We briefly report on our result that the braided tensor product algebra of two module algebras $A_1,A_2$ of a quasitriangular Hopf algebra $H$ is equal to the ordinary tensor product algebra of $H_1$ with a subalgebra isomorphic to $A_2$ and commuting with $A_1$, provided there exists a realization of $H$ within $A_1$. As applications of the theorem we consider the braided tensor product algebras of two or more quantum group covariant quantum spaces or deformed Heisenberg algebras.
The machinery of braided geometry introduced previously is used now to construct the $ε$ `totally antisymmetric tensor' on a general braided vector space determined by R-matrices. This includes natural $q$-Euclidean and $q$-Minkowski spaces. The formalism is completely covariant under the corresponding quantum group such as $\widetilde{SO_q(4)}$ or $\widetilde{SO_q(1,3)}$. The Hodge $*$ operator and differentials are also constructed in this approach.
We briefly review and illustrate our procedure to 'decouple' by transformation of generators: either a Hopf algebra $H$ from a $H$-module algebra $A_1$ in their cross-product $A_1 >\triangleleft H$; or two (or more) $H$-module algebras $A_1,A_2$. These transformations are based on the existence of an algebra map $A_1 >\triangleleft H\to A_1$.
We show that the braided tensor product algebra $A_1\underline{\otimes}A_2$ of two module algebras $A_1, A_2$ of a quasitriangular Hopf algebra $H$ is equal to the ordinary tensor product algebra of $A_1$ with a subalgebra of $A_1\underline{\otimes}A_2$ isomorphic to $A_2$, provided there exists a realization of $H$ within $A_1$. In other words, under this assumption we construct a transformation of generators which `decouples' $A_1, A_2$ (i.e. makes them commuting). We apply the theorem to the braided tensor product algebras of two or more quantum group covariant quantum spaces, deformed Heis…
Let $V$ be a vertex operator algebra satisfying suitable conditions such that in particular its module category has a natural vertex tensor category structure, and consequently, a natural braided tensor category structure. We prove that the notions of extension (i.e., enlargement) of $V$ and of commutative associative algebra, with uniqueness of unit and with trivial twist, in the braided tensor category of $V$-modules are equivalent.
Blatter-Montgomery duality theorem is generalized into braided tensor categories. It is shown that $Hom(V,W)$ is a braided Yetter-Drinfeld module for any two braided Yetter-Drinfeld modules $V$ and $W$.
We realize the physical N-anyon Hilbert spaces, introduced previously via unitary representations of the group of diffeomorphisms of the plane, as N-fold braided-symmetric tensor products of the 1-particle Hilbert space. This perspective provides a convenient Fock space construction for nonrelativistic anyon quantum fields along the more usual lines of boson and fermion fields, but in a braided category. We see how essential physical information is thus encoded. In particular we show how the algebraic structure of our anyonic Fock space leads to a natural anyonic exclusion principle related to…
This is the eighth part in a series of papers in which we introduce and develop a natural, general tensor category theory for suitable module categories for a vertex (operator) algebra. In this paper (Part VIII), we construct the braided tensor category structure, using the previously developed results.
We classify finite pointed braided tensor categories admitting a fiber functor in terms of bilinear forms on symmetric Yetter-Drinfeld modules over abelian groups. We describe the groupoid formed by braided equivalences of such categories in terms of certain metric data, generalizing the well-known result of Joyal and Street for fusion categories. We study symmetric centers and ribbon structures of pointed braided tensor categories and examine their Drinfeld centers.
For an abelian group $ A $, we study a close connection between braided crossed $ A $-categories with a trivialization of the $ A $-action and $ A $-graded braided tensor categories. Additionally, we prove that the obstruction to the existence of a trivialization of a categorical group action $T$ on a monoidal category $\mathcal{C}$ is given by an element $O(T)\in H^2(G,\operatorname{Aut}_\otimes(\operatorname{Id}_{\mathcal{C}}))$. In the case that $O(T)=0$, the set of obstructions form a torsor over $\operatorname{Hom}(G,\operatorname{Aut}_\otimes(\operatorname{Id}_{\mathcal{C}}))$, where $\o…
Given a non-semisimple braided tensor category, with oplax tensor functors from known braided tensor categories, we ask : How does this knowledge characterize the tensor product and the braiding? We develop tools that address this question. In particular we prove that the associator is fixed by the oplax tensor functors, and we show that a distinguished role is played by the coalgebra structure on the image of theses tensor functors. Our setup constrains the form of quasi bialgebras appearing in the logarithmic Kazhdan-Lusztig conjecture and it applies in particular to the representation categ…
For a finite braided tensor category we introduce its Picard crossed module consisting of the group of invertible module categories and the group of braided tensor autoequivalences. We describe the Picard crossed module in terms of braided autoequivalences of the Drinfeld center of the braided tensor category. As an illustration, we compute the Picard crossed module of a braided pointed fusion category.
