The notion of Poisson manifold with compatible pseudo-metric was introduced by the author in [1]. In this paper, we introduce a new class of Lie algebras which we call a pseudo-Rieamannian Lie algebras. The two notions are strongly related: we prove that a linear Poisson structure on the dual of a Lie algebra has a compatible pseudo-metric if and only if the Lie algebra is a pseudo-Riemannian Lie algebra, and that the Lie algebra obtained by linearizing at a point a Poisson manifold with compatible pseudo-metric is a pseudo-Riemannian Lie algebra. Furthermore, we give some properties of the symplectic leaves of such manifolds, and we prove that every Poisson manifold with compatible metric (every Riemann-Lie algebra) is unimodular. As a final, we classify all pseudo-Riemannian Lie algebras of dimension 2 and 3.
A formal treatment of Killing 1-form and 2-Killing 1-form on Riemannian Poisson manifold, Riemannian Poisson warped product space are presented. In this way, we obtain Bochner type result on compact Riemannian Poisson manifold, compact Riemannian Poisson warped product space for Killing 1-form and 2-Killing 1-form. Finally, we give the characterization of a 2-Killing 1-form on $(\mathbb{R}^2,g,Π)$.
In this Note, we will characterize the Poisson structures compatible with the canonical metric of $\reel^3$. We will also give some relvant examples of such structures. The notion of compatibility used in this Note was introduced and studied by the author in previous papers.
Notions of compatible and almost compatible pseudo-Riemannian metrics, which are motivated by the theory of compatible (local and nonlocal) Poisson structures of hydrodynamic type and generalize the notion of flat pencil of metrics, are introduced and studied.
Arnlind, Hoppe and Huisken showed how to express the Gauss and mean curvature of a surface embedded in a Riemannian manifold in terms of Poisson brackets of the embedding coordinates. We generalize these expressions to the pseudo-Riemannian setting and derive explicit formulas for the case of surfaces embedded in $\R^m$ with indefinite metric.
Let $(G,Π_{G},\tilde{g})$ be a Poisson-Lie group equipped with a left invariant pseudo-Riemannian metric $\tilde{g}$ and let $(TG,Π_{TG},\tilde{g}^{c})$ be the Sanchez de Alvarez tangent Poisson-Lie group of $G$ equipped with the left invariant pseudo-Riemannian metric $\tilde{g}^{c}$, complete lift of $\tilde{g}$. In this paper, we express respectively the Levi-Civita connection, curvature and metacurvature of $(TG,Π_{TG},\tilde{g}^{c})$ in terms of the Levi-Civita connection, curvature and metacurvature of the basis Poisson-Lie group $(G,Π_{G},\tilde{g})$ and we prove that the space of diffe…
We will introduce two notions of compatibility bettwen pseudo-Riemannian metric and Poisson structure using the notion of contravariant connection introduced by Fernandes R. L., we will study some proprities of manifold endowed with such compatible structures an we will give some examples.
A Riemann-Lie algebra is a Lie algebra $\cal G$ such that its dual ${\cal G}^*$ carries a Riemannian metric compatible (in the sense introduced by th author in C. R. Acad. Paris, t. 333, Série I, (2001) 763-768) with the canonical linear Poisson sructure of ${\cal G}^*$. The notion of Riemann-Lie algebra has its origins in the study, by the author, of Riemann-Poisson manifolds (see Preprint math.DG/0206102 to appear in Differential Geometry and its Applications). In this paper, we show that, for a Lie group $G$, its Lie algebra $\cal G$ carries a structure of Riemann-Lie algebra iff $G$ carrie…
We study a class of Poisson tensors on a fibered manifold which are compatible with the fiber bundle structure by the so-called almost coupling condition. In the case of a $5$-dimensional orientable fibered manifolds with $2$-dimensional bases, we describe a global behavior of almost coupling Poisson tensors and their singularities by using a bigraded factorization of the Jacobi identity. In particular, we present some unimodularity criteria and describe a class of gauge type transformations preserving the almost coupling property.
In this article, we prove Talenti's comparison theorem for Poisson equation on complete noncompact Riemannian manifold with nonnegative Ricci curvature. Furthermore, we obtain the Faber-Krahn inequality for the first eigenvalue of Dirichlet Laplacian, $L^1$- and $L^\infty$-moment spectrum, especially Saint-Venant theorem for torsional rigidity and a reverse Hölder inequality for eigenfunctions of Dirichlet Laplacian.
