Eigenfunctions of the Askey-Wilson second order $q$-difference operator for $0<q<1$ and $|q|=1$ are constructed as formal matrix coefficients of the principal series representation of the quantized universal enveloping algebra $U_q(sl(2,\mathbb{C}))$. The eigenfunctions are in integral form and may be viewed as analogues of Euler's integral representation for Gauss' hypergeometric series. We show that for $0<q<1$ the resulting eigenfunction can be rewritten as a very-well-poised ${}_8ϕ_7$-series, and reduces for special parameter values to a natural elliptic analogue of the cosine kernel.
We study Askey-Wilson type polynomials using representation theory of the double affine Hecke algebra. In particular, we prove bi-orthogonality relations for non-symmetric and anti-symmetric Askey-Wilson polynomials with respect to a complex measure. We give duality properties of the non-symmetric Askey-Wilson polynomials, and we show how the non-symmetric Askey-Wilson polynomials can be created from Sahi's intertwiners. The diagonal terms associated to the bi-orthogonality relations (which replace the notion of quadratic norm evaluations for orthogonal polynomials) are expressed in terms of r…
In this paper we present an explicit (rank one) function transform which contains several Jacobi-type function transforms and Hankel-type transforms as degenerate cases. The kernel of the transform, which is given explicitly in terms of basic hypergeometric series, thus generalizes the Jacobi function as well as the Bessel function. The kernel is named the Askey-Wilson function, since it provides an analytical continuation of the Askey-Wilson polynomial in its degree. In this paper we establish the $L^2$-theory of the Askey-Wilson function transform, and we explicitely determine its inversion …
The Askey-Wilson function transform is a q-analogue of the Jacobi function transform with kernel given by an explicit non-polynomial eigenfunction of the Askey-Wilson second order q-difference operator. The kernel is called the Askey-Wilson function. In this paper an explicit expansion formula for the Askey-Wilson function in terms of Askey-Wilson polynomials is proven. With this expansion formula at hand, the image under the Askey-Wilson function transform of an Askey-Wilson polynomial multiplied by an analogue of the Gaussian is computed explicitly. As a special case of these formulas a q-an…
We deal with the classification problem of finite-dimensional representations of so called Askey--Wilson algebra in the case when $q$ is not a root of unity. We classify all representations satisfying certain property, which ensures diagonalizability of one of the generating elements.
In this paper we present an addition to Askey's scheme of q-hypergeometric orthogonal polynomials involving classes of q-special functions which do not consist of polynomials only. The special functions are q-analogues of the Jacobi and Bessel function, and are Askey-Wilson functions, big q-Jacobi functions and little q-Jacobi functions and the corrresponding q-Bessel functions. The generalised orthogonality relations and the second order q-difference equations for these families are given. Limit transitions between these families are discussed. The quantum group theoretic interpretations are …
Nonsymmetric Askey-Wilson polynomials are usually written as Laurent polynomials. We write them equivalently as 2-vector-valued symmetric Laurent polynomials. Then the Dunkl-Cherednik operator of which they are eigenfunctions, is represented as a 2x2 matrix-valued operator. As a new result made possible by this approach we obtain positive definiteness of the inner product in the orthogonality relations, under certain constraints on the parameters. A limit transition to nonsymmetric little q-Jacobi polynomials also becomes possible in this way. Nonsymmetric Jacobi polynomials are considered as …
The two linearly independent solutions of the three-term recurrence relation of the associated Askey-Wilson polynomials, found by Ismail and Rahman in [22], are slightly modified so as to make it transparent that these functions satisfy a beautiful symmetry property. It essentially means that the geometric and the spectral parameters are interchangeable in these functions. We call the resulting functions the Askey-Wilson functions. Then, we show that by adding bound states (with arbitrary weights) at specific points outside of the continuous spectrum of some instances of the Askey-Wilson diffe…
Generalised matrix elements of the irreducible representations of the quantum $SU(2)$ group are defined using certain orthonormal bases of the representation space. The generalised matrix elements are relatively infinitesimal invariant with respect to Lie algebra like elements of the quantised universal enveloping algebra of $sl(2)$. A full proof of the theorem announced by Noumi and Mimachi [Proc. Japan Acad. Sci. {\bf 66}, Ser. A (1990), pp. 146--149] describing the generalised matrix elements in terms of the full four-parameter family of Askey-Wilson polynomials is given. Various known and …
The little and big q-Jacobi polynomials are shown to arise as basis vectors for representations of the Askey-Wilson algebra. The operators that these polynomials respectively diagonalize are identified within the Askey-Wilson algebra generated by twisted primitive elements of $\mathfrak U_q(sl(2))$. The little q-Jacobi operator and a tridiagonalization of it are shown to realize the equitable embedding of the Askey-Wilson algebra into $\mathfrak U_q(sl(2))$.
