An abstract $(v_k,b_r)$-configuration is a pair of finite sets of cardinalities $v$ and $b$ with a relation on the product of the sets such that each element of the first set is related to the same number $k$ of elements from the second set and each element of the second set is related to the same number $r$ of elements in the first set. An example of an abstract configuration is a finite geometry. In this paper we discuss some examples of abstract configurations and, in particular finite geometries, which one encounters in algebraic geometry.
This paper is an overview of my recent work on abstract homomorphisms of algebraic groups. It is based on a talk given at the Conference on Group Actions and Applications in Geometry, Topology, and Analysis held in Kunming in July 2012.
A generalization of incidence relations in abstract polytope has been explored, and parameterized surfaces are used as primers. The abstract orientable incidence structure is defined as an algebraic model of incidence relations, in which some algebraic properties in abtract polytope theory are generalized. The geometric interpretation of abstract orientable incidence structure are also discussed. The orientable incidence structure in a semi-regular normal CW complex are briefly investigated.
In this paper we study abstract group homomorphisms between the groups of rational points of linear algebraic groups which are not necessarily reductive. One of our main goal is to obtain results on homomorphisms from the groups of rational points of linear algebraic groups defined over certain specific fields to the groups of rational points of linear algebraic groups over number fields and non-archimedean local fields of characteristic zero; in this set-up we deal with the unexplored topic of abstract homomorphisms from the groups of rational points of anisotropic groups over non-archimedean…
We analyze the structure of a large class of connected algebraic rings over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic using Greenberg's perfectization functor. We then give applications to rigidity problems for representations of Chevalley groups, recovering, in particular, a rigidity theorem of Seitz.
In this paper, we continue our study of abstract representations of elementary subgroups of Chevalley groups of rank $\geq 2.$ First, we extend our earlier methods to analyze representations of elementary groups over arbitrary associative rings, and as a consequence, prove the conjecture of Borel and Tits on abstract homomorphisms of the groups of rational points of algebraic groups for groups of the form ${\bf SL}_{n,D}$, where $D$ is a finite-dimensional central division algebra over a field of characteristic zero. Second, we apply our results to study deformations of representations of elem…
Using the theory of rational elliptic fibrations, we construct and discuss a one parameter family of configurations of $12$ conics and $9$ points in the projective plane that realizes an abstract configuration $(12_6,9_8)$. This is analogous to the famous Hesse configuration of $12$ lines and $9$ points forming an abstract configuration $(12_3,9_4)$. We also show that any Halphen elliptic fibration of index $2$ with four triangular singular fibers arises from such configuration of conics.
We provide a construction of free factorization algebras in algebraic geometry and link factorization homology of a scheme with coefficients in a free factorization algebra to the homology of its (unordered) configuration spaces. As an application, this construction allows for a purely algebro-geometric proof of homological stability of configuration spaces.
We prove that algebraic K-theory satisfies `pro-descent' for abstract blow-up squares of noetherian schemes. As an application we derive Weibel's conjecture on the vanishing of negative K-groups.
Multiplicative models for configuration spaces of algebraic varieties
W. Fulton和R. MacPherson描述了光滑紧致复代数簇X中标号点的n-构型空间的Sullivan dg-代数模型。I. 根据V.G.的一个想法,Drinfel'd,我们赋予这些新的“穿孔”模型的集合一个单纯的双阶微分代数结构。
This is a survey article written for the Jahresberichte der DMV. Tropical geometry can be viewed as an efficient combinatorial tool to study degenerations in algebraic geometry. Abstract tropical curves are essentially metric graphs, and covers of tropical curves maps between metric graphs satisfying certain conditions. In this short survey, we offer an introduction to the combinatorial theory of abstract tropical curves and covers of curves, and their moduli spaces, and we showcase three results demonstrating how this theory can be applied in algebraic geometry.
B. Totaro showed \cite{totaro} that the rational cohomology of configuration spaces of smooth complex projective varieties is isomorphic as an algebra to the $E_2$ term of the Leray spectral sequence corresponding to the open embedding of the configuration space into the Cartesian power. In this note we show that the isomorphism can be chosen to be compatible with the mixed Hodge structures. In particular, we prove that the mixed Hodge structures on the configuration spaces of smooth complex projective varieties are direct sums of pure Hodge structures.
Algebraic geometry for groups and Lie algebraic has been recently defined and studied by many authors on the purpose to study set defined by algebraic equations on abstract groups and Lie algebras. The purpose of this paper is to present a free coordinates approach of this problem. This must be related to the theory of schemes in classical algebraic geometry, and provide a geomotric framework to study finite groups
We define and study preorderings and orderings on rings of the form $M_n(R)$ where $R$ is a commutative unital ring. We extend the Artin-Lang theorem and Krivine-Stengle Stellensätze (both abstract and geometric) from $R$ to $M_n(R)$. While the orderings of $M_n(R)$ are in one-to-one correspondence with the orderings of $R$, this is not true for preorderings. Therefore, our theory is not Morita equivalent to the classical real algebraic geometry.
A well-known combinatorial algorithm can decide generic rigidity in the plane by determining if the graph is of Pollaczek-Geiringer-Laman type. Methods from matroid theory have been used to prove other interesting results, again under the assumption of generic configurations. However, configurations arising in applications may not be generic. We present Theorem 5 and its corresponding Algorithm 1 which decide if a configuration is epsilon-locally rigid, a notion we define. A configuration which is epsilon-locally rigid may be locally rigid or flexible, but any continuous deformations remain wi…
We analyze the complexity of fitting a variety, coming from a class of varieties, to a configuration of points in $\Bbb C^n$. The complexity measure, called the algebraic complexity, computes the Euclidean Distance Degree (EDdegree) of a certain variety called the hypothesis variety as the number of points in the configuration increases. For the problem of fitting an $(n-1)$-sphere to a configuration of $m$ points in $\Bbb C^n$, we give a closed formula of the algebraic complexity of the hypothesis variety as $m$ grows for the case of $n=1$. For the case $n>1$ we conjecture a generalization of…
The Kuramoto model is a classical model used in the study of spontaneous synchronizations in networks of coupled oscillators. In this model, frequency synchronization configurations can be formulated as complex solutions to a system of algebraic equations. Recently, upper bounds to the number of frequency synchronization configurations in cycle networks of N oscillators were calculated under the assumption of generic non-uniform coupling. In this paper, we refine these results for the special cases of uniform coupling. In particular, we show that when, and only when, N is divisible by 4, the u…
We extend to the context of algebraic groups a classic result on extensions of abstract groups relating the set of isomorphism classes of extensions of $G$ by $H$ with that of extensions of $G$ by the center $Z$ of $H$. The proof should be easily generalizable to other contexts. We also study the subset of classes of split extensions and give a quick application by proving a finiteness result on these sets over a finite field.
In this article, we apply the approach of relative algebraic geometry towards analytic geometry to the category of bornological and Ind-Banach spaces (non-Archimedean or not). We are able to recast the theory of Grosse-Klönne dagger affinoid domains with their weak G-topology in this new language. We prove an abstract recognition principle for the generators of their standard topology (the morphisms appearing in the covers). We end with a sketch of an emerging theory of dagger affinoid spaces over the integers, or any Banach ring, where we can see the Archimedean and non-Archimedean worlds com…
