We study the fillability (or embeddability) of $CR$ structures under the gauge-fixed Cartan flow. We prove that if the initial $CR$ structure is fillable with nowhere vanishing Tanaka-Webster curvature and free torsion, then it keeps having the same property after a short time. In the Appendix, we show the uniqueness of the solution to the gauge-fixed Cartan flow.
A geometric obstruction, the so called "plastikstufe", for a contact structure to not being fillable has been found by K. Niederkruger. This generalizes somehow the concept of overtwisted structure to dimensions higher than 3. This paper elaborates on the theory showing a big number of closed contact manifolds with a "plastikstufe". They are the first examples of non-fillable contact closed high-dimensional manifolds. In particular we show that $S^3 \times \prod_j Σ_{j}$, for $g(Σ_j)\geq 2$, possesses this kind of contact structure and so any connected sum with those manifolds also does it.
For certain real hypersurfaces in the projective space, of signature (1,n), we study the filling problem for small deformations of the CR structure (the other signatures being well understood). We characterize the deformations which are fillable, and prove that they have infinite codimension in the set of all CR structures. This result generalizes the cases of the 3-sphere and of signature (1,1) to higher dimension.
We give a bordism-theoretic characterisation of those closed almost contact (2q+1)-manifolds (with q > 2) which admit a Stein fillable contact structure. Our method is to apply Eliashberg's h-principle for Stein manifolds in the setting of Kreck's modified surgery. As an application, we show that any simply connected almost contact 7-manifold with torsion free second homotopy group is Stein fillable. We also discuss the Stein fillability of exotic spheres and examine subcritical Stein fillability.
We study the fillability (or embeddability) of 3-dimensional $CR$ structures under the geometric flows. Suppose we can solve a certain second order equation for the geometric quantity associated to the flow. Then we prove that if the initial $CR$ structure is fillable, then it keeps having the same property as long as the flow has a solution. We discuss the situation for the torsion flow and the Cartan flow. In the second part, we show that the above mentioned second order operator is used to express a tangency condition for the space of all fillable or embeddable $CR$ structures at one embedd…
We give a new Tian-Todorov lemma on deformations of CR-structures and use it to reprove the deformation unobstructedness of normal compact strongly pseudoconvex CR-manifold under the assumption of $d'd''$-lemma, more faithfully following Tian-Todorov's approach.
Let $X$ be a compact quotient of the product of the real Heisenberg group $H_{4m+1}$ of dimension $4m+1$ and the 3-dimensional real Euclidean space $\bR^3$. A left invariant hypercomplex structure on $H_{4m+1}\times \bR^3$ descends onto the compact quotient $X$. The space $X$ is a hyperholomorphic fibration of 4-tori over a $4m$-torus. We calculate the parameter space and obstructions to deformations of this hypercomplex structure on $X$. Using our calculations we show that all small deformations generate invariant hypercomplex structures on $X$ but not all of them arise from deformations of t…
In this paper, we study deformations of complex structures on Lie algebras and its associated deformations of Dolbeault cohomology classes. A complete deformation of complex structures is constructed in a way similar to the Kuranishi family. The extension isomorphism is shown to be valid in this case. As an application, we prove that given a family of left invariant deformations $\{M_t\}_{t\in B}$ of a compact complex manifold $M=(Γ\setminus G, J)$ where $G$ is a Lie group, $Γ$ a sublattice and $J$ a left invariant complex structure, the set of all $t\in B$ such that the Dolbeault cohomology o…
We consider deformations of left-invariant complex structures on simply connected semisimple compact Lie groups which are a priori non-invariant. Computing their cohomologies, we show that they are not actually biholomorphic to left-invariant (right-invariant) complex structures.
We construct a versal family of deformations of CR structures in five dimensions, using a differential complex closely related to the differential form complex introduced by Rumin for contact manifolds.
Necessary and sufficient conditions for some deformation algebras to provide formal Frobenius structures are given. Also, examples of formal Frobenius structures with fundamental tensor that is not of the deformation type and examples of symmetric non-metric connections are presented.
We shall develop a new deformation theory of geometric structures in terms of closed differential forms. This theory is a generalization of Kodaira -Spencer theory and further we obtain a criterion of unobstructed deformations. We apply this theory to certain geometric structures: Calabi-Yau, HyperKähler, $\G$ and $\Spin$ structures and show that these deformation spaces are smooth in a systematic way.
We study deformations of symplectic structures on a smooth manifold $M$ via the quasi-Poisson theory. By a fact, we can deform a given symplectic structure $ω$ to a new symplectic structure $ω_t$ parametrized by some element $t$ in $Λ^2\mathfrak{g}$, where $\mathfrak{g}$ is the Lie algebra of a Lie group $G$. Moreover, we can get a lot of concrete examples for the deformations of symplectic structures on the complex projective space and the complex Grassmannian.
