In this work we prove a shape theorem for a growing set of Simple Random Walks (SRWs), known as frog model. The dynamics of this process is described as follows: There are some active particles, which perform independent SRWs, and sleeping particles, which do not move. When a sleeping particle is hit by an active particle, it becomes active too. We prove that the set of the original positions of all the active particles, rescaled by the elapsed time, converges to some compact convex set. In some specific cases we are able to identify (at least partially) this set.
In this note, we consider the frog model on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ and a two-type version of it with two types of particles. For the one-type model, we show that the asymptotic shape does not depend on the initially activated set and the configuration there. For the two-type model, we show that the possibility for the types to coexist in that both of them activate infinitely many particles does not depend on the choice of the initially activated sets and the configurations there.
The frog model starts with one active particle at the root of a graph and some number of dormant particles at all nonroot vertices. Active particles follow independent random paths, waking all inactive particles they encounter. We prove that certain frog model statistics are monotone in the initial configuration for two nonstandard stochastic dominance relations: the increasing concave and the probability generating function orders. This extends many canonical theorems. We connect recurrence for random initial configurations to recurrence for deterministic configurations. Also, the limiting sh…
We prove a shape theorem for the set of infected individuals in a spatial epidemic model with 3 states (susceptible-infected-recovered) on ${\mathbb Z}^d,d\ge 3$, when there is no extinction of the infection. For this, we derive percolation estimates (using dynamic renormalization techniques) for a locally dependent random graph in correspondence with the epidemic model.
We study a particular model of a random medium, called the orthant model, in general dimensions $d\ge 2$. Each site $x\in \Z^d$ independently has arrows pointing to its positive neighbours $x+e_i$, $i=1,\dots, d$ with probability $p$ and otherwise to its negative neighbours $x-e_i$, $i=1,\dots, d$ (with probability $1-p$). We prove a shape theorem for the set of sites reachable by following arrows, starting from the origin, when $p$ is large. The argument uses subadditivity, as would be expected from the shape theorems arising in the study of first passage percolation. The main difficulty to o…
We consider the extension of the Euclidean stochastic geometry Poisson Hail model to the case where the service speed is zero in some subset of the Euclidean space and infinity in the complement. We use and develop tools pertaining to sub-additive ergodic theory in order to establish shape theorems for the growth of the ice-heap under light tail assumptions on the hailstone characteristics. The asymptotic shape depends on the statistics of the hailstones, the intensity of the underlying Poisson point process and on the geometrical properties of the zero speed set.
We consider a one-dimensional discrete-space birth process with a bounded number of particle per site. Under the assumptions of the finite range of interaction, translation invariance, and non-degeneracy, we prove a shape theorem. We also derive a limiting estimate and an exponential estimate on the fluctuations of the position of the rightmost particle.
We prove a shape theorem and derive a variational formula for the limiting quenched Lyapunov exponent and the Green's function of random walk in a random potential on a square lattice of arbitrary dimension and with an arbitrary finite set of steps. The potential is a function of a stationary environment and the step of the walk. This potential is subject to a moment assumption whose strictness is tied to the mixing of the environment. Our setting includes directed and undirected polymers, random walk in static and dynamic random environment, and, when the temperature is taken to zero, our res…
We consider the model of i.i.d. first passage percolation on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ : we associate with each edge $e$ of the graph a passage time $t(e)$ taking values in $[0,+\infty]$, such that $\mathbb{P}[t(e)<+\infty] >p_c(d)$. Equivalently, we consider a standard (finite) i.i.d. first passage percolation model on a super-critical Bernoulli percolation performed independently. We prove a weak shape theorem without any moment assumption. We also prove that the corresponding time constant is positive if and only if $\mathbb{P}[t(e)=0]<p_c(d)$.
