We develop some ideas of Morrison and Plesser and formulate a precise mathematical conjecture which has close relations to toric mirror symmetry. Our conjecture, we call it Toric Residue Mirror Conjecture, claims that the generating functions of intersection numbers of divisors on a special sequence of simplicial toric varieties are power series expansions of some rational functions obtained as toric residues. We expect that this conjecture holds true for all Gorenstein toric Fano varieties associated with reflexive polytopes and give some evidences for that. The proposed conjecture suggests a simple method for computing Yukawa couplings for toric mirror Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces without solving systems of differential equations. We make several explicit computations for Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces in weighted projective spaces and in products of projective spaces.
Using Cayley trick, we define the notions of mixed toric residues and mixed Hessians associated with $r$ Laurent polynomials $f_1,...,f_r$.We conjecture that the values of mixed toric residues on the mixed Hessians are determined by mixed volumes of the Newton polytopes of $f_1,...,f_r$. Using mixed toric residues, we generalize our Toric Residue Mirror Conjecture to the case of Calabi-Yau complete intersections in Gorenstein toric Fano varieties obtained from nef-partitions of reflexive polytopes.
We generalize the toric residue mirror conjecture of Batyrev and Materov to not necessarily reflexive polytopes. Using this generalization we prove the toric residue mirror conjecture for Calabi-Yau complete intersections in Gorenstein toric Fano varieties.
We derive the combinatorial representations of Picard group and deformation space of anti-canonical hypersurfaces of a toric variety using techniques in toric geometry. The mirror cohomology correspondence in the context of mirror symmetry is established for a pair of Calabi-Yau (CY) ${\sf n}$-spaces in toric varieties defined by reflexive polytopes for an arbitrary dimension ${\sf n}$. We further identify the Kahler cone of the toric variety and degeneration cone of CY hypersurfaces, by which the Kahler cone and degeneration cone for a mirror CY pair are interchangeable under mirror symmetry.…
Building on our earlier work on toric residues and reduction, we give a proof for the mixed toric residue conejecture of Batyrev and Materov. We simplify and streamline our technique of tropical degenerations, which allows one to interpolate between two localization principles: one appearing in the intersection theory toric quotients and the other in the calculus of toric residues. This quickly leads to the proof of the conjecture, which gives a closed form for the summation of a generating series whose coefficients are certain variants of the "numbers" of rational curves on toric complete int…
We study residues on a complete toric variety X, which are defined in terms of the homogeneous coordinate ring of X. We first prove a global transformation law for toric residues. When the fan of the toric variety has a simplicial cone of maximal dimension, we can produce an element with toric residue equal to 1. We also show that in certain situations, the toric residue is an isomorphism on an appropriate graded piece of the quotient ring. When X is simplicial, we prove that the toric residue is a sum of local residues. In the case of equal degrees, we also show how to represent X as a quotie…
We use toric geometry to study open string mirror symmetry on compact Calabi-Yau manifolds. For a mirror pair of toric branes on a mirror pair of toric hypersurfaces we derive a canonical hypergeometric system of differential equations, whose solutions determine the open/closed string mirror maps and the partition functions for spheres and discs. We define a linear sigma model for the brane geometry and describe a correspondence between dual toric polyhedra and toric brane geometries. The method is applied to study examples with obstructed and classically unobstructed brane moduli at various p…
Motivated by recent works on localizations in A-twisted gauged linear sigma models, we discuss a generalization of toric residue mirror symmetry to complete intersections in Grassmannians.
We present an explicit formula for computing toric residues as a quotient of two determinants, a la Macaulay, where the numerator is a minor of the denominator. We also give an irreducible representation of toric residues by extending the theory of subresultants to monomials of critical degree in the homogeneous coordinate ring of the corresponding toric variety.
We develop techniques for computing the equivariant local mirror symmetry of curves, i.e. mirror symmetry for O(k)+O(-2-k) over P^1 for k greater than 0. We also describe related methods for dealing with mirror symmetry of non-nef toric varieties. The basic tools are equivariant I functions and their Birkhoff factorization.