In this paper we study the relative tensor product of module categories over braided fusion categories using, in part, the notion of the relative center of a module category. In particular we investigate the canonical tensor category structure and braiding inherited by the relative tensor product when module categories are themselves tensor/braided. As a basic example we show that the category of representations of the fibre product of finite groups may be expressed in terms of the relative product and show how to multiply braided fusion categories arising from pre-metric groups. Also, we cons…
We classify various types of graded extensions of a finite braided tensor category $\cal B$ in terms of its $2$-categorical Picard groups. In particular, we prove that braided extensions of $\cal B$ by a finite group $A$ correspond to braided monoidal $2$-functors from $A$ to the braided $2$-categorical Picard group of $\cal B$ (consisting of invertible central $\cal B$-module categories). Such functors can be expressed in terms of the Eilnberg-Mac~Lane cohomology. We describe in detail braided $2$-categorical Picard groups of symmetric fusion categories and of pointed braided fusion categorie…
We discuss what has been achieved in the past twenty years on the construction and study of a braided finite tensor category structure on a suitable module category for a suitable vertex operator algebra. We identify the main difficult parts in the construction, discuss the methods developed to overcome these difficulties and present some further problems that still need to be solved. We also choose to discuss three among the numerous applications of the construction.
Using the tensor category theory developed by Lepowsky, Zhang and the second author, we construct a braided tensor category structure with a twist on a semisimple category of modules for an affine Lie algebra at an admissible level. We conjecture that this braided tensor category is rigid and thus is a ribbon category. We also give conjectures on the modularity of this category and on the equivalence with a suitable quantum group tensor category. In the special case that the affine Lie algebra is $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2$, we prove the rigidity and modularity conjectures.
We investigate invertible elements and gradings in braided tensor categories. This leads us to the definition of theta-, product-, subgrading and orbitcategories in order to construct new families of BTC's from given ones. We use the representation theory of Hecke algebras in order to relate the fusionring of a BTC generated by an object $X$ with a two component decomposition of its tensorsquare to the fusionring of quantum groups of type $A$ at roots of unity. We find the condition of `local isomorphie' on a special fusionring morphism implying that a BTC is obtained from the above constructi…
We introduce, for a symmetric fusion category $\mathcal{A}$ with Drinfeld centre $\mathcal{Z}(\mathcal{A})$, the notion of $\mathcal{Z}(\mathcal{A})$-crossed braided tensor category. These are categories that are enriched over $\mathcal{Z}(\mathcal{A})$ equipped with a symmetric tensor product, while being braided monoidal with respect to the usual tensor product on $\mathcal{Z}(\mathcal{A})$. In the Tannakian case where $\mathcal{A}=\mathbf{Rep}(G)$ for a finite group $G$, the 2-category of $\mathcal{Z}(\mathcal{A})$-crossed braided categories is shown to be equivalent to the 2-category of $G…
An example of double cross coproducts with both non-trivial left coaction and non-trivial right coaction in strictly braided tensor categories is given.
We give a formula for the relative Deligne tensor product of two indecomposable finite semisimple module categories over a pointed braided fusion category over an algebraically closed field.
Let G be a classical compact Lie group and G_μthe associated compact matrix quantum group deformed by a positive parameter μ(or a nonzero and real μin the type A case). It is well known that the category Rep(G_μ) of unitary f.d. representations of G_μis a braided tensor C*-category. We show that any braided tensor *-functor from Rep(G_μ) to another braided tensor C*-category with irreducible tensor unit is full if |μ|\neq 1. In particular, the functor of restriction to the representation category of a proper compact quantum subgroup, cannot be made into a braided functor. Our result also shows…
We study the question of dualizability in higher Morita categories of locally presentable tensor categories and braided tensor categories. Our main results are that the 3-category of rigid tensor categories with enough compact projectives is 2-dualizable, that the 4-category of rigid braided tensor categories with enough compact projectives is 3-dualizable, and that (in characteristic zero) the 4-category of braided fusion categories is 4-dualizable. Via the cobordism hypothesis, this produces respectively 2, 3 and 4-dimensional framed local topological field theories. In particular, we produc…
We show that the algebra of the bicovariant differential calculus on a quantum group can be understood as a projection of the cross product between a braided Hopf algebra and the quantum double of the quantum group. The resulting super-Hopf algebra can be reproduced by extending the exterior derivative to tensor products.