We overview the properties of non-infinitesimal deformations of G2-structures on seven-manifolds, and in particular, focus on deformations that lie in the seven-dimensional representation of G2 and are thus defined by a vector. We then consider deformations from G2-structures with the torsion class having one-dimensional and seven-dimensional components (so-called conformally nearly parallel G2-manifolds) to G2-structures with just a one-dimensional torsion component (nearly parallel G2-manifolds). We find that deformations between such structures exist if and only if the metric is a particula…
In this paper we obtain a stability theorem of generalized Kahler structures with one pure spinor under small deformations of generalized complex structures. (This is analogous to the stability theorem of Kahler manifolds by Kodaira-Spencer.) We apply the stability theorem to a class of compact Kahler manifolds which admits deformations to generalized complex manifolds and obtain non-trivial generalized Kahler structures on Fano surfaces and toric Kahler manifolds. In particular, we show that holomorphic Poisson structures on a Kahler manifold induce deformations of generalized Kahler structur…
We describe the second order obstruction to deformation for nearly $G_2$ structures on compact manifolds. Building on work of B.Alexandrov and U.Semmelmann this allows proving rigidity under deformation for the proper nearly $G_2$ structure on the Aloff-Wallach space $N(1,1)$.
We study the infinitesimal deformations of a proper nearly parallel G_2-structure and prove that they are characterized by a certain first order differential equation. In particular we show that the space of infinitesimal deformations modulo the group of diffeomorphisms is isomorphic to a subspace of co-closed $Λ^3_{27}$-eigenforms of the Laplace operator for the eigenvalue 8 scal/21. We give a similar description for the space of infinitesimal Einstein deformations of a fixed nearly parallel G_2-structure. Moreover we show that there are no deformations on the squashed S^7 and on SO(5)/SO(3),…
It is shown that the space of infinitesimal deformations of 2k-Einstein structures is finite dimensional at compact non-flat space forms. Moreover, spherical space forms are shown to be rigid in the sense that they are isolated in the corresponding moduli space.
Periods of parallel exterior forms define natural coordinates on the deformation space of complete affine structures on the two-torus. These coordinates define a differentiable structure on this deformation space, under which it is diffeomorphic to $R^2$. The action of the mapping class group of $T^2$ is equivalent in these coordinates with the standard linear action of $\SL_2(Z)$ on $R^2$.
We study the space of nearly Kähler structures on compact 6-dimensional manifolds. In particular, we prove that the space of infinitesimal deformations of a strictly nearly Kähler structure (with scalar curvature scal) modulo the group of diffeomorphisms, is isomorphic to the space of primitive co-closed (1,1)-eigenforms of the Laplace operator for the eigenvalue 2scal/5.
The group action which defines the moduli problem for the deformation space of flat affine structures on the two-torus is the action of the affine group $\Aff(2)$ on $\bbR^2$. Since this action has non-compact stabiliser $\GL(2,\bbR)$, the underlying locally homogeneous geometry is highly non-Riemannian. In this article, we describe the deformation space of all flat affine structures on the two-torus. In this context interesting phenomena arise in the topology of the deformation space, which, for example, is \emph{not} a Hausdorff space. This contrasts with the case of constant curvature metri…
We study a class of continuous deformations of branched complex projective structures on closed surfaces of genus $g\geq 2$, which preserve the holonomy representation of the structure and the order of the branch points. In the case of non-elementary holonomy we show that when the underlying complex structure is infinitesimally preserved the branch points are necessarily arranged on a canonical divisor, and we establish a partial converse for hyperelliptic structures.
We develop deformation theory for abelian invariant complex structures on a nilmanifold, and prove that in this case the invariance property is preserved by the Kuranishi process. A purely algebraic condition characterizes the deformations leading again to abelian structures, and we prove that such deformations are unobstructed. Various examples illustrate the resulting theory, and the behavior possible in 3 complex dimensions.
We introduce K-deformations of generalized complex structures on a compact Kahler manifold $M=(X, J)$ with an effective anti-canonical divisor and show that obstructions to K-deformations of generalized complex structures on $M$ always vanish. Applying the stability theorem of generalized Kahler structures, together with unobstructed K-deformations, we construct deformations of bihermitian structures in the form $(J, J^-_t, h_t)$ on a compact Kahler surface with a non-zero holomorphic Poisson structure. Then we prove that a compact Kahler surface $S$ admits a non-trivial bihermitian structure …
In \cite{Goto}, Ryushi Goto has constructed the deformation space for a manifold equipped with a collection of closed differential forms and showed that in some important cases (Calabi-Yau, $G_2$- and $Spin(7)$-structures) this deformation space is smooth. This result unifies the classical Bogomolov-Tian-Todorov and Joyce theorems about unobstructedness of deformations. Using the work of Fiorenza and Manetti, we show that this deformation space could be obtained as the deformation space associated to a certain $L_{\infty}$-algebra. We also show that for Calabi-Yau, $G_2$- and $Spin(7)$-structu…
In this work we define a deformation theory for the Coupled Kähler-Yang-Mills equations in arXiv:1102.0991, generalizing work of Székelyhidi on constant scalar curvature Kähler metrics. We use the theory to find new solutions of the equations via deformation of the complex structure of a polarised manifold endowed with a holomorphic vector bundle. We also study the deformations of the recent examples of Keller and Tønnesen-Friedman.