The $q$-difference equation, the shift and the contiguity relations of the Askey-Wilson polynomials are cast in the framework of the three and four-dimensional degenerate Sklyanin algebras $\mathfrak{ska}_3$ and $\mathfrak{ska}_4$. It is shown that the $q$-para Racah polynomials corresponding to a non-conventional truncation of the Askey-Wilson polynomials form a basis for a finite-dimensional representation of $\mathfrak{ska}_4$. The first order Heun operators defined by a degree raising condition on polynomials are shown to form a five-dimensional vector space that encompasses $\mathfrak{ska…
Following the pioneering work of Duistermaat and Grünbaum, we call a family $\{p_n(x)\}_{n=0}^{\infty}$ of polynomials bispectral, if the polynomials are simultaneously eigenfunctions of two commutative algebras of operators: one consisting of difference operators acting on the degree index $n$, and another one of operators acting on the variable $x$. The goal of the present paper is to construct and parametrize bispectral extensions of the Askey-Wilson polynomials, where the second algebra consists of $q$-difference operators. In particular, we describe explicitly measures on the real line fo…
The Askey-Wilson polynomials are a four-parameter family of orthogonal symmetric Laurent polynomials $R_n[z]$ which are eigenfunctions of a second-order $q$-difference operator $L$, and of a second-order difference operator in the variable $n$ with eigenvalue $z +z^{-1}=2x$. Then $L$ and multiplication by $z+z^{-1}$ generate the Askey-Wilson (Zhedanov) algebra. A nice property of the Askey-Wilson polynomials is that the variables $z$ and $n$ occur in the explicit expression in a similar and to some extent exchangeable way. This property is called duality. It returns in the non-symmetric case a…
It is known that if $(A,B)$ is a Leonard pair, then the linear transformations $A$, $B$ satisfy the Askey-Wilson relations A^2 B - b A B A + B A^2 - g (A B+B A) - r B = h A^2 + w A + e I, B^2 A - b B A B + A B^2 - h (A B+B A) - s A = g B^2 + w B + f I, for some scalars $b,g,h,r,s,w,e,f$. The problem of this paper is the following: given a pair of Askey-Wilson relations as above, how many Leonard pairs are there that satisfy those relations? It turns out that the answer is 5 in general. We give the generic number of Leonard pairs for each Askey-Wilson type of Askey-Wilson relations.
In 1992 A. Zhedanov introduced the Askey-Wilson algebra AW=AW(3) and used it to describe the Askey-Wilson polynomials. In this paper we introduce a central extension $Δ$ of AW, obtained from AW by reinterpreting certain parameters as central elements in the algebra. We call $Δ$ the {\it universal Askey-Wilson algebra}. We give a faithful action of the modular group ${\rm {PSL}}_2({\mathbb Z})$ on $Δ$ as a group of automorphisms. We give a linear basis for $Δ$. We describe the center of $Δ$ and the 2-sided ideal $Δ[Δ,Δ]Δ$. We discuss how $Δ$ is related to the $q$-Onsager algebra.