In ${\bf C}^{n+1}$, one can show that the residue of $n+1$ homogeneous forms of the same degree equals the integral of a certain $(n,n)$ form over ${\bf P}^n$. Furthermore, the Jacobian of the forms has nonzero residue equal to a certain intersection number. In this paper, we generalize these results to an arbitrary projective toric variety. In particular, we define a toric version of the Jacobian and show that it has the correct properties, and we give various integral formulas for the toric residue. We also review some commutative algebra results of Batyrev and Danilov and discuss the relati…
Consider an n-dimensional projective toric variety X defined by a convex lattice polytope P. David Cox introduced the toric residue map given by a collection of n+1 divisors Z_0,...,Z_n on X. In the case when the Z_i are T-invariant divisors whose sum is X\T the toric residue map is the multiplication by an integer number. We show that this number is the degree of a certain map from the boundary of the polytope P to the boundary of a simplex. This degree can be computed combinatorially. We also study radical monomial ideals I of the homogeneous coordinate ring of X. We give a necessary and suf…
We consider regular Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces in $N$-dimensional smooth toric varieties. On such a hypersurface in the neighborhood of the large complex structure limit point we construct a fibration over a sphere $S^{N-1}$ whose generic fibers are tori $T^{N-1}$. Also for certain one-parameter families of such hypersurfaces we show that the monodromy transformation is induced by a translation of the $T^{N-1}$ fibration by a section. Finally we construct a dual fibration and provide some evidence that it describes the mirror family.
In this paper, we extend our geometrical derivation of expansion coefficients of mirror maps by localization computation to the case of toric manifolds with two Kähler forms. Especially, we take Hirzebruch surfaces F_{0}, F_{3} and Calabi-Yau hypersurface in weighted projective space P(1,1,2,2,2) as examples. We expect that our results can be easily generalized to arbitrary toric manifold.
Resultants, Jacobians and residues are basic invariants of multivariate polynomial systems. We examine their interrelations in the context of toric geometry. The global residue in the torus, studied by Khovanskii, is the sum over local Grothendieck residues at the zeros of $n$ Laurent polynomials in $n$ variables. Cox introduced the related notion of the toric residue relative to $n+1$ divisors on an $n$-dimensional toric variety. We establish denominator formulas in terms of sparse resultants for both the toric residue and the global residue in the torus. A byproduct is a determinantal formul…
We formulate a conjecture which describes the Fukaya category of an exact Lefschetz fibration defined by a Laurent polynomial in two variables in terms of a pair consisting of a consistent dimer model and a perfect matching on it. We prove this conjecture in some cases, and obtain homological mirror symmetry for quotient stacks of toric del Pezzo surfaces by finite subgroups of the torus as a corollary.
We argue how boundary B-type Landau-Ginzburg models based on matrix factorizations can be used to compute exact superpotentials for intersecting D-brane configurations on compact Calabi-Yau spaces. In this paper, we consider the dependence of open-string, boundary changing correlators on bulk moduli. This determines, via mirror symmetry, non-trivial disk instanton corrections in the A-model. As crucial ingredient we propose a differential equation that involves matrix analogs of Saito's higher residue pairings. As example, we compute from this for the elliptic curve certain quantum products m_…
We introduce a new version of 3d mirror symmetry for toric stacks, inspired by a 3d $\mathcal{N} = 2$ abelian mirror symmetry construction in physics. Given some toric data, we introduce the $K$-theoretic $I$-function with effective level structure for the associated toric stack. When a particular stability condition is chosen, it restricts to the $I$-function for the particular toric GIT quotient. The mirror of a toric stack is defined by the Gale dual of the original toric data. We then proved the mirror conjecture that the $I$-functions of a mirror pair coincide, under the mirror map, which…
The paper consist of two parts. In the first part we introduce flags of lattices and associated injective systems of (non-normal) cones and projective systems of (non-normal) affine toric varieties. We study the associated field of multidimensional Laurent power series. In the second part we use the resolution of singularities techniques to study the geometry near a complete flag of subvarieties and the Parshin's residues. The first part plays the role of a standard coordinate neighborhood for Parshin's points.
We give a precise relation between the mirror transformation and the Seidel elements for weak Fano toric Deligne-Mumford stacks. Our result generalizes the corresponding result for toric varieties proved by González and Iritani in \cite{GI}.
For an arbitrary smooth n-dimensional Fano variety $X$ we introduce the notion of a small toric degeneration. Using small toric degenerations of Fano n-folds $X$, we propose a general method for constructing mirrors of Calabi-Yau complete intersections in $X$. Our mirror construction is based on a generalized monomial-divisor mirror correspondence which can be used for computing Gromov-Witten invariants of rational curves via specializations of GKZ-hypergeometric series.
