Let $K_{m}=\Bbb{Q}(ζ_{m})$ where $ζ_{m}$ is a primitive $m$th root of unity. Let $p>2$ be prime and let $C_{p}$ denote the group of order $p.$ The ring of algebraic integers of $K_{m}$ is $\Cal{O}_{m}=\Bbb{Z}[ζ_{m}].$ Let $Λ_{m,p}$ denote the order $\Cal{O}_{m}[C_{p}]$ in the algebra $K_{m}[C_{p}].$ Consider the kernel group $D(Λ_{m,p})$ and the Swan subgroup $T(Λ_{m,p}).$ If $(p,m)=1$ these two subgroups of the class group coincide. Restricting to when there is a rational prime $p$ that is prime in $\Cal{O}_{m}$ requires $m=4$ or $q^{n}$ where $q>2$ is prime. For each such $m$, $3 \leq m \leq 100,$ we give such a prime, and show that one may compute $T(Λ_{m,p})$ as a quotient of the group of units of a finite field. When $h_{mp}^{+}=1$ we give exact values for $|T(Λ_{m,p})|$, and for other cases we provide an upper bound. We explore the Galois module theoretic implications of these results.
Primitive prime divisors play an important role in group theory and number theory. We study a certain number theoretic quantity, called $Φ^*_n(q)$, which is closely related to the cyclotomic polynomial $Φ_n(x)$ and to primitive prime divisors of $q^n-1$. Our definition of $Φ^*_n(q)$ is novel, and we prove it is equivalent to the definition given by Hering. Given positive constants $c$ and $k$, we give an algorithm for determining all pairs $(n,q)$ with $Φ^*_n(q)\le cn^k$. This algorithm is used to extend (and correct) a result of Hering which is useful for classifying certain families of subgr…
A primitive completely normal element for an extension $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}/\mathbb{F}_{q}$ of Galois fields is a generator of the multiplicative group of $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}$, which simultaneously is normal over every intermediate field of that extension. We are going to prove that such a generator exists when $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}/\mathbb{F}_{q}$ is an 'exceptional' regular extension. In combination with [6] our investigations altogether settle the existence of primitive completely normal bases for any regular extension. An important feature of the class of regular extensions is that they comprise ev…
We introduce the notion of finite multiple harmonic q-series at a primitive root of unity and show that these specialize to the finite multiple zeta value (FMZV) and the symmetrized multiple zeta value (SMZV) through an algebraic and analytic operation, respectively. Further, we obtain families of linear relations among these series which induce linear relations among FMZVs and SMZVs of the same form. This gives evidence towards a conjecture of Kaneko and Zagier relating FMZVs and SMZVs. Motivated by the above results, we define cyclotomic analogues of FMZVs, which conjecturally generate a vec…
In this essay, we see how prime cyclotomic fields (cyclotomic fields obtained by adjoining a primitive p-th root of unity to Q, where p is an odd prime) can lead to elegant proofs of number theoretical concepts. We namely develop the notion of primary units in a cyclotomic field, demonstrate their equivalence to real units in this case, and show how this leads to a proof of a special case of Fermat's Last Theorem. We finally modernize Dirichlet's solution to Pell's Equation.
Let z be a primitive fifth root of unity and let F be the cyclotomic field F=Q(z). Let O be the ring of integers. We compute the Voronoi polyhedron of binary Hermitian forms over F and classify GL_2(O)-conjugacy classes of perfect forms. The combinatorial data of this polyhedron can be used to compute the cohomology of the arithmetic group GL_2(O) and Hecke eigen forms.
Let $n$ be an even positive integer with at most three distinct prime factors and let $\ze_n$ be a primitive $n$-th root of unity. In this study, we made an attempt to find the lowest-degree $0,1$-polynomial $f(x) \in \Q[x]$ having at least three terms such that $f(\ze_n)$ is a minimal vanishing sum of the $n$-th roots of unity.
Let $φ_p(z)=(z-1)^p+2-ζ_p$, where $ζ_p\in\bar{\mathbb{Q}}$ is a primitive $p$-th root of unity for some odd prime $p$. Building on previous work, we show that the $n$-th iterate $φ_p^n(z)$ has Galois group $[C_p]^n$, an iterated wreath product of cyclic groups, whenever $p$ is not a Wieferich prime.