Automorphisms of the infinite dimensional Onsager algebra are introduced. Certain quotients of the Onsager algebra are formulated using a polynomial in these automorphisms. In the simplest case, the quotient coincides with the classical analog of the Askey-Wilson algebra. In the general case, generalizations of the classical Askey-Wilson algebra are obtained. The corresponding class of solutions of the non-standard classical Yang-Baxter algebra are constructed, from which a generating function of elements in the commutative subalgebra is derived. We provide also another presentation of the Ons…
Inspired by a profound observation on the Racah--Wigner coefficients of $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$, the Askey--Wilson algebras were introduced in the early 1990s. A universal analog $\triangle_q$ of the Askey--Wilson algebras was recently studied. For $q$ not a root of unity, it is known that $Z(\triangle_q)$ is isomorphic to the polynomial ring of four variables. A presentation for $Z(\triangle_q)$ at $q$ a root of unity is displayed in this paper. As an application, a presentation for the center of the double affine Hecke algebra of type $(C_1^\vee,C_1)$ at roots of unity is obtained.
The centralizer of the image of the diagonal embedding of $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$ in the tensor product of three irreducible representations is examined in a Schur-Weyl duality spirit. The aim is to offer a description in terms of generators and relations. A conjecture in this respect is offered with the centralizers presented as quotients of the Askey-Wilson algebra. Support for the conjecture is provided by an examination of the representations of the quotients. The conjecture is also shown to be true in a number of cases thereby exhibiting in particular the Temperley-Lieb, Birman-Murakami-We…
We study matrix elements of a change of base between two different bases of representations of the quantum algebra $U_q(su(1,1))$. The two bases, which are multivariate versions of Al-Salam--Chihara polynomials, are eigenfunctions of iterated coproducts of twisted primitive elements. The matrix elements are identified with Gasper and Rahman's multivariate Askey-Wilson polynomials, and from this interpretation we derive their orthogonality relations. Furthermore, the matrix elements are shown to be eigenfunctions of the twisted primitive elements after a change of representation, which gives a …
Within the quantum affine algebra representation theory we construct linear covariant operators that generate the Askey-Wilson algebra. It has the property of a coideal subalgebra, which can be interpreted as the boundary symmetry algebra of a model with quantum affine symmetry in the bulk. The generators of the Askey-Wilson algebra are implemented to construct an operator valued $K$- matrix, a solution of a spectral dependent reflection equation. We consider the open driven diffusive system where the Askey-Wilson algebra arises as a boundary symmetry and can be used for an exact solution of t…
The Askey--Wilson polynomials are the most general classical orthogonal polynomials that are known and the Nassrallah--Rahman integral is a very general extension of Euler's integral representation of the classical $_2F_1$ function. Based on a $q$-series transformation formula and the Nassrallah--Rahman integral we prove a $q$--beta integral which has twelve parameters, with several other results, both classical and new, included as special cases. This $q$-beta integral also allows us to derive a curious double $q$--series transformation formula, which includes one formula of Al--Salam and Ism…
The higher rank Askey-Wilson algebra was recently constructed in the $n$-fold tensor product of $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$. In this paper we prove a class of identities inside this algebra, which generalize the defining relations of the rank one Askey-Wilson algebra. We extend the known construction algorithm by several equivalent methods, using a novel coaction. These allow to simplify calculations significantly. At the same time, this provides a proof of the corresponding relations for the higher rank $q$-Bannai-Ito algebra.
