any non-CSC HCMU metric can not be isometrically immersed into 3-dimensional real space forms with constant mean curvature (CMC).
The object of the present paper is to study some properties of para-K$ä$hler manifold whose metric is conformal Einstein soliton. We have studied some certain curvature properties of para-K$ä$hler manifold admitting conformal Einstein soliton.
In this paper, we show that any compact K$ä$hler manifold homotopic to a compact Riemannian manifold with negative sectional curvature admits a K$ä$hler-Einstein metric of general type. Moreover, we prove that, on a compact symplectic manifold $X$ homotopic to a compact Riemannian manifold with negative sectional curvature, for any almost complex structure $J$ compatible with the symplectic form, there is no non-constant $J$-holomorphic entire curve $f:C \rightarrow X$.
In this paper we prove that for a complete, connected and oriented Käler affine manifold $(M,G)$ of dimension $n,$ if it is Kähler affine Ricci flat or the K$\ddot{a}$hler affine scalar curvature $S\equiv0,$ ($n\leq 5$), then the universal covering manifold $\widetilde{M}$ of $M$ is isometric to the Euclidean n-space $E^{n}$.
Let $M^n$ be a compact K$\ddot{a}$hler manifold with almost nonnegative Ricci curvature and nonzero first Betti number. We show that the holomorphic Euler number of $M^n$ vanishes, which gives a new obstruction for compact complex manifolds admitting K$\ddot{a}$hler metrics with almost nonnegative Ricci curvature. A crucial step in the proof is to show a vanishing theorem of Dolbeault-Morse-Novikov cohomology.
In this note we prove the following result: There is a positive constant $ε(n,Λ)$ such that if $M^n$ is a simply connected compact K$\ddot{a}$hler manifold with sectional curvature bounded from above by $Λ$, diameter bounded from above by 1, and with holomorphic bisectional curvature $H \geq -ε(n,Λ)$, then $M^n$ is diffeomorphic to the product $M_1\times ... \times M_k$, where each $M_i$ is either a complex projective space or an irreducible K$\ddot{a}$hler-Hermitian symmetric space of rank $\geq 2$. This resolves a conjecture of F. Fang under the additional upper bound restrictions on section…
We construct new explicit toric scalar-flat K{ä}hler ALE metrics on weighted projective spaces of non-compact type, which we use to obtain smooth extremal K{ä}hler metrics on appropriate resolutions of orbifolds. In particular, we obtain new extremal metrics certain resolutions of weighted projective spaces of compact type.
Toric hyperk{ä}hler manifolds are quaternion analog of toric varieties. Bielawski pointed out that they can be glued by cotangent bundles of toric varieties. Following his idea, viewing both toric varieties and toric hyperk{ä}her manifolds as GIT quotients, we first establish geometrical criteria for the semi-stable points. Then based on these criteria, we show that the cotangent bundles of compact toric varieties in the core of toric hyperk{ä}hler manifold are sufficient to glue the desired toric hyperk{ä}hler manifold.
For the sake of hyperk{ä}hler SYZ conjecture, finding holomorphic Lagrangian fibrations becomes an important issue. Toric hyperk{ä}hler manifolds are real dimension $4n$ non-compact hyperk{ä}hler manifolds which are quaternion analog of toric varieties. The $n$ dimensional residue circle action on it admitting a hyperk{ä}hler moment map. We use the complex part of this moment map to construct a holomorphic Lagrangian fibration with generic fiber diffeomorphic to $(\mathbb{C}^*)^n$, and study the singular fibers.
