We study in this paper the concept of bounded point evaluations for cyclic operators. We give a negative answer to a question of L.R. Williams {\it Dynamic Systems and Apllications} 3(1994) 103-112. Furthermore, we generalize some results of Williams and give a simple proof of theorem 2.5 of L.R. Williams (The Local Spectra of Pure Quasinormal Operators J. Math. anal. Appl. 187(1994) 842-850) that non normal hyponormal weighted shifts have fat local spectra.
In this paper we develop a version of spectral theory for bounded linear operators on topological vector spaces. We show that the Gelfand formula for spectral radius and Neumann series can still be naturally interpreted for operators on topological vector spaces. Of course, the resulting theory has many similarities to the conventional spectral theory of bounded operators on Banach spaces, though there are several important differences. The main difference is that an operator on a topological vector space has several spectra and several spectral radii, which fit a well-organized pattern.
In this paper we present some spectral property for quotient bounded operators and locally bounded operators on locally convex spaces. We introduce the spectral radius of a quotient bounded operator and we show that the Gelfand formula for spectral radius and Newmann series have the same properties like in Banach spaces. Moreover, the geometrical radius of the spectrum is equal with the spectral radius. Using definitions of V.Troitsky we prove that the spectral set of a quotient bounded operator is compact set.
Let $A$ be a $0$-sectorial operator with a bounded $H^\infty(Σ\_σ)$-calculus for some $σ\in (0,π),$ e.g. a Laplace type operator on $L^p(Ω),\: 1 < p < \infty,$ where $Ω$ is a manifold or a graph. We show that $A$ has a H{ö}rmander functional calculus if and only if certain operator families derived from the resolvent $(λ- A)^{-1},$ the semigroup $e^{-zA},$ the wave operators $e^{itA}$ or the imaginary powers $A^{it}$ of $A$ are $R$-bounded in an $L^2$-averaged sense. If $X$ is an $L^p(Ω)$ space with $1 \leq p < \infty,$ $R$-boundedness reduces to well-known estimates of square sums.
Exact Hausdorff dimensions are computed for singular continuous components of the spectral measures of a class of Schrödinger operators in bounded intervals.
We study the Spectral Analysis for a class of bounded linear operators T = D + F in a non Archimedean Hilbert space E, where D is a diagonal linear operator and where F is a finite rank linear operator. In this study of the Spectral Analysis, we use extensively the Theory of Fredholm Operators to deduce some of our main results.
We discuss some necessary and some sufficient conditions for an elementary operator $x\mapsto\sum_{i=1}^n a_ixb_i$ on a Banach algebra $A$ to be spectrally bounded. In the case of length three, we obtain a complete characterisation when $A$ acts irreducibly on a Banach space of dimension greater than three.
We prove new inequalities and equalities for the generalized and the joint spectral radius (and their essential versions) of Hadamard (Schur) geometric means of bounded sets of positive kernel operators on Banach function spaces. In the case of nonnegative matrices that define operators on Banach sequences we obtain additional results. Our results extend results of several authors that appeared relatively recently.
Several spectral radii formulas for infinite bounded nonnegative matrices in max algebra are obtained. We also prove some Perron-Frobenius type results for such matrices. In particular, we obtain results on block triangular forms, which are similar to results on Frobenius normal form of $n \times n$ matrices. Some continuity results are also established.
Let $X$ and $Y$ be Banach spaces, $A\,:\,X\rightarrow Y$ and $B,\,C\,:\,Y\rightarrow X$ be bounded linear operators. We prove that if $A(BA)^2=ABACA=ACABA=(AC)^2A,$ then $$σ_{*}(AC)\setminus\{0\}=σ_{*}(BA)\setminus\{0\}$$ where $σ_*$ runs over a large of spectra originated by regularities.
Let $r_A(T)$ denote the $A$-spectral radius of an operator $T$ which is bounded with respect to the seminorm induced by a positive operator $A$ on a complex Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$. In this paper, we aim to establish some $A$-spectral radius inequalities for products, sums and commutators of $A$-bounded operators. Moreover, under suitable conditions on $T$ and $A$ we show that \begin{equation*} r_A\left( \sum_{k=0}^{+\infty}c_{k}T^{k}\right) \leq \sum_{k=0}^{+\infty}|c_{k}|\left[r_A(T)\right]^{k}, \end{equation*} where $c_k$ are complex numbers for all $k\in \mathbb{N}$.