Let $\mathbb F$ denote an algebraically closed field and assume that $q\in \mathbb F$ is a primitive $d^{\rm \, th}$ root of unity with $d\not=1,2,4$. The universal Askey--Wilson algebra $\triangle_q$ is a unital associative $\mathbb F$-algebra defined by generators and relations. The generators are $A,B,C$ and the relations assert that each of \begin{gather*} A+\frac{qBC-q^{-1}CB}{q^2-q^{-2}}, \qquad B+\frac{qCA-q^{-1}AC}{q^2-q^{-2}}, \qquad C+\frac{qAB-q^{-1}BA}{q^2-q^{-2}} \qquad \end{gather*} commutes with $A,B,C$. We show that every finite-dimensional irreducible $\triangle_q$-module is o…
Around 1992 A. Zhedanov introduced the Askey-Wilson algebra AW(3). Recently we introduced a central extension $Δ$ of AW(3) called the universal Askey-Wilson algebra. In this paper we discuss a connection between $Δ$ and the quantum algebra $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$. Our main result is an algebra injection from $Δ$ into a relative of $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$; the relative is obtained from $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$ by adjoining three mutually commuting indeterminates. We describe the injection using the equitable presentation of $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$
Recently Pascal Baseilhac and Stefan Kolb obtained a PBW basis for the $q$-Onsager algebra $\mathcal O_q$. They defined the PBW basis elements recursively, and it is obscure how to express them in closed form. To mitigate the difficulty, we bring in the universal Askey-Wilson algebra $Δ_q$. There is a natural algebra homomorphism $\natural \colon \mathcal O_q \to Δ_q$. We apply $\natural $ to the above PBW basis, and express the images in closed form. Our results make heavy use of the Chebyshev polynomials of the second kind.
We study the tensor product of principal unitary representations of the quantum Lorentz group, prove a decomposition theorem and compute the associated intertwiners. We show that these intertwiners can be expressed in terms of complex continuations of 6j symbols of U_q(su(2)). These intertwiners are expressed in terms of q-Racah polynomials and Askey-Wilson polynomials. The orthogonality of these intertwiners imply some relation mixing these two families of polynomials. The simplest of these relations is the orthogonality of Askey-Wilson polynomials.
An algebra is introduced which can be considered as a rank 2 extension of the Askey-Wilson algebra. Relations in this algebra are motivated by relations between coproducts of twisted primitive elements in the two-fold tensor product of the quantum algebra $\mathcal{U}_{q}(\mathfrak{sl}(2,\mathbb C))$. It is shown that bivariate $q$-Racah polynomials appear as overlap coefficients of eigenvectors of generators of the algebra. Furthermore, the corresponding $q$-difference operators are calculated using the defining relations of the algebra, showing that it encodes the bispectral properties of th…
A new trigonometric degeneration of the Sklyanin algebra is found and the functional realization of its representations in space of polynomials in one variable is studied. A further contraction gives the standard quantum algebra $U_{q}(sl(2))$. It is shown that the degenerate Sklyanin algebra contains a subalgebra isomorphic to algebra of functions on the quantum sphere $(SU(2)/SO(2))_{q^{1\over2}}$. The diagonalization of general quadratic form in its generators leads in the functional realization to the difference equation for Askey-Wilson polynomials.
Let $V$ denote a vector space with finite positive dimension, and let $(A,B)$ denote a Leonard pair on $V$. As is known, the linear transformations $A,B$ satisfy the Askey-Wilson relations A^2B -bABA +BA^2 -g(AB+BA) -rB = hA^2 +wA +eI, B^2A -bBAB +AB^2 -h(AB+BA) -sA = gB^2 +wB +fI, for some scalars $b,g,h,r,s,w,e,f$. The scalar sequence is unique if the dimension of $V$ is at least 4. If $c,c*,t,t*$ are scalars and $t,t*$ are not zero, then $(tA+c,t*B+c*)$ is a Leonard pair on $V$ as well. These affine transformations can be used to bring the Leonard pair or its Askey-Wilson relations into a c…
The Askey--Wilson algebras were used to interpret the algebraic structure hidden in the Racah--Wigner coefficients of the quantum algebra $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$. In this paper, we display an injection of a universal analog $\triangle_q$ of Askey--Wilson algebras into $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)\otimes U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)\otimes U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$ behind the application. Moreover we formulate the decomposition rules for $3$-fold tensor products of irreducible Verma $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$-modules and of finite-dimensional irreducible $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$-modules into the direct sums of finite-di…
The $sl_N$-Onsager algebra has been introduced by Uglov and Ivanov in 1995. In this letter, a FRT presentation of the $sl_N$-Onsager algebra is given, its current algebra and commutative subalgebra are constructed. Certain quotients of the $sl_N$-Onsager algebra are then considered, which produce `classical' analogs of higher rank extensions of the Askey-Wilson algebra. As examples, the cases $N=3$ and $N=4$ are described in details.