We prove that a finite braided tensor category A is invertible in the Morita 4-category BrTens of braided tensor categories if, and only if, it is non-degenerate. This includes the case of semisimple modular tensor categories, but also non-semisimple examples such as categories of representations of the small quantum group at good roots of unity. Via the cobordism hypothesis, we obtain new invertible 4-dimensional framed topological field theories, which we regard as a non-semisimple framed version of the Crane-Yetter-Kauffman invariants, after Freed--Teleman and Walker's construction in the s…
The $\mathcal{B}_p$-algebras are a family of vertex operator algebras parameterized by $p\in \mathbb Z_{\geq 2}$. They are important examples of logarithmic CFTs and appear as chiral algebras of type $(A_1, A_{2p-3})$ Argyres-Douglas theories. The first member of this series, the $\mathcal{B}_2$-algebra, are the well-known symplectic bosons also often called the $βγ$ vertex operator algebra. We study categories related to the $\mathcal{B}_p$ vertex operator algebras using their conjectural relation to unrolled restricted quantum groups of $\mathfrak{sl}_2$. These categories are braided, rigid …
For an Yang Baxter operator we show that a bialgebra homomorphism from a free braided tensor bialgebra to a cofree braided shuffle bialgebra is the Woronowicz braided antisymmetrizer. A cofree braided shuffle bialgebra is a braided generalization of a cofree shuffle bialgebra introduced by Sweedler. Its graded dual bialgebra is a free braided tensor bialgebra.
Let $W$ be a finite dimensional purely odd supervector space over $\mathbb{C}$, and let $\sRep(W)$ be the finite symmetric tensor category of finite dimensional superrepresentations of the finite supergroup $W$. We show that the set of equivalence classes of finite non-degenerate braided tensor categories $\C$ containing $\sRep(W)$ as a Lagrangian subcategory is a torsor over the cyclic group $\mathbb{Z}/16\mathbb{Z}$. In particular, we obtain that there are $8$ non-equivalent such braided tensor categories $\C$ which are integral and $8$ which are non-integral.
Quantum matrices $A(R)$ are known for every $R$ matrix obeying the Quantum Yang-Baxter Equations. It is also known that these act on `vectors' given by the corresponding Zamalodchikov algebra. We develop this interpretation in detail, distinguishing between two forms of this algebra, $V(R)$ (vectors) and $V^*(R)$ (covectors). $A(R)\to V(R_{21})\tens V^*(R)$ is an algebra homomorphism (i.e. quantum matrices are realized by the tensor product of a quantum vector with a quantum covector), while the inner product of a quantum covector with a quantum vector transforms as a scaler. We show that if $…
We classify Lagrangian subcategories of the representation category of a twisted quantum double of a finite group. In view of results of 0704.0195v2 this gives a complete description of all braided tensor equivalent pairs of twisted quantum doubles of finite groups. We also establish a canonical bijection between Lagrangian subcategories of the representation category of a twisted quantum double of a finite group G and module categories over the category of twisted G-graded vector spaces such that the dual tensor category is pointed. This can be viewed as a quantum version of V. Drinfeld's cha…
We classify braided extensions $C$ of a rank $2$ fusion category. The result shows that $C$ is tensor equivalent to a Deligne's tensor product of some known categories, except $C$ is slightly degenerate and generated by a $\sqrt{2}$-dimensional simple object. To start with, we describe the fusion rules, universal grading group, and the Frobenius-Perron dimensions of simple objects of $C$ without the restriction that $C$ is braided.
The loop braid group is the motion group of unknotted oriented circles in $\mathbb{R}^3$. In this paper, we study their representations through the approach inspired by two dimensional topological phases of matter. In principle, the motion of loops in $\mathbb{R}^3$ reduces to the motions of points in a two dimensional sliced plane. We realize this physical picture in terms of braided tensor categories and their braid group representations.
