Let $G$ be a reductive Lie group, $\g$ its Lie algebra, and $M$ a $G$-manifold. Suppose $\A_h(M)$ is a $\U_h(\g)$-equivariant quantization of the function algebra $\A(M)$ on $M$. We develop a method of building $\U_h(\g)$-equivariant quantization on $G$-orbits in $M$ as quotients of $\A_h(M)$. We are concerned with those quantizations that may be simultaneously represented as subalgebras in $\U^*_h(\g)$ and quotients of $\A_h(M)$. It turns out that they are in one-to-one correspondence with characters of the algebra $\A_h(M)$. We specialize our approach to the situation $\g=gl(n,\C)$, $M=\End(\C^n)$, and $\A_h(M)$ the so-called reflection equation algebra associated with the representation of $\U_h(\g)$ on $\C^n$. For this particular case, we present in an explicit form all possible quantizations of this type; they cover symmetric and bisymmetric orbits. We build a two-parameter deformation family and obtain, as a limit case, the $\U(\g)$-equivariant quantization of the Kirillov-Kostant-Souriau bracket on symmetric orbits.
We generalize the results of [KMST] concerning equivariant quantization by means of Verma modules $M(λ)$ for generic weight $λ$ to the case of general $λ$. We consider the relationship between the Shapovalov form on an irreducible highest weight module of a semisimple complex Lie algebra, fusion elements, and equivariant quantization. We also discuss some limiting properties of fusion elements. [KMST] E. Karolinsky and A. Stolin, Dynamical Yang-Baxter equations, quasi-Poisson homogeneous spaces, and quantization, Lett. Math. We present an explicit $\U_h\bigl(gl(n,\C)\bigr)$-equivariant quantization on coadjoint orbits of $GL(n,\C)$. It forms a two-parameter family quantizing the Poisson pair of the reflection equation and Kirillov-Kostant-Souriau brackets.
We prove that the reflection equation (RE) algebra $\La_R$ associated with a finite dimensional representation of a quasitriangular Hopf algebra $\Ha$ is twist-equivalent to the corresponding Faddeev-Reshetikhin-Takhtajan (FRT) algebra. We show that $\La_R$ is a module algebra over the twisted tensor square \twist{$\Ha$}{$\Ha$} and the double $\D(\Ha)$. We define FRT- and RE-type algebras and apply them to the problem of equivariant quantization on Lie groups and matrix spaces.
We extend projectively equivariant quantization and symbol calculus to symbols of pseudo-differential operators. An explicit expression in terms of hypergeometric functions with noncommutative arguments is given. Some examples are worked out, one of them yielding a quantum length element on $S^3$.
Using an equivariant version of Connes' Thom Isomorphism,w}e prove that equivariant $K$-theory is invariant under strict deformation quantization for a compact Lie group action.
We consider a class of homogeneous manifolds including all semisimple coadjoint orbits. We describe manifolds of that class admitting deformation q uantizations equivariant under the action of $G$ and the corresponding quantum group. We also classify Poisson brackets relating to such quantizations.
By computing certain cohomology of Vect(M) of smooth vector fields we prove that on 1-dimensional manifolds M there is no quantization map intertwining the action of non-projective embeddings of the Lie algebra sl(2) into the Lie algebra Vect(M). Contrariwise, for projective embeddings sl(2)-equivariant quantization exists.
