McLean studied the deformations of compact special Lagrangian submanifolds, showing in particular that they come in moduli spaces whose dimension depends only on the topology of the submanifold. In this article we study the analogous problem for non-compact, "asymptotically conical" SL submanifolds, with respect to various "boundary conditions at infinity".
In this paper we study the short time existence problem for the (generalized) Lagrangian mean curvature flow in (almost) Calabi--Yau manifolds when the initial Lagrangian submanifold has isolated conical singularities modelled on stable special Lagrangian cones. Given a Lagrangian submanifold $F_0:L\rightarrow M$ in an almost Calabi--Yau manifold $M$ with isolated conical singularities at $x_1,...,x_n\in M$ modelled on stable special Lagrangian cones $C_1,...,C_n$ in $\mathbb{C}^m$, we show that for a short time there exist one-parameter families of points $x_1(t),... x_n(t)\in M$ and a one pa…
In this article we study the deformation theory of conically singular Cayley submanifolds. In particular, we prove a result on the expected dimension of a moduli space of Cayley deformations of a conically singular Cayley submanifold. Moreover, when the Cayley submanifold is a two-dimensional complex submanifold of a Calabi--Yau four-fold we show by comparing Cayley and complex deformations that in this special case the moduli space is a smooth manifold. We also perform calculations of some of the quantities discussed for some examples.
We develop a min-max theory for asymptotically conical self-expanders of mean curvature flow. In particular, we show that given two distinct strictly stable self-expanders that are asymptotic to the same cone and bound a domain, there exists a new asymptotically conical self-expander trapped between the two.
We study the asymptotic behaviour of the $p$-capacitary potential and of the weak Inverse Mean Curvature Flow of a bounded set along the ends of an Asymptotically Conical Riemannian manifolds with asymptotically nonnegative Ricci curvature.
We show that the space of asymptotically conical self-expanders of the mean curvature flow is a smooth Banach manifold. An immediate consequence is that non-degenerate self-expanders -- that is, those self-expanders that admit no non-trivial normal Jacobi fields that fix the asymptotic cone -- are generic in a certain sense.
The aim of this paper is to extend the definition of geodesics to conical manifolds, defined as submanifolds of $\R^n$ with a finite number of singularities. We look for an approach suitable both for the local geodesic problem and for the calculus of variation in the large
We establish the existence of an integer degree for the natural projection map from the space of parameterizations of asymptotically conical self-expanders to the space of parameterizations of the asymptotic cones when this map is proper. As an application we show that there is an open set in the space of cones in the three-dimensional Euclidean space for which each cone in the set has a strictly unstable self-expanding annuli asymptotic to it.
We show compactness in the locally smooth topology for certain natural families of asymptotically conical self-expanding solutions of mean curvature flow. Specifically, we show such compactness for the set of all two-dimensional self-expanders of a fixed topological type and, in all dimensions, for the set of self-expanders of low entropy and for the set of mean convex self-expanders with strictly mean convex asymptotic cones. From this we deduce that the natural projection map from the space of parameterizations of asymptotically conical self-expanders to the space of parameterizations of the…
Singularities of the mean curvature flow of an embedded surface in R^3 are expected to be modelled on self-shrinkers that are compact, cylindrical, or asymptotically conical. In order to understand the flow before and after the singular time, it is crucial to know the uniqueness of tangent flows at the singularity. In all dimensions, assuming the singularity is multiplicity one, uniqueness in the compact case has been established by the second-named author, and in the cylindrical case by Colding-Minicozzi. We show here the uniqueness of multiplicity-one asymptotically conical tangent flows for…
We consider the mapping properties of generalized Laplace-type operators ${\mathcal L} = \nabla^* \nabla + {\mathcal R}$ on the class of quasi-asymptotically conical (QAC) spaces, which provide a Riemannian generalization of the QALE manifolds considered by Joyce. Our main result gives conditions under which such operators are Fredholm when between certain weighted Sobolev or weighted Hölder spaces. These are generalizations of well-known theorems in the asymptotically conical (or asymptotically Euclidean) setting, and also sharpen and extend corresponding theorems by Joyce. The methods here a…
For any asymptotically conical self-shrinker with entropy less than or equal to that of a cylinder we show that the link of the asymptotic cone must separate the unit sphere into exactly two connected components, both diffeomorphic to the self-shrinker. Combining this with recent work of Brendle, we conclude that the round sphere uniquely minimizes the entropy among all non-flat two-dimensional self-shrinkers. This confirms a conjecture of Colding-Ilmanen-Minicozzi-White in dimension two.