Generalizing the notions of reflexive polytopes and nef-partitions of Batyrev and Borisov, we propose a mirror symmetry construction for Calabi-Yau complete intersections in Fano toric varieties.
We present a construction of noncommutative double mirrors to complete intersections in toric varieties. This construction unifies existing sporadic examples and explains the underlying combinatorial and physical reasons for their existence.
The toric residue is a map depending on n+1 semi-ample divisors on a complete toric variety of dimension n. It appears in a variety of contexts such as sparse polynomial systems, mirror symmetry, and GKZ hypergeometric functions. In this paper we investigate the problem of finding an explicit element whose toric residue is equal to one. Such an element is shown to exist if and only if the associated polytopes are essential. We reduce the problem to finding a collection of partitions of the lattice points in the polytopes satisfying a certain combinatorial property. We use this description to s…
We construct a compactification of the moduli of toric pairs by using ideas from mirror symmetry. The secondary fan $Σ(Q)$ is used in [Ale02] to parametrize degenerations of toric pairs. It is also used in [CLS11] to control the variation of GIT. We verify the prediction of mirror symmetry that $Σ(Q)$ for the moduli of toric pairs is equal to the Mori fan of the relative minimal models of the mirror family. As a result, we give an explicit construction of the compactification $\mathscr{T}_Q$ of the moduli of toric pairs which is the normalization of the compactification in [Ale02] and [Ols08].
We use the mirror theorem for toric Deligne-Mumford stacks, proved recently by the authors and by Cheong-Ciocan-Fontanine-Kim, to compute genus-zero Gromov-Witten invariants of a number of toric orbifolds and gerbes. We prove a mirror theorem for a class of complete intersections in toric Deligne-Mumford stacks, and use this to compute genus-zero Gromov-Witten invariants of an orbifold hypersurface.
When studying mirror symmetry in the context of K3 surfaces, the hyperkaehler structure of K3 makes the notion of exchanging Kaehler and complex moduli ambiguous. On the other hand, the metric is not renormalized due to the higher amount of supersymmetry of the underlying superconformal field theory. Thus one can define a natural mapping from the classical K3 moduli space to the moduli space of conformal field theories. Apart from the generalization of mirror constructions for Calabi-Yau threefolds, there is a formulation of mirror symmetry in terms of orthogonal lattices and global moduli spa…
Hille and Perling associate to every cyclic full strongly exceptional sequence of line bundles on a toric weak Fano surface a toric system, which defines a new toric surface. In this note we interprete this construction as an instance of mirror symmetry and extend it to a duality on the set toric weak Fano surfaces equiped with a cyclic full strongly exceptional sequence.
We prove the homological mirror conjecture for toric del Pezzo surfaces. In this case, the mirror object is a regular function on an algebraic torus. We show that the derived Fukaya category of this mirror coincides with the derived category of coherent sheaves on the original manifold.
The Remodeling Conjecture proposed by Bouchard-Klemm-Marino-Pasquetti [arXiv:0709.1453, arXiv:0807.0597] relates all genus open and closed Gromov-Witten invariants of a semi-projective toric Calabi-Yau 3-manifolds/3-orbifolds to the Eynard-Orantin invariants of the mirror curve of the toric Calabi-Yau 3-fold. In this paper, we present a proof of the Remodeling Conjecture for open-closed orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants of an arbitrary affine toric Calabi-Yau 3-orbifold relative to a framed Aganagic-Vafa Lagrangian brane. This can be viewed as an all genus open-closed mirror symmetry for affin…
The paper contains a proof that elliptic genus of a Calabi-Yau manifold is a Jacobi form, finds in which dimensions the elliptic genus is determined by the Hodge numbers and shows that elliptic genera of a Calabi-Yau hypersurface in a toric variety and its mirror coincide up to sign. The proof of the mirror property is based on the extension of elliptic genus to Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces in toric varieties with Gorenstein singularities.
This paper explores homological mirror symmetry for weighted blowups of toric varieties. It will be shown that both the A-model and B-model categories have natural semiorthogonal decompositions. An explicit equivalence of the right orthogonal categories will be shown for the case of toric surfaces.
The Cox construction presents a toric variety as a quotient of affine space by a torus. The category of coherent sheaves on the corresponding stack thus has an evident description as invariants in a quotient of the category of modules over a polynomial ring. Here we give the mirror to this description, and in particular, a clean new proof of mirror symmetry for smooth toric stacks.