It is known that generalized deformation in the sense of Hitchin-Gaultieri is a geometric realization of the degree-2 component of Kontsevich-Barannikov's homological approach to extended deformation. Through extended deformation, one associates a Frobenius structure to the extended moduli space. In this notes, we prove that on primary Kodaira manifolds the restriction of the Frobenius structure on the degree-2 component of the extended moduli space is trivial. It generalizes the author's past observation on Kodaira surface.
We study deformation of spherical $CR$ circle bundles over Riemann surfaces of genus > 1. There is a one to one correspondence between such deformation space and the so-called universal Picard variety. Our differential-geometric proof of the structure and dimension of the unramified universal Picard variety has its own interest, and our theory has its counterpart in the Teichmuller theory.
We show that deformations of a coisotropic submanifold inside a fibrewise entire Poisson manifold are controlled by the $L_\infty$-algebra introduced by Oh-Park (for symplectic manifolds) and Cattaneo-Felder. In the symplectic case, we recover results previously obtained by Oh-Park. Moreover we consider the extended deformation problem and prove its obstructedness.
Smooth deformations of a Minkowski type metric in a four-dimensional space-time manifold are considered. Deformations of the basic spin-tensorial fields associated with this metric are calculated and their application to calculating the energy-momentum tensor of a massive spin 1/2 particle is shown.
In this paper we study the deformations of bihamiltonian PDEs of hydrodynamic type with one dependent variable. The reason we study such deformations is that the deformed systems maintain an infinite number of commuting integrals of motion up to a certain order in the deformation parameter. This fact suggests that these systems could have, at least for small times, multi-solitons solutions. Our numerical experiments confirm this hypothesis.
In this letter, first we give a decomposition for any Lie-Poisson structure $π_g$ associated to the modular vector. In particular, $π_g$ splits into two compatible Lie-Poisson structures if $dim{g} \leq 3$. As an application, we classified quadratic deformations of Lie-Poisson structures on $\mathbb R^3$ up to linear diffeomorphisms.
Deformations of a Courant Algebroid E and its Dirac subbundle A have been widely considered under the assumption that the pseudo-Euclidean metric is fixed. In this paper, we attack the same problem in a setting that allows the pseudo-Euclidean metric to deform. Thanks to Roytenberg, a Courant algebroid is equivalent to a symplectic graded Q-manifold of degree 2. From this viewpoint, we extend the notions of graded Q-manifold, DGLA and L_\infty-algebra all to "blended" version so that Poisson manifold, Lie algebroid and Courant algebroid are unified as blended Q-manifolds; and define a submanio…
Deformations of Dubrovin's Hurwitz Frobenius manifolds are constructed. The deformations depend on $g(g+1)/2$ complex parameters where $g$ is the genus of the corresponding Riemann surface. In genus one, the flat metric of the deformed Frobenius manifold coincides with a metric associated with a one-parameter family of solutions to the Painlevé-VI equation with coefficients $(1/8,-1/8,1/8,3/8).$ Analogous deformations of the real doubles of the Hurwitz Frobenius manifolds are also found; these deformations depend on $g(g+1)/2$ real parameters.
We study the deformation theory of pre-symplectic structures, i.e. closed two-forms of fixed rank. The main result is a parametrization of nearby deformations of a given pre-symplectic structure in terms of an $L_\infty$-algebra, which we call Koszul $L_\infty$-algebra. This $L_\infty$-algebra is a cousin of the Koszul dg Lie algebra associated to a Poisson manifold. In addition, we show that a quotient of the Koszul $L_{\infty}$-algebra is isomorphic to the $L_\infty$-algebra which controls the deformations of the underlying characteristic foliation. Finally, we show that the infinitesimal de…
The deformation theory of a Dirac structure is controlled by a differential graded Lie algebra which depends on the choice of an auxiliary transversal Dirac structure; if the transversal is not involutive, one obtains an $L_\infty$ algebra instead. We develop a simplified method for describing this $L_\infty$ algebra and use it to prove that the $L_\infty$ algebras corresponding to different transversals are canonically $L_\infty$-isomorphic. In some cases, this isomorphism provides a formality map, as we show in several examples including (quasi)-Poisson geometry, Dirac structures on Lie grou…
We provide a complete list of two- and three-component Poisson structures of hydrodynamic type with degenerate metric, and study their homogeneous deformations. In the non-degenerate case any such deformation is trivial, that is, can be obtained via Miura transformation. We demonstrate that in the degenerate case this class of deformations is non-trivial, and depends on a certain number of arbitrary functions. This shows that the second Poisson-Lichnerowicz cohomology group does not vanish.
We give a new characterization of generalized Kähler structures in terms of their corresponding complex Dirac structures. We then give an alternative proof of Hitchin's partial unobstructedness for holomorphic Poisson structures. Our main application is to show that there is a corresponding unobstructedness result for arbitrary generalized Kähler structures. That is, we show that any generalized Kähler structure may be deformed in such a way that one of its underlying holomorphic Poisson structures remains fixed, while the other deforms via Hitchin's deformation. Finally, we indicate a close r…