Let $ζ_k$ be a $k$-th primitive root of unity, $m\geqϕ(k)+1$ an integer and $Φ_k(X)\in\mathbb Z [X]$ the $k$-th cyclotomic polynomial. In this paper we show that the pair $(-m+ζ_k,\mathcal N)$ is a canonical number system, with $\mathcal N=\{0,1,\dots,|Φ_k(m)|\}$. Moreover we also discuss whether the two bases $-m+ζ_k$ and $-n+ζ_k$ are multiplicatively independent for positive integers $m$ and $n$ and $k$ fixed.
The $n^{th}$ cyclotomic polynomial $Φ_n(x)$ is the minimal polynomial of an $n^{th}$ primitive root of unity. Hence $Φ_n(x)$ is trivially zero at primitive $n^{th}$ roots of unity. Using finite Fourier analysis we derive a formula for $Φ_n(x)$ at the other roots of unity. This allows one to explicitly evaluate $Φ_n(e^{2πi/m})$ with $m\in \{3,4,5,6,8,10,12\}$. We use this evaluation with $m=5$ to give a simple reproof of a result of Vaughan (1975) on the maximum coefficient (in absolute value) of $Φ_n(x)$. We also obtain a formula for $Φ_n'(e^{2πi/m}) / Φ_n(e^{2πi/m})$ with $n \ne m$, which is …
The Ramanujan sum c_n(k) and a_n(k), the kth coefficient of the nth cyclotomic polynomial, are completely symmetric expressions in terms of primitive nth roots of unity. For fixed k we study the value distribution of c_n(k) (following A. Wintner) and a_n(k) (partly following H. Moller). In particular we disprove a 1970 conjecture of H. Moller on the average (over n) of a_n(k). We show that certain symmetric functions in primitive roots considered by the Dence brothers are related to the behaviour of c_{p-1}(k) and a_{p-1}(k) as p ranges over the primes and study their value distribution as wel…
Let $Ψ_n(x)$ be the monic polynomial having precisely all non-primitive $n$th roots of unity as its simple zeros. One has $Ψ_n(x)=(x^n-1)/Φ_n(x)$, with $Φ_n(x)$ the $n$th cyclotomic polynomial. The coefficients of $Ψ_n(x)$ are integers that like the coefficients of $Φ_n(x)$ tend to be surprisingly small in absolute value, e.g. for $n<561$ all coefficients of $Ψ_n(x)$ are $\le 1$ in absolute value. We establish various properties of the coefficients of $Ψ_n(x)$.
Let $\ell$ and $p$ be odd primes. For a positive integer $μ$ let $k_μ$ be the ray class field of $k=\mathbb{Q}(e^{2πi/\ell})$ modulo $2p^μ$. We present certain class fields $K_μ$ of $k$ such that $k_μ\leq K_μ\leq k_{μ+1}$, and find the degree of $K_μ/k_μ$ explicitly. And we also construct, in the sense of Hilbert, primitive generators of the field $K_μ$ over $k_μ$ by using Shimura's reciprocity law and special values of theta constants.
We discuss how one could study asymptotics of cyclotomic quantities via the mean values of certain multiplicative functions and their Dirichlet series using a theorem of Delange. We show how this could provide a new approach to Artin's conjecture on primitive roots. We focus on whether a fixed prime has a certain order modulo infinitely many other primes. We also give an estimate for the mean value of one such Dirichlet series.