The existence and uniqueness of quantizations that are equivariant with respect to conformal and projective Lie algebras of vector fields were recently obtained by Duval, Lecomte and Ovsienko. In order to do so, they computed spectra of some Casimir operators. We give an explicit formula for those spectra in the general framework of IFFT-algebras classified by Kobayashi and Nagano. We also define tree-like subsets of eigenspaces of those operators in which eigenvalues can be compared to show the existence of IFFT-equivariant quantizations. We apply our results to prove existence and uniqueness…
Let g be a Lie bialgebra and let V be a finite-dimensional g-module. We study deformations of the symmetric algebra of V which are equivariant with respect to an action of the quantized enveloping algebra of g. In particular we investigate such quantizations obtained from the quantization of certain Lie bialgebra structures on the semidirect product of g and V. We classify these structure in the important special case, when g is complex, simple, with quasitriangular Lie bialgebra structure and V is a simple g-module. We then introduce more a general notion, co-Poisson module algebras and their…
We prove the existence and the uniqueness of a conformally equivariant symbol calculus and quantization on any conformally flat pseudo-Riemannian manifold $(M,\rg)$. In other words, we establish a canonical isomorphism between the spaces of polynomials on $T^*M$ and of differential operators on tensor densities over $M$, both viewed as modules over the Lie algebra $\so(p+1,q+1)$ where $p+q=\dim(M)$. This quantization exists for generic values of the weights of the tensor densities and compute the critical values of the weights yielding obstructions to the existence of such an isomorphism. In t…
The quantization of vector bundles is defined. Examples are constructed for the well controlled case of equivariant vector bundles over compact coadjoint orbits. (Coadjoint orbits are symplectic spaces with a transitive, semisimple symmetry group.) In preparation for the main result, the quantization of coadjoint orbits is discussed in detail. This subject should not be confused with the quantization of the total space of a vector bundle such as the cotangent bundle.
Let $(M,g)$ be a pseudo-Riemannian manifold and $F_λ(M)$ the space of densities of degree $λ$ on $M$. We study the space $D^2_{λ,μ}(M)$ of second-order differential operators from $F_λ(M)$ to $F_μ(M)$. If $(M,g)$ is conformally flat with signature $p-q$, then $D^2_{λ,μ}(M)$ is viewed as a module over the group of conformal transformations of $M$. We prove that, for almost all values of $μ-λ$, the $O(p+1,q+1)$-modules $D^2_{λ,μ}(M)$ and the space of symbols (i.e., of second-order polynomials on $T^*M$) are canonically isomorphic. This yields a conformally equivariant quantization for quadratic …
This article is a survey of recent work of the authors developing a new approach to quantization based on the equivariance with respect to some Lie group of symmetries. Examples are provided by conformal and projective differential geometry: given a smooth manifold M endowed with a flat conformal/projective structure, we establish a canonical isomorphism between the space of symmetric contravariant tensor fields on M and the space of differential operators on M. This leads to a notion of conformally/projectively invariant star-product on $T^*M$.
We construct equivariant quantization of a special family of Levi conjugacy classes of the complex orthogonal group $SO(N)$, whose stabilizer contains a Cartesian factor $SO(2)\times SO(P)$, $1\leqslant P<N$, $P\equiv N \mod 2$.
Le $X$ be a $C^\infty$-manifold and $\g$ be a finite dimensional Lie algebra acting freely on $X$. Let $r \in \ve^2(\g)$ be such that $Z=[r,r] \in \ve^3(\g)^\g$. In this paper we prove that every quasi-Poisson $(\g,Z)$-manifold can be quantized. This is a generalization of the existence of a twist quantization of coboundary Lie bialgebras (\cite{EH}) in the case $X=G$ (where $G$ is the simply connected Lie group corresponding to $\g$). We deduce our result from a generalized formality theorem. In the case Z=0, we get a new proof of the existence of (equivariant) formality theorem and so (equiv…
Let $G$ be the complex general linear group and $g$ its Lie algebra equipped with a factorizable Lie bialgebra structure; let $U_h$ be the corresponding quantum group. We construct explicit $U_h$-equivariant quantization of Poisson orbit bundles $O_λ\to O_μ$ in $gl(n)*$.
