Let $Γ\,=\, \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt[5]{n})$ be a pure quintic field, where $n$ is a positive integer, $5^{th}$ power-free. Let $k_0\,=\,\mathbb{Q}(ζ_5)$ be the cyclotomic field containing a primitive $5^{th}$ root of unity $ζ_5$, and $k\,=\,Γ(ζ_5)$ be the normal closure of $Γ$. Let $C_{k,5}$ be the $5$-component of the class group of k. The purpose of this paper is to determine generators of $C_{k,5}$, whenever it is of type $(5,5)$ and the rank of the group of ambiguous classes under the action of $Gal(k/k_0)\, =\,\langle σ\rangle$ is $1$.
Let $\mathrm{k}=\mathbb{Q}\left(\sqrt[3]{p},ζ_3\right)$, where $p$ is a prime number such that $p \equiv 1 \pmod 9$, and let $C_{\mathrm{k},3}$ be the $3$-component of the class group of $\mathrm{k}$. In \cite{GERTH3}, Frank Gerth III proves a conjecture made by Calegari and Emerton \cite{Cal-Emer} which gives necessary and sufficient conditions for $C_{\mathrm{k},3}$ to be of $\operatorname{rank}\,$ two. The purpose of the present work is to determine generators of $C_{\mathrm{k},3}$, whenever it is isomorphic to $\mathbb{Z}/9\mathbb{Z} \times \mathbb{Z}/3\mathbb{Z}$.
We give bounds on the degree of generators for the ideal of relations of the graded algebras of modular forms with coefficients in $\mathbb{Q}$ over congruence subgroups $Γ_0(N)$ for $N$ satisfying some congruence conditions and for $Γ_1(N)$. We give similar bounds for the graded $\mathbb{Z}[\frac{1}{N}]$-algebra of modular forms on $Γ_1(N)$ with coefficients in $\mathbb{Z}[\frac{1}{N}]$. For a prime $p \geq 5$, we give a lower bound on the highest weight appearing in a minimal list of generators for $Γ_0(p)$, and we identify a set of generators for the graded algebra $M(Γ_0(p),\mathbb{Z})$ of…
Let $F=\mathbb{F}_q(T)$ be the field of rational functions with $\mathbb{F}_q$-coefficients, and $A=\mathbb{F}_q[T]$ be the subring of polynomials. Let $D$ be a division quaternion algebra over $F$ which is split at $1/T$. Given an $A$-order $Λ$ in $D$, we find an explicit finite set generating $Λ^\times$.
For the elliptic curve $E$ over $\mathbb{Q}(t)$ found by Kihara, with torsion group $\mathbb{Z}/4\mathbb{Z}$ and rank $\geq 5$, which is the current record for the rank of such curves, by using a suitable injective specialization, we determine exactly the rank and generators of $E(\mathbb{Q}(t))$.
For a positive integer $N$ divisible by $4,5,6,7$ or $9$, let $\mathcal{O}_{1,N}(\mathbb{Q})$ be the ring of weakly holomorphic modular functions for the congruence subgroup $Γ_1(N)$ with rational Fourier coefficients. We present explicit generators of the ring $\mathcal{O}_{1,N}(\mathbb{Q})$ over $\mathbb{Q}$ by making use of modular units which have infinite product expansions.