In this note, we study common local spectral properties for bounded linear operators $A\in\mathcal{L}(X,Y)$ and $B,C\in\mathcal{L}(Y,X)$ such that $$A(BA)^2=ABACA=ACABA=(AC)^2A.$$ We prove that $AC$ and $BA$ share the single valued extension property, the Bishop property $(β)$, the property $(β_ε)$, the decomposition property $(δ)$ and decomposability. Closedness of analytic core and quasinilpotent part are also investigated. Some applications to Fredholm operators are given.
Let $Ψ$ and $Σ$ be bounded sets of positive kernel operators on a Banach function space $L$. We prove several refinements of the known inequalities $$ρ\left(Ψ^{\left( \frac{1}{2} \right)} \circ Σ^{\left( \frac{1}{2} \right)} \right) \le ρ(ΨΣ) ^{\frac{1}{2}} \;\; \mathrm{and}\;\; \hatρ \left(Ψ^{\left( \frac{1}{2} \right)} \circ Σ^{\left( \frac{1}{2} \right)} \right) \le \hatρ (ΨΣ) ^{\frac{1}{2}} $$ for the generalized spectral radius $ρ$ and the joint spectral radius $\hatρ$, where $Ψ^{\left( \frac{1}{2} \right)} \circ Σ^{\left( \frac{1}{2} \right)} $ denotes the Hadamard (Schur) geometric mean…
Let $X,Y$ be Banach spaces, $A:X \longrightarrow Y$ and $B,C:Y \longrightarrow X$ be bounded linear operators satisfying operator equation $ABA=ACA$. Recently, as extensions of Jacobson's lemma, Corach, Duggal and Harte studied common properties of $AC-I$ and $BA-I$ in algebraic viewpoint and also obtained some topological analogues. In this note, we continue to investigate common properties of $AC$ and $BA$ from the viewpoint of spectral theory. In particular, we give an affirmative answer to one question posed by Corach et al. by proving that $AC - I$ has closed range if and only if $BA - I$…
Spectral and factorization properties of oscillatory matrices leads to a spectral Favard theorem for bounded banded matrices, that admit a positive bidiagonal factorization, in terms of sequences of mixed multiple orthogonal polynomials with respect to a set positive Lebesgue-Stieltjes measures. A mixed multiple Gauss quadrature formula with corresponding degrees of precision is given.
We study the spectral properties of bounded and unbounded Jacobi matrices whose entries are bounded operators on a complex Hilbert space. In particular, we formulate conditions assuring that the spectrum of the studied operators is continuous. Uniform asymptotics of generalised eigenvectors and conditions implying complete indeterminacy are also provided.
We give a definition of the spectral flow for paths of bounded essentially hyperbolic operators on a Banach space. The spectral flow induces a group homomorphism on the fundamental group of every connected component of the space of essentially hyperbolic operators. We prove that this homomorphism completes the exact homotopy sequence of a Serre fibration. This allows us to characterise its kernel and image and to produce examples of spaces where it is not injective or not surjective, unlike what happens for Hilbert spaces. For a large class of paths, namely the essentially splitting, the spect…
We study the asymptotic behavior as L \to \infty of the finite-volume spectral shift function for a positive, compactly-supported perturbation of a Schrödinger operator in d-dimensional Euclidean space, restricted to a cube of side length L with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The size of the support of the perturbation is fixed and independent of L. We prove that the Cesàro mean of finite-volume spectral shift functions remains pointwise bounded along certain sequences L_n \to \infty for Lebesgue-almost every energy. In deriving this result, we give a short proof of the vague convergence of th…
We initiate the study of the completely bounded multipliers of the Haagerup tensor product $A(G)\otimes_{\rm h} A(G)$ of two copies of the Fourier algebra $A(G)$ of a locally compact group $G$. If $E$ is a closed subset of $G$ we let $E^{\sharp} = \{(s,t) : st\in E\}$ and show that if $E^{\sharp}$ is a set of spectral synthesis for $A(G)\otimes_{\rm h} A(G)$ then $E$ is a set of local spectral synthesis for $A(G)$. Conversely, we prove that if $E$ is a set of spectral synthesis for $A(G)$ and $G$ is a Moore group then $E^{\sharp}$ is a set of spectral synthesis for $A(G)\otimes_{\rm h} A(G)$. …