We develop a method for generating the complete set of basic data under the torsorial actions of $H^2_{[ρ]}(G,\mathcal{A})$ and $H^3(G,\text{U}(1))$ on a $G$-crossed braided tensor category $\mathcal{C}_G^\times$, where $\mathcal{A}$ is the set of invertible simple objects in the braided tensor category $\mathcal{C}$. When $\mathcal{C}$ is a modular tensor category, the $H^2_{[ρ]}(G,\mathcal{A})$ and $H^3(G,\text{U}(1))$ torsorial action gives a complete generation of possible $G$-crossed extensions, and hence provides a classification. This torsorial classification can be (partially) collapse…
The relation between crossed product and $H$-Galois extension in braided tensor category ${\cal C}$ with equivalisers and coequivalisers is established. That is, it is shown that if there exist an equivaliser and a coequivaliser for any two morphisms in ${\cal C}$, then $A = B #_σH$ is a crossed product algebra if and only if the extension $A/B$ is Galois, the canonical epic $q: A\otimes A \to A\otimes_B A$ is split and $A$ is isomorphic as left $B$-modules and right $H$-comodules to $B\otimes H$ in ${\cal C}$.
We present characterizations of braided co-Frobenius Hopf algebras in the braided tensor category of Yetter-Drinfeld modules over a Hopf algebra extending those already known for co-Frobenius Hopf algebras.
In this paper we investigate the categories of braided objects, algebras and bialgebras in a given monoidal category, some pairs of adjoint functors between them and their relations. In particular we construct a braided primitive functor and its left adjoint, the braided tensor bialgebra functor, from the category of braided objects to the one of braided bialgebras. The latter is obtained by a specific elaborated construction introducing a braided tensor algebra functor as a left adjoint of the forgetful functor from the category of braided algebras to the one of braided objects. The behaviour…
We discuss the obstruction to the construction of a multiparticle field theory on a $κ$-Minkowski noncommutative spacetime: the existence of multilocal functions which respect the deformed symmetries of the problem. This construction is only possible for a light-like version of the commutation relations, if one requires invariance of the tensor product algebra under the coaction of the $κ$-Poincaré group. This necessitates a braided tensor product. We study the representations of this product, and prove that $κ$-Poincaré-invariant N-point functions belong to an Abelian subalgebra, and are ther…
Let $\mathcal{C}$ be a finite braided multitensor category. Let $B$ be Majid's automorphism braided group of $\mathcal{C}$, then $B$ is a cocommutative Hopf algebra in $\mathcal{C}$. We show that the center of $\mathcal{C}$ is isomorphic to the category of left $B$-comodules in $\mathcal{C}$, and the decomposition of $B$ into a direct sum of indecomposable $\mathcal{C}$-subcoalgebras leads to a decomposition of $B$-$\operatorname*{Comod}_{\mathcal{C}}$ into a direct sum of indecomposable $\mathcal{C}$-module subcategories. As an application, we present an explicit characterization of the struc…
Given a braided pivotal category $\mathcal C$ and a pivotal module tensor category $\mathcal M$, we define a functor $\mathrm{Tr}_{\mathcal C}:\mathcal M \to \mathcal C$, called the associated categorified trace. By a result of Bezrukavnikov, Finkelberg and Ostrik, the functor $\mathrm{Tr}_{\mathcal C}$ comes equipped with natural isomorphisms $τ_{x,y}:\mathrm{Tr}_{\mathcal C}(x \otimes y) \to \mathrm{Tr}_{\mathcal C}(y \otimes x)$, which we call the traciators. This situation lends itself to a diagramatic calculus of `strings on cylinders', where the traciator corresponds to wrapping a string…
We introduce a new type of categorical object called a \emph{hom-tensor category} and show that it provides the appropriate setting for modules over an arbitrary hom-bialgebra. Next we introduce the notion of \emph{hom-braided category} and show that this is the right setting for modules over quasitriangular hom-bialgebras. We also show how the hom-Yang-Baxter equation fits into this framework and how the category of Yetter-Drinfeld modules over a hom-bialgebra with bijective structure map can be organized as a hom-braided category. Finally we prove that, under certain conditions, one can obta…
We give a full classification of all braided semisimple tensor categories whose Grothendieck semiring is the one of Rep(O(\infty) (formally), Rep(O(N), Rep(Sp(N) or of one of its associated fusion categories. If the braiding is not symmetric, they are completely determined by the eigenvalues of a certain braiding morphism, and we determine precisely which values can occur in the various cases. If the category allows a symmetric braiding, it is essentially determined by the dimension of the object corresponding to the vector representation. Note that the paper is followed by a brief erratum, wh…
By applying the idea of viewing the octonions as an associative algebra in certain tensor categories, or more precisely as a twisted group algebra by a 2-cochain, we show that the octonions form an Azumaya algebra in some suitable braided linear Gr-categories.