In this article, we examine complete, mean-convex self-expanders for the mean curvature flow whose ends have decaying principal curvatures. We prove a Liouville-type theorem associated to this class of self-expanders. As an application, we show that mean-convex self-expanders which are asymptotic to $O(n)$-invariant cones are rotationally symmetric.
Let $C\subset\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ be a regular cone with vertex at the origin. In this paper, we show the uniqueness for smooth properly embedded self-shrinking ends in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ that are asymptotic to $C$. As an application, we prove that not every regular cone with vertex at the origin has a smooth complete properly embedded self-shrinker asymptotic to it.
We prove a uniqueness result for asymptotically conical (AC) gradient shrinking solitons for the Laplacian flow of closed G_2-structures: If two gradient shrinking solitons to Laplacian flow are asymptotic to the same closed G_2-cone, then their G_2-structures are equivalent, and in particular, the two solitons are isometric. The proof extends Kotschwar and Wang's argument for uniqueness of AC gradient shrinking Ricci solitons. We additionally show that the symmetries of the G_2-structure of an AC shrinker end are inherited from its asymptotic cone; under a mild assumption on the fundamental g…
We show that if two gradient Ricci solitons are asymptotic along some end of each to the same regular cone, then the soliton metrics must be isometric on some neighborhoods of infinity of these ends. Our theorem imposes no restrictions on the behavior of the metrics off of the ends in question and in particular does not require their geodesic completeness. As an application, we prove that the only complete connected gradient shrinking Ricci soliton asymptotic to a rotationally symmetric cone is the Gaussian soliton on R^n.
We show that at the level of formal expansions, any compact Riemannian manifold is the sphere at infinity of an asymptotically conical gradient expanding Ricci soliton.
We construct Gaussian Harmonic forms of finite Gaussian weighted $L^2$-norm on non-compact surfaces that detect each asymptotically conical end. As an application we prove an extension of the index estimates of self-shrinkers in $[11]$ under the existence of such ends. We show that the Morse index of a self-shrinker is greater or equal to $\frac{2g+r-1}{3}$, where $r$ is the number of asymptotically conical ends.
We prove an existence theorem for Asymptotically Conical Ricci Flat Kahler metrics in $\mathbb{C}^2$ with cone singularities along a smooth complex curve. These metrics are expected to arise as blow up limits of non collapsed sequences of Kahler Einstein metrics with cone singularities.
In this paper, we prove the uniqueness of asymptotically conical tangent flows in all codimensions. This is based on an early work of Chodosh-Schulze, who proved the uniqueness in the hypersurface case.
We study the degenerations of asymptotically conical Ricci-flat Kähler metrics as the Kähler class degenerates to a semi-positive class. We show that under appropriate assumptions, the Ricci-flat Kähler metrics converge to a incomplete smooth Ricci-flat Kähler metric away from a compact subvariety. As a consequence, we construct singular Calabi-Yau metrics with asymptotically conical behaviour at infinity on certain quasi-projective varieties and we show that the metric geometry of these singular metrics are homeomorphic to the topology of the singular variety. Finally, we will apply our resul…
We construct new examples of quasi-asymptotically conical (QAC) Calabi-Yau manifolds that are not quasi-asymptotically locally Euclidean (QALE). We do so by first providing a natural compactification of QAC-spaces by manifolds with fibred corners and by giving a definition of QAC-metrics in terms of an associated Lie algebra of smooth vector fields on this compactification. Thanks to this compactification and the Fredholm theory for elliptic operators on QAC-spaces developed by the second author and Mazzeo, we can in many instances obtain Kähler QAC-metrics having Ricci potential decaying suff…

We show that if a shrinking soliton is asymptotic to a cone along an end then the isometry group of the cross-section of the cone embeds in the isometry group of the end of the shrinker. We also provide sufficient conditions for the isometries of the end to extend to the entire shrinker.