The Askey-Wilson algebra is realized in terms of the elements of the quantum algebras $U_q(\mathfrak{su}(2))$ or $U_q(\mathfrak{su}(1,1))$. A new realization of the Racah algebra in terms of the Lie algebras $\mathfrak{su}(2)$ or $\mathfrak{su}(1,1)$ is given also. Details for different specializations are provided. The advantage of these new realizations is that one generator of the Askey-Wilson (or Racah) algebra becomes diagonal in the usual representation of the quantum algebras whereas the second one is tridiagonal. This allows to recover easily the recurrence relations of the associated …
We present a one-parameter family of constant solutions of the reflection equation and define a family of quantum complex Grassmannians endowed with a transitive action of the quantum unitary group. By computing the radial part of a suitable Casimir operator, we identify the zonal spherical functions (i.e. infinitesimally bi-invariant matrix coefficients of finite-dimensional irreducible representations) as multivariable Askey-Wilson polynomials containing two continuous and two discrete parameters.
We study some properties of the Askey-Wilson polynomials (AWP) when q is a primitive N-th root of unity. For general four-parameter AWP, zeros of the N-th polynomial and the orthogonality measure are found explicitly. Special subclasses of the AWP, e.g., the continuous q-Jacobi and big q-Jacobi polynomials, are considered in detail. A set of discrete weight functions positive on a real interval is described. Some new trigonometric identities related to the AWP are obtained. Normalization conditions of some polynomials are expressed in terms of the Gauss sums.
In this paper we describe two pairs of raising/lowering operators for Askey-Wilson polynomials, which result from constructions involving very different techniques. The first technique is quite elementary, and depends only on the ''classical'' properties of these polynomials, viz. the q-difference equation and the three term recurrence. The second technique is less elementary, and involves the one-variable version of the double affine Hecke algebra.
A novel generalization of the Askey-Wilson algebra is presented and shown to be associated with coproducts in the quantum algebra $U_q(su(1,1))$. This algebra has 15 non-commuting generators given by $Q^{(A)}$, with $A\subset \{1,2,3,4\}$ and their 5 linearly independent inversions generated by the algebra automorphism $q\rightarrow q^{-1}$, $E\leftrightarrow F.$ The set of generators can be split into operators fixed under inversion, and those with an orientation under this inversion. We then show that the generators will either commute or satisfy q-commutator relations linear in the generato…
The occurrence of the Askey-Wilson (AW) algebra in the $SU(2)$ Chern-Simons (CS) theory and in the Reshetikhin-Turaev (RT) link invariant construction with quantum algebra $U_q(\mathfrak{su}_2)$ is explored. Tangle diagrams with three strands with some of them enclosed in a spin-$1/2$ closed loop are associated to the generators of the AW algebra. It is shown in both the CS theory and RT construction that the link invariant of these tangles obey the relations of the AW generators. It follows that the expectation values of certain Wilson loops in the CS theory satisfy relations dictated by the …
The Askey-Wilson polynomials are orthogonal polynomials in $x = \cos θ$, which are given as a terminating $_4ϕ_3$ basic hypergeometric series. The non-symmetric Askey-Wilson polynomials are Laurent polynomials in $z=e^{iθ}$, which are given as a sum of two terminating $_4ϕ_3$'s. They satisfy a biorthogonality relation. In this paper new orthogonality relations for single $_4ϕ_3$'s which are Laurent polynomials in $z$ are given, which imply the non-symmetric Askey-Wilson biorthogonality. These results include discrete orthogonality relations. They can be considered as a classical analytic study…
A description of the embedding of the universal Askey--Wilson algebra, AW(3), in $U_q(sl_2)^{\otimes 3}$ is given in terms of the universal R-matrix of $U_q(sl_2)$. The generators of the centralizer of $U_q(sl_2)$ in its three-fold product are naturally expressed through conjugations of Casimir elements with R. They are identified as the images of the generators of AW(3) under the embedding map by showing that they obey the AW(3) relations. This is achieved by introducing a natural coaction also constructed with the help of the R-matrix.