We study the set $\mathscr C$ of mean square values of the moduli of the conjugates of cyclotomic integers $β$. For its $k$th derived set $\mathscr C^{(k)}$, we show that $\mathscr C^{(k)}=(k+1)\mathscr C\,\, (k\ge 0)$, so that also ${\mathscr C}^{(k)}+{\mathscr C}^{(\ell)}={\mathscr C}^{(k+\ell+1)}\,\,(k,\ell\ge 0)$. We also calculate the order type of $\mathscr C$, and show that it is the same as that of the set of PV numbers. Furthermore, we describe precisely the restricted set $\mathscr C_p$ where the $β$ are confined to the ring $\mathbb Z[ω_p]$, where $p$ is an odd prime and $ω_p$ is a …
E. Artin conjectured that any integer $a >1$ which is not a perfect square is a primitive root modulo $p$ for infinitely many primes $p.$ Let $f_a(p)$ be the multiplicative order of the non-square integer $a$ modulo the prime $p.$ M. R. Murty and S. Srinivasan [10] showed that if $\sum_{p<x} \frac 1 {f_a(p)}= O(x^{1/4})$ then Artin's conjecture is true for $a.$ We relate the Murty-Srinivasan condition to sums involving the cyclotomic periods from the subfields of $\mathbb Q(e^{2πi/p})$ corresponding to the subgroups $<a> \subseteq \mathbb F*_p.$
The coordination sequence of a lattice $Ł$ encodes the word-length function with respect to $M$, a set that generates $Ł$ as a monoid. We investigate the coordination sequence of the cyclotomic lattice $Ł= \Z[ζ_m]$, where $ζ_m$ is a primitive $mþ$ root of unity and where $M$ is the set of all $mþ$ roots of unity. We prove several conjectures by Parker regarding the structure of the rational generating function of the coordination sequence; this structure depends on the prime factorization of $m$. Our methods are based on unimodular triangulations of the $mþ$ cyclotomic polytope, the convex hul…
Unit group computations are a cryptographic primitive for which one has a fast quantum algorithm, but the required number of qubits is $\tilde O(m^5)$. In this work we propose a modification of the algorithm for which the number of qubits is $\tilde O(m^2)$ in the case of cyclotomic fields. Moreover, under a recent conjecture on the size of the class group of $\mathbb{Q}(ζ_m + ζ_m^{-1})$, the quantum algorithms is much simpler because it is a hidden subgroup problem (HSP) algorithm rather than its error estimation counterpart: continuous hidden subgroup problem (CHSP). We also discuss the (min…
Profinite groups with a cyclotomic $p$-orientation are introduced and studied. The special interest in this class of groups arises from the fact that any absolute Galois group $G_{K}$ of a field $K$ is indeed a profinite group with a cyclotomic $p$-orientation $θ_{K,p}\colon G_{K}\to\mathbb{Z}_p^\times$ which is even Bloch-Kato. The same is true for its maximal pro-$p$ quotient $G_{K}(p)$ provided the field $K$ contains a primitive $p^{th}$-root of unity. The class of cyclotomically $p$-oriented profinite groups (resp. pro-$p$ groups) which are Bloch-Kato is closed with respect to inverse limi…
Let $ζ_q$ be a primitive $q^{\text{th}}$ root of unity with $q$ an arbitrary odd prime. The ratio of Kummer's first factor of the class number of the cyclotomic number field $\mathbb{Q}(ζ_q)$ and its expected order of magnitude (a simple function of $q$) is called the Kummer ratio and denoted by $r(q)$. It is known that typically $r(q)$ is close to 1, but nevertheless it is believed that it is unbounded, but only large on a very thin sequence of primes $q$. We propose an algorithm to compute $r(q)$ requiring the evaluation of $O(q\log q)$ products and $O(q)$ logarithms. Using it we obtain a ne…
This article deals with a conjecture generalizing the second case of Fermat's Last Theorem, called $SFLT2$ conjecture: {\it Let $p>3$ be a prime, $K:=\Q(ζ)$ the $p$th cyclotomic field and $\Z_K$ its ring of integers. The diophantine equation $(u+vζ)\Z_K=\mk w_1^p$, with $u,v\in\Z\backslash\{0\}$ coprime, $uv\equiv 0 \bmod p$ and $\mk w_1$ ideal of $\Z_K$, has no solution.} Assuming that $SFLT2$ fails for $(p,u,v)$, let $q$ be an odd prime not dividing $uv$, $n$ the order of $\frac{v}{u}\bmod q$, $ξ$ a primitive $n$th root of unity and $M:=\Q(ξ,ζ)$. The aim of this complement of the article [GQ…