We generalize Jones' planar algebras by internalising the notion to a pivotal braided tensor category $\mathcal{C}$. To formulate the notion, the planar tangles are now equipped with additional `anchor lines' which connect the inner circles to the outer circle. We call the resulting notion an anchored planar algebra. If we restrict to the case when $\mathcal{C}$ is the category of vector spaces, then we recover the usual notion of a planar algebra. Building on our previous work on categorified traces, we prove that there is an equivalence of categories between anchored planar algebras in $\mat…
We give two proofs of a level-rank duality for braided fusion categories obtained from quantum groups of type $C$ at roots of unity. The first proof uses conformal embeddings, while the second uses a classification of braided fusion categories associated with quantum groups of type $C$ at roots of unity. In addition we give a similar result for non-unitary braided fusion categories quantum groups of types $B$ and $C$ at odd roots of unity.
We study the braided monoidal structure that the fusion product induces on the abelian category $\mathcal{W}_p$-mod, the category of representations of the triplet $W$-algebra $\mathcal{W}_p$. The $\mathcal{W}_p$-algebras are a family of vertex operator algebras that form the simplest known examples of symmetry algebras of logarithmic conformal field theories. We formalise the methods for computing fusion products, developed by Nahm, Gaberdiel and Kausch, that are widely used in the physics literature and illustrate a systematic approach to calculating fusion products in non-semi-simple repres…
The chiral conformal field theory of free super-bosons is generated by weight one currents whose mode algebra is the affinisation of an abelian Lie super-algebra h with non-degenerate super-symmetric pairing. The mode algebras of a single free boson and of a single pair of symplectic fermions arise for even|odd dimension 1|0 and 0|2 of h, respectively. In this paper, the representations of the untwisted mode algebra of free super-bosons are equipped with a tensor product, a braiding, and an associator. In the symplectic fermion case, i.e. if h is purely odd, the braided monoidal structure is e…
The paper begins by giving an algebraic structure on a set of coset representatives for the left action of a subgroup on a group. From this we construct a non-trivially associated tensor category. Also a double construction is given, and this allows the construction of a non-trivially associated braided tensor category. In this category we explicitly reconstruct a braided Hopf algebra, whose representations comprise the category itself.
We introduce a representation theory of q-Lie algebras defined earlier in \cite{DG1}, \cite{DG2}, formulated in terms of braided modules. We also discuss other ways to define Lie algebra-like objects related to quantum groups, in particular, those based on the so-called reflection equations. We also investigate the truncated tensor product of braided modules.
Let $H$ be an infinite-dimensional braided Hopf algebra and assume that the braiding is symmetric on $H$ and its quasi-dual $H^d$. We prove the Blattner-Montgomery duality theorem, namely we prove $$ (R # H)# H^{d} \cong R \otimes (H # H^{d}) \hbox {as algebras in braided tensor category} {\cal C}.$$ In particular, we present two duality theorems for infinite braided Hopf algebras in the Yetter-Drinfeld module category.
A linear Gr-category is a category of finite-dimensional vector spaces graded by a finite group together with natural tensor product. We classify the braided monoidal structures of a class of linear Gr-categories via explicit computations of the 3-cocycles and quasi-bicharacters of finite abelian groups which are direct product of two cyclic groups.
For a braided finite tensor category $\mathcal{C}$ with unit object $1 \in \mathcal{C}$, Lyubashenko considered a certain Hopf algebra $\mathbb{F} \in \mathcal{C}$ endowed with a Hopf pairing $ω: \mathbb{F} \otimes \mathbb{F} \to 1$ to define the notion of a `non-semisimple' modular tensor category. We say that $\mathcal{C}$ is non-degenerate if the Hopf pairing $ω$ is non-degenerate. In this paper, we show that $\mathcal{C}$ is non-degenerate if and only if it is factorizable in the sense of Etingof, Nikshych and Ostrik, if and only if its Müger center is trivial, if and only if the linear ma…