In this paper we give a complete characterization of the scaling limit of the critical Interacting Partially Directed Self-Avoiding Walk (IPDSAW) introduced in Zwanzig and Lauritzen (1968). As the system size $L$ diverges, we prove that the set of occupied sites, rescaled horizontally by $L^{2/3}$ and vertically by $L^{1/3}$ converges in law for the Hausdorff distance towards a non trivial random set. This limiting set is built with a Brownian motion $B$ conditioned to come back at the origin at $a_1$ the time at which its geometric area reaches $1$. The modulus of $B$ up to $a_1$ gives the he…
We present a general approach to study a class of random growth models in $n$-dimensional Euclidean space. These models are designed to capture basic growth features which are expected to manifest at the mesoscopic level for several classical self-interacting processes originally defined at the microscopic scale. It includes once-reinforced random walk with strong reinforcement, origin-excited random walk, and few others, for which the set of visited vertices is expected to form a "limiting shape". We prove an averaging principle that leads to such shape theorem. The limiting shape can be comp…
In this paper we provide general conditions on a one parameter family of random infinite subsets of Z^d to contain a unique infinite connected component for which the chemical distances are comparable to the Euclidean distances, focusing primarily on models with long-range correlations. Our results are in the spirit of those by Antal and Pisztora proved for Bernoulli percolation. We also prove a shape theorem for balls in the chemical distance under such conditions. Our general statements give novel results about the structure of the infinite connected component of the vacant set of random int…
In this work, we prove a shape theorem for Poisson cylinders and give a power law bound on surface fluctuations. We prove that for any $a \in (1/2, 1)$, conditioned on the origin being in the set of cylinders, every point in this set, whose Euclidean norm is less than $R$, lies at an internal distance less than $R+O(R^a)$ from the origin.
The $β$-Delaunay tessellation in $\mathbb{R}^{d-1}$ is a generalization of the classical Poisson-Delaunay tessellation. As a first result of this paper we show that the shape of a weighted typical cell of a $β$-Delaunay tessellation, conditioned on having large volume, is close to the shape of a regular simplex in $\mathbb{R}^{d-1}$. This generalizes earlier results of Hug and Schneider about the typical (non-weighted) Poisson-Delaunay simplex. Second, the asymptotic behaviour of the volume of weighted typical cells in high-dimensional $β$-Delaunay tessellation is analysed, as $d\to\infty$. In…
We formulate and prove a shape theorem for a continuous-time continuous-space stochastic growth model under certain general conditions. Similarly to the classical lattice growth models the proof makes use of the subadditive ergodic theorem. A precise expression for the speed of propagation is given in the case of a truncated free branching birth rate.
There are various models of first passage percolation (FPP) in $\mathbb R^d$. We want to start a very general study of this topic. To this end we generalize the first passage percolation model on the lattice $\mathbb Z^d$ to $\mathbb R^d$ and adapt the results of \cite{boivin1990first} to prove a shape theorem for ergodic random pseudometrics on $\mathbb R^d$. A natural application of this result will be the study of FPP on random tessellations where a fluid starts in the zero cell and takes a random time to pass through the boundary of a cell into a neighbouring cell. We find that a tame rand…
It has been well known for a long time that the height function of random lozenge tilings of large domains follow a law of large number and possible limits called dimer limit shapes are well understood. For the next order, it is expected that fluctuations behave like version of a Gaussian Free field, at least away from some special "frozen" regions. However despite being one of the main questions in the domain for 20 years, only special cases have been obtained. In this paper we show that for any specified limit shape with no frozen region, one can construct a sequence of domains whose height …
We study paths of time-length $t$ of a continuous-time random walk on $\mathbb Z^2$ subject to self-interaction that depends on the geometry of the walk range and a collection of random, uniformly positive and finite edge weights. The interaction enters through a Gibbs weight at inverse temperature $β$; the "energy" is the total sum of the edge weights for edges on the outer boundary of the range. For edge weights sampled from a translation-invariant, ergodic law, we prove that the range boundary condensates around an asymptotic shape in the limit $t\to\infty$ followed by $β\to\infty$. The lim…
This is an expository note answering a question posed to us by Richard Stanley, in which we prove a limit shape theorem for partitions of $n$ which maximize the number of subpartitions. The limit shape and the growth rate of the number of subpartitions are explicit. The key ideas are to use large deviations estimates for random walks, together with convex analysis and the Hardy-Ramanujan asymptotics. Our limit shape coincides with Vershik's limit shape for uniform random partitions.
We establish quantitative spherical shape theorems for rotor-router aggregation and abelian sandpile growth on the graphical Sierpinski gasket ($SG$) when particles are launched from the corner vertex. In particular, the abelian sandpile growth problem is exactly solved via a recursive construction of self-similar sandpile tiles. We show that sandpile growth and patterns exhibit a $(2\cdot 3^n)$-periodicity as a function of the initial mass. Moreover, the cluster explodes---increments by more than 1 in radius---at periodic intervals, a phenomenon not seen on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ or trees. We explici…