Let p be an odd prime. Let K = \Q(zeta) be the p-cyclotomic number field. Let v be a primitive root mod p and sigma : zeta --> zeta^v be a \Q-isomorphism of the extension K/\Q generating the Galois group G of K/\Q. For n in Z, the notation v^n is understood by v^n mod p with 1 \leq v^n \leq p-1. Let P(X) = \sum_{i=0}^{p-2} v^{-i}X^i \in \Z[X] be the Stickelberger polynomial. P(sigma) annihilates the class group C of K. There exists a polynomial Q(X) \in \Z[X] such that P(sigma)(sigma-v) = p\times Q(sigma) and such that Q(sigma) annihilates the p-class group C_p of K (the subgroup of exponent p…
The $n^{th}$ cyclotomic polynomial $Φ_n(x)$ is the minimal polynomial of an $n^{th}$ primitive root of unity. Its coefficients are the subject of intensive study and some formulas are known for them. Here we are interested in formulas which are valid for all natural numbers $n$. In these a host of famous number theoretical objects such as Bernoulli numbers, Stirling numbers of both kinds and Ramanujan sums make their appearance, sometimes even at the same time! In this paper we present a survey of these formulas which until now were scattered in the literature and introduce an unified approach…
Let $π$ be a cuspidal automorphic representation of $\operatorname{GL}_2$ over a totally real number field $F$. Let $K$ be a totally imaginary quadratic extension of $F$. We estimate central values of the $\operatorname{GL}_2 \times \operatorname{GL}_2$ Rankin-Selberg $L$-functions associated to $π$ times representations induced from Hecke characters of $K$ which are ramified only at a given prime ideal $\mathfrak{p}$ of $F$. More specifically, we use spectral decompositions of shifted convolution sums and relations to Fourier-Whittaker coefficients of genuine and non-genuine metaplectic forms…
For each odd prime $p$, let $ζ_p$ denote a primitive $p$-th root of unity. In this paper, we study the determinants of some matrices with cyclotomic unit entries. For instance, we show that when $p\equiv 3\pmod4$ and $p>3$ the determinant of the matrix $\(\frac{1-ζ_p^{j^2k^2}}{1-ζ_p^{j^2}}\)_{1\le j,k\le (p-1)/2}$ can be written as $(-1)^{\frac{h(-p)+1}{2}}(a_p+b_pi\sqrt{p})$ with $a_p,b_p\in\frac12\Z$ and $$\begin{cases}ν_p(a_p)=ν_p(b_p)=\frac{p-3}{8}&\mbox{if}\ p\equiv 3\pmod8, \\ν_p(a_p)=ν_p(b_p)+1=\frac{p+1}{8}&\mbox{if}\ p\equiv 7\pmod8,\end{cases}$$ where $ν_p(x)$ denotes the $p$-adic or…
Let $q = p^s$ be a power of a prime number $p$ and let $\mathbb{F}_q$ be the finite field with $q$ elements. In this paper we obtain the explicit factorization of the cyclotomic polynomial $Φ_{2^nr}$ over $\mathbb{F}_q$ where both $r \geq 3$ and $q$ are odd, $\gcd(q,r) = 1$, and $n\in \mathbb{N}$. Previously, only the special cases when $r = 1,\ 3,\ 5$ had been achieved. For this we make the assumption that the explicit factorization of $Φ_r$ over $\mathbb{F}_q$ is given to us as a known. Let $n = p_1^{e_1}p_2^{e_2}... p_s^{e_s}$ be the factorization of $n \in \mathbb{N}$ into powers of distin…
A well known result of Iwaniec and Sarnak states that for at least one third of the primitive Dirichlet characters to a large modulus q, the associated L-functions do not vanish at the central point. When q is a large power of a fixed prime, we prove the same proportion already among the primitive characters of any given order. The set of primitive characters modulo q of a given order can be described as an orbit under the action of the Galois group of the corresponding cyclotomic field. We also prove a positive proportion of nonvanishing within substantially shorter orbits generated by interm…
For an odd prime p and a number field F containing a primitive p-th root of unity, we describe the Kummer radical A_F of the first layers of all the Z_p-extensions of F in terms of universal norms of p-units along the cyclotomic tower of F . We also study "twisted" radicals related to AF .