We study aspects related to Kontsevich's homological mirror symmetry conjecture in the case of Calabi-Yau complete intersections in toric varieties. In a 1996 lecture at Rutgers University, Kontsevich indicated how his proposal implies that the groups of automorphisms of the two types of categories involved in the homological mirror symmetry conjecture should also be identified. Our main results provide an explicit geometric construction of the correspondence between the automorphisms of the two types of categories.
We give a new proof of Givental's mirror theorem for toric manifolds using shift operators of equivariant parameters. The proof is almost tautological: it gives an A-model construction of the I-function and the mirror map. It also works for non-compact or non-semipositive toric manifolds.
We prove a Givental-style mirror theorem for toric Deligne--Mumford stacks X. This determines the genus-zero Gromov--Witten invariants of X in terms of an explicit hypergeometric function, called the I-function, that takes values in the Chen--Ruan orbifold cohomology of X.
This paper continues the study of two examples of extremal transitions between families of Calabi-Yau threefolds. In a previous paper we suggested that the "mirror transition" between mirror families predicted by Morrison could be achieved naturally by combining a toric morphism with the Batyrev-Borisov construction. This was carried out for a particular example of a conifold transition. In this paper we show that similar methods work for another extremal transition involving more complicated singularities. We also study how the resolution is related to geometry of the ambient toric varieties,…
We provide an enumerative meaning of the mirror maps for toric Calabi-Yau orbifolds in terms of relative Gromov-Witten invariants of the toric compactifications. As a consequence, we obtain an equality between relative Gromov-Witten invariants and open Gromov-Witten invariants. Therefore, the instanton corrected mirrors for toric Calabi-Yau orbifolds can be constructed using relative Gromov-Witten invariants.
We prove a generalized mirror conjecture for non-negative complete intersections in symplectic toric manifolds. Namely, we express solutions of the PDE system describing quantum cohomology of such a manifold in terms of suitable hypergeometric functions. Revision 03.03.97: we correct an error in Introduction.
In the case of toric varieties, we continue the pursuit of Kontsevich's fundamental insight, Homological Mirror Symmetry, by unifying it with the Mori program. We give a refined conjectural version of Homological Mirror Symmetry relating semi-orthogonal decompositions of the $B$-model on toric varieties to semi-orthogonal decompositions on the $A$-model on the mirror Landau-Ginzburg models. As evidence, we prove a new case of Homological Mirror Symmetry for a toric surface whose anticanonical bundle is not nef, namely a certain blow-up of $¶^2$ at three infinitesimally near points.
We find that for many Calabi-Yau threefolds with elliptic or genus one fibrations mirror symmetry factorizes between the fiber and the base of the fibration. In the simplest examples, the generic CY elliptic fibration over any toric base surface $B$ that supports an elliptic Calabi-Yau threefold has a mirror that is an elliptic fibration over a dual toric base surface $\tilde{B}$ that is related through toric geometry to the line bundle $-6K_B$. The Kreuzer-Skarke database includes all these examples and gives a wide range of other more complicated constructions where mirror symmetry also fact…
We state two conjectures that together allow one to describe the set of smoothing components of a Gorenstein toric affine 3-fold in terms of a combinatorially defined and easily studied set of Laurent polynomials called 0-mutable polynomials. We explain the origin of the conjectures in mirror symmetry and present some of the evidence.
We study homological mirror symmetry for toric varieties, exploring the relationship between various Fukaya-Seidel categories which have been employed for constructing the mirror to a toric variety. In particular, we realize tropical Lagrangian sections as objects of a partially wrapped category and construct a Lagrangian correspondence mirror to the inclusion of a toric divisor. As a corollary, we prove that tropical sections generate the Fukaya-Seidel category, completing a Floer-theoretic proof of homological mirror symmetry for projective toric varieties. In the course of the proof, we dev…
Let $X$ be a toric Del-Pezzo surface and let $Crit(W) \subset (\mathbb{C}^{\ast})^n$ be the solution scheme of the Landau-Ginzburg system of equations. Denote by $X^{\circ}$ the polar variety of $X$. Our aim in this work is to describe a map $L : Crit(W) \rightarrow Fuk_{trop}(X^{\circ})$ whose image under homological mirror symmetry corresponds to a full strongly exceptional collection of line bundles.