We study coassociative 4-folds N in R^7 which are asymptotically conical to a cone C with rate lambda<1. If lambda is in the interval [-2,1) and generic, we show that the moduli space of coassociative deformations of N which are also asymptotically conical to C with rate lambda is a smooth manifold, and we calculate its dimension. If lambda<-2 and generic, we show that the moduli space is locally homeomorphic to the kernel of a smooth map between smooth manifolds, and we give a lower bound for its expected dimension. We also derive a test for when N will be planar if lambda<-2 and we discuss e…
A natural approach to the construction of nearly G2 manifolds lies in resolving nearly G2 spaces with isolated conical singularities by gluing in asymptotically conical G2 manifolds modelled on the same cone. If such a resolution exits, one expects there to be a family of nearly G2 manifolds, whose endpoint is the original nearly G2 conifold and whose parameter is the scale of the glued in asymptotically conical G2 manifold. We show that in many cases such a curve does not exist. The non-existence result is based on a topological result for asymptotically conical G2 manifolds: if the rate of t…
As part of the general investigation of Ricci flow on complete surfaces with finite total curvature, we study this flow for surfaces with asymptotically conical (which includes as a special case asymptotically Euclidean) geometries. After establishing long-time existence, and in particular the fact that the flow preserves the asymptotically conic geometry, we prove that the solution metric $g(t)$ expands at a locally uniform linear rate; moreover, the rescaled family of metrics $t^{-1}g(t)$ exhibits a transition at infinite time inasmuch as it converges locally uniformly to a complete, finite …
We consider an inverse problem associated with some 2-dimensional non-compact surfaces with conical singularities, cusps and regular ends. Our motivating example is a Riemann surface $\mathcal M = Γ\backslash{\bf H}^2$ associated with a Fuchsian group of the 1st kind $Γ$ containing parabolic elements. $\mathcal M$ is then non-compact, and has a finite number of cusps and elliptic singular points, which is regarded as a hyperbolic orbifold. We introduce a class of Riemannian surfaces with conical singularities on its finite part, having cusps and regular ends at infinity, whose metric is asympt…
We present a method to desingularize a compact G_2 manifold with isolated conical singularities by cutting out a neighbourhood of each singular point and glueing in an asymptotically conical G_2 manifold. Controlling the error on the overlap glueing region enables us to use a result of Joyce to conclude that the resulting compact smooth 7-manifold admits a torsion-free G_2 structure, with full G_2 holonomy. There are topological obstructions for this procedure to work, which arise from the degree 3 and degree 4 cohomology of the asymptotically conical G_2 manifolds which are glued in at each c…
We study the deformations of an asymptotically cylindrical Cayley submanifold inside an asymptotically cylindrical Spin(7)-manifold. We prove an index formula for the operator of Dirac type that arises as the linearisation of the deformation map and show that if the Spin(7)-structure is generic, then there are no obstructions, and hence the moduli space is a smooth finite-dimensional manifold whose dimension is equal to the index of the operator of Dirac type. We further construct examples of asymptotically cylindrical Cayley submanifolds inside the asymptotically cylindrical Riemannian 8-mani…
Given an associative 3-fold in R^7 which is asymptotically conical with generic rate less than 1, we show that its moduli space of deformations is locally homeomorphic to the kernel of a smooth map between smooth manifolds. Moreover, the virtual dimension of the moduli space is computed and shown to be non-negative for rates greater than -1, whereas the associative 3-fold is expected to be isolated for rates less than or equal to -1.