Let $Λ$ (isomorphic to $\mathbb{Z}_p[[T]]$) denote the usual Iwasawa algebra and $G$ denote the Galois group of a finite Galois extension $L/K$ of totally real fields. When the non-primitive Iwasawa module over the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension has a free resolution of length one over the group ring $Λ[G]$, we prove that the validity of the non-commutative Iwasawa main conjecture allows us to find a representative for the non-primitive $p$-adic $L$-function (which is an element of a $K_1$-group) in a maximal $Λ$-order. This integrality result involves a careful study of the Dieudonné det…
We classify the dessins $\mathcal D$ for which the automorphism group $G$ acts primitively and faithfully on the points over one of the three critical values (without loss of generality the black vertices in the usual bipartite map representation). We show that they are all generalised Paley dessins, in which the black vertices are the elements of a finite field ${\mathbb F}_q$, and $G$ is a subgroup of the affine group ${\rm AGL}_1(q)$. Using earlier results obtained with Streit and Wolfart, we determine the orbits of the absolute Galois group on these dessins, we show that they are all defin…
We introduce a new algorithm, which is faster and requires less computing resources than the ones previously known, to compute the Euler-Kronecker constants $\mathfrak{G}_q$ for the prime cyclotomic fields $\mathbb{Q}(ζ_q)$, where $q$ is an odd prime and $ζ_q$ is a primitive $q$-root of unity. With such a new algorithm we evaluated $\mathfrak{G}_q$ and $\mathfrak{G}_q^+$, where $\mathfrak{G}_q^+$ is the Euler-Kronecker constant of the maximal real subfield of $\mathbb{Q}(ζ_q)$, for some very large primes $q$ thus obtaining two new negative values of $\mathfrak{G}_q$: $\mathfrak{G}_{9109334831}…
We define a new congruence relation on the set of integers, leading to a group similar to the multiplicative group of integers modulo $n$. It makes use of a symmetry almost omnipresent in modular multiplications and halves the number of residue classes. Using it, we are able to give an elegant description of some results due to Carl Schick, others are reduced to well-known theorems from algebra and number theory. Many concepts from number theory such as quadratic residues and primitive roots are equally applicable. It brings noticeable advantages in studying powers of odd primes, and in partic…
Let $k \,=\, \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt[5]{n},ζ_5)$, where $n$ is a positive integer, $5^{th}$ power-free, whose $5-$class group is isomorphic to $\mathbb{Z}/5\mathbb{Z}\times\mathbb{Z}/5\mathbb{Z}$. Let $k_0\,=\,\mathbb{Q}(ζ_5)$ be the cyclotomic field containing a primitive $5^{th}$ root of unity $ζ_5$. Let $C_{k,5}^{(σ)}$ the group of the ambiguous classes under the action of $Gal(k/k_0)$ = $<σ>$. The aim of this paper is to determine all integers $n$ such that the group of ambiguous classes $C_{k,5}^{(σ)}$ has rank $1$ or $2$.
Let $Γ\,=\, \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt[5]{n})$ be a pure quintic field, where $n$ is a positive integer, $5^{th}$ power-free. Let $k_0\,=\,\mathbb{Q}(ζ_5)$ be the cyclotomic field containing a primitive $5^{th}$ root of unity $ζ_5$, and $k\,=\,Γ(ζ_5)$ be the normal closure of $Γ$. Let $C_{k,5}$ be the $5$-component of the class group of k. The purpose of this paper is to determine generators of $C_{k,5}$, whenever it is of type $(5,5)$ and the rank of the group of ambiguous classes under the action of $Gal(k/k_0)\, =\,\langle σ\rangle$ is $1$.
In 1977 Kervaire and Murthy presented three conjectures regarding $K_0 \mathbb{Z} C_{p^n}$, where $C_{p^n}$ is the cyclic group of order $p^n$ and $p$ is a semi-regular prime. The Mayer-Vietoris exact sequence provides the following short exact sequence $$0\to V_n\to \pic (\mathbb{Z} C_{p^n})\to \cl \mathbb{Q} (ζ_{n-1})\times \pic (\mathbb{Z} C_{p^{n-1}})\to 0$$ where $ζ_{n-1}$ is a primitive $p^n$-th root of unity. The group $V_n$ that injects into $\pic \mathbb{Z} C_{p^n}\cong\tilde{K}_0\mathbb{Z} C_{p^n}$, is a canonical quotient of an in some sense simpler group $\mathcal{V}_n$. Both group…
This article deals with a conjecture, introduced in [GQ] (hereinafter $SFLT2$), which generalizes the second case of Fermat's Last Theorem: {\it Let $p>3$ be a prime. The diophantine equation $\frac{u^p+v^p}{u+v}=w_1^p$ with $u,v,u+v, w_1\in\Z\backslash\{0\}$, $u,v$ coprime and $v\equiv 0 \mod p$ has no solution.} Let $ζ$ be a $p$th primitive root of unity and $K:=\Q(ζ)$. A prime $q$ is said {\it $p$-principal} if the class of any prime ideal $\mathfrak q_K$ of $K$ over $q$ is a $p$-power of a class. Assume that $SFLT2$ fails for $(p,u,v)$. Let $q$ be any odd prime coprime with $puv$, $f$ the …