In this short note, we study the gradient estimate of positive solutions to Poisson equation and the non-homogeneous heat equation in a compact Riemannian manifold (M^n,g). Our results extend the gradient estimate for positive harmonic functions and positive solutions to heat equations.
We generalize Poisson-Nijenhuis structures. We prove that on a manifold endowed with a Nijenhuis tensor and a Jacobi structure which are compatible, there is a hierarchy of pairwise compatible Jacobi structures. Furthermore, we study the homogeneous Poisson-Nijenhuis structures and their relations with Jacobi structures.
We show that, for any regular Poisson manifold, there is an injective natural linear map from the first leafwise cohomology space into the first Poisson cohomology space which maps the Reeb class of the symplectic foliation to the modular class of the Poisson manifold. The Riemannian interpretation of those classes will permit us to show that a regular Poisson manifold whose symplectic foliation is of codimension one is unimodular if and only if its symplectic foliation is Riemannian foliation. It permit us also to construct examples of unimodular Poisson manifolds and other which are not unim…
In this paper, by using Schwarz rearrangement and isoperimetric inequalities, we prove comparison results for the solutions of Poisson equations on complete Riemannian manifolds with $Ric\geq (n-1)κ$, $\, κ\geq 0$, which extends the results in \cite{ANT-Talenti-a}. Furthermore, as applications of our comparison results, we obtain the Saint-Venant inequality and Bossel-Daners inequality for Robin Laplacian.
Some general properties of compatible Poisson brackets of hydrodynamic type are discussed, in particular: (1) an invariant differential-geometric criterion of the compatibility based on the Nijenhuis tensor; (2) the Lax pair with a spectral parameter governing compatible Poisson brackets in the diagonalizable case; (3) the connection of this problem with the class of surfaces in Euclidean space which possess nontrivial deformations preserving the Weingarten operator.
The nonlinear equations describing all the nonsingular pencils of metrics of constant Riemannian curvature are derived and the integrability of these nonlinear equations by the method of inverse scattering problem is proved. It is proved that all the nonsingular pairs of compatible metrics of constant Riemannian curvature are described by special integrable reductions of nonlinear equations defining orthogonal curvilinear coordinate systems in the spaces of constant curvature.
We prove that the description of pencils of compatible (N x N)-metrics of constant Riemannian curvature is equivalent to a special class of integrable N-parametric deformations of quasi-Frobenius (in general, noncommutative) algebras.
We prove an existence result for the Poisson equation on non-compact Riemannian manifolds satisfying weighted Poincaré inequalities outside compact sets. Our result applies to a large class of manifolds including, for instance, all non-parabolic manifolds with minimal positive Green's function vanishing at infinity. On the source function we assume a sharp pointwise decay depending on the weight appearing in the Poincaré inequality and on the behavior of the Ricci curvature at infinity. We do not require any curvature or spectral assumptions on the manifold.
We show that generalized broken fibrations in arbitrary dimensions admit rank-2 Poisson structures compatible with the fibration structure. After extending the notion of wrinkled fibration to dimension 6 we prove that these wrinkled fibrations also admit compatible rank-2 Poisson structures. In the cases with indefinite singularities we can provide these wrinkled fibrations in dimension 6 with near-symplectic structures.
In the present work, the integrable bi-Hamiltonian hierarchies related to compatible nonlocal Poisson brackets of hydrodynamic type are effectively constructed. For achieving this aim, first of all, the problem on the canonical form of a special type for compatible nonlocal Poisson brackets of hydrodynamic type is solved.
In this paper, we generalize the geometry of the product pseudo-Riemannian manifold equipped with the product Poisson structure (\cite{Nas2}) to the geometry of a warped product of pseudo-Riemannian manifolds equipped with a warped Poisson structure. We construct three bivector fields on a product manifold and show that each of them lead under certain conditions to a Poisson structure. One of these bivector fields will be called the warped bivector field. For a warped product of pseudo-Riemannian manifolds equipped with a warped bivector field, we compute the corresponding contravariant Levi-C…
We solve the problem of reducing to the simplest and convenient for our purposes, canonical form for an arbitrary pair of compatible nonlocal Poisson brackets of hydrodynamic type generated by metrics of constant Riemannian curvature in order to get an effective construction of the integrable hierarchies related to all these compatible Poisson brackets.
