We calculate the fibre integrals of the hypersurface in a torus in the form of their Mellin transforms. Especially, our method works efficiently for an affine hypersurface defined by a so called simpliciable polynomial. The relations between poles of Mellin transforms of fibre integrals, the mixed Hodge structure of the cohomology of the hypersurface, the hypergeometric differential equation and the Euler characteristic of fibres are clarified.
Hodge correlators are complex numbers given by certain integrals assigned to a smooth complex curve. We show that they are correlators of a Feynman integral, and describe the real mixed Hodge structure on the pronilpotent completion of the fundamental group of the curve. We introduce motivic correlators, which are elements of the motivic Lie algebra and whose periods are the Hodge correlators. They describe the motivic fundamental group of the curve. We describe variations of real mixed Hodge structures on a variety by certain connections on the product of the variety by an afine line. We call…
The purpose of this work is to geometrize the notion of mixed Hodge structure. Therefore, we associate equivariant vector bundles on the projective plane to trifiltered vector spaces. Making this Rees construction with filtrations arising from mixed Hodge structures gives an equivalence of categories between the category of mixed Hodge structures and a category of equivariant vector bundles on ${\bf P}^{2}_{\bf C}$ that are semistable for a semistability condition with respect to a divisor. Using this dictionary we can recover geometrically some properties of mixed Hodge structures like the ab…
We consider algebraic manifolds $Y$ of dimension 3 over $\Bbb{C}$ with $H^i(Y, Ω^j_Y)=0$ for all $j\geq 0$ and $i>0$. Let $X$ be a smooth completion of $Y$ with $D=X-Y$, an effective divisor on $X$ with normal crossings. If the $D$-dimension of $X$ is not zero, then $Y$ is a fibre space over a smooth affine curve $C$ (i.e., we have a surjective morphism from $Y$ to $C$ such that general fibre is smooth and irreducible) such that every fibre satisfies the same vanishing condition. If an irreducible smooth fibre is not affine, then the Kodaira dimension of $X$ is $-\infty$ and the $D$-dimension …
We study a natural Hodge module on the Hilbert scheme of four points on affine three-space, which categorifies the Donaldson--Thomas invariant of the Hilbert scheme. We determine the weight filtration on the Hodge module explicitly in terms of intersection cohomology complexes, and compute the E-polynomial of its cohomology. The computations make essential use of a description of the singularity of the Hilbert scheme as the degeneracy locus of the Pfaffian function.
We investigate the cohomology of the Milnor fibre of a reflection arrangement as a module for the group $Γ$ generated by the reflections, together with the cyclic monodromy. Although we succeed completely only for unitary reflection groups of rank two, we establish some general results which relate the isotypic componenents of the monodromy on the cohomology, to the Hodge structure and to the cohomology degree. Using eigenspace theory for reflection groups, we prove some sum formulae for additive functions such as the equivariant weight polynomial and certain polynomials related to the Euler c…
Given a proper, smooth (formal) scheme over the ring of integers of $\mathbb C_p$, we prove that if the crystalline cohomology of its special fibre is torsion-free then the $p$-adic étale cohomology of its generic fibre is also torsion-free. In this announcement we sketch the proof, which relies on the construction of a new cohomology theory interpolating between crystalline and étale cohomology. Further details and results, including a comparison isomorphism, will be presented in the full forthcoming article.
We first provide details for the proof of Fujita's second theorem for Kähler fibre spaces over a curve, asserting that the direct image $V$ of the relative dualizing sheaf splits as the direct sum $ V = A \oplus Q$, where $A$ is ample and $Q$ is unitary flat. Our main result then answers in the negative the question posed by Fujita whether $V$ is semiample. In fact, $V$ is semiample if and only if $Q$ is associated to a representation of the fundamental group of $B$ having finite image. Our examples are based on hypergeometric integrals.
Fujita's second theorem for Kähler fibre spaces over a curve asserts that the direct image $V$ of the relative dualizing sheaf splits as the direct sum $ V = A \oplus Q$, where $A$ is ample and $Q$ is unitary flat. We focus on our negative answer (\cite{cd}) to a question by Fujita: is $V$ semiample? We give here an infinite series of counterexamples using hypergeometric integrals and we give a simple argument to show that the monodromy representation is infinite. Our counterexamples are surfaces of general type with positive index, explicitly given as abelian coverings with group $(\mathbb Z/…
The Mellin transform of fibre integral is calculated for certain isolated singularities of quasihomogeneous complete intersections (especially the unimodal singualrities of the list by Giusti and Wall). We show the property of symmetry between spectra of Gauss-Manin and shed light on the lattice structure of poles of the Mellin transform by means of topological data of the singularity. As an application, Hodge numbers of the Milnor fibre are expressed by counting the spectra of Gauss-Manin.