Let p be an odd prime. Let F_p^* be the no-null part of the finite field of p elements. Let K=\Q(zeta) be a p-cyclotomic field and O_K be its ring of integers. Let pi be the prime ideal of K lying over p. Let sigma : zeta --> zeta^v be the Q-isomorphism of K for a primitive root v mod p. The subgroup of exponent p of the class group of K can be seen as a direct sum oplus_{i=1}^r Gamma_i of groups of order p where the group Gamma_i is annihilated by a polynomial sigma-mu_i with mu_i \in F_p^*. Let Gamma be one of the Gamma_i. From Kummer, there exist prime non-principal prime ideals Q of inerti…

Preprint of a paper to appear in "Communications in Advanced Mathematical Sciences". Let K be a real abelian extension of Q. Let p be a prime number, S the set of p-places of K and G\_K,S the Galois group of the maximal S-ramified pro-p-extension of K (i.e., unramified outside p and infinity). We revisit the problem of annihilation of the p-torsion group T\_K:=tor\_Z\_p(G\_K,S^ab) initiated by us and Oriat then systematized in our paper on the construction of p-adic L-functions in which we obtained a canonical ideal annihilator of T\_K in full generality (1978--1981). Afterwards (1992--2014) s…
Let p be an odd prime. Let K_p = \Q(zeta_p) be the p-cyclotomic field. We apply a Kummer and Stickelberger relation of K_p to some singular not primary numbers A of K_p connected to p-class group of K_p and prove they verify the congruence A = 1 mod p^2. Let v be a primitive root mod p. This p-adic improvement on singular numbers A allows us to connect in a straightforward way the p-class group C_p to the solutions of some explicit congruence mod p: \sum_{i=1}^{p-2} X^{i-1} \times (\frac{v^{-(i-1)}-v^{-i}\times v}{p}) \equiv 0 mod p: where X is a natural integer and where v^n is understood as …
We extend many results on Selmer groups for elliptic curves and modular forms to the non-ordinary setting. More precisely, we study the signed Selmer groups defined using the machinery of Wach modules over $\mathbf{Z}_p$-cyclotomic extensions. First, we provide a definition of residual and non-primitive Selmer groups at non-ordinary primes. This allows us to extend techniques developed by Greenberg (for $p$-ordinary elliptic curves) and Kim ($p$-supersingular elliptic curves) to show that if two $p$-non-ordinary modular forms are congruent to each other, then the Iwasawa invariants of their si…
The notion of formal duality in finite Abelian groups appeared recently in relation to spherical designs, tight sphere packings, and energy minimizing configurations in Euclidean spaces. For finite cyclic groups it is conjectured that there are no primitive formally dual pairs besides the trivial one and the TITO configuration. This conjecture has been verified for cyclic groups of prime power order, as well as of square-free order. In this paper, we will confirm the conjecture for other classes of cyclic groups, namely almost all cyclic groups of order a product of two prime powers, with fini…

Let sigma be a Q-isomorphism of K_p. Let P(sigma) = sigma^{p-2}v^{-(p-2)}+ ... + sigma v^{-1} +1 in Z[G], where v^n is understood (mod p). We apply Stickelberger relation to odd prime numbers q different of p and to some singular integers A of K_p connected with the p-class group C_p of K_p and prove the pi-adic congruences: 1) pi^{2p-1} | A^{P(σ)} if q = 1 (mod p), 2) pi^{2p-1} || A^{P(σ)} if q = 1 (mod p) and p^{…
Let p be an odd prime. Let K = Q(zeta) be the p-cyclotomic field. Let v be any primitive root mod p. Let sigma be a Q-isomorphism of K. Let P(sigma) = sigma^{p-2}v^{-(p-2)}+ ... + sigma v^{-1} +1 \in Z[G] where 1 \leq v^n \leq p-1 is a notation mod p. We apply a Kummer and Stickelberger relation of K to some singular not primary numbers A of K connected to p-class group C_p of K and prove they verify the congruence A^P(sigma) = 1 mod p^2. This p-adic method on singular numbers A allows us to prove: in a straightforward way the connection between relative p-class group C_p^- and the solutions o…
This article, complement to the article [Que], deals with some generalizations of Futwängler's theorems for the second case of Fermat's Last Theorem (FLT2). Let $p$ be an odd prime, $ζ$ a $p$th primitive root of unity, $K:=\Q(ζ)$ and $C\ell_K$ the class group of $K$. A prime $q$ is said $p$-principal if the class $c\ell_K (\mk q_K)\in C\ell_K$ of any prime ideal $\mk q_K$ of $\Z_K$ over $q$ is the $p$th power of a class. Assume that FLT2 fails for $(p,x,y,z)$ where $x, y, z$ are mutually coprime integers, $p$ divides $y$ and $x^p+y^p+z^p=0$. Let $q$ be a prime dividing $\frac{(x^p+y^p)(y^p+z^p…