We study graded rings of modular forms over congruence subgroups, with coefficients in a subring $A$ of $\mathbb{C}$, and specifically the highest weight needed to generate these rings as $A$-algebras. In particular, we determine upper bounds, independent of $N$, for the highest needed weight that generates the $\mathbb{C}$-algebras of modular forms over $Γ(N)$, $Γ_1(N)$ and $Γ_0(N)$ with some conditions on $N$. For $N \geq 5$, we prove that the $\mathbb{Z}[1/N]$-algebra of modular forms over $Γ_1(N)$ with coefficients in $\mathbb{Z}[1/N]$ is generated in weight at most 3. We give an algorithm…
It is well known that if $\mathbb{F}$ is a finite field then $\mathbb{F^{*}}$, the set of non zero elements of $\mathbb{F}$, is a cyclic group. In this paper we will assume $\mathbb{F}=\mathbb{F}_{p}$ (the finite field with p elements, p a prime) and $\mathbb{\mathbb{F}}_{p^{2}}$ is a quadratic extension of $\mathbb{F}_{p}$. In this case, the groups $\mathbb{F}_{p}^{*}$ and $\mathbb{F}_{p^{2}}^{*}$ have orders $p-1$ and $p^{2}-1$ respectively. We will provide necessary and sufficient conditions for an element $u\in\mathbb{F}_{p^{2}}^{*}$ to be a generator. Specifically, we will prove $u$ is a …
The invariant theory of finite groups can connect the coding theory to the number theory. In this paper, under this conformity, we obtain the minimal generators of the rings of E-polynomials constructed from the groups related to $\mathbb{Z}_4$-codes. In addition, we determine the generators of the invariant rings appearing by E-Polynomials and complete weight enumerators of Type II $\mathbb{Z}_4$-codes.
Let $N$ be a positive square-free integer such that the discrete group $Γ_{0}(N)^{+}$ has genus one. In a previous article, we constructed canonical generators $x_{N}$ and $y_{N}$ of the holomorphic function field associated to $Γ_{0}(N)^{+}$ as well as an algebraic equation $P_{N}(x_{N},y_{N}) = 0$ with integer coefficients satisfied by these generators. In the present paper, we study the singular moduli problem corresponding to $x_{N}$ and $y_{N}$, by which we mean the arithmetic nature of the numbers $x_{N}(τ)$ and $y_{N}(τ)$ for any CM point $τ$ in the upper half plane $\mathbb{H}$. If $τ$…
Hashimoto and Ueda determined the weights of generators of the graded ring of modular forms on the Cayley half-space of degree two. In this paper we describe explicit generators. We show that the graded ring can be generated by Eisenstein series by calculating the dimensions of the homogeneous components. Moreover we give two distinct constructions for the skew-symmetric form of weight 252.
In this paper we will describe all vector-valued Siegel modular forms of degree 2 and weight ${\rm Sym}^6({\rm St}) \otimes \det^{k}({\rm St})$ with $k$ odd. These vector-valued forms constitute a module over the ring of classical Siegel modular forms of degree 2 and even weight and this module turns out to be free. In order to find generators, we generalize certain Rankin-Cohen differential operators on triples of classical Siegel modular forms that were first considered by Ibukiyama and we find a Rankin-Cohen bracket on vector-valued Siegel modular forms.
Irrespective of whether n is prime, prime power with exponent >1, or composite, the group U_n of units of Z_n can sometimes be obtained as the direct product of cyclic groups generated by x, x+k and x+2k, for x, k in Z_n. Indeed, for many values of n, many distinct 3-factor decompositions of this type exist. The circumstances in which such decompositions exist are examined. Many decompositions have additional interesting properties. We also look briefly at decompositions of the multiplicative groups of finite fields.
By reformulating and extending results of Elkies, we prove some results on $\mathbb Q$-curves over number fields of odd degree. We show that, over such fields, the only prime isogeny degrees~$\ell$ which an elliptic curve without CM may have are those degrees which are already possible over~$\mathbb Q$ itself (in particular, $\ell\le37$), and we show the existence of a bound on the degrees of cyclic isogenies between $\mathbb Q$-curves depending only on the degree of the field. We also prove that the only possible torsion groups of $\mathbb Q$-curves over number fields of degree not divisible …
In this paper we study a class of dynamical systems generated by iterations of multivariate polynomials and estimate the degreegrowth of these iterations. We use these estimates to bound exponential sums along the orbits of these dynamical systems and show that they admit much stronger estimates than in the general case and thus can be of use for pseudorandom number generation.