Let $R$ be a discrete valuation ring of mixed characteristics $(0,p)$, with finite residue field $k$ and fraction field $K$, let $k'$ be a finite extension of $k$, and let $X$ be a regular, proper and flat $R$-scheme, with generic fibre $X_K$ and special fibre $X_k$. Assume that $X_K$ is geometrically connected and of Hodge type $\geq 1$ in positive degrees. Then we show that the number of $k'$-rational points of $X$ satisfies the congruence $|X(k')| \equiv 1$ mod $|k'|$. Thanks to \cite{BBE07}, we deduce such congruences from a vanishing theorem for the Witt cohomology groups $H^q(X_k, W\sO_{…
We prove the isogeny property for special fibres of integral canonical models of compact Shimura varieties of $A_n$, $B_n$, $C_n$, and $D_n^{\dbR}$ type. The approach used also shows that many crystalline cycles on abelian varieties over finite fields which are specializations of Hodge cycles, are algebraic. These two results have many applications. First, we prove a variant of the conditional Langlands--Rapoport conjecture for these special fibres. Second, for certain isogeny sets we prove a variant of the unconditional Langlands--Rapoport conjecture (like for many basic loci). Third, we prov…
This is a review article on the combinatorial aspects of the mixed Hodge structure of a Milnor fibre of the isolated hypersurface singularity. We give a purely combinatorial method to compute spectral pairs of the singularity under the assumption of simplicial Newton boundary and non-degeneracy of the germ.
Mellin transform of fibre integral is calculated for certain classes of non-degenerate affine complete intersections. The lattice structure of the poles of the Mellin transform is clarified by means of the mixed Hodge structure of the affine variety in question. One establishes the relation of the fibre integral with the hypergeometric function of Horn and that of Gel'fand-Kapranov-Zelevinski. As an application we prove an hypothesis proposed by Berglund, Candelas et altri on the mirror symmetry.
Building upon the Bloch-Kato conjecture in Milnor K-theory, we relate the third unramified cohomology group with Q/Z coefficients with a group which measures the failure of the integral Hodge conjecture in degree 4. As a first consequence, a geometric theorem of the second-named author implies that the third unramified cohomology group with Q/Z coefficients vanishes on all uniruled threefolds. As a second consequence, a 1989 example by Ojanguren and the first named author implies that the integral Hodge conjecture in degree 4 fails for unirational varieties of dimension at least 6. For certain…
Geometric variations of local systems are families of variations of Hodge structure; they typically correspond to fibrations of Kähler manifolds for which each fibre itself is fibred by codimension one Kähler manifolds. In this article, we introduce the formalism of geometric variations of local systems and then specialize the theory to study families of elliptic surfaces. We interpret a construction of twisted elliptic surface families used by Besser-Livné in terms of the middle convolution functor, and use explicit methods to calculate the variations of Hodge structure underlying the univers…
Motivated by the Strominger-Yau-Zaslow conjecture, we study fibre spaces whose total space has trivial canonical bundle. Especially, we are interest in Calabi-Yau varieties with fibre structure. In this paper, we only consider semi-stable families. We use Hodge theory and the generalized Donaldson-Simpson-Uhlenbeck-Yau correspondence to study the parabolic structure of higher direct images over higher dimensional quasi-projective base, and obtain an important result on parabolic-semi-positivity. We then apply this result to study nonisotrivial Calabi-Yau varieties fibred by Abelian varieties (…
Let $(G,X)$ be a Shimura pair of Hodge type such that $G$ is the Mumford--Tate group of some elements of $X$. We assume that for each simple factor $G_0$ of $G^{\ad}$ there exists a simple factor of $G_{0\dbR}$ which is compact. Let $N\Ge 3$. We show that for many compact open subgroups $K$ of $G(\dbA_f)$, the Shimura variety $\Sh(G,X)/K$ has a projective integral model $\scrN$ over $\dbZ[{1\over N}]$ which is a finite scheme over a certain Mumford moduli scheme $\scrA_{g,1,N}$. Equivalently, we show that if $A$ is an abelian variety over a number field and if the Mumford--Tate group of $A_{\d…