We provide an alternative method for obtaining of compatible Poisson structures on Lie groups by means of the adjoint representations of Lie algebras. In this way, we calculate some compatible Poisson structures on four dimensional and nilpotent six dimensional symplectic real Lie groups. Then using Magri-Morosi's theorem we obtain new bi-Hamiltonian systems with four dimensional and nilpotent six dimensional symplectic real Lie groups as phase spaces.
The nonlinear equations for the general nonsingular pairs of compatible nonlocal Poisson brackets of hydrodynamic type are derived and the integrability of these equations by the method of inverse scattering problem is proved. For these equations, the Lax pairs with a spectral parameter are presented. Moreover, we demonstrate the integrability of the equations for some especially important partial classes of compatible nonlocal Poisson brackets of hydrodynamic type, in particular, for the most important case when one of the compatible Poisson brackets is local and also for the case when one of…
We study conditions for the integrability of the distribution defined on a regular Poisson manifold as the orthogonal complement (with respect to some (pseudo)-Riemannian metric) to the tangent spaces of the leaves of a symplectic foliation. Examples of integrability and non-integrability of this distribution are provided.
In this paper, we study the Sobolev regularity of solutions to nonlinear second order elliptic equations with super-linear first-order terms on Riemannian manifolds, complemented with Neumann boundary conditions, when the source term of the equation belongs to a Lebesgue space, under various integrability regimes. Our method is based on an integral refinement of the Bochner's identity, and leads to "semilinear Calderón-Zygmund" type results. Applications to the problem of smoothness of solutions to Mean Field Games systems with Neumann boundary conditions posed on convex domains of the Euclide…
Let (M, g) be a pseudo Riemannian manifold. We consider four geometric structures on M compatible with g: two almost complex and two almost product structures satisfying additionally certain integrability conditions. For instance, if r is a product structure and symmetric with respect to g, then r induces a pseudo Riemannian product structure on M. Sometimes the integrability condition is expressed by the closedness of an associated two-form: if j is almost complex on M and ω(x, y) = g(jx, y) is symplectic, then M is almost pseudo Kähler. Now, product, complex and symplectic structures on M ar…
This work is devoted to the study of a class of Poisson-Lie groups endowed with left invariant metrics. The triples $(G,π,<,>)$ are considered, where $G$ is a simply connected Lie group, ?$π$ is a multiplicative Poisson tensor and $<,>$ is a left invariant riemannian metric such that Hawkins conditions are satisfied. Hawkins conditions are necessary conditions for the deformation of the graded algebra of differential forms of a riemannian manifold. These conditions come from the deformation of the noncommutative spectral triple describing the manifold. The main result of this thesis is the equ…
We give a notion of compatibility between a Riemannian structure and a Jacobi structure. We prove that in case of fundamental examples of Jacobi structures : Poisson structures, contact structures and locally conformally symplectic structures, we get respectively Riemann-Poisson structures in the sense of M. Boucetta, 1/2-Kenmotsu structures and locally conformally Kahler structures.
The conjecture of D.Blair says that there are no nonflat Riemannian metrics of nonpositive curvature compatible with a contact structure. We prove this conjecture for a certain class of contact structures on closed 3-dimensional manifolds and construct a local counterexample. We also prove that a hyperbolic metric on $\mathbb{R}^3$ cannot be compatible with any contact structure.
A Riemann-Poisson Lie group is a Lie group endowed with a left invariant Riemannian metric and a left invariant Poisson tensor which are compatible in the sense introduced in C.R. Acad. Sci. Paris sér. {\bf I 333} (2001) 763-768. We study these Lie groups and we give a characterization of their Lie algebras. We give also a way of building these Lie algebras and we give the list of such Lie algebras up to dimension 5.
In a preceding paper we introduced a notion of compatibility between a Jacobi structure and a Riemannian structure on a smooth manifold. We proved that in the case of fundamental examples of Jacobi structures : Poisson structures, contact structures and locally conformally symplectic structures, we get respectively Riemann-Poisson structures in the sense of M. Boucetta, (1/2)-Kenmotsu structures and locally conformally Kähler structures. In this paper we are generalizing this work to the framework of Lie algebroids.