Let $\XR$ be a (generalized) flag manifold of a non-compact real semisimple Lie group $\GR$, where $\XR$ and $\GR$ have complexifications X and G. We investigate the problem of constructing a graded star product on $Pol(T^*\XR)$ which corresponds to a $\GR$-equivariant quantization of symbols into smooth differential operators acting on half-densities on $\XR$. We show that any solution is algebraic in that it restricts to a G-equivariant graded star product star on the algebraic part R of $Pol(T^*\XR)$. We construct, when R is generated by the momentum functions $μ^x$ for G, a preferred choic…
Let $\mathrm G$ be a connected semi-simple compact Lie group and for $0<q<1$, let $(\mathbb{C}[\mathrm{G]_q}],Δ_q)$ be the Jimbo-Drinfeld $q$-deformation of $\mathrm G$. We show that the $C^*$-completions of $\mathrm{C}[\mathrm{G]_q}$ are isomorphic for all values of $q$. Moreover, these isomorphisms are equivariant with respect to the right-action of the maximal torus.
Let $G$ be a simple complex factorizable Poisson Lie algebraic group. Let $\U_\hbar(\g)$ be the corresponding quantum group. We study $\U_\hbar(\g)$-equivariant quantization $\C_\hbar[G]$ of the affine coordinate ring $\C[G]$ along the Semenov-Tian-Shansky bracket. For a simply connected group $G$ we prove an analog of the Kostant-Richardson theorem stating that $\C_\hbar[G]$ is a free module over its center.
Let $G$ be a simple complex classical group and $\g$ its Lie algebra. Let $\U_\hbar(\g)$ be the Drinfeld-Jimbo quantization of the universal enveloping algebra $\U(\g)$. We construct an explicit $\U_\hbar(\g)$-equivariant quantization of conjugacy classes of $G$ with Levi subgroups as the stabilizers.
Let $\mathfrak g$ be a finite dimensional split semisimple Lie algebra and $λ$ a weight of $\mathfrak g$. Let $F$ be the algebra of quantized regular functions on the connected simply connected group $G$ corresponding to $\mathfrak g$. In the present paper we introduce a certain subspace $F'$ of $F$ (which is not necessary a subalgebra of $F$) and endow it with an associative $\star$-product using the so-called reduced fusion element. We prove that the algebra $(F',\star)$ is isomorphic to $(L(λ))_{fin}$, where $L(λ)$ is the irreducible highest weight $\check{U}_q\mathfrak g$-module and "$fin$…
We consider a class of homogeneous manifolds over a simple Lie group which appears in the problem of classification of homogeneous manifolds with reductive subgroups of maximal rank as stabilizer of a point. We prove that any manifold of this class possesses a Poisson bracket admitting a quantization invariant (equivariant) with respect to the corresponding quantum group.
Given a compact simple Lie group G and a primitive degree 3 twist h, we define a monoidal category C(G, h) with a May structure. An object in the category C(G, h) is a pair (X, f), where X is a compact G-manifold and f a smooth G-map from X to G with respect to the conjugation action of G on itself. Such an object determines a module, the equivariant twisted K-homology K^G(X, f^*(h)), for the Verlinde algebra, termed a Verlinde module, where the module action is induced by the G-action on X. In order to understand which objects in C(G, h) can be quantized, we define the closely related monoida…
In this thesis we give obstructions for Drinfel'd twist deformation quantization on several classes of symplectic manifolds. Motivated from this quantization procedure, we further construct a noncommutative Cartan calculus on any braided commutative algebra, as well as an equivariant Levi-Civita covariant derivative for any non-degenerate equivariant metric. This generalizes and unifies the Cartan calculus on a smooth manifold and the Cartan calculus on twist star product algebras. We prove that the Drinfel'd functor leads to equivalence classes in braided commutative geometry and commutes wit…
We apply the modern Batalin-Vilkovisky quantization techniques of Costello and Gwilliam to noncommutative field theories in the finite-dimensional case of fuzzy spaces. We further develop a generalization of this framework to theories that are equivariant under a triangular Hopf algebra symmetry, which in particular leads to quantizations of finite-dimensional analogs of the field theories proposed recently through the notion of `braided $L_\infty$-algebras'. The techniques are illustrated by computing perturbative correlation functions for scalar and Chern-Simons theories on the fuzzy $2$-sph…
We show that the local observables of the curved beta gamma system encode the sheaf of chiral differential operators using the machinery of the book "Factorization algebras in quantum field theory", by Kevin Costello and the second author, which combines renormalization, the Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism, and factorization algebras. Our approach is in the spirit of deformation quantization via Gelfand-Kazhdan formal geometry. We begin by constructing a quantization of the beta gamma system with an n-dimensional formal disk as the target. There is an obstruction to quantizing equivariantly with …
We discuss the Quantum-Koszul method for constructing star products on reduced phase spaces in the symplectic, regular case. It is shown that the reduction method proposed by Kowalzig, Neumaier and Pflaum for cotangent bundles is a special case of the Quantum-Koszul method. We give sufficient conditions that reduction by stages is possible in the Quantum-Koszul framework and show that the star product obtained by two steps is identical to that obtained by one step. In order to do so, we prove an equivariant version of the compatible tubular neighborhood theorem.