This is a sequel of \cite{Wang}, which provides a general formalism for this paper. We mainly investigate thoroughly a subclass of toric generalized K$\ddot{a}$hler manifolds of symplectic type introduced by Boulanger in \cite{Bou}. We find torus actions on such manifolds are all \emph{strong Hamiltonian} in the sense of \cite{Wang}. For each such a manifold, we prove that besides the ordinary two complex structures $J_\pm$ associated to the biHermitian description, there is a \emph{third} canonical complex structure $J_0$ underlying the geometry, which makes the manifold toric K$\ddot{a}$hler…
We investigate invariants of compact hyperk{ä}hler manifolds introduced by Rozansky and Witten: they associate an invariant to each graph homology class. It is obtained by using the graph to perform contractions on a power of the curvature tensor and then integrating the resulting scalar-valued function over the manifold, arriving at a number. For certain graph homology classes, the invariants we get are Chern numbers, and in fact all characteristic numbers arise in this way. We use relations in graph homology to study and compare these hyperk{ä}hler manifold invariants. For example, we show t…
We study pluripotential complex Monge-Ampère flows in big cohomology classes on compact K{ä}hler manifolds. We use the Perron method, considering pluripotential subsolutions to the Cauchy problem. We prove that, under natural assumptions on the data, the upper envelope of all subsolutions is continuous in space and semi-concave in time, and provides a unique pluripotential solution with such regularity. We apply this theory to study pluripotential K{ä}hler-Ricci flows on compact K{ä}hler manifolds of general type as well as on stable varieties.
Given a convex body $K \subset \mathbb{R}^n$ with the barycenter at the origin we consider the corresponding K{ä}hler-Einstein equation $e^{-Φ} = \det D^2 Φ$. If $K$ is a simplex, then the Ricci tensor of the Hessian metric $D^2 Φ$ is constant and equals $\frac{n-1}{4(n+1)}$. We conjecture that the Ricci tensor of $D^2 Φ$ for arbitrary $K$ is uniformly bounded by $\frac{n-1}{4(n+1)}$ and verify this conjecture in the two-dimensional case. The general case remains open.
We establish a stability result for elliptic and parabolic complex Monge-Amp{è}re equations on compact K{ä}hler manifolds, which applies in particular to the K{ä}hler-Ricci flow. Dedicated to Jean-Pierre Demailly on the occasion of his 60th birthday.
In this paper, metric reduction in generalized geometry is investigated. We show how the Bismut connections on the quotient manifold are obtained from those on the original manifold. The result facilitates the analysis of generalized K$\ddot{a}$hler reduction, which motivates the concept of metric generalized principal bundles and our approach to construct a family of generalized holomorphic line bundles over $\mathbb{C}P^2$ equipped with some non-trivial generalized K$\ddot{a}$hler structures.
We prove local well-posedness of the Schrödinger flow from $R^n$ into a compact K\{"a}hler manifold $N$ with initial data in $H^{s+1}(R^n, N)$ for $s\geq n/2+4$.
We develop a parabolic pluripotential theory on compact K{ä}hler manifolds, defining and studying weak solutions to degenerate parabolic complex Monge-Amp{è}re equations. We provide a parabolic analogue of the celebrated Bedford-Taylor theory and apply it to the study of the K{ä}hler-Ricci flow on varieties with log terminal singularities.
In this paper, we consider a compact Kahler manifold with extremal Kahler metric and a Mumford stable holomorphic bundle over it. We proved that, if the holomorphic vector field defining the extremal Kahler metric is liftable to the bundle and if the bundle is relatively stable with respect to the action of automorphisms of the manifold, then there exist extremal Kahler metrics on the projectivization of the dual vector bundle.
Let $X$ be a compact toric extremal Kähler manifold. Using the work of Székelyhidi, we provide a combinatorial criterion on the fan describing $X$ to ensure the existence of complex deformations of $X$ that carry extremal metrics. As an example, we find new CSC metrics on 4-points blow-ups of $\C¶^1\times\C¶^1$.
The aim of this paper is to solve a uniform version of the Yau-Tian-Donaldson conjecture for polarized toric manifolds. Also, we show a combinatorial sufficient condition for uniform relative K-polystability.
We give a moment map interpretation of some relatively balanced metrics. As an application, we extend a result of S. K. Donaldson on constant scalar curvature Kähler metrics to the case of extremal metrics. Namely, we show that a given extremal metric is the limit of some specific relatively balanced metrics. As a corollary, we recover uniqueness and splitting results for extremal metrics in the polarized case.