Boundedness of weighted composition operators $W_{u,φ}$ acting on the classical Dirichlet space $\mathcal{D}$ as $W_{u,φ}f= u\, (f\circ φ)$ is studied in terms of the multiplier space associated to the symbol $φ$, i.e., ${\mathcal{M}(ϕ)}=\{ u \in {\mathcal D}: W_{u,ϕ} \hbox{ is bounded on } {\mathcal D} \}$. A prominent role is played by the multipliers of the Dirichlet space. As a consequence, the spectrum of $W_{u,φ}$ in $\mathcal{D}$ whenever $φ$ is an automorphism of the unit disc is studied, extending a recent work of Hyvärinen, Lindström, Nieminen and Saukko to the context of the Dirichl…
We produce a variety of odd bounded Fredholm modules and odd spectral triples on Cuntz-Krieger algebras by means of realizing these algebras as "the algebra of functions on a non-commutative space" coming from a sub shift of finite type. We show that any odd $K$-homology class can be represented by such an odd bounded Fredholm module or odd spectral triple. The odd bounded Fredholm modules that are constructed are finitely summable. The spectral triples are $θ$-summable although their bounded transform, when constructed using the sign-function, will already on the level of analytic $K$-cycles …
In this paper, we aim to introduce the notion of the spectral radius of bounded linear operators acting on a complex Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$, which are bounded with respect to the seminorm induced by a positive operator $A$ on $\mathcal{H}$. Mainly, we show that $r_A(T)\leq ω_A(T)$ for every $A$-bounded operator $T$, where $r_A(T)$ and $ω_A(T)$ denote respectively the $A$-spectral radius and the $A$-numerical radius of $T$. This allows to establish that $r_A(T)=ω_A(T)=\|T\|_A$ for every $A$-normaloid operator $T$, where $\|T\|_A$ is denoted to be the $A$-operator seminorm of $T$. Moreover,…
We study decreasing rearrangements of functions defined on (possibly non-smooth) metric measure spaces with Ricci curvature bounded below by $K>0$ and dimension bounded above by $N\in (1,\infty)$ in a synthetic sense, the so called $CD(K,N)$ spaces. We first establish a Polya-Szego type inequality stating that the $W^{1,p}$-Sobolev norm decreases under such a rearrangement and apply the result to show sharp spectral gap for the $p$-Laplace operator with Dirichlet boundary conditions (on open subsets), for every $p\in (1,\infty)$. This extends to the non-smooth setting a classical result of Bér…
This thesis is devoted to the study of multivariate (joint) spectral multipliers for systems of strongly commuting non-negative self-adjoint operators, $L=(L_1,\ldots,L_d),$ on $L^2(X,ν),$ where $(X,ν)$ is a measure space. By strong commutativity we mean that the operators $L_r,$ $r=1,\ldots,d,$ admit a joint spectral resolution $E(λ).$ In that case, for a bounded function $m\colon [0,\infty)^d\to \mathbb{C},$ the multiplier operator $m(L)$ is defined on $L^2(X,ν)$ by $$m(L)=\int_{[0,\infty)^d}m(λ)dE(λ).$$ By spectral theory, $m(L)$ is then bounded on $L^2(X,ν).$ The purpose of the dissertatio…
In (J. Funct. Anal. 257, 1092-1132 (2009)), Dykema and Skripka showed the existence of higher order spectral shift functions when the unperturbed self-adjoint operator is bounded and the perturbations is Hilbert-Schmidt. In this article, we give a different proof for the existence of spectral shift function for the third order when the unperturbed operator is self-adjoint (bounded or unbounded, but bounded below).
The local boundedness of classes of operators is analyzed on different subsets directly related to their Fitzpatrick functions and characterizations of the topological vector spaces for which that local boundedness holds is given in terms of the uniform boundedness principle. For example the local boundedness of a maximal monotone operator on the algebraic interior of its domain convex hull is a characteristic of barreled locally convex spaces.
We generalize Moore's nonstandard proof of the Spectral theorem for bounded self-adjoint operators to the case of unbounded operators. The key step is to use a definition of the nonstandard hull of an internally bounded self-adjoint operator due to Raab.