We construct and apply Strominger-Yau-Zaslow mirror transformations to understand the geometry of the mirror symmetry between toric Fano manifolds and Landau-Ginzburg models.
Given a smooth projective toric variety X, we construct an A-infinity category of Lagrangians with boundary on a level set of the Landau-Ginzburg mirror of X. We prove that this category is quasi-equivalent to the DG category of line bundles on X. This establishes part of the Homological Mirror Conjecture for toric varieties.
We propose a combinatorical duality for lattice polyhedra which conjecturally gives rise to the pairs of mirror symmetric families of Calabi-Yau complete intersections in toric Fano varieties with Gorenstein singularities. Our construction is a generalization of the polar duality proposed by Batyrev for the case of hypersurfaces.
Batyrev (et. al.) constructed a family of Calabi-Yau varieties using small toric degenerations of the full flag variety G/B. They conjecture this family to be mirror to generic anti-canonical hypersurfaces in G/B. Recently Alexeev and Brion, as a part of their work on toric degenerations of spherical varieties, have constructed many degenerations of G/B. For any such degeneration we construct a family of varieties, which we prove coincides with Batyrev's in the small case. We prove that any two such families are birational, thus proving that mirror families are independent of the choice of deg…
We identify a certain universal Landau-Ginzburg model as a mirror of the big equivariant quantum cohomology of a (not necessarily compact or semipositive) toric manifold. The mirror map and the primitive form are constructed via Seidel elements and shift operators for equivariant quantum cohomology. Primitive forms in non-equivariant theory are identified up to automorphisms of the mirror.
We prove a version of homological mirror symmetry statement for toric Calabi-Yau $3$-orbifolds, thus extending arXiv:1604.06448 to the case of orbifolds under the mirror symmetry setting considered in arXiv:1604.07123. The B-model is the matrix factorization category for the toric Calabi-Yau $3$-orbifold with a superpotential; while the A-model is a topologically defined Fukaya-type category on its mirror curve.
We present here the K-theoretic version of mirror models of toric manifold. First, we recall the construction of cohomological mirrors for toric manifolds, i.e. representations of the toric hypergeometric functions from quantum cohomology theory by complex oscillating integrals. Then we repeat the construction in the K-theoretic situation, and obtain complex oscillating integrals representing q-hypergeometric functions from quantum K-theory of toric manifolds, bundles, and super-bundles. Finally, we examine the Lagrangian varieties parameterized by critical points of the phase functions of the…
Using the mirror theorem [CCIT15], we give a Landau-Ginzburg mirror description for the big equivariant quantum cohomology of toric Deligne-Mumford stacks. More precisely, we prove that the big equivariant quantum D-module of a toric Deligne-Mumford stack is isomorphic to the Saito structure associated to the mirror Landau-Ginzburg potential. We give a GKZ-style presentation of the quantum D-module, and a combinatorial description of quantum cohomology as a quantum Stanley-Reisner ring. We establish the convergence of the mirror isomorphism and of quantum cohomology in the big and equivariant …
It has been shown by Batyrev and Borisov that nef partitions of reflexive polyhedra can be used to construct mirror pairs of complete intersection Calabi--Yau manifolds in toric ambient spaces. We construct a number of such spaces and compute their cohomological data. We also discuss the relation of our results to complete intersections in weighted projective spaces and try to recover them as special cases of the toric construction. As compared to hypersurfaces, codimension two more than doubles the number of spectra with $h^{11}=1$. Alltogether we find 87 new (mirror pairs of) Hodge data, mai…
We prove that for a compact toric manifold whose anti-canonical divisor is numerically effective, the Lagrangian Floer superpotential defined by Fukaya-Oh-Ohto-Ono is equal to the superpotential written down by using the toric mirror map under a convergence assumption. This gives a method to compute open Gromov-Witten invariants using mirror symmetry.
The most fundamental example of mirror symmetry compares the Fermat hypersurfaces in P^n and P^n/G, where G is a finite group that acts on P^n and preserves the Fermat hypersurface. We generalise this to hypersurfaces in Grassmannians, where the picture is richer and more complex. There is a finite group G that acts on the Grassmannian Gr(n,r) and preserves an appropriate Calabi-Yau hypersurface. We establish how mirror symmetry, toric degenerations, blow-ups and variation of GIT relate the Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces inside Gr(n,r) and Gr(n,r)/G. This allows us to describe a compactification of …