The Hitchin-Kobayashi correspondence for vector bundles, established by Donaldson, Kobayashi, Luebke, Uhlenbeck and Yau, states that an indecomposable holomorphic vector bundle over a compact Kaehler manifold is stable in the sense of Takemoto-Mumford if and only if the vector bundle admits a Hermitian-Einstein metric. Its manifold analogue known as Yau's conjecture, which originated from Calabi's conjecture, asks whether ``stability'' and ``existence of extremal metrics'' for polarized manifolds are equivalent. In this note, the recent progress of this subject, by Donaldson, Tian and our grou…
We use the correspondence between extremal Sasaki structures and weighted extremal Kahler metrics defined on a regular quotient of a Sasaki manifold, established by the first two authors, and Lahdili's theory of weighted K-stability in order to define a suitable notion of (relative) weighted K-stability for compact Sasaki manifolds of regular type. We show that the (relative) weighted K-stability with respect to a maximal torus is a necessary condition for the existence of a (possibly irregular) extremal Sasaki metric. We also compare weighted K-stability to the K-stability of the correspondin…
Based on recent work of S. K. Donaldson and T. Mabuchi, we prove that any extremal Kaehler metric in the sense of E. Calabi, defined on the product of polarized compact complex projective manifolds is the product of extremal Kaehler metrics on each factor, provided that the integral Futaki invariants of the polarized manifold vanish or its automorphism group satisfies a constraint. This extends a result of S.-T. Yau about the splitting of a Kaehler-Einstein metric on the product of compact complex manifolds to the more general setting of extremal Kaehler metrics.
We construct extremal metrics on the total space of certain destabilising test configurations for strictly semistable Kähler manifolds. This produces infinitely many new examples of manifolds admitting extremal Kähler metrics. It also shows for such metrics a new phenomenon of jumping of the complex structure along fibres.
For any complete noncompact K$\ddot{a}$hler manifold with nonnegative and bounded holomorphic bisectional curvature,we provide the necessary and sufficient condition for non-ancient solution to the Ricci flow in this paper.
We characterize those complete K{ä}hler manifolds supporting a nonconstant real-valued function with critical points whose Hessian is complex linear, has pointwise two eigenvalues and whose gradient is a Hessian-eigenvector.
We show how certain topological properties of co-K{ä}hler manifolds derive from those of the Kähler manifolds which construct them. We go beyond Betti number results and describe the cohomology algebra structure of co-Kähler manifolds. As a consequence, we prove that co-Kähler manifolds satisfy the Toral Rank Conjecture: $\dim(H^*(M;\mathbb{Q})) \geq 2^r$, for any $r$-torus $T^r$ which acts almost freely on $M$.
Let (X,Ω) be a closed polarized complex manifold, g be an extremal metric on X that represents the Kähler class Ω, and G be a compact connected subgroup of the isometry group Isom(X,g). Assume that the Futaki invariant relative to G is nondegenerate at g. Consider a smooth family $(M \to B)$ of polarized complex deformations of (X,Ω)\simeq (M_0,Θ_0) provided with a holomorphic action of G with trivial action on B. Then for every t\in B sufficiently small, there exists an h^{1,1}(X)-dimensional family of extremal Kaehler metrics on M_t whose Kähler classes are arbitrarily close to Θ_t. We apply…
In this paper, we study the behavior of Ricci-flat Kähler metrics on Calabi-Yau manifolds under algebraic geometric surgeries: extremal transitions or flops. We prove a version of Candelas and de la Ossa's conjecture: Ricci-flat Calabi-Yau manifolds related by extremal transitions and flops can be connected by a path consisting of continuous families of Ricci-flat Calabi-Yau manifolds and a compact metric space in the Gromov-Hausdorff topology. In an essential step of the proof of our main result, the convergence of Ricci-flat Kähler metrics on Calabi-Yau manifolds along a smoothing is establi…
Let $M=P(E)$ be the complex manifold underlying the total space of the projectivization of a holomorphic vector bundle $E \to Σ$ over a compact complex curve $Σ$ of genus $\ge 2$. Building on ideas of Fujiki, we prove that $M$ admits a Kähler metric of constant scalar curvature if and only if $E$ is polystable. We also address the more general existence problem of extremal Kähler metrics on such bundles and prove that the splitting of $E$ as a direct sum of stable subbundles is necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of extremal Kähler metrics in sufficiently small Kähler classes.…
In this note, we prove that on polarized toric manifolds the relative $K$-stability with respect to Donaldson's toric degenerations is a necessary condition for the existence of Calabi's extremal metrics, and also we show that the modified $K$-energy is proper in the space of $G_0$-invariant Kähler metrics for the case of toric surfaces which admit the extremal metrics.