Consider a second order, strongly elliptic negative semidefinite differential operator $L$ (maybe a system) on a compact Riemannian manifold $\overline{M}$ with smooth boundary, where the domain of $L$ is defined by a coercive boundary condition. Classically known results, and also recent work in \cite{DOS} and \cite{DM} establish sufficient conditions for $L^\infty-\text{BMO}_L$ continuity of $φ(\sqrt{A})$, where $φ\in S^0_1(\mathbb{R})$, and $A$ is a suitable elliptic operator. Using a variant of the Cheeger-Gromov-Taylor functional calculus due to \cite{MMV}, and short time bounds on the in…
In this paper we show that any increasing functional of the first k eigenvalues of the Dirichlet Laplacian admits a (quasi-)open minimizer among the subsets of R^N of unit measure. In particular, there exists such a minimizer which is bounded, where the bound depends on k and N, but not on the functional. In the meantime, we show that the ratio λ_k(Ω)/λ_1(Ω) is uniformly bounded for sets Ω\in R^N.
In the paper, a simple condition guaranteing the finiteness property for a bounded set of matrices is presented. Given a bounded set S of real or complex matrices, it is shown that existence of a sequence of matrix products such that the spectrum of each matrix in this sequence is uniformly sub-peripheral and tends to the joint spectral radius of S, guarantees the spectral finiteness property for S.
Let $X$ be a space of homogeneous type and let $L$ be a nonnegative self-adjoint operator on $L^2(X)$ which satisfies a Gaussian estimate on its heat kernel. In this paper we prove a Hömander type spectral multiplier theorem for $L$ on the Besov and Triebel--Lizorkin spaces associated to $L$. Our work not only recovers the boundedness of the spectral multipliers on $L^p$ spaces and Hardy spaces associated to $L$, but also is the first one which proves the boundedness of a general spectral theorem on Besov and Triebel--Lizorkin spaces.
Let $X$ be a vector lattice and $(E,τ)$ be a locally solid vector lattice. An operator $T:X\to E$ is said to be $ob$-bounded if, for each order bounded set $B$ in $X$, $T(B)$ is topologically bounded in $E$. In this paper, we study on algebraic properties of $ob$-bounded operators with respect to the topology of uniform convergence and equicontinuous convergence.
In this paper using a transform defined by the translation operator we introduce the concept of spectrum of sequences that are bounded by $n^ν$, where $ν$ is a natural number. We apply this spectral theory to study the asymptotic behavior of solutions of fractional difference equations of the form $Δ^αx(n)=Tx(n)+y(n)$, $n\in \mathbb{N}$, where $0<α\le 1$. One of the obtained results is an extension of a famous Katznelson-Tzafriri Theorem, saying that if the $α$-resolvent operator $S_α$ satisfies $\sup_{n\in\mathbb{N}} \| S_α(n)\| /n^ν<\infty$ and for all $z_0\in \{z\in \mathbb{C}: \ |z|=1\}$, …
In this short article, we mainly prove that, for any spectral operator $A$ of type $m$ on a complex Hilbert space, if a bounded operator $B$ lies in the collection of bounded linear operators that are in the $k$-centralizer of every bounded linear operator in the $l$-centralizer of $A$, where $k\leqslant l$ is two arbitrary positive integers satisfying $l\geqslant k$ as well as $l\geqslant 2m+1$, then $B$ must belong to the von Neumann algebra generated by $A$ and identity operator. This result generalizes a matrix commutator theorem proved by M.\ F.\ Smiley. For this aim, Smiley-type operator…
In this article we consider the classical singular integral operator over a local field with rough kernels. We study the boundedness of such an operator on different function spaces by relaxing the smoothness condition on kernels.
We study the spectral norm of matrices M that can be factored as M=BA, where A is a random matrix with independent mean zero entries, and B is a fixed matrix. Under the (4+epsilon)-th moment assumption on the entries of A, we show that the spectral norm of such an m by n matrix M is bounded by \sqrt{m} + \sqrt{n}, which is sharp. In other words, in regard to the spectral norm, products of random and deterministic matrices behave similarly to random matrices with independent entries. This result along with the previous work of M. Rudelson and the author implies that the smallest singular value …

In this paper, we prove the Spanne-type boundedness of the generalized Riesz potential operator from the one generalized weighted local Morrey spaces to the another one, and from the generalized weighted local Morrey spaces to the weak generalized weighted local Morrey spaces. We also prove the Adams-type boundedness of the operator from the weighted spaces to the another one, and from the weighted spaces to the weak weighted spaces.
