The purpose of this article is to give a simple and explicit construction of mock modular forms whose shadows are Eisenstein series of arbitrary integral weight, level, and character. As application, we construct forms whose shadows are Hecke's Eisenstein series of weight one associated to imaginary quadratic fields, recovering some results by Kudla, Rapoport and Yang (1999), and Schofer (2009), and forms whose shadows equal $Θ^{2k}(z)$ for $k\in \{1,2,3,4\}$, where $Θ(z)$ denotes Jacobi's theta function.
In this note, we explicitly construct mock modular forms with integral Fourier coefficients by evaluating regularized Petersson inner products involving their shadows, which are unary theta functions of weights 1/2 and 3/2 . In addition, we also improve the known bounds for the denominators of the coefficients of mock modular forms whose shadows are holomorphic weight one cusp forms constructed by Hecke.
This paper continues the study of the structures induced on the ``invisible boundary'' of the modular tower and extends some results of math.NT/0102006. We start with a systematic formalism of pseudo-measures generalizing the well-known theory of modular symbols for SL(2). These pseudo-measures, and the related integral formula which we call the Levy-Mellin transform, can be considered as an ``infinity-adic'' version of Mazur's p-adic measures introduced in the seventies in the theory of p-adic interpolation of Mellin transforms of cusp forms. A formalism of iterated Levy-Mellin transform in t…

We calculate the action of some Hecke operators on spaces of modular forms spanned by the Siegel theta-series of certain genera of strongly modular lattices closely related to the Leech lattice. Their eigenforms provide explicit examples of Siegel cusp forms.
Let $E$ be a $\mathbb Q$-curve without complex multiplication. We address the problem of deciding whether $E$ is geometrically isomorphic to a strongly modular $\mathbb Q$-curve. We show that the question has a positive answer if and only if $E$ has a model that is completely defined over an abelian number field. Next, if $E$ is completely defined over a quadratic or biquadratic number field $L$, we classify all strongly modular twists of $E$ over $L$ in terms of the arithmetic of $L$. Moreover, we show how to determine which of these twists come, up to isogeny, from a subfield of $L$.
In this paper, we explicitly construct mock modular forms whose shadows are Eisenstein series of arbitrary integral and half-integral weight, level and character at the cusps $\infty$ and $0$. As an application, we give explicit construction of harmonic weak Maass forms which are Hecke eigenforms and are the preimages of $Θ^k, k \in \{ 3, 5, 7\}$ under the shadow operator, where $Θ$ is the classical Jacobi theta function.
In this paper, we call strongly modular those reducible semi-simple odd mod $l$ Galois representations for which the conclusion of the strongest form of Serre's original modularity conjecture holds. Under the assumption that the Serre weight $k$ satisfies $l\textgreater{}k+1$, we give a precise characterization of strongly modular representations, hence generalizing a classical theorem of Ribet pertaining to the case of conductor $1$.When the representation $ρ$ is not strongly modular, we give a necessary and sufficient condition on the primes $p$ not dividing $Nl$ for which it arises in level…
In an earlier paper (math.NT/9906019) we showed that any integral unimodular lattice L of rank n which is not isometric with Z^n has a characteristic vector of norm at most n-8. [A "characteristic vector" of L is a vector w in L such that 2|(v,w-v) for all v in L; it is known that the characteristic vectors all have norm congruent to n mod 8 and comprise a coset of 2L in L.] Here we use modular forms and the classification of unimodular lattices of rank <24 to find all L whose minimal characteristic vectors have norm n-8. Along the way we also obtain congruences and a lower bound on the kissin…
The main result of this paper is a characterization of the abelian varieties $B/K$ defined over Galois number fields with the property that the zeta function $L(B/K;s)$ is equivalent to the product of zeta functions of non-CM newforms for congruence subgroups $Γ_1(N)$. The characterization involves the structure of End(B), isogenies between the Galois conjugates of $B$, and a Galois cohomology class attached to $B/K$. We call the varieties having this property strongly modular. The last section is devoted to the study of a family of abelian surfaces with quaternionic multiplication. As an illu…
One of the main open problems in the theory of automorphic products is to classify reflective modular forms. In [Sch06] Scheithauer classified strongly reflective modular forms of singular weight on lattices of prime level. In this paper we classify symmetric reflective modular forms on lattices of prime level. This yields a full classification of lattices of prime level which have reflective modular forms. We also present some applications.

We prove that the existence of a strongly reflective modular form of a large weight implies that the Kodaira dimension of the corresponding modular variety is negative or, in some special case, it is equal to zero. Using the Jacobi lifting we construct three towers of strongly reflective modular forms with the simplest possible divisor. In particular we obtain a Jacobi lifting construction of the Borcherds-Enriques modular form Phi_4 and Jacobi liftings of automorphic discriminants of the Kähler moduli of Del Pezzo surfaces constructed recently by Yoshikawa. We obtain also three modular variet…
The extremal 3-modular lattice $[\pm G_2(3)]_{14}$ with automorphism group $C_2 \times G_2(\F_3) $ is the unique dual strongly perfect lattice of dimension 14.
A main goal in lattice theory is the construction of dense lattices. Most of the remarkable dense lattices in small dimensions have an additional symmetry, they are modular, i.e. similar to their dual lattice. Extremal lattices are densest modular lattices, whoses density is as high as the theory of modular forms allows it to be. The theory of theta series with harmonic coefficients allows to classify and to construct extremal lattices as well as to prove that some of them are strongly perfect and hence local maxima of the density function.
We summarize interactions between vertex operator algebras and number theory through the lens of Zhu theory. The paper begins by recalling basic facts on vertex operator algebras (VOAs) and modular forms, and then explains Zhu's theorem on characters of VOAs in a slightly new form. We then axiomatize the desirable properties of modular forms that have played a role in Zhu's theorem and related classification results of VOAs. After this we summarize known classification results in rank two, emphasizing the geometric theory of vector-valued modular forms as a means for simplifying the discussion…
We show that for every $\ell>1$, there is a counterexample to the $\ell$-modular secrecy function conjecture by Oggier, Solé and Belfiore. These counterexamples all satisfy the modified conjecture by Ernvall-Hytönen and Sethuraman. Furthermore, we provide a method to prove or disprove the modified conjecture for any given $\ell$-modular lattice rationally equivalent to a suitable amount of copies of $\mathbb{Z}\oplus \sqrt{\ell}\,\mathbb{Z}$ with $\ell \in \{3,5,7,11,23\}$. We also provide a variant of the method for strongly $\ell$-modular lattices when $\ell\in \{6,14,15\}$.
We classify the dual strongly perfect lattices in dimension 16. There are four pairs of such lattices, the famous Barnes-Wall lattice $Λ_{16}$, the extremal 5-modular lattice $N_{16}$, the odd Barnes-Wall lattice $O_{16}$ and its dual, and one pair of new lattices $Γ_{16}$ and its dual. The latter pair belongs to a new infinite series of dual strongly perfect lattices, the sandwiched Barnes-Wall lattices, described by the authors in a previous paper. An updated table of all known strongly perfect lattices up to dimension 26 is available in the catalogue of lattices.