The main goal is to interpret the Askey-Wilson function and the corresponding transform pair on the quantum SU(1,1) group. A weight on the C^*-algebra of continuous functions vanishing at infinity on the quantum SU(1,1) group is studied, which is left and right invariant in a weak sense with respect to a product defined using Wall functions. The Haar weight restricted to certain subalgebras are explicitly determined in terms of an infinitely supported Jackson integral and in terms of an infinitely supported Askey-Wilson type measure. For the evaluation the spectral analysis of explicit unbound…
The irreducible $*$-representations of the Lie algebra $su(1,1)$ consist of discrete series representations, principal unitary series and complementary series. We calculate Racah coefficients for tensor product representations that consist of at least two discrete series representations. We use the explicit expressions for the Clebsch-Gordan coefficients as hypergeometric functions to find explicit expressions for the Racah coefficients. The Racah coefficients are Wilson polynomials and Wilson functions. This leads to natural interpretations of the Wilson function transforms. As an application…
The $q$-deformed Bannai-Ito algebra was recently constructed in the threefold tensor product of the quantum superalgebra $\mathfrak{osp}_q(1\vert 2)$. It turned out to be isomorphic to the Askey-Wilson algebra. In the present paper these results will be extended to higher rank. The rank $n-2$ $q$-Bannai-Ito algebra $\mathcal{A}_n^q$, which by the established isomorphism also yields a higher rank version of the Askey-Wilson algebra, is constructed in the $n$-fold tensor product of $\mathfrak{osp}_q(1\vert 2)$. An explicit realization in terms of $q$-shift operators and reflections is proposed, …
Let $\C$ denote the field of complex numbers, and fix a nonzero $q \in \C$ such that $q^4 \ne 1$. Define a $\C$-algebra $Δ_q$ by generators and relations in the following way. The generators are $A,B,C$. The relations assert that each of $A+\frac{qBC-q^{-1}CB}{q^2-q^{-2}}$, $B+\frac{qCA-q^{-1}AC}{q^2-q^{-2}}$, $C+\frac{qAB-q^{-1}BA}{q^2-q^{-2}}$ is central in $Δ_q$. The algebra $Δ_q$ is called the universal Askey-Wilson algebra. Let $Γ$ denote a distance-regular graph that has $q$-Racah type. Fix a vertex $x$ of $Γ$ and let $T=T(x)$ denote the corresponding subconstituent algebra. In this pape…
We consider the double affine Hecke algebra $H=H(k_0,k_1,k^\vee_0,k^\vee_1;q)$ associated with the root system $(C^\vee_1,C_1)$. We display three elements $x$, $y$, $z$ in $H$ that satisfy essentially the $Z_3$-symmetric Askey-Wilson relations. We obtain the relations as follows. We work with an algebra $\hat H$ that is more general than $H$, called the universal double affine Hecke algebra of type $(C_1^\vee,C_1)$. An advantage of $\hat H$ over $H$ is that it is parameter free and has a larger automorphism group. We give a surjective algebra homomorphism ${\hat H} \to H$. We define some eleme…
Let K denote a field and let $V$ denote a vector space over K with finite positive dimension. We consider an ordered pair of linear transformations $A:V\to V$ and $A^*:V\to V$ which satisfy the following two properties: (i) There exists a basis for $V$ with respect to which the matrix representing $A$ is irreducible tridiagonal and the matrix representing $A^*$ is diagonal. (ii) There exists a basis for $V$ with respect to which the matrix representing $A^*$ is irreducible tridiagonal and the matrix representing $A$ is diagonal. We call such a pair a Leonard pair on $V$. Referring to the above…
Assume that $\mathbb F$ is an algebraically closed field and let $q$ denote a nonzero scalar in $\mathbb F$ that is not a root of unity. The universal Askey--Wilson algebra $\triangle_q$ is a unital associative $\mathbb F$-algebra defined by generators and relations. The generators are $A,B, C$ and the relations state that each of $$ A+\frac{q BC-q^{-1} CB}{q^2-q^{-2}}, \qquad B+\frac{q CA-q^{-1} AC}{q^2-q^{-2}}, \qquad C+\frac{q AB-q^{-1} BA}{q^2-q^{-2}} $$ is central in $\triangle_q$. The universal DAHA (double affine Hecke algebra) $\mathfrak H_q$ of type $(C_1^\vee,C_1)$ is a unital associ…