We give conditions for boundedness of Hausdorff operators on real Hardy spaces $H^1$ over homogeneous spaces of locally compact groups with local doubling property. The special case of the hyperbolic plane is considered.
Let $X$ be a space of homogeneous type and let $L$ be an injective, non-negative, self-adjoint operator on $L^2(X)$ such that the semigroup generated by $-L$ fulfills Davies-Gaffney estimates of arbitrary order. We prove that the operator $F(L)$, initially defined on $H^1_L(X)\cap L^2(X)$, acts as a bounded linear operator on the Hardy space $H^1_L(X)$ associated with $L$ whenever $F$ is a bounded, sufficiently smooth function. Based on this result, together with interpolation, we establish Hörmander type spectral multiplier theorems on Lebesgue spaces for non-negative, self-adjoint operators …
For an unbounded operator $S$ on a Banach space the existence of invariant subspaces corresponding to its spectrum in the left and right half-plane is proved. The general assumption on $S$ is the uniform boundedness of the resolvent along the imaginary axis. The projections associated with the invariant subspaces are bounded if $S$ is strictly dichotomous, but may be unbounded in general. Explicit formulas for these projections in terms of resolvent integrals are derived and used to obtain perturbation theorems for dichotomy. All results apply, with certain simplifications, to bisectorial oper…
If X is a sequentially complete locally convex space, then a quotient bounded operator T is regular (in the sense of Waelbroeck) if and only if it is a bounded element (in the sense of Allan) of the algebra of quotient bounded operators on X. The classic functional calculus for the bounded operators on Banach space is generalized for such bounded operators. Also are studied some spectral propreties of the locally bounded operators.
Let E be a locally solid vector lattice. In this paper, we consider two particular vector subspaces of the space of all order bounded operators on E. With the aid of two appropriate topologies, we show that under some conditions, they establish both, locally solid vector lattices and topologically complete topological algebras.
We give a criterion for the global boundedness of integral operators which are known to be locally bounded. As an application, we discuss the global $L^p$-boundedness for a class of Fourier integral operators. While the local $L^p$-boundedness of Fourier integral operators is known from the work of Seeger, Sogge and Stein, not so many results are available for the global boundedness on $L^p({\mathbb R}^n)$. We give several natural sufficient conditions for them.
We show how the essential spectral radius of a bounded positive kernel, acting on bounded functions, is linked to its lower approximation by certain absolutely continuous kernels. The standart Doeblin's condition can be interpreted in this context, and, when suitably reformulated, it leads to a formula for the essential spectral radius. This results may be used to characterize the Markov kernels having a quasi-compact action on a space of measurable functions bounded with respect to some test function, when no irreducibilty and aperiodicity are assumed.
An algebra of bounded linear operators on a Banach space is said to be {\em strongly compact} if its unit ball is precompact in the strong operator topology, and a bounded linear operator on a Banach space is said to be {\em strongly compact} if the algebra with identity generated by the operator is strongly compact. Our interest in this notion stems from the work of Lomonosov on the existence of invariant subspaces. We provide a local spectral condition that is sufficient for a bounded linear operator on a Banach space to be strongly compact. This condition is then applied to describe a large…
We prove spectral multiplier theorems for Hörmander classes $\mathcal{H}^α\_p$ for 0-sectorial operators A on Banach spaces assuming a bounded $H^\infty(Σ\_σ)$ calculus for some $σ\in (0,π)$ and norm and certain R-bounds on one of the following families of operators: the semigroup $e^{--zA}$ on $\mathbb{C}\_+$, the wave operators $e^{isA}$ for $s \in \mathbb{R}$, the resolvent $(λ-- A)^{-1}$ on $\mathbb{C} \backslash \mathbb{R}$, the imaginary powers $A^{it}$ for $t \in \mathbb{R}$ or the Bochner-Riesz means $(1-A/u)^α\_+$ for $u > 0.$ In contrast to the existing literature we neither assume t…