The quantum group $SU_q(\ell+1)$ has a canonical action on the odd dimensional sphere $S_q^{2\ell+1}$. All odd spectral triples acting on the $L_2$ space of $S_q^{2\ell+1}$ and equivariant under this action have been characterized. This characterization then leads to the construction of an optimum family of equivariant spectral triples having nontrivial $K$-homology class. These generalize the results of Chakraborty & Pal for $SU_q(2)$.
We develop a theory of equivariant factorization algebras on varieties with an action of a connected algebraic group $G$, extending the definitions of Francis-Gaitsgory [FG] and Beilinson-Drinfeld [BD1] to the equivariant setting. We define an equivariant analogue of factorization homology, valued in modules over $\text{H}^\bullet_G(\text{pt})$, and in the case $G=(\mathbb{C}^\times)^n$ we prove an equivariant localization theorem for factorization homology, analogous to the classical localization theorem [AtB]. We establish a relationship between $\mathbb{C}^\times$ equivariant factorization …
Motivated by topological quantum field theory, we investigate the geometric aspects of unitary 2-representations of finite groups on 2-Hilbert spaces, and their 2-characters. We show how the basic ideas of geometric quantization are `categorified' in this context: just as representations of groups correspond to equivariant line bundles, 2-representations of groups correspond to equivariant gerbes. We also show how the 2-character of a 2-representation can be made functorial with respect to morphisms of 2-representations. Under the geometric correspondence, the 2-character of a 2-representation…
We show that two approaches to equivariant strict deformation quantization of C*-algebras by actions of negatively curved Kahlerian Lie groups, one based on oscillatory integrals and the other on quantizations maps defined by dual 2-cocycles, are equivalent.
Based on work done by Bonechi, Cattaneo, Felder and Zabzine on Poisson sigma models, we formally show that Kontsevich's star product can be obtained from the twisted convolution algebra of the geometric quantization of a Lie 2-groupoid, one which integrates the Poisson structure. We show that there is an analogue of the Poisson sigma model which is valued in Lie 1-groupoids and which can often be defined non-perturbatively; it can be obtained by symplectic reduction using the quantization of the Lie 2-groupoid. We call these groupoid-valued sigma models and we argue that, when they exist, they…
We consider the algebra $A$ of bounded operators on $L^2(\mathbb{R}^n)$ generated by quantizations of isometric affine canonical transformations. The algebra $A$ includes as subalgebras all noncommutative tori and toric orbifolds. We define the spectral triple $(A, H, D)$ with $H=L^2(\mathbb R^n, Λ(\mathbb R^n))$ and the Euler operator $D$, a first order differential operator of index $1$. We show that this spectral triple has simple dimension spectrum: For every operator $B$ in the algebra $Ψ(A,H,D)$ generated by the Shubin type pseudodifferential operators and the elements of $A$, the zeta f…