Let $\mathbb F$ denote a field, and fix a nonzero $q\in\mathbb F$ such that $q^4\not=1$. The universal Askey-Wilson algebra $Δ_q$ is the associative $\mathbb F$-algebra defined by generators and relations in the following way. The generators are $A$, $B$, $C$. The relations assert that each of $A+\frac{qBC-q^{-1}CB}{q^2-q^{-2}}$, $B+\frac{qCA-q^{-1}AC}{q^2-q^{-2}}$, $C+\frac{qAB-q^{-1}BA}{q^2-q^{-2}}$ is central in $Δ_q$. The universal DAHA $\hat H_q$ of type $(C_1^\vee,C_1)$ is the associative $\mathbb F$-algebra defined by generators $\lbrace t^{\pm1}_i\rbrace_{i=0}^3$ and relations (i) $t_i…
The five parameter family of multivariable Askey-Wilson polynomials is studied with four parameters generically complex. The multivariable Askey-Wilson polynomials form an orthogonal system with respect to an explicit (in general complex) measure. A partially discrete orthogonality measure is obtained by shifting the contour to the torus while picking up residues. A parameter domain is given for which the partially discrete orthogonality measure is positive. The orthogonality relations and norm evaluations for multivariable q-Racah polynomials and multivariable big and little q-Jacobi polynomi…
The Askey-Wilson algebra $AW(3)$ with three generators is shown to serve as a hidden symmetry algebra underlying the Racah and (new) generalized Clebsch-Gordan problems for the quantum algebra $sl_q(2)$. On the base of this hidden symmetry a simple method to calculate corresponding coefficients in terms of the Askey-Wilson polynomials is proposed.
Dynamical quantum groups were recently introduced by Etingof and Varchenko as an algebraic framework for studying the dynamical Yang-Baxter equation, which is precisely the Yang-Baxter equation satisfied by 6j-symbols. We investigate one of the simplest examples, generalizing the standard SU(2) quantum group. The matrix elements for its corepresentations are identified with Askey-Wilson polynomials, and the Haar measure with the Askey-Wilson measure. The discrete orthogonality of the matrix elements yield the orthogonality of q-Racah polynomials (or quantum 6j-symbols). The Clebsch-Gordan coef…
Zhedanov's algebra AW(3) is considered with explicit structure constants such that, in the basic representation, the first generator becomes the second order q-difference operator for the Askey-Wilson polynomials. It is proved that this representation is faithful for a certain quotient of AW(3) such that the Casimir operator is equal to a special constant. Some explicit aspects of the double affine Hecke algebra (DAHA) related to symmetric and non-symmetric Askey-Wilson polynomials are presented and proved without requiring knowledge of general DAHA theory. Finally a central extension of this …
The spaces of invariants and the zonal spherical functions associated with quantum super 2-shpheres defined by $\Bbb{C}_{q}(osp(1,2))$ are discussed. Connection between the zonal spherical functions and orthogonal $q$-polynomials from the Askey-Wilson scheme is investigated.
The interpretation of the Meixner-Pollaczek, Meixner and Laguerre polynomials as overlap coefficients in the positive discrete series representations of the Lie algebra su(1,1) and the Clebsch-Gordan decomposition leads to generalisations of the convolution identities for these polynomials. Using the Racah coefficients convolution identities for continuous Hahn, Hahn and Jacobi polynomials are obtained. From the quantised universal enveloping algebra for su(1,1) convolution identities for the Al-Salam and Chihara polynomials and the Askey-Wilson polynomials are derived by using the Clebsch-Gor…