In this paper, improving a preceding work, we obtain asymptotic polybalanced kernels associated to extremal Kaehler metrics on polarized algebraic manifolds. As a corollary, we have a stronger asymptotic relative Chow-polystability for extremal Kaehler polarized algebraic manifolds. Finally, related to the Yau-Tian-Donaldson Conjecture for extremal Kaehler metrics, we shall discuss the difference between strong relative K-stability and relative K-stability.
This note proves that any locally extremal non-self-conjugate geodesic loop in a Riemannian manifold is a closed geodesic. As a consequence, any complete and non-contractible Riemannian manifold with diverging injectivity radii along diverging sequences and without points conjugate to themselves, possesses a minimizing closed geodesic.
We prove the existence of extremal domains with small prescribed volume for the first eigenvalue of the Laplace-Beltrami operator in any compact Riemannian manifold. This result generalizes a results of F. Pacard and the second author where the existence of a nondegenerate critical point of the scalar curvature of the Riemannian manifold was required.
In joint work with Chen and Weber, the author has elsewhere shown that CP2#2(-CP2) admits an Einstein metric. The present paper gives a new and rather different proof of this fact. Our results include new existence theorems for extremal Kahler metrics, and these allow one to prove the above existence statement by deforming the Kahler-Einstein metric on CP2#3(-CP2) until bubbling-off occurs.
We provide a new proof of a result of X.X.Chen and G.Tian : for a polarized extremal Kähler manifold, an extremal metric attains the minimum of the modified K-energy. The proof uses an idea of C.Li adapted to the extremal metrics using some weighted balanced metrics.
We prove the existence of extremal Sasakian structures occurring on a countably infinite number of distinct contact structures on $T^2\times S^3$ and certain related manifolds. These structures occur in bouquets and exhaust the Sasaki cones in all except one case in which there are no extremal metrics.
We show that the blowup of an extremal Kahler manifold at a relatively stable point in the sense of GIT admits an extremal metric in Kahler classes that make the exceptional divisor sufficiently small, extending a result of Arezzo-Pacard-Singer. We also study the K-polystability of these blowups, sharpening a result of Stoppa in this case. As an application we show that the blowup of a Kahler-Einstein manifold at a point admits a constant scalar curvature Kahler metric in classes that make the exceptional divisor small, if it is K-polystable with respect to these classes.
We prove a version of the Arezzo-Pacard-Singer blow-up theorem in the setting of Poincaré type metrics. We apply this to give new examples of extremal Poincaré type metrics. A key feature is an additional obstruction which has no analogue in the compact case. This condition is conjecturally related to ensuring the metrics remain of Poincaré type.
This is a continuation of the work of Arezzo-Pacard-Singer and the author on blowups of extremal Kähler manifolds. We prove the conjecture stated in [32], and we relate this result to the K-stability of blown up manifolds. As an application we prove that if a Kähler manifold M of dimension greater than 2 admits a cscK metric, then the blowup of M at a point admits a cscK metric if and only if it is K-stable, as long as the exceptional divisor is sufficiently small.
We study nearly-Kahler 6-manifolds equipped with a cohomogeneity-two Lie group action for which the principal orbits are coisotropic. If the metric is complete, then we show that this last condition is automatically satisfied, and both the acting Lie group and the principal orbits are finite quotients of $S^3 \times S^1$. We partition the class of such nearly-Ka}hler structures into three types (called I, II, III) and prove a local existence and generality result for each type. Metrics of Types I and II are shown to be incomplete. We also derive a quasilinear elliptic PDE system on the 2-dimen…
In this paper, we discuss a Donaldson's version of the modified $K$-energy associated to the Calabi's extremal metrics on toric manifolds and prove the existence of the weak solution for extremal metrics in the sense of convex functions which minimizes the modified $K$-energy.
We study algebro-geometric consequences of the quantised extremal Kähler metrics, introduced in the previous work of the author. We prove that the existence of quantised extremal metrics implies weak relative Chow polystability. As a consequence, we obtain asymptotic weak relative Chow polystability and $K$-semistability of extremal manifolds by using quantised extremal metrics; this gives an alternative proof of the results of Mabuchi and Stoppa--Székelyhidi. In proving them, we further provide an explicit local density formula for the equivariant Riemann--Roch theorem.