Let $p$ be a prime and $a$ a quadratic non-residue $\bmod p$. Then the set of integral solutions of the diophantine equation $x_0^2 - ax_1^2 -px_2^2 + apx_3^2=1$ form a cocompact discrete subgroup $Γ_{p,a}\subset SL(2,\mathbb{R})$ and is commensurable with the group of units of an order in a quaternion algebra over $\mathbb{Q}$. The problem addressed in this paper is an estimate for the traces of a set of generators for $Γ_{p,a}$. Empirical results summarized in several tables show that the trace has significant and irregular fluctuations which is reminiscent of the behavior of the size of a g…

We determine the probability that a random polynomial of degree $n$ over $\mathbb{Z}_p$ has exactly $r$ roots in $\mathbb{Q}_p$, and show that it is given by a rational function of $p$ that is invariant under replacing $p$ by $1/p$.
Let $\ell$ and $p \geq 3$ be distinct prime numbers. Let $E/\mathbb{Q}_{\ell}$ be an elliptic curve with $p$-torsion module $E_p$. Let $\mathbb{Q}_{\ell}(E_p)$ be the $p$-torsion field of $E$. We provide a complete description of the degree of the extension $\mathbb{Q}_{\ell}(E_p)/\mathbb{Q}_{\ell}$. As a consequence, we obtain a recipe to determine the discriminant ideal of the extension $\mathbb{Q}_{\ell}(E_p)/\mathbb{Q}_\ell$ in terms of standard information on $E$.
We prove that an additive form of degree $d=2m$, $m$ odd over any totally ramified extension of $\mathbb{Q}_2$ has a nontrivial zero if the number of variables $s$ satisifies $s \ge \frac{d^2}{4} + 3d + 1$.
We determine the minimal number of variables $Γ^*(d, K)$ which guarantees a nontrivial solution for every additive form of degree $d=2m$, $m$ odd, $m \ge 3$ over the six ramified quadratic extensions of $\mathbb{Q}_2$. We prove that if $K$ is one of $\{\mathbb{Q}_2(\sqrt{2}), \mathbb{Q}_2(\sqrt{10}), \mathbb{Q}_2(\sqrt{-2}), \mathbb{Q}_2(\sqrt{-10})\}$, $Γ^*(d,K) = \frac{3}{2}d$, and if $K$ is one of $\{\mathbb{Q}_2(\sqrt{-1}), \mathbb{Q}_2(\sqrt{-5})\}$, $Γ^*(d,K) = d+1$. The case $d=6$ was previously known.
We present a heuristic algorithm to compute the ideal class group, and a generator of a principal ideal in $\mathbb{Q}(ζ_{p^s})$ in time $2^{O(n^{1/2+\varepsilon})}$ for $n:= deg(K)$ and arbitrarily small $\varepsilon$. This yields an attack on the schemes relying on the hardness of finding a short generator of a principal ideal such as such as the homomorphic encryption scheme of Vercauteren and Smart, and the multilinear maps of Garg, Gentry and Halevi. We rely on the work from Cramer, Ducas, Peikert and Regev. They proved that finding a short generator polynomially reduces to finding an arb…
A primitive completely normal element for an extension $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}/\mathbb{F}_{q}$ of Galois fields is a generator of the multiplicative group of $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}$, which simultaneously is normal over every intermediate field of that extension. We are going to prove that such a generator exists when $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}/\mathbb{F}_{q}$ is an 'exceptional' regular extension. In combination with [6] our investigations altogether settle the existence of primitive completely normal bases for any regular extension. An important feature of the class of regular extensions is that they comprise ev…
Let $p$ be a prime and let $\mathbf{E}$ be an elliptic curve defined over the finite field $\mathbb{F}_p$ of $p$ elements. For a point $G\in\mathbf{E}(\mathbb{F}_p)$ the elliptic curve congruential generator (with respect to the first coordinate) is a sequence $(x_n)$ defined by the relation $x_n=x(W_n)=x(W_{n-1}\oplus G)=x(nG\oplus W_0)$, $n=1,2,\dots$, where $\oplus$ denotes the group operation in $\mathbf{E}$ and $W_0$ is an initial point. In this paper, we show that if some consecutive elements of the sequence $(x_n)$ are given as integers, then one can compute in polynomial time an ellipt…