In an earlier paper, we proved that, under certain hypotheses, the moduli space of an asymptotically cylindrical special Lagrangian submanifold with fixed boundary of an asymptotically cylindrical Calabi-Yau 3-fold is a smooth manifold. Here we prove the analogous result for an asymptotically cylindrical special Lagrangian submanifold with moving boundary.
We give a complete description of the behaviour of Calabi-Yau instantons and monopoles with an $SU(2)^2$-symmetry, on Calabi-Yau 3-folds with asymptotically conical geometry and $SU(2)^2$ acting with co-homogeneity one. We consider gauge theory on the smoothing and the small resolution of the conifold, and on the canonical bundle of $\mathbb{CP}^1 \times \mathbb{CP}^1$, with their known asymptotically conical co-homogeneity one Calabi-Yau metrics, and find new one-parameter families of invariant instantons. We also entirely classify the relevant moduli-spaces of instantons and monopoles satisf…

Readers are advised to begin with this paper. We survey the major results of the previous four papers, giving brief explanations of the proofs. We consider the moduli space $\mathcal{M}_ν$ of torsion-free, asymptotically conical (AC) Spin(7)-structures which are defined on the same manifold and asymptotic to the same Spin(7)-cone with decay rate $ν<0$. We show that $\mathcal{M}_ν$ is an orbifold if $ν$ is a generic rate in the non-$L^2$ regime $(-4,0)$. Infinitesimal deformations are given by topological data and solutions to a non-elliptic first-order PDE system on the compact link of the asymptotic cone. As an application, we show that the classical Bryant-Salamon metric on the bundle of positive spinors on $S^4$ has no continuous d…
We study the isoperimetric structure of Riemannian manifolds that are asymptotic to cones with non-negative Ricci curvature. Specifically, we generalize to this setting the seminal results of G. Huisken and S.-T. Yau on the existence of a canonical foliation by volume preserving stable constant mean curvature surfaces at infinity of asymptotically flat manifolds as well as the results of the second-named author with S. Brendle and J. Metzger on the isoperimetric structure of asymptotically flat manifolds. We also include an observation on the isoperimetric cone angle of such manifolds. This re…
We employ min-max methods to construct uncountably many, geometrically distinct, properly embedded geodesic lines in any asymptotically conical surface of non-negative scalar curvature, a setting where minimization schemes are doomed to fail. Our construction provides control of the Morse index of the geodesic lines we produce, which will be always less or equal than one (with equality under suitable curvature or genericity assumptions), as well as of their precise asymptotic behaviour. In fact, we can prove that in any such surface for every couple of opposite half-lines there exists an embed…
Using methods of A. Grigor'yan and L. Saloff-Coste we prove that on a manifold with a conical end the heat kernel has a Gaussian bound. This result is applied to asymptotically conical Kähler manifolds. It is a result of the author and R. Goto that a crepant resolution of a Ricci-flat Kähler cone admits a Ricci-flat Kähler metric asymptotic to the cone metric in every Kähler class. We prove the sharp rate of convergence of the metric to the cone metric. For compact Kähler classes this is the same as for the Ricci-flat ALE metrics of P. Kronheimer and D. Joyce.
We prove an expansion theorem on scalar-flat asymptotically conical Kähler metrics. Consider an AC Kähler manifold with asymptotic to a Ricci-flat Kähler metric cone with complex dimension n. Assuming the weak decay conditions required for the mass to be well-defined, then each scalar-flat AC Kähler metric admits an expansion that the main term is given by the standard Kähler metric of the metric cone and the leading error term is of O(r^{2-2n}) with coefficient only depending on the ADM mass and its dimension. Besides, the mass formula by Hein-LeBrun also can be proved in our setting. As an a…

If the initial hypersurface of an immortal mean curvature flow is asymptotic to a regular cone whose entropy is small, the flow will become asymptotically self-expanding. Moreover, the expander that gives rise to the limiting flow is asymptotically stable as an equilibrium solution of the normalized mean curvature flow.