We study noncommutative bundles and Riemannian geometry at the semiclassical level of first order in a deformation parameter $λ$, using a functorial approach. The data for quantisation of the cotangent bundle is known to be a Poisson structure and Poisson preconnection and we now show that this data defines to a functor $Q$ from the monoidal category of classical vector bundles equipped with connections to the monodial category of bimodules equipped with bimodule connections over the quantised algebra. We adapt this functor to quantise the wedge product of the exterior algebra and in the Riema…
We semiclassicalise the theory of quantum group principal bundles to the level of Poisson geometry. The total space $X$ is a Poisson manifold with Poisson-compatible contravariant connection, the fibre is a Poisson-Lie group in the sense of Drinfeld with bicovariant Poisson-compatible contravariant connection, and the base has an inherited Poisson structure and Poisson-compatible contravariant connection. The latter are known to be the semiclassical data for a quantum differential calculus. The theory is illustrated by the Poisson level of the $q$-Hopf fibration on the standard $q$-sphere. We …
We extend the Falceto-Zambon version of Marsden-Ratiu Poisson reduction to Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis structures with background on manifolds. We define gauge transformations of Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis structures with background, study some of their properties and show that they are compatible with reduction procedure. We use gauge transformations to construct Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis structures with background.
Riemann Poisson manifolds were introduced by the author in [1] and studied in more details in [2]. Kähler-Riemann foliations form an interesting subset of the Riemannian foliations with remarkable properties (see [3]). In this paper we will show that to give a regular Riemann Poisson structure on a manifold $M$ is equivalent to to give a Kähler-Riemann foliation on $M$ such that the leafwise symplectic form is invariant with respect to all local foliate perpendicular vector fields. We show also that the sum of the vector space of leafwise cohomology and the vector space of basic forms is a sub…
Generalized Berwald manifolds are Finsler manifolds admitting linear connections such that the parallel transports preserve the Finslerian length of tangent vectors. By the fundamental result of the theory \cite{V5} such a linear connection must be metrical with respect to the averaged Riemannian metric given by integration of the Riemann-Finsler metric on the indicatrix hypersurfaces. Therefore the linear connection is uniquely determined by its torsion tensor. If the torsion is zero then we have a classical Berwald manifolds. Otherwise the torsion is a strange data we need to express in term…
A linear connection on a Finsler manifold is called compatible to the metric if its parallel transports preserve the Finslerian length of tangent vectors. Generalized Berwald manifolds are Finsler manifolds equipped with a compatible linear connection. Since the compatibility to the Finslerian metric does not imply the unicity of the linear connection in general, the first step of checking the existence of compatible linear connections on a Finsler manifold is to choose the best one to look for. A reasonable choice is introduced in \cite{V14} called the extremal compatible linear connection, w…
Generalized Lagrange-Weyl structures and compatible connections are introduced as a natural generalization of similar notions from Riemannian geometry. Exactly as in Riemannian case, the compatible connection is unique if certain symmetry conditions with respect to vertical and horizontal Christoffel symbols are imposed.
Symmetric connections that are compatible with semi-Riemannian metrics can be characterized using an existence result for an integral leaf of a (possibly non integrable) distribution. In this paper we give necessary and sufficient conditions for a left-invariant connection on a Lie group to be the Levi-Civita connection of some semi-Riemannian metric on the group. As a special case, we will consider constant connections in $\R^n$.
Recently, some concepts such as Hom-algebras, Hom-Lie algebras, Hom-Lie admissible algebras, Hom-coalgebras are studied and some of classical properties of algebras and some geometric objects are extended on them. In this paper by recall the concept of Hom-$ρ$-commutative algebras, we intend to develop some of the most classical results in Riemannian geometry such as metric, connection, torsion tensor, curvature tensor on it and also we discuss about differential operators and get some results of differential calculus using them. The notions of symplectic structures and Poisson structures are …
In this paper, we study the existence of Poisson metrics on flat vector bundles over noncompact Riemannian manifolds and discuss related consequence, specially on the applications in Higgs bundles, towards generalizing Corlette-Donaldson-Hitchin-Simpson's nonabelian Hodge correspondence to noncompact Kähler manifolds setting.