The main problem addressed in the paper is the Torelli problem for n-dimensional varieties of general type, more specifically for varieties with ample canonical bundle. It asks under which geometrical condition for a variety the period map for the Hodge structure of weight n is a local embedding. We define a line bundle to be almost very ample iff the associated linear system is base point free and yields an injective morphism. We define instead a line bundle to be quasi very ample if it yields a birational morphism which is a local embedding on the complement of a finite set. Our main result …
Let $f : X \to S$ be a family of smooth projective algebraic varieties over a smooth connected base $S$, with everything defined over $\overline{\mathbb{Q}}$. Denote by $\mathbb{V} = R^{2i} f_{*} \mathbb{Z}(i)$ the associated integral variation of Hodge structure on the degree $2i$ cohomology. We consider the following question: when can a fibre $\mathbb{V}_{s}$ above an algebraic point $s \in S(\overline{\mathbb{Q}})$ be isomorphic to a transcendental fibre $\mathbb{V}_{s'}$ with $s' \in S(\mathbb{C}) \setminus S(\overline{\mathbb{Q}})$? When $\mathbb{V}$ induces a quasi-finite period map $φ:…
We shall construct a natural Higgs bundle structure on the complexified Kähler cone of a compact Kähler manifold, which can be seen as an analogy of the classical Higgs bundle structure associated to a variation of Hodge structure. In the proof of the flat-ness of our Higgs bundle, we find a commutator identity that can be used to decode the variational properties of the polarized Hodge-Lefschetz module structure on the fibres of our Higgs bundle. Thus we can use a generalized version of Lu's Hodge metric to study the curvature property of the complexified Kähler cone. In particular, it implie…
Let $S$ be the special fibre of a Shimura variety of Hodge type, with good reduction at a place above $p$. We give an alternative construction of the zip period map for $S$, which is used to define the Ekedahl-Oort strata of $S$. The method employed is local, $p$-adic, and group-theoretic in nature.
The goal of this paper is to propose a theory of mirror symmetry for varieties of general type. Using Landau-Ginzburg mirrors as motivation, we describe the mirror of a hypersurface of general type (and more generally varieties of non-negative Kodaira dimension) as the critical locus of the zero fibre of a certain Landau-Ginzburg potential. The critical locus carries a perverse sheaf of vanishing cycles. Our main results shows that one obtains the interchange of Hodge numbers expected in mirror symmetry. This exchange is between the Hodge numbers of the hypersurface and certain Hodge numbers d…
Faltings' approach in $p$-adic Hodge theory can be schematically divided into two main steps: firstly, a local reduction of the computation of the $p$-adic étale cohomology of a smooth variety over a $p$-adic local field to a Galois cohomology computation and then, the establishment of a link between the latter and differential forms. These relations are organized through Faltings ringed topos whose definition relies on the choice of an integral model of the variety, and whose good properties depend on the (logarithmic) smoothness of this model. Scholze's generalization for rigid analytic vari…
Let $ S $ be the special fibre of the good reduction of a Shimura variety of Hodge type. By constructing adapted deformations for the associated $p$-divisible groups of $ S $, we manage to construct a morphism from $S$ to some quotient sheaf of the loop group associated with $S$. We show that the geometric fibres of this morphism give back the Ekedahl-Oort strata of $S$. For any geometric point $ x $ of $ S $, we give a deformation over $ W(k(x)) $ of the $ p $-divisible group associated with $ x $ by (non-canonically) constructing a Breuil-Kisin window (which corresponds to a $ p $-divisible …
The motivation for this paper is the study of arithmetic properties of Shimura varieties, in particular the Newton stratification of the special fiber of a suitable integral model at a prime with parahoric level structure. This is closely related to the structure of Rapoport-Zink spaces and of affine Deligne-Lusztig varieties. We prove a Hodge-Newton decomposition for affine Deligne-Lusztig varieties and for the special fibres of Rapoport-Zink spaces, relating these spaces to analogous ones defined in terms of Levi subgroups, under a certain condition (Hodge-Newton decomposability) which can b…