We study pairs of structures, such as the Poisson-Nijenhuis structures, on the tangent bundle of a manifold or, more generally, on a Lie algebroid or a Courant algebroid. These composite structures are defined by two of the following, a closed 2-form, a Poisson bivector or a Nijenhuis tensor, with suitable compatibility assumptions. We establish the relationships between such composite structures. We then show that the non-degenerate Monge-Ampère structures on 2-dimensional manifolds satisfying an integrability condition provide numerous examples of such structures, while in the case of 3-dime…
In this paper we study quotients of Lie algebroids and groupoids endowed with compatible differential forms. We identify Lie theoretic conditions under which such forms become basic and characterize the induced forms on the quotients. We apply these results to describe generalized quotient and reduction processes for (twisted) Poisson and Dirac structures, as well as to their integration by (twisted, pre-)symplectic groupoids. In particular, we recover and generalize several known results concerning Poisson reduction.
Motivated by Wick-rotations of pseudo-Riemannian manifolds, we study real geometric invariant theory (GIT) and compatible representations. We extend some of the results from earlier works \cite{W2,W1}, in particular, we give some sufficient as well as necessary conditions for when pseudo-Riemannian manifolds are Wick-rotatable to other signatures. For arbitrary signatures, we consider a Wick-rotatable pseudo-Riemannian manifold with closed $O(p,q)$-orbits, and thus generalise the existence condition found in \cite{W1}. Using these existence conditions we also derive an invariance theorem for W…
We show that the pseudo-Riemannian geometry of submanifolds can be formulated in terms of higher order multi-linear maps. In particular, we obtain a Poisson bracket formulation of almost (para-)Kähler geometry.
Intuition drawn from quantum mechanics and geometric optics raises the following long-standing question: can the length spectrum of a closed Riemannian manifold be recovered from its Laplace spectrum? The Poisson relation states that for any closed Riemannian manifold $(M,g)$ the singular support of the trace of its wave group---a spectrally determined tempered distribution---is contained in the set consisting of $\pm τ$, where $τ$ is the length of a smoothly closed geodesic in $(M,g)$. Therefore, in cases where the Poisson relation is an equality, we obtain a method for retrieving the length …
On a Poisson manifold endowed with a Riemannian metric we will construct a vector field that generalizes the double bracket vector field defined on semi-simple Lie algebras. On a regular symplectic leaf we will construct a generalization of the normal metric such that the above vector field restricted to the symplectic leaf is a gradient vector field with respect to this metric.
We consider surfaces embedded in a Riemannian manifold of arbitrary dimension and prove that many aspects of their differential geometry can be expressed in terms of a Poisson algebraic structure on the space of smooth functions of the surface. In particular, we find algebraic formulas for Weingarten's equations, the complex structure and the Gaussian curvature.
We investigate nonintegrable Riemannian geometries modelled after certain symmetric spaces related to the Freudenthal-Tits Magic Square. The collection of four such structures found by Nurowski is extended by further eight. A focus is given to those admitting a compatible connection with completely skew torsion.
Let N be a nilpotent Lie group and let S be an invariant geometric structure on N (cf. symplectic, complex or hypercomplex). We define a left invariant Riemannian metric on N compatible with S to be "minimal", if it minimizes the norm of the invariant part of the Ricci tensor among all compatible metrics with the same scalar curvature. We prove that minimal metrics (if any) are unique up to isometry and scaling, they develop soliton solutions for the invariant Ricci flow and are characterized as the critical points of a natural variational problem. The uniqueness allows us to distinguish geome…
We prove that the Riemannian geometry of almost Kähler manifolds can be expressed in terms of the Poisson algebra of smooth functions on the manifold. Subsequently, Kähler-Poisson algebras are introduced, and it is shown that a corresponding purely algebraic theory of geometry and curvature can be developed. As an illustration of the new concepts we give an algebraic proof of the statement that a bound on the (algebraic) Ricci curvature induces a bound on the eigenvalues of the (algebraic) Laplace operator, in analogy with the well-known theorem in Riemannian geometry. As the correspondence be…
Let (N,g) be a nilpotent Lie group endowed with an invariant geometric structure (cf. symplectic, complex, hypercomplex or any of their `almost' versions). We define a left invariant Riemannian metric on N compatible with g to be minimal, if it minimizes the norm of the invariant part of the Ricci tensor among all compatible metrics with the same scalar curvature. We prove that minimal metrics (if any) are unique up to isometry and scaling, they develop soliton solutions for the `invariant Ricci' flow and are characterized as the critical points of a natural variational problem. The uniqueness…
